Garza & Aguila challenge for tag titles, lineup

CMLL (FRI) 07/09 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, @cmllmagazine]
1) Bengala & Horus b Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Diamante, Molotov, Sensei DQ Durango Kid, Puma King, Tiger Kid
3) Mascarita Dorada b Pierrothito [lightning]
4) Máximo, Sagrado, Valiente b Shigeo Okumura, Vangelis, Yoshihashi
5) Averno, Jushin Lyger, Mephisto b Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
6) Héctor Garza, Mr. Águila, Olímpico b La Máscara, La Sombra, Volador Jr.

Attendance does not sound good – there was a lot of rain and some flooding due to Hurricane Alex. R de Rudo says 50% capacity, which would actually be a really big number for these shows lately. Maybe 50% of usual is what they mean.

Rudos took the first fall of the main event, tecnicos rallied in the second. Sombra & Volador were kicked out of the air going for flying moves, and Aguila & Garza pinned them for the win. No action teasing a Volador turn, but Aguila & Garza challenged for the tag team titles and will immediately get that shot.

Lyger & Avernos got the jump on Pesta Negra for one pin. In the second, Niebla had Lyger pinned, but one ref was distracted and Averno pulled out the other. Niebla got up to look around, and Lyger yanked his mask, fouled him, and covered him for the win.

Dorada won with 14 seconds left on the clock. It’s probably 9:46 of really good stuff, most of which won’t air.

Rudos ripped off Sensei’s mask to get DQed in straight falls.

Dos de Tres mentions AAA will be working with the PanAmerican Games, this October in Guadalajara. It may just be some smaller shows for out of towners to get a flavor of Mexico (and CMLL will likely do the same), but AAA usually goes to Guadalajara for one major show a year, and October is when the Pena Memorial show takes place. Might be tough to get a big enough building with that mini-olypmpics going on, though.

Ras de Lona didn’t have much news. They hyped up Infierno en el Ring, talking with all 12 of the wrestlers, including to Histeria about his busy week. The highlight video of Monsther included him blowing half of the moves, maybe they blew the highlight video. There was a long interview with Halcon Dorada – not four minutes, but I’d presume this is what they’re showing on the Sunday show.

Fuego en el Ring has interviews with Stuka Jr. (feuding with Okumura?), Angel de Oro (wants Puma King’s mask; if only there were tag belts for those teams to feud over), Hector Garza (about Hurricane Alex),

SuperLuchas points out Sombra’s match vs Tiger Mask IV has turned up on YouTube. It’s not on NJPW’s official site, so it may not last long.

Dos de Tres’s next edition has Zorro on the cover. No idea what he’s supposed to be wearing there.

None of the guys in Infierno en el Ring are on this card. Interesting way to build for that.

On Ras de Lona, the main event was listed as Sombra, Volador, Mascara vs Garza, Aguila, Terrible. Hmmmm.
