06/30 AAA TV Results (Puebla) – Reina de Reinas championship vacant

AAA

AAA TV (FRI) 06/30/2017 Gimnasio Miguel Hidalgo, Puebla, Puebla [AAA]
1) Ashley, Dragón Solar, Némesis b Black Fury, Mini Rocker, Royer Boy
Dark match, La Llave de la Gloria match. Dragon Solar, Nemesis and Mini Rocker were not listed as advancing in La Llave de la Gloria prior. Mini Rocker was listed as Mini Espiritu by non-AAA sources and that appeared to be the gimmick he was doing.
2) Australian Suicide b Bengala
Suicide wins the battle of ex-parnters.
3) Aerostar, Drago, Raptor b Carta Brava Jr., Mocho Cota Jr., Soul Rocker
This is now a best of five series for the trios title. Raptor got the pin on Soul Rocker, so the tecnicos lead 1-0.
4) Averno, Chessman, Súper Fly b Argenis, La Parka, Lanzeloth
Ricky Marvin returned to attack the OGT, but it cost the tecnicos the match. The tecnicos were upset at Ricky and did not accept his apology.
5) Máscara de Bronce b HernandezKevin Kross [briefcase]
Prior to this match, Johnny Mundo interrupted to ask why his bodyguard Kross was fighting for a title shot against him. (If there was answer, it wasn’t reported.) Mascara de Bronce won again, Kross took the briefcase from him afterwarwds anyway again
6) Dr. Wagner Jr. b El Mesías
Rematch of TripleMania XVII. Mesias was distracted by Pagano’s music.
7) Psycho Clown NF Pagano
Rematch of TripleMania XXIV. No finish when Wagner & Mesias attacked both men.
8) Johnny Mundo © b Texano Jr. [AAA HEAVY]
Mundo retained after Fantasma got involved. First defense

Air Date: 07/29 & 08/05.

And now a bunch of stuff on something that wasn’t even on the show.

This morning, after this show, AAA announced the Reina de Reinas championship is vacant. The AAA press release gives no reason but says the method of determining a new champion will be announced in upcoming days. On Facebook (and not referenced by AAA), Vampiro says he’s enforcing stricter rules around this title going forward where titles have to change hands on a pinfall or submission. Ayako passed out due to Taya’s chokehold, which is not a pinfall or submission, so Vampiro is ruling the title could not change hands and is taking it away from Taya. Vampiro says Taya will get a title shot later when she wanted it.

(Pause to note Vampiro’s explanation is really dumb. It’s dumb that passing out and the referee stopping the match is always a winning condition, it’s dumb in that it was street fight so a chokehold should be legal, it’s dumb that it would come three months after the title change when Vampiro was there and praising the match on screen, and it’s dumb in that Johnny Mundo and Mini Psycho Clown both won their championships by breaking the rules. It’s a storyline patch to cover up whatever they don’t want to talk about, but it’s a really ill thought out one that matches how ill thought out a lot of AAA is right now.)

Taya was scheduled to be on the 06/19 Nuevo Laredo taping, but missed it citing injuries from a recent car accident. She has not been on any future TV tapings, but was listed as defending the title on a 07/21 (non-TV) show in Tijuana against Faby Apache and Ayako Hamada. To the best of my knowledge, Taya has not wrestled since the injury. She could be back by that match, she could not, but it’s also not like AAA has been concerned about delivering scheduled matches.

It appeared Taya might have been informed of this last night, but says she was not told this was happening before AAA posted the announcement, has no idea why the decision was made, is annoyed the company isn’t supporting her as much as she’s supported them, and is playing around with the idea of going with The Crash guys. Taya is reacting not reacting like this is part of some storyline. This is a weekend where The Crash & AAA guys are going to be working together on a show, so it’s tough not to be a little suspicious AAA is doing some odd angle. It’s does seem more likely AAA is being weird, because AAA is always weird. It’s also a dangerous thing to do: they sort of need Johnny Mundo to still be around for TripleMania to lose all his singles titles and they seemed to have angered his fiance.

This show itself was the most normal wrestling promotion thing that’s happened in AAA for a while. All but one of the advertised matches happened. All the finishes generally made sense with the TripleMania matches in mind.

The Best of 5 trios series should conclude on TripleMania but, if they run one match per show, they’re only going to be on match 4 on that show. When this same crew did this bit on TripleMania, they’ve done two matches in one show along the way, and I suspect that’ll happen somewhere – maybe even on TripleMania itself.

The story thread I’m more interesting in seeing on TV is the Mascara de Bronce, because I have no feel about how it’s being played. He’s winning, but he’s losing the briefcase every time. Is he looking impressive while beating guys twice his size? Is he getting fluke banana peal wins and looking like a chump after? I don’t know. I have my guesses but it’s hard to tell from what AAA is saying.

Marvin’s disappearing act is being used as an AAA storyline, with La Parka pointing it out on Twitter. It’s another bit that hasn’t come across clear on results and maybe on TV, though it seems like they’ve cut down on doing vignettes to explain what’s going on. Which leaves us in the same situation as Taya, not really knowing what’s going on with AAA.

The next taping is two weeks from Sunday, July 16, in Monterrey.

This was a good show, with the non-Shocker tournaments matches all watchable and everything on the undercard good except the Pierroth/Vangellys madness.

On the Fake La Sombra thing: It’s definitely not Diamante, since he was wrestling elsewhere. I don’t have the identity confirmed, but what I’ve found out so far leads me to believe was more of an attention seeking but by CMLL (or maybe even just Los Ingobernables.) My impression is the people involved know what kind of match they have in Vangellys & Pierroth, know how people feel about it happening, and are trying to do something to get people talking about it anyway. The Fake Sombra totally overshadowed (sorry) the match, but if they get people to come on 07/14 to see what the payoff is, that’s just as good as getting them to come to see the outcome of the hair match.

Volador, Dragon Lee and Titan are headed to Los Angeles for NJPW’s US debut shows tonight. They’re teaming with Jushin Lyger tonight to face Los Ingobernables del Japon, which will air live on AXS in the US and The Fight Network & NJPW World internationally. Their match for Sunday has not yet been announced.

Penta 0M posted a video talking about being mugged mentioning his bags had both his and Fenix’s travel papers. He’s hoping to have those documents back by next week.

AAA claims Octagon has not actually won his court case for his name and they believe they will eventually be the winners. Octagon claimed he won the rights to the name at his press conference on Wednesday, though he didn’t seem to offer any proof other than waving some documents. The page for Octagon’s ANLPL luchador associations is here.

Puebla luchador Cosmos died Thursday, shot in his other job as a police officer. (I can’t find any lineups in Puebla with a Cosmos so they may have reported wrong name – some reports have “Mistico” too and that’s not right.) That article mentions other Puebla luchadors who double as police officers include Rey Celeste, Police Man and Pegasso.

Shows of note this weekend:

Saturday:

Sunday

RCW has LA Park & Hijo de LA Park versus Hernandez & Michael Faith on 07/14 in San Antonio.

The Microman/Gallito vs Zacarias/Guapito (no Mije) match is headed to Morelos on 07/15.

Hijo de Sangre Chicana defeated Heavy Rock for his mask on Thursday in Arena Tigre Padilla.

The new Lucha Classica episode is about LA Park.

A new episode of Fuego en el Ring is up.

Lucha Underground posted as Jeremiah Crane promo.

Volador/Mephisto is a match up CMLL will book. They did have Volador versus a tecnico last year. It’s just hard to see anyone but Ultimo Guerrero coming thru this, and probably once again versus Atlantis in a block final.

Blue Panther/Sam Adonis shadow feud continues, as does Zeuxis/Sugehit.

Not yet announced by AAA but this leaked out on Twitter last night. This is the last TV taping scheduled TripleMania, and the first episode of TV is lined up to air the same afternoon as TripleMania. With a 9pm start, that means it’s likely the last thing people will see before heading to that show.

AAA was closer to their original lineup last night and the Aerostar/Drago/Raptor versus Poder del Norte match has to happen to continue their series, but everything else is subject to change.

What Happened

Forastero dropkick

Volador Jr. won Block A of the Universal tournament, defeating Hechicero, Shocker and Negro Casas to advance to the final on 07/14.

Vangellys snuck in a low blow to beat Pierroth in straight falls. The start of the match was more interesting than the start or the middle: a luchador in a Sombra outfit accompanied Los Ingobernables to the ring. The announcers wondered if it was the real La Sombra without mentioning that name (and the real La Sombra teased that he was at the arena.) It appeared to be someone else in the outfit.

Blue Panther and Sam Adonis are working a lot against each other in matches. It’s unclear if it’s meant to be an actual angle or them doing their own thing.

Marcela & Volador Jr. each received the Copa Bobby Bonales.

Thoughts:

Soberano gets caught

The Universal tournament had two styles: the matches with Shocker and the matches without him. Shocker’s match with Valiente was a nothing match meant to save as much as possible of Shocker for the next match. (The guy who won last year’s tournament was quietly eliminated first.) That was a decent plan, only Shocker still didn’t have enough left to finish a four and half minute match with Volador before gassing out badly. Shocker did a multiple quebadora spot and was just done but had to go on. He needed a bit of a break before the match could wrap up. This was not a good idea.

The rest was a good idea! Hechicero/Volador was the lightning match they’ve never had but should again. Luciferno/Dragon Lee was Luciferno going all out in his annual loss versus Lee. And Negro Casas was great as usual: he made Angel de Oro look like a chump, he recreated about half of his Monday lighting match with Dragon Lee, and he took crazy punishment from Volador Jr. again. They should be giving Casas another trophy. These matches were short but felt like they had a lot to them.

locoiferno

I know this week’s Pierroth/Vangellys match wasn’t bad, because the promos afterwards definitely were bad and the match didn’t last long to be of that quality. This was the predictable build up a couple weeks out from the hair match, a match that’s not going to work at all unless Rush carries the match like he’s taking care of the talking. Guessing at the Sombra mystery was a lot more fun than the match.

The tercera played like the week delayed reward for Soberano winning the En Gran Alternativa. He got a to of the offense on his side, he dove off the stage, and they generally showcased him well. The crowd was loudest for Adonis, riled up whenever he’d grab the flag, thrilled when the técnicos finally ganged up on him. I assume Adonis & Panther are doing their own thing here, but maybe they can make it into something real. Adonis took great care of Panther on the Finish.

Sanson bomb

The second match struck me as a simple match done well, where the opener had a bit more effort. They did everything really well; Virus was sharp, the técnicos were effective in their movements, and they built strongly to the end of falls. These guys have really strong timing too, with not the hesitation sometimes seen in the other one. It also had the totally random Virus/Ripper issues and Ripper wrestling in his Psicosis outfit for unexplained reasons.

This show opened with a rare fun opener. It didn’t feel like they totally let these guys go (though we got the dive), but both teams did a lot more than most people are allowed to the opener. Drone was exciting if sloppy early, and he and The Panther work well together. There’s no chance he’s going to replace Blue Panther Jr. as the regular partner, but he would work as the trio partner. All the action doesn’t work if the NGD aren’t on the other side and willing to go with it; I almost don’t want to see them moved up because the midcard tecnicos won’t have any one better to work with right now. There are better exhibitions of what they could do, but this match was a good showcase of how useful they are for everyone else.

there were bigger spots but Negro Casas’ reaction is great so whatever
