07/16: CMLL Spain details, notes

(no Tuesday Mexico or GDL results up yet)

El Siglo de Torreon has the most complete list of CMLL talent going to Spain next month I’ve seen so far. (CMLL now has the same list up on their website)

Tecnicos: Dos Caras Jr., La Mascara, Felino, Stuka Jr., Valiente, Metalik, Hijo del Fantasma, Metalico, Fabian el Gitano, Flash, Astro Boy, Molotov, Maximo (13)
Rudos: Atlantis, Olimpico, Heavy Metal, Hijo de Lizmark, Damian 666, Mr. Aguila, Virus, Nosfertu, Euforia, Nitro, Hooligan, Arkangel, Super Comando, Artillero, Loco Max (15)

I suspect we’re missing two tecnicos or one of the rudos is working as a tecnico on this tour. (28 wrestlers is 4 trios and Comando/Artillero vs Molotov/Astro Boy opener.) Atlantis IS right there. Regardless of who ends up working with whom, it’s intersting they’re taking lower level wrestlers with this – this ought to be a nice pay day for them. Interstingly, Pierroth is not mentioned, but I figure he’s going along in a non-wrestling capacity.

The article says this is a co promotion with Lider Mundial en Eventos, which doesn’t turn up much on Google. The tour schedule is

08/14: Plaza de Toros de Valencia (18,000)
08/18: Palacio de los Deportes Santander (12,000)
08/19: Alicante (10,000)
08/21: Marbella (8,500)
08/22: San Sebastián de los Reyes (10,000)

In Reforma, Panico says they’re looking at running events in France, England, Germany, Turkey, Austria, Romania, Hungary and Israel. (Romania?) I can’t find a link to it at the moment, but I believe they he also said they’re trying to get TV in Spain (hopefully before the next tour) and would like to do the same in other countries.

With Averno & Mistico gone for at least part of the same stretch, this leaves
top tecnicos: Wagner, Marco, Garza, Shocker, Panther, Park, Volador
top rudos: Perro, Negro, Niebla, UG, Rey, Warrior, Mephisto

They can get by in Mexico and Coliseo for a week with what’s left. It mostly means more bookings for the middle and low guys. And definitely some work for the minis and the women.

ESTO posted a recap of the AAA Salamanca taping, which means someone for AAA is writing this and not putting it on their own website. Lame. I got the results right anyway, and AAA did add profiles for Killer Clown, Psycho Clown, and Zombie Clown. Ricky still remians an enigma (but not Nygma.) The links on the RSS feeds are still broke, but they appear to be working on it.

Did CMLL really say Chris Daniels was coming to CMLL in two weeks on TV last Saturday? Because they’re still telling the press Johnny Devine is the sixth guy on the TNA crew (even if no one can spell his name), and Chris Daniels is “fired from TNA”. Giving away that he’s Curry Man seems more kayfabe exposing then rudos and tecnicos teaming together.

(El Siglo de Torreon, and like three days after KrisZ had it) Mistico is sick of Dr. Wagner’s attitude problems. Mistico says no one wanted Wagner when he left CMLL and he’s sick of hearing about Wagner complaining about teaming with him since he came back. Mistico sees Wagner as a rival, and one that’ll always be one step below. Moving on to other subjects, Mistico welcomes Negro Casas’ challenge and would face him in a mask/hair match at any time, because he would be proud to face a legend. Mistico says he’s hoping Perro Jr. wins the Leyenda de Plata, because he’s been waiting to take his hair for two years.

Meanwhile, Dr. Wagner Jr. follows up on the notion of Wagner joining the Perros. (I’m sure he brought it up, but he says Perro brought it up here.) Wagner says if Perro beats him, then he’s the better man and maybe Wagner should be following him. But if Wagner wins, maybe they should have a hair vs mask match. Wagner is going to wait until after the singles match to figure things out.

Lizmark Jr. is interested in joing Pesta Negra. He says he’s back from a lower back/hip injury.

Why did Mr. Aguila have Wagner’s WWA Junior Heavyweight Title? I presume he just stole it from Dr. Wagner before the match, but one never knows.

Ohtani’s Jacket is down on the ’04 Santo vs Averno and ’92 Satanico vs El Dandy.

Deporte1.com says CMLL is talking to IWRG’s Junior Capos, El Dandy, and Septiembre el Terrorista about coming in. I can’t recall ever seeing a story from Deporte1 before, and Mascara Ano 2000 Jr.’s being quoted as saying “we’re only coming in if we’re immediately used as top stars! We won’t even work semifinals!” tends to suggest this is mostly rumor and little reality.

20 thoughts to “07/16: CMLL Spain details, notes”

  1. List of thoughts:

1: Isn’t Mistico going to Spain?

2: As much as I like Wagner, he needs to shut up.

3: I thought Daniels was going to EMLL as Curry Man as well and not as himself?

4: Back to the Spain part, Atlantis will start his babyface turn here.

  2. 1. Not on this tour
    3. He is going as Curry Man, but the CMLL apparently said Daniels was the one coming.

  3. The TV show did say Chris Daniels. The IWRG guys to CMLL seems fake, I doubt CMLL would be interested in Multifacetico, who’s nothing especial considering who they already have, and his gimmick is owned by IWRG, so it would be fool for CMLL to give him exposure to a rival guy. Although maybe CMLL is interested in Capos Jr, since word is that the CMLL locker room is extremely against Wagner and probably no one wants to team up with him and even less job to him, they already tried to bring aboard Hysteria and Psicosis II, didn’t work, so bringing Capos, who were feuding Wagner makes some sense. But I still say there’s no truth to that rumor, I don’t believe CMLL is ))THAT(( desperate.

  4. @cubsfan:

I’m surprised TNA didn’t ask for Mistico(I’m really starting to believe he is the reason TNA is working with EMLL) or Wagner for the X Cup, thats Assuming Averno, U.G. and Buccanero would have wanted to team with either one of them.

I’m guessing CMLL doesn’t follow american wrestling storylines no?

  5. He better because they sure won’t be breaking any attendance records relying on what they’re offering so far.

    CMLL.com has Tuesday results.

  6. Panicos thoughts about doing shows in these other European countries have to be out of a clear blue sky. I know that Lucha shows were a huge ratings success in one of the Balkan states for some reason some years ago, but Austria, Israel and Germany!? There are not even 100 Germans who know what a luchador is.

  7. The Spain lineup basically assures me that Atlantis is turning in the tournament on Friday since they’ll be too busy on the 25th to book the turn then.

  8. Oh god.

SuperLuchas says CMLL has a press conference tomorrow at 12 to announce the Gran Prix teams and to announce the debut of a new wrestler who must be getting a big push if his debut is at a press conference. El Brujo?

    ANOTHER DEBUT.

    I’m making a list now.

  9. MY RESEARCH IS COMPLETE.*

In the entire year of 2007, CMLL had 17 wrestlers make their Mexico City debut for the promotion:

    Mascarita Dorada
    Pequeno Black Warrior
    Atomo
    Skandalo
    Ogun
    Brillante Jr./La Sombra
    Astro Boy
    Kid Tiger
    Angel Azteca Jr.
    Electrico
    Celestial/Cosmico
    Euforia
    Nosferatu
    Super Camaleon
    Super Tri
    Mentallo
    Diamante Negro

We are now at July 16th of 2008 and so far CMLL has had…

    *28* new wrestlers debut:

    Mini Skandalo (?)
    Cyber Black
    Perveroso
    Grey Shadow
    Cholo
    Puma King
    Semental
    Axxel
    El Hijo Del Fantasma
    Frisbee
    Disturbio
    Vangelis
    Bronco
    Pequeno Ninja
    Nino De Acero
    Pequeno Lizmark**
    Fireman
    Hijo Del Soberano
    Metalik
    Catedratico
    Corsario
    Hechicero
    Caifan Rockero I
    El Hijo Del Faraon
    Angel De Oro
    Inquisador
    El Brujo
    Pequeno Universo 2000

Sure there are a few guys who showed up once and haven’t been seen since but even if you remove them, by my count that still leaves 20 debuts which is 3 more than last year and we’re barely half done this year. It’s a pretty mind-boggling number to me considering how loaded CMLL’s roster is in the first place.

    * = Women are excluded from this research b/c that’s the way I roll. They’d only add to the #’s anyways since you have Diosa Maya, Seductora, Goddess, etc.
** = No results from that show so not sure if he was just listed and never appeared.

  10. @Rob: Brujo didn’t wrestle! What are the odds.

Mini Skandalo goes in the same pile as Mini Starman (an extra mini just borrowed a mask for the night.)

    Cyber Black worked in 2006

I have this sneaking suspicious Grey Shadow may not be a new wrestler debuting. Perhaps a new gimmick…

  11. Fair enough. Still leaves an awful high # of wrestlers debuting only halfway through the year. The # of debuts only gets lower if you keep going back through past years. I’ll do 2006 later.

I counted Grey Shadow b/c they hyped it as a new guy coming in with a new gimmick who hadn’t been around a while. Same reason I included Nosferatu for 2007 even though he was last seen in early 2006 as Chamaco.

  12. Oh, I still can’t believe they wanted to make Caifan into a witch. That’s got opening match gimmick written all over it.

It also means the new gimmick they announce today won’t be El Brujo so the door is wide open for any name to pop up. AAA guy? Fantasma’s other chubbier kid? IWRG guys?

  13. I wish I was. Hopefully it’ll just be for Verano de Escandal but you never know with AAA.

  14. He will be with the Legion, he’ll challenge Gronda, Cibernetico and hell even Super Porky

  15. Sorry for the double post but I just remember Chris Mortezdsky cannot use the Chris Masters name or “Masterpiece” as it is owned by WWE.
