07/11 Mexico preview

CMLL (FRI) 07/11 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Molotov vs Calígula & Méssala
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Marcela vs Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei
3) Dr. Wagner Jr. vs La Sombra, Sagrado, Hijo del Fantasma, Máscara Púrpura, Heavy Metal, Black Warrior, Sangre Azteca, Virus, Loco Max [Leyenda de Plata, cibernetico, semifinal]
4) Atlantis vs Blue Panther
5) Héctor Garza & Místico vs Mr. Niebla & Negro Casas [CMLL TAG]

Previews: Notimex, ESTO (Garza says he and Mistico have no plan for the match and they’ll be making it up as they go along – uh oh), ovaciones

Atlantis history pieces: Hoy, ESTO (Atlantis is happy to be facing Blue Panther and says it’ll be a classic match.) I would hope Atlantis is winning his anniversary match, but then I’d hope Atlantis’ 25th anniversary match would make TV and I’m not sure about that.

Splitting up the contenders again, and keeping in mind the winner is facing Perro Jr.:

No Chance
– Loco Max (no offense, but what is he doing in this match?)
– Virus
– Sangre Azteca
– Máscara Púrpura

Some Chance
– Black Warrior (would be awful strange)
– Hijo del Fantasma (can not yet rule out anything with him)
– Sagrado (previous finalist)
– La Sombra

Good Chance
– Heavy Metal (unresolved anger! that’s Heavy Metal’s life)
– Dr. Wagner Jr.

Even though it could probably lead to Perro and Mistico when facing him, I think Dr. Wagner winning would be fun. However, Heavy Metal winning, getting a win over Perro Jr. (getting revenge for the hair loss to Texano) and facing Mistico in the final works too well with the Casas/Niebla vs Mistico/Garza/Wagner feud not to happen. Metal’s my pick, and if you’re going to go with one member of the new top heel group, you might as well have a title change so all the members win.

GALLI show tonight in Villa Park

Almost forgot about this

GALLI (FRI) 07/11 the Odeum, Villa Park, IL
3) Darin Corbin & Ryan Cruz vs Arik Cannon & Tony Scarpone
4) Meteoro II vs Chilango [hair, mask]
5) Centella de Oro, Joey Marx, Nemesis (GALLI) vs Guerrillero, Pentagon del Infierno, Tokio Lee
6) Samuary vs Negrotistico, Gringo Loco, Amenaza del Siglo [TLC, GALLI]

Since I’ve last checked in with this group…
– Charly Manson Jr. apparently left, vacating the title. Haven’t seen his name on another lucha indy, and no idea what the deal is
– the tag title tournament they were pushing heavily last time in this building is apparently on hiatus
– No idea where the mask vs hair match came from, but okay

Main event was not actually called a TLC match, but that’s what it is. Amenaza del Siglo is taking Charly Manson Jr.’s spot, and doesn’t seem to fit the match, he’s a veteran rudo (with comedy) guy. I also wonder if this means Negrotistico has switched sides yet again and is back to being a tecnico to balance out the match.

Haven’t seen Tokio Lee previously, but I’d assume he’s one of the novatos getting a gimmick. Two young guys in a big singles match looks like it might be trouble on paper, but I’m guessing they’ve been working thru it for the last couple weeks and you just hope they don’t get derailed. The Northstar Express is good, right? I have no idea and haven’t seen Arik Cannon in many a year.

Tickets are $10 for Kids GA, $15 for Adults GA, $20 for ringside. Doors open at 6:30, show starts at 7:30. Say hi if you see me hanging out there.

07/11: FRAM, Azteca Budokan, Puebla

CMLL FRAM (THU) 07/10 Arena Mexico [Doom @ el Martinete]
1) Bam Bam, Mascarita Dorada, Último Dragoncito b Mr. Aguilita, Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Halloween
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Luna Mágica b Amapola, Hiroka, Mima Shimoda
3) Máximo, Valiente, Volador Jr. b Misterioso II, Olímpico, Sangre Azteca
4) Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero b Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone, Negro Casas
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Héctor Garza, Shocker b Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mr. Águila [FRAM CHAMP]

Didn’t think we’d get results from the show, but someone happened to go. No mention of any titles, so I think they might have just been honorary things (just like the Record show). In the semimian, Atlantis won fall one with the Atlinda, then Negro turned on Marco in the second fall.

I may have screwed this up a bit, but SoloLuchas makes it too complicated to figure out.

ESTO writes about Lucha Libre London. The story is about the success of the tour, and all indications are it did very well and they’ll surely run it again some time. Only of an interest to me, there’s a mention of Santo and Demon trading an NWA title which I didn’t know either man actually had – looks like it may be Santo’s old WWA Middleweight title.

Luchando Libre previews Sunday’s World X Cup final. UG’s loss to Kaz aired last night. Ultimo’s downfall was missing a top rope moonsault – when was the last time he went for one of those? On the last Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said TNA was asked not to team up CMLL tecnicos and rudos during the tournament, which would mean Volador Jr.’s the one who will work the Ultimate X match. (Presuming he’s still going, since nothing’s been writen about that for a bit.)

SoloLuchas has an interview with Puma King. He’s 19 or 20.

Hablando de Catch has photos from the AAA museum exhibit at the Lucha Libre Expo

Debuting this week in Argentina: an animated movie based on 100% Lucha. (They beat AAA, but it doesn’t sound like time travel and evil robots are involved.)

La Estrella de Tuscon writes about Estrella Veloz and his students in the area. They say he wrestled in CMLL for six years, trained 22 wrestlers in Mexico and is now training again in the Tucson area. They’ve got a show on the 20th.

CMLL (MON) 07/14 Arena Puebla [hugo999]
1) Asturiano, Legionario, Tigre Rojo vs Cerebro Negro, Mr. Rafaga, Negro Navarro
2) Dark Angel & Lady Apache vs Amapola & Hiroka
3) Centella de Oro, Máximo, Stuka Jr. vs Nitro, Policeman, Skandalo
4) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara vs Heavy Metal, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. & Místico vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo & Terrible

07/21 is the anniversary show, and hugo says the tercera is setting up a hair match. Semimain looks like it might set up a trios title match too.
