07/30: Puebla, Coliseo

CMLL (MON) 07/28 Arena Puebla [el sol del puebla]
1) King Jaguar, Legionario, SWAT b Fuerza Chicana, Furia Chicana, Siki Osama Jr.
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Loco Max b Ángel Azteca Jr., Metálico, Tigre Rojo
3) Misterioso II, Policeman, Virus b Axxel, Máximo, Valiente
4) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara b Heavy Metal, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas [CMLL TRIOS]
5) el Hijo del Perro Aguayo b Místico

Judging from the picture, and the last 1000 matches, Perro did something illegal to Mistico but it’s not specified.

As noted yesterday, I got these results wrong last week – THIS WEEK was the title match, last week was Pesta Negra winning. If you’ve got title histories, you just need to bump the date up seven days.

CMLL (TUE) 07/29 Arena Mexico [cmll, SDP]
1) Fire & Sombrita b Electrico & Fantasy
2) Calígula, Dr. X, Méssala b Astro Boy, Molotov, Starman
3) Hijo del Faraon, Máscara Púrpura, Máximo b Puma King, Tiger Kid, Virus
4) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Volador Jr. b Damián 666, Mr. Águila, Vangelis
5) Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero b Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara

Rudos won the main event in straight falls, setting up a title match next week. I like the champions’ chances.

CMLL title matches this week got some press: Bam Bam’s title win on Sunday and the Trios champs in Puebla yesterday. Will another title match get press next week?

CMLL (MON) 08/04 Domo de la Feria, Leon [Periodico AM]
1) Carta Brava & Turbo vs Lucio & Tony
2) Batman & Robin vs el Mosco & La Morgue
3) Brazo de Plata, Metalik, Super Brazo vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Misterioso II, Nitro
4) Sangre Azteca vs La Sombra [NWA WELTER]
5) Blue Panther, Héctor Garza, Místico vs Averno, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Villano V

(No. And probably not the trios one either.) They actually list the match as for the CMLL Welter title. That’s Mistico’s title, and you’d think if any weight division title would be remarkable, it would one he holds. What percentage of the people can match champion to their title without help? 10%? 5? Sombra’s listed as defending, which is the only way I know it’s the NWA and not the National one.

El Brazo says he’s at one of the best levels of his career. He also turns a question about he and Guapito vs Alebrije & Cuije into an answer discussing his issues with drugs, so it’s slightly weird. Brazo says HE started a group called Los Metrosexuals and he invited Decnnis and Guapito to join so they wouldn’t have to fight about the “Guapos” name. Has this shown up on TV?

Zorro receives an award, looks good in a suit. Not looking as good: Groon XXX. Groon makes it sound like things are fantastic for him, so let’s just let that go.

CMLL says el Egipcio, Rambo, Kato Kung Lee and el Halcon will appear at this Friday’s Arena Mexico show as part of it’s Heroes del 75 year of honoring past stars.

There’s an AAA show promoted in La Paz this Saturday, only AAA has no show in La Paz this Saturday. Someone grabbed the logo for their own show (not using AAA wrestlers or involving the local AAA promoter) and authorities have gotten involved. They’re also putting out signs un-advertising the show, specifically so people know this isn’t an AAA event

There are talks of using AAA wrestlers in a telenovela. The story idea is a female boxer is dating a male wrestler, the wrestler gets sick, and the women must replace him (under the mask?). This would seem like an easy bit for lots of cameos.

My favorite part of the CMLL Spain roster page is Hijo del Fantasma, Metalik and Astro Boy all being said to weigh more than Arkangel.

Ovaciones has a bit on UG and Rey working on TNA shows this weekend and a possible change in the commission (Fantasma possibly stepping down and Martha Villalobos considering running for the position.) There’s also an Arturo Rivera column about the AAA/US shows and repetitive main events that I haven’t had a chance to read in much detail.

Lucha Times will go up tomorrow.

Alfonso Dantes (1943-2008)

(Superluchas) Alfonso Dantes passed away today. He was 65. Dantes was a NWA Light Heavyweight champion and also a national heavyweight champion. Dantes, a member of the WON Hall of Fame, was a second generation wrestler. His father Al Amezuca wrestled, as did his brother (original Septiembre Negro) and his sons (Cesar and Apolo). SuperLuchas credits him with created what would be known as the Tiger Suplex; it was Satoru Sayama who used in Japan, after the two had feuding in Arena Mexico in 1979. No cause of death has been made public.
