AAA 2008 TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#847)
Mexico: 08/03
US: 08/23

Once again, Vampiro and Mesais brawled around and didn’t get to a finish in time. (I forgot I had a Time Limit abbreviation, it doesn’t get used much.) Judging from the pictures, Vamp took the worst of the fight, going thru a table and needing medical help.

Cibernetico and Chessman didn’t get along once again. Halloween got in a foul on Cibernetico, and Chessman opted not to break it up, so the HBs lost and appear to be lost.

Bull terrier sounds like the standard deal of the rudos not putting on the collars and using it to get the advantage on the tecnicos, but the tecnicos coming back to win.

Hermandad beating the Hart Foundation is a miscarriage of justice.

La Hechicera replaced Ayako Hamada. Fabi pinned Cinthia.

Atomic Boy is Mini Dizzy. Someone finally figured out having a Mini Dizzy without a Dizzy was dumb. Hooray!

07/26: Mistico victorious, Alex Shelley (and TNA) wins Gran Prix

CMLL (FRI) 07/25 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, La Aficion, Ovaciones, ESTO]
1) Mini Universo 2000 & Pierrothito vs Nino de Acero & Pequeno Ninja
2) Flash, Mictlán, Stuka Jr. DQ Dragon Rojo Jr., Satánico, Virus
3) Alex Shelley b Último Guerrero, Chris Sabin, Shocker, Marco Corelone, Dr. Wagner Jr., Héctor Garza, Johnny Devine, Jay Lethal, Dos Caras Jr., AJ Styles, Sonjay Dutt, Rey Bucanero, Volador Jr., Averno, Alex Koslov [Gran Prix, ciber]
4) Místico b el Hijo del Perro Aguayo [Leyenda de Plata, final]

While there were two trophies on the line last night, a few wrestlers were actually going for an third unbilled crown – Greatest Man In The World. Ultimo Guerrero was seconds away from being the man last night, but had it stolen away. Perro Jr. showed atypical willingness to continue the fight and not take the cheap way to a conclusion, but still couldn’t survive. Mistico remains unbeatable and unstoppable when it matters, and is undoubtedly at the top.

Main event went about tweleve minutes. Perro took the first fall, with a big of cheating and the double stomp. Mistico took back the second fall with La Mistica, causing enough pain that Perro needed the arm to be checked out in the second fall. Mistico went after the hurt arm in the third fall, Aguayo trying to escape the whole way and managing to break free from La Mistica twice. As with last week, Los Perros came down to work a distraction, but Hector Garza and Dos Caras Jr. ran them off. (If only Dr. Wagner had friends!) Mistico changed tactics to win, finishing Perro off with what everyone’s reporting as a martinete and looks to me like Averno’s finish. Regardless, it was determined as fair (nothing but a tombstone style piledriver is every punished) and Mistico pin Perro for his third straight Leyenda de Plata victory. After the match, Perro invited Mistico to join Perros del Mal. Mistico declined, and challenged Perro to a mask vs hair match. No acceptance there either. Mistico is apparently around a little bit longer before heading back to China for the Olympics.

The Gran Prix was timed as nearly 1 full hour, so it’ll surely be cut up for TV. Johnny Devine did indeed wrestle instead of Chris Daniels (who I think may be in San Diego for the ComicCon right now, but I don’t remember.) Order of elimination, via SuperLuchas:
1) Alex Koslov (via Rey Bucanero – REY OWNS ALEX)
2) Averno (via Sonjay Dutt)
3) Volador Jr. (via Jay Lethal)
4) Rey Bucanero (via AJ Styles – note the run of Mexico eliminations)
5) Sonjay Dutt (via Garza)
6) AJ Styles (via UG, and a low blow)
7) Dos Caras Jr. (via Corelone – HMMMMM)
8) Jay Lethal (via Dr. Wagner)
9) Johnny Devine (via Shocker)
10) Hector Garza (via Corelone)
11) Dr. Wagner Jr. (via Sabin & Shelley double superkick)
12) Marco Corelone (via Shocker & UG after a failed Air Italia)

At this point, they’re down to Alex Shelly & Chris Sabin vs the unlikely duo of Shocker & Ultimo Guerrero

13) Shocker (via Sabin & Shelley double superkick)
14) Chris Sabin (via Ultimo Guerrero)

Shelley survived the middle rope powerbomb, and reversed the Guerrero Special into a shiranu, but neither man could get teh three count. Shelley put on one of his submission moves – the Border City Stretch? – yanking off UG’s mask in the process. Ultimo gave up, and Alex Shelley became the first foreign winner of the tournament since Steel in 1997.

Ultimo challenged Alex to a mask vs hair match. Alex deffered a response until he had more time to think about it and relax. TNA tapes this week, so if they’ve got any plans for following up on any of this, it’ll come out then. At the least, the Motor City Machine Guns would seem to be the obvious opponents for UG & Rey when they work those two TNA spot shows.

In other action, the tecnicos won the segunda when Dragon Rojo Jr. pulled off Micltan’s mask.

El Hijo del Santo visited with kids in Tijuana before wrestling there last night.

Expresso profiles local veteran wrestler Johnny “El Pulpo”

CMLL (TUE) 07/29 Arena Mexico

4) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Volador Jr. vs Damián 666, Mr. Águila, Vangelis
5) Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero vs Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara

Is there some big show elsewhere that explains Vangelis being in the semimain here? Trios champs try for three straight weeks of non-title wins.

CMLL (FRI) 08/01 Arena Mexico
1) Puma King & Tiger Kid vs Sombra de Plata & Tigre Blanco
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Luna Mágica vs Amapola, La Nazi, Princesa Sujei

5) Místico, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas vs Dr. Wagner Jr., el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Héctor Garza [ri]

Going out on a limb: no clean pinfall in the main event. Who will NOT turn on a teammate in that match? Who had “Week 3” in the “When will CMLL.com drop Jr. from Dragon Rojo” pool? He and Micltan are matched up here again.

Have not seen results from AAA in Queretaro yet. I’ll post them later this evening if they turn up.
