this week’s shows

No Elite this week. Hooray for Lucha Underground (though there’s a decent amount of good stuff after the cut.) We’re done with October, so I’ve updated the MOTYC list. I’m surprised how much stuff I’ve liked considering how dry the last month was: no Excellent in October, about 5 Greats.

Puebla preview, CMLL weekend lineups

tonight
tonight

Tonight’s Puebla show has Dragon Lee versus Polvora. That should be pretty good! Polvora is no one’s most favorite wrestler, but Polvora usually has great title matches against guys like Dragon Lee and Dragon Lee just has really great title matches. This seems like a match to go out of your way to see.

The actual main event is Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Johnny Idol versus Hechicero, Shocker, and Vangellys, which seems destined to be a quick match to get out of there (but perhaps Hechicero in the main event means they’re already setting up a title match for him.) The fourth match is Angel de Oro, Rey Cometa, Titan versus Bobby Z, Kraneo and Okumura. The Batallon del Muerte team with Arkangel face Rey Samuray, Soberano & Pegasso in a match I’d be more excited for a year or so ago. There’s two locals debuting. Sombra Diabolika teams with King Jaguar & Fuerza Chicana against Paris, Araklis and Asturiano in the second match. The show opens with father and son, Centella Roja and debuting Hijo del Centella Roja, facing Arez & Malayo.

CultIcon has a preview of the show. It’ll air at 9pm CT.

NJPW announced Rush has been added to the FantasticaMania tour. That’ll be good times. It also means he and Natio have a real chance of winning the World Tag League, since they could conceivable challenge for the IWGP tag titles on those shows.

Black Terry Jr. has photos of the Zona 23 show under a tent in Tultitlan.

Segunda Caida reviews Lucha Underground 3×7.

AAA
AAA

AAA TV (SUN) 11/20/2016 Gimnasio Municipal Jose Neri Santos, Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua [AAA]
1) El Apache, Lady Shani, Mini Psycho Clown b Big Mami, Niño Hamburguesa, Octagoncito
2) Pimpinela Escarlata b Mamba [bull terrier]
3) Averno & Chessman COR Faby Apache & Mary Apache
Tirantes helped the OGTs like usual, this time dragging Averno back in the ring after he’d been knocked out on the floor and counting out Mary. Faby challenged Tirantes to a match, and Tirantes accepted.
4) Daga, Joe Lider, Pentagón Jr. b Dave The Clown, Monsther Clown, Murder Clown
The Traidor Clowns attacked the Perros after the loss, and fought security as well.
5) Pagano b Dr. Wagner Jr., Psycho Clown
Unsurprisingly, the rudos teamed up to beat Psycho, with the hometown luchador winning. Wagner took Psycho’s mask afterwards.
6) Garza Jr., La Parka, Texano Jr. b Brian Cage, Johnny Mundo, Marty Casaus
La Parka was honored for reaching 20 years of wrestling at the start of the show. The tecnicos gave him a cake, and he smashed his own face into it. Marty was the surprise luchador. Mundo beat Garza after Taya got involved. The Clowns helped attacked the tecnicos post match. Los Perros ran the rudos off post match, with Pentagon again challenging Mundo.

Air Date: It would normally 12/03 & 12/10 – except they’re not taping again until 12/17. So something else is probably airing 12/03 and this is more 12/10 & 12/17.

Felt like just a filler show going in and it looks that way; two more weeks of TV to stretch out to whenever Guerra de Titanes is happening. The one real development is the Hijo del Tirantes/Faby Apache match. It’s not at where they thought they were going, but it makes sense – Faby and Tirantes have been feuding for six months or the entire time Faby has been a tecnica, whatever way you want to think about it. Hijo del Tirantes was a wrestler when he was starting out and still wrestles from time to time in Xalapa: he’s wrestling for a title in a couple weeks. He also wrestled way back on the 2011 Rey de Reyes. It’s another match I’m not all that interested in but makes some sense to do given how much time they’ve spent on him.

Nothing else seems to have happens on this show. Dave the Clown was group in the with the rudo allies, but it might not mean anything – if you could look back at group photos of the (many many) past rudo factions, there’d extra guys in the photos one taping just because they were booked for that taping who wouldn’t be around in the next. Dave might stick around if they ever go with the idea of adding him to Monster & Murder full time, but it’s tough tell.

Not sure how it happened, but Marty bleed a decent about after getting cut in the face in the main event.

Daga & Cage seemed to be building their own match on Twitter, which seems more interesting than most anything that happened on the show.

Next taping is 12/17 Chilpancingo.

CMLL Martes de Nuevo Valores: 2016-11-08

Panther topes
Panther topes

Recapped: 11/15/2016

What happened: Nothing? Blue Panther Jr. & Sansón had random issues. Drone remains personally unbeaten. Nothing major.

What was good: Panthers/Dinamitas is good and Maya/Virus is what you’d expected out of them for a main event. There were parts of the two top matches that were good.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s channel. Read More
