04/19 AAA TV Results (DF) – new mixed tag champs

AAA TV (SAT) 04/19/2014 Gimnasio Olímpico Juan de la Barrera, Ciudad de México, Distrito Federal [AAAMT (1-5)Terra]
1) Argenis, Ludxor, Venum b Carta Brava Jr., Eterno, Súper Fly
Bonus match. Cadetes beat Super Fly with a Spanish Fly.
2) Aerostar, Jennifer Blake, Pimpinela Escarlata b El Apache, Mamba, Taya Valkyrie
Pimpinela defeated Apache after a kiss. Super Fly attacked Aerostar after the match.
3) Daga, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Steve Pain b Angélico, Australian Suicide, Jack Evans
Daga declared himself new leader of La Anarquia, beat Jack, and challenged for a tag title shot.
4) Drago & Faby Apache b Pentagón Jr. & Sexy Star and Dark Cuervo & Mary Apache [AAA MIXED TAG]
Faby Apache & Drago came in as champions. Described as first pinfall wins and Sexy submitted Faby for the win. Sexy & Pentagon are the 13rd champions. Drago/Faby fall on second defense (they defended it off TV a couple weekends ago.)
5) Blue Demon Jr. b Villano IV
Another bloody Villano IV match, but another loss. Demon won, then bad mouthed Chessman as part of his challenge. Chessman did not accept, but said such a match would be the end of Demon.
6) Cibernético, La Parka, Psycho Clown b el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Hijo del Fantasma, Texano Jr.
Dave the Clown or someone posing as Dave the Clown attacked Psycho Clown on the way to the ring. It’s unclear if this was meant to be an angle. Psycho defeated Texano with the Destroyer. Rudos immediately all attacked the tecnicos (and Faby) as normal, with Monster and Murder Clown making the save.

Air Date: 04/26, 05/03.

The Dave the Clown bit is not mentioned in the recap, but you can currently see Dave in the pictures on AAA’s site. He’s in gear and appears to be coming from backstage, but it also appears security is already going to cut him off. Maybe it’ll make more sense when it airs (or if it’s cut.)

Juventued Guerrera formed La Anarquia as a response to being replaced as leader of Mexican Powers (when he happened to be out of the promotion for a couple years.) History repeated itself! This seemed like Juvi being written out of existence, though I’m less sure what exactly happened this time. Juvi will be back, because Juvi always ends up coming back, but hopefully we’ll get a good story about it in the upcoming days.

Daga & Steve Pain were already announced as facing Angelico & Jack on 05/02, so this change in leadership had to be planned for a little while. This also leaves the Perros del Mal down to Perro Jr., Psicosis, Black Warrior and Taya, though the distinctions between rudo groups do not mean a whole lot at this point. Anarquia hasn’t been treated as a big deal, but it’s much better for Daga to be the top guy in that group than just another Perro.

The opener was added after the fact, so maybe they didn’t just plan on Eterno working this day originally, but it looks weird to have La Anarquia member Eterno replaced in his own trio by very-part-timer Hijo del Pirata Morgan. (Or maybe Pirata’s also ending up in the group? That would be fine, not sure if that is happening. Pirates are pretty much anarchists anyway.)

Fenix wasn’t on this show, but mentioned being in the crowd to watch the show with friends and family. That probably should’ve been a hint about how the title match was going to turn out. Really cool to see Pentagon Jr. to get the recognition of winning a championship; he’s always been very good, but he’s been fantastic this year. The women/mixed titles are almost always going to bounce around between Mary, Faby and Sexy, but AAA could’ve picked any rudo to pick with Sexy Star and they chose the best one.

This is good booking. This is good booking. (I thought I needed to write that twice in case you weren’t sure what you read.) There’s stuff on the top that doesn’t appear to me, but they’re setting up good matches in the middle int he meantime and the best guy in the promotion got a big win.

tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Nitro, Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura b Hombre Bala Jr., Sagrado, Súper Halcón Jr. Hombre Bala Jr., Sagrado, Super Halcon Jr. vs Nitro, Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)

3) Blue Panther, La Máscara, Valiente b Puma, Tiger, Vangellys Blue Panther, La Mascara, Valiente vs Puma, Tiger, Vangellys, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Tecnicos took 1/3.
4) Syuri b Amapola [REINA INTL] Syuri vs Amapola for the CMLL REINA International Championship, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Seconds were Sagrada and Sangre Azteca. Amapola took falls 2/3, the last with a backcracker, to win the championship. Syuri falls on her third defense. Amapola is 7th champion, having beaten a visiting Japanese challenger for the second time in three years (Leon).
5) Atlantis, Rush, Titán b Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas Atlantis, Rush, Titan vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Tecnicos took a quick three falls match, taking falls 2/3. No specific post match challenges, though Casas and Rush are still feuding.
6) Rey Escorpión b Máximo [CMLL LHRey Escorpion vs Maximo for the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Seconds were Titan and Tiger. Maximo weighed in at 91 kg, Rey Escorpion at 92.5 kg. Maximo won the first. Rey Escorpion submitted Maximo with an arm hold in the second, and Maximo had his arm checked between falls. Rey Escorpion is champion. Eighth defense, third against Maximo.

Women’s championship was the best match on the show. It was better than expected, but the main event was also not as good as hoped. It also didn’t seem to draw anything special (maybe more than they would’ve put in Coliseo but not much more), which is a bit concerning when the Maximo/Rey Escorpion feud appears to a big part of a show this summer. I’d chalk that up more to championships meaning very little in CMLL, but it would’ve helped if the title match built the feud bigger going forward. Instead, it was a weird bit where Maximo had Escorpion beat, Tiger was allowed to run in the ring and argue with the referee to stop the count, Titan did the same on the next Escorpion spot, and Escorpion snuck in a foul in the confusion. The Tiger run-in should’ve been a DQ under CMLL rules, btu they just went overboard in trying to protect everyone and no one got anything out of it. Definitely not the people watching it.

CMLL (SUN) 04/20/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Venusino b El Payo
bonus match with novatos
2) El Tapatío b El Piraña
3) Dr. Frezzer & William Rock vs Ángel del Mal & Satara
Debut of Dr. Frezzer. Tecnicos used 1/3, with William Rock using the “Jokerdriver”.
4) Explosivo DQ Furia Nazi
5) Évola & Mugroso Vago DQ Exterminador & Javier Cruz Jr.
Rudos took 1/3, last by DQ. Challengers set up a four way hair match on 04/27.
6) Boby Zavala & Demonio Maya b Black Metal & Fuego
Rudos took 1/3, Demonio Maya beating Fuego. Maya challenged for a Occidente middleweight title on 04/27, and Fuego accepted.
7) Diamante Azul, Gallo, La Sombra b Cavernario, Herodes Jr., Terrible
Tecnicos took 1/3.

I probably need to list Exterminador as a tecnico, but I don’t think he’s long for that side. Not really sure who’s going to win.

Bernardo “Barney” Galván Sevilla, promotor of Baja Stars Wrestling in Tijuana, has passed away. The last show he promoted was the 03/01 Sin Cara versus Black Warrior match.

AAA TV announced two more tapings for the rest of May: 05/17 in Tapachula, Chiapas and 05/24 in Tuxtla Gutierrez. That’ll take them at least until the middle of June for television, up to (and maybe past) Verano de Escandalo. There may be another 12-16 day gap between tapings after Tuxtla as well, just like AAA’s now going to have right now.

This week’s Super Libre has Shiryu Dragon in studio.

Rob has highlights of early January 2001 CMLL.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Porra Fresa previews Monday’s triangle apuesta match.

Kimber Lee, from CZW and other US promotions, will be on the 05/25 ChilangaMask show. Maybe the women’s match on next week’s show leads into that?

Saeta del Ring is looking for governmental support for a lucha libre school in Campeche.

Lineup

CMLL (SUN) 04/27/2014 Arena México
***Arena Mexico 58th Anniversary***
1) Astral & Eléctrico vs Pequeño Nitro & Pequeño Olímpico
2) La Vaquerita, Lluvia, Marcela vs Amapola, Dalys, La Comandante
3) Máximo, Super Porky, Titán vs Cavernario, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
4) Valiente vs TritónDeltaGuerrero Maya Jr.Stuka Jr.Rey CometaAvernoMephistoEphestoNiebla RojaTigerPuma [Reyes del Aire]
5) Atlantis, La Sombra, Mistico vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión

And so the mystery of why nothing was set up for this show was answered. Reyes del Aire is back, though vastly scaled down and with an smaller field. It should still be an excellent match, but there are obvious omissions – including the guy in the tercera. I am a fan of Guerrero Maya Jr. and he does cool dives, but if they’re only going to have six tecnicos in this match, he should be fighting the caveman and Titan should be doing the flips. (Unless they’re spinning an Arena Coliseo tag team title match out of this, and everyone you’d suspect in the next one of those happens to be included.)

Main event is the more conventional Kids Heroes versus Mean Rudos (who will go around for the Kid’s Heroes moves.) Both this show and Tuesday’s show are splitting Kid’s Day this year, which unhelpfully falls on a Wednesday. Perhaps that’ll mean IWRG will run that day next week?

Vaquerita is scheduled for her first match here since August. She’s traveled to Japan, and then was hurt in her last match has been recovering the last couple of months. She was a ruda (and Zeuxis’ partner in crime) last we saw here, but has been a tecnica elsewhere. CMLL still seems to be searching for a young tecnica who could work, so they’ll give on more luchadora a try.

Outside the cibernetico, it’s not a very vital card, which works out well if you have other things to watch next Sunday.
