05/03: Mexico, Expo, lineup

Felino/CMLL
CMLL (FRI) 05/02 Arena Mexico [ovaciones, superluchas, cmll, ESTO]
1) Astro Boy & Kid Tiger b Apocalipsis & Ramstein
2) Dark Angel, Goddess, Luna Mágica b Hiroka, Medussa, Princesa Sujei
3) Felino, Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra b Ephesto, Misterioso II, Virus
4) Alex Koslov, Heavy Metal, Negro Casas DQ Black Warrior, Rey Bucanero, Toscano
5) el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Terrible, Villano V b Blue Panther, LA Park, Shocker
V5/Panther wasn't as mask ripping as it'd been in the past.
Metal and Toscano were messing with each other in the semimain. Toscano faked a foul to win the second fall, so Metal faked a foul to win the third fall and the match.
Not really much else of note on this show, though ESTO is down on the women's match ("at times slow and boring") and the opener (tecs won despite messing up several moves.)
My new theory, somewhat slow to come together, is we're heading to a June cage match of Panther, V5, Metal, Toscano, Garza, Mistico, Averno and Mephisto (with maybe Perro thrown in too.)
Ovaciones, ESTO and NotiMex mention the tag title rematch will take place on May 23rd. ESTO says the titles are vacant. If this is going to take a month resolve, I think they're correct.
Lucha Libre Expo News
The show opened with Atlantis, Loco Max, Charly Manson and Rocky Santana in the ring welcoming the people.
Blue Demon Jr. was telling people (including Ovaciones) that the first NWA-Mexico show will take place in June in Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera. There's been so little news about this promotion, I've forgotten to make fun of the lack of news for this promotion, but I will remind you they originally said the shows would start in May.
La Jornada followed Demon around, which reads really odd. The lead-in says Demon calling Mistico just someone who's popular in the moment, but Demon never actually says that in the article. I dunno.
Opening show:
El Pancracio (FRI) 05/02 Centro Banamex [LuchandoLibre]
1) Baby Perez, El Templario, Electrodo Jr., Meteoro Kid b Comando del Aire, Comodin Jr., El Zicario, Kumo
2) Alarido Nocturno, Halcon Diabolico I, Halcon Diabolico II b Espiral Negro, Golden Bull, Hijo de Rambo
3) Gran Markus II, Kripta, Sepulcro b Caramelo, Pinocho 3000, Super Nino
4) Escorpio Dorado Jr., Super Muenco Jr., Yakuza b Disturbio, Kilvan, Sadico
5) Rambo, Rocky Santana, Super Muneco, Super Pinocho b Coco Rojo, Coco Verde, Cocolores, Shu el Guerrero
CANEK (FRI) 05/02 Centro Banamex [LuchandoLibre]
1) Sexy Man & Shu el Guerrero b Canek Jr. & Hijo de Canek
This was a tribute match for Canek, who was on crutches here. Way to honor your father, Caneks. LuchandoLibre notes the announcer was remarkable awful (could not remember Canek's name.)
There were no lines for autographs or pictures for Generico or Shimma Xion when LuchandoLibre got thiers. No results from the IWRG show from Friday night.
MT has one two articles about the expo and what'll be going on this weekend. EXOnline has the same sort of article
IWRG (FRI) 05/02 Centro Banamex [MundioHispano]
4) Ciclon Negro, Fuerza Guerrera, Hijo de Pierroth II b Black Dragon, el Hijo Del Anibal, Multifacético
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Silver King b Hijo del Cien Caras, Máscara Año 2000, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr.
Silver King replaced "XPO" or maybe was meant to be XPO. Brawling match that went out of the ring and around the expo a little bit before the Wagner brothers beat the Capos. Wagners want a shot at IWRG Tag belts.
Mascara Ano 2000 helped out the rudos in the semimain, yanking Anibal's mask to allow him to be pinned.
Dr. Wagner Jr. was said to be very popular at the show.
Lots of photos of the event at el Martiente. The Gladiatores has more photos at box y lucha.
SuperLuchas had a dozen posts of it's WWE ticket giveaway, it seems.
----
LLF (FRI) 05/02 Arena Femenil de Monterrey [LuchandoLibrea>
1) Dama de Hierro b Wendy
2) Lady Puma & Venadita b Angelica & Rayito de Luz
3) Diana La Cazadora & Perla Negra b La Bandida & La Chacala
4) Roxxi Laveux b Polly Star [LLF INTL]
Notable becuase TNA (or maybe LLF?) had Nikki Roxx work her TNA gimmick even though she wsas promoted under her old name.
Arturo Rivera's weekend column talks about the returns of Nicho and Vampiro.
Newspaper Tree has a photo essay of lucha libre in El Paso.
A press release for the MLS Colorado Rapids/Lucha Libre double header promotes it as "the first-ever Lucha Libre Mexican wrestling event to the USA". I'm thinking no. I really have to post the 'quotes' from Santo and Demon here.
Santo:
Buenos Dias, citizens of Colorado. I am El Hijo de Santo. Perhaps you have heard of my fame in Mexico, perhaps not. I have changed the lives of millions and inspired generations with my will and spirit.Either way I come to Colorado to dominate, and you will be witness to my legend this Sunday. It is my 25th anniversary as the top Luchador in Mexico, and when I take to the ring against Blue Demon in the final match on Sunday, the Earth will tremble.
I will leap like the grasshopper and I will strike like the jaguar. And Blue Demon will feel the true extent of my power.
Only one will walk away from our match on Sunday. And that one is me, El Hijo de Santo. The last thing Blue Demon will hear is the crowd chanting my name....'The Son of the Saint'.
Enjoy the fiesta Sunday. Eat the food. Drink in the beer garden. Cheer for your Rapids to defeat their enemy from DC.
But remember this, mis amigos: when it comes time for the main event of Lucha Libre on Sunday: cheer for me, and you cheer for victory.
Saludos, El Hijo de Santo
And Demon responds:
"Fanaticos de los Rapids, I am the Blue Demon, Jr. Remember my name, for when you utter it, it will strike fear into the hearts of your enemies.Since I first picked up this mask and uniform that my father once wore, I have championed the cause of justice in the world and carried on his heart and spirt to to the pinnacle of Lucha Libre.
Cast your gaze upon me. Fear me. Love me.
El Hijo de Santo must tremble in his silver boots when his mind struggles to comprehend my invincibility.
When we lock in combat this Sunday, the shock waves of our historic struggle will be felt across nations.
I look forward to visiting Colorado and the USA for the first time. And I will leave my mark.
I will leave it in the eyes of your children, in the envy of your men, and in the hearts of your women.
This Sunday it is I who will emerge victorious. You hear it for the first time here. Let there be no mistake, there can be only one true champion of Lucha Libre, and he wears the color of azul.
I am Blue Demon. Cheer for me Sunday, and together we will bring injustice to its knees.
Hasta Domingo, Blue Demon, Jr.

CMLL TV airing top 3 from last night as I patiently await the blowaway Cadena Tres show and try to not think about next week's Arena Mex show.
La Sombra is AWESOME! And this Hijo Del Fantasma kid isn't bad either although I worry once he gets over for good he'll slip into La Mascara mode.
Rob, could you do us a favour and give us the WMP link for Cadena Tres? - i never saved it anywhere and i normally just go back through the posts on this site to get it - but there's no link/navigation bar on the right hand side of the site tonight!
I hope this works since sometimes the blog rejects posts with links in it...

Good man, thanks a lot.
Let the lucha fun commence :)
Aw man, no opener? :(
Big disappointment. The mini's torneo better go long if we're only getting 3 matches.
...
They cut out every elimination until the final 4 and are still editing the match...
Looks like it'll be over in a minute or two which leaves 1 hour and 30 minutes for the top two matches.:/
Fuck that, they butchered it to hell - what a crock of shit
Is it being cut back to 1.5hrs or something?
I dunno... all I know is this feed has different commercials so they tend to miss the start of most falls but that doesn't explain the way the match was edited at all. We saw the first few seconds, then a huge edit and I knew something was wrong b/c the guys in the ring looked tired and the crowd was screaming. Then I noticed there was barely anyone left at ringside and I got that sinking feel in my stomach.:/ Which was only made worse when they KEPT EDITING THE MATCH!
There were two or three nice spots by Dorada and Bam Bam but that was the worst editing job I've seen in quite a while and on a show that normally edits NOTHING! They even found time to show every elimination in slo-mo during the repeats! Are the Galavision people editing this show now?
Oh, they must be b/c now we are getting little girls dancing to take up time.
Maybe it is an edited show since they cut all the intros.
What a disapotining week for Lucha TV news...
The first fall of the trios match was fantastic!
I was over at some guy's house and at 11:40 saw the TV Azteca IWRG show. It was through the over the air antena, so maybe the local cable network airs the DF signal directly and that was why I had not seen it before...
Was it any good? The Oficiales vs high flyers feud looks fun even though I've never seen any of those flyers.:)
Cubs: Looks like May 23rd is a supershow. CMLL TV confirmed Metal/Toscano in a hair match + the tag titles on the line.
CMLL chickening out of running a big show opposite Triplemania or they have something else planned?
The over the air broadcast was pretty weak, unwatchable in fact, but at least it served for me to know they're actually airing it.
Well... that was more than worth the wait and certainly made up for the mini's match.
WHAT AN AWESOME MATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am still marking out over all the finisher countering which you rarely see in Mexico and Valiente finally hitting his finisher while making sure to knock Sagrado to the floor at the same time and then hit his big dive.
I know you hate La Mascara but c'mon Henrik - he was perfectly fine and that match was awesome!
really great match and a MOTYC in my opinion, great finish and great work by everyone (even la mascra!)
I wish I could of watch the whole match without being distracted every 5 minutes.
Definite MOTYC for me! They went all out and put a lot of thought into the match instead of working it as a standard everyone just does their moves and goes home match.
The little ring girls are cute.
double post
Shocker is getting a lot of air time this week.
Hmmm... the side bar of the site seems to have disapeared.:/
Not much to comment from the Arena Mexico show last night. Toscano is looking more inspired in his latest CMLL run. Heavy Metal is barely putting forth any effort in the feud so far so my gut feeling right now is that Toscano is going over and Mistico/Garza are winning the tag straps.
Tuesday's show for next week on Cadena Tres looks weak aside from the title match. Ladies being demoted to opener is great news only b/c look at that crew of ladies. It's the 'B' team. If they were to get on the show about the segunda guys it'd be pretty shitty. Bam Bam vs Pequeno Damian should be interesting. I wouldn't bet on a title switch though. It was interesting during the few minutes of the Torneo that we got to see - Dorada once again screwed up and nailed Bam Bam with a frankensteiner much like the dropkick he nailed him with in the Pequeno Reyes Del Aire. Hmmm...
Friday looks awesome! I'll save my Reyes Del Aire predictions for later but that is one fucking STACKED lineup. It's going to be impossible to call a sure fire winner. Out of the 16 entered I can only guarantee at least 6 or 7 guys not winning and the rest are a toss-up.
Needless to say I am FUCKING PISSED at that opener. Yes, it is the most amazing match in the history of the universe but just a few days ago on the DVDVR board I said:
"The mini's ALWAYS get that segunda slot at Arena Mexico and I just know this will be the week they do a Tzuki/Dorada vs Pequeno Damian/Halloween match to air on GdR next week just to piss me off."
Do I know my luck or what? This gives me 13 days to desperately seek out someone who has GdR or find an online feed. There *has* to be an online feed, right? Even worse is the least we could hope for is clips on Momentos but it'll be the week after the Reyes Del Aire! Momentos will be 100% from that match!
If there is a god - CMLL TV will get 2:45 next week and air the entire show.

I had problems getting the post up this afternoon for a couple hours, so I disabled the side bar to see if that was it. It'll be back soon.
Did anyone save the Cadena3 title match? I can always just catch it tomorrow but I tend to forget.
The reasone for the big May 23rd show at Arena Mexico is to throw competition at WWE.
The reason for the big May 23rd show at Arena Mexico is to throw competition at WWE.
I don't follow WWE so I wouldn't have known that. I'd be at Arena Mexico obviously.:)
Didn't tape Cadena Tres. When is the replay?
I thought the title match was loads of fun, but i'm nowhere near as high on it as you guys. It was probably more than what i expected from a tecnico v tecnico match, so i enjoyed it for what it was - but it was nowhere near what i'd
expect MOTY level to be. Partly because for all the spectacular moves, crispness and lighning fast pace, at the end of the day it was still pretty much just an out & out spotfest, albeit one with an extended and exciting finish. But also just due to the fact that for me, not having any riudos involved makes it kinda hard to get into, when there's so much of what makes lucha great missing
Most impressive was Valiente by a mile, he was head and shoulders above any of the other 5. He would probably be as good a rudo as he is tecnico, and i think i can actually remember an interview where he said he'd like to work rudo. His name might be a bit of a problem though, maybe he'd have to change it to Cobarde Jr Jr :)
If i could compare it to anything, it would probably be an extended version of any of the 'Reyes Del Aire'/Havana Pitbull Matches in 2003. Great fun, but with little depth and not really something you'd go back to much
Couldn't be bothered watching the main. I'd be astounded if i live to regret it. Mising out on Los Guillereros, Sombra, Angel Aztcea and half the minis was a real bummer - and considering our expectations i don't think the title match could compensate for that no matter how good it was,
Whats the story with GdR?
Replay is same time on Sunday. I should catch it then.
I can't get 52MX GdR any more so no idea what aired.
I know there's a thread on DVDMB I need to respond to but I'm still in the process of figuring out what I should have. On the upside, tons of AAA recaps coming this week.
Double check that start time on Cadena Tres for Sunday. I could swear they are advertising some MLS games and even baseball. Just a heads up.
replying to luchalibrelive!
Keith is a winner: no show tomorrow because of MLS.
Less time pointing out when great matches won't air again, Keith - more time finding an online feed for Canal52MX!:p
I'll ask around on Martinete if someone can upload it.
AAA 5/2 results are up on their website and it looks like Konnan doesn't only steal ideas from 1995 ECW any more. He's up to 1997 WWF!
It just came to me...
Why isn't Super Nova in the Reyes Del Aire?
Because they want La Mascara in the match and who else are you going to take out? Flash is the only of his level and you'd rather have Flash.
Loco Max? Efesto? They've done this match with 9 tecnicos and 1 rudo before. Last year they did it with 4 rudos out of 16 wrestlers. Super Nova was even in last year's version. Quite the oversight although I'm still hoping for a last minute sub.
