06/20: Coliseo, Monterrey, SLP

CMLL (TUE) 06/19 Arena Coliseo
1) Fantasy & Tsuki b Fire & Sombrita
2) Astro Boy, Sensei, Trueno b Artillero, Hooligan, Super Comando
3) Stuka Jr., Tiger Metalico, Tigre Blanco b Arkangel, Mr. Mexico, Nitro
4) Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus b Felino, Maximo, Sombra
5) Alex Koslov, Heavy Metal, Marco Corleone b Eclipse, Sangre Azteca, Ultimo Guerrero

So now Warrior’s been missing Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday (Eclipse replacing him here.) Note ESTO‘s listing of Puebla and Coliseo’s lineup – they did expect Warrior to miss this show, but not Monday’s. CMLL’s website still lists Warrior working this show. CMLL.com notes Sahori will be out three weeks with a knee injury, but doesn’t say anything at all about Warrior, so I think there’s something bigger going on here. It’d be neat to have AAA TV tapings results.

Coreone won the main event with a pinfall over Ultimo. Mr. Mexico filled in for Loco Max. Not much news from this show.

CMLL (MON) 06/18 Domo de la Feria [am.com.mx]
1) Dr. Wagner, Shocker, Vampiro b Atlantis, Olimpico, Universo 2000

Vampiro, with a rare match outside of Guadalajara, got the pin over Universo.

AAA (SUN) 06/24 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [rfc]
1) Aguila Extreme & Panterita del Ring II vs Invasor & Mercurio
2) Orus & Ramses vs Barba Roja & Karis
3) Estrellita & Josselin vs May Flowers & Polvo de Estrellas
4) Pimpinela Escarlata & the Mummy vs Antifaz & Hator
5) Charly Manson & Gronda II vs Monsther & Pirata Morgan

How many articles have their been in the Sol de San Luis (Potosi) about tonight’s AAA house show? 1 (06/20), 2 (06/19), 3 (06/18), 4 (06/17), 5 (06/16), 6 (06/10), 7 (06/09), 8 (06/07), 9 (06/05), 10 (06/03) – that I can find quickly. 75% of the text is the same in each one.

05/23: Coliseo, La Parka Jr., LdP change, NWA tournament, AULL anniversary show, Guadalajara, Monterrey

CMLL (TUE) 05/22 Arena Coliseo [ova]
1) Mini Olimpico & Ultimo Dragoncito b Mini Damian 666 & Mini Halloween
2) Sensei, Stuka Jr., Trueno b Artillero, Jeque, Super Comando
3) Tigre Blanco, Tigre Metalico, Tony Rivera b Dr. X, Loco Max, Nitro
4) Ephesto, Okumura, Sangre Azteca b Fabian el Gitano, Felino, Mictlan
5) Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero, Universo 2000 DQ Dos Caras Jr., Rey Bucanero, Volador Jr.

Main event was all pushing Ultimo Guerrero vs Volador Jr., with Ultimo ripping Volador’s mask and faking a foul for victory. In the segunda, Starman was replaced by Stuka, and Jeque filled in for Ramstein, so the Jeque/Stuka feud was back for at least one night.

In it’s recap of AAA’s 05/20 TV Taping, Ovaciones states La Parka Jr.’s rehab is not going well, he’s not close to being cleared, and will be out longer than expected.

This week’s Leyenda de Plata lineup has changed. As expected, Mistico is out of the tournament itself, moved to the main event in Marco Corelone’s spot (so they can begin teasing Aguila/Mistico for 06/01.) Sagrado takes his place, and since we’re not actually rebooking anything after lineup changes, he’s the heavy favorite to win. Texano replaced La Mascara, who’s out hurt.

Sicodelico Jr. will be part of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament. (Oddly, there’s a video promo with Nicho challenging for the belt, but not Sicodelcio. Plans change.) It’s a 16 man tournament, and he’s got to face someone named “Roughneck Ryan”, who’s theoretically one of the top 16 contenders in all the world despite being named “Roughneck Ryan”. Also, I’m not sure why two guys from the Texas area are having a first round match in Tennessee, but them there’s the breaks. If Sicodelico Jr. moves on, and gosh I hope he doesn’t lose to Roughneck Ryan, he’ll probably face Claudio Castagnoli and I would totally endorse that match happening. If Sicodelico Jr. wins the NWA Title, I think we’ll have to change the “Did the Gran Alternativa win lead him onto bigger things?” bit on the wiki to a Yes.

The word on the street – people all over the streets are talking about the NWA title tournament, naturally – is Byran Danielson will win end up winning the tournament. (Though now that even I know, it’ll be switched.) In a recent interview with Figure Four, Danielson talked a bit about wanting to do a stretch of wrestling in Mexico to learn how to wrestle lucha – he’s worked one Toryumon Mexico show, but that’s about it. If Bryan Danielson wins the NWA Title, CMLL absolutely must bring him in, because that’d be the awesomest thing possible ever. I’d be cool too if it was Claudio or Sicodelico and I’d understand if Danielson’s NOAH tieup means he’s got to AAA (because that’d could brilliantly insane), but just the concept of Danielson with the NWA Heavyweight Belt taking on, say, Mistico would be so fun, and probably draw. I think the NWA name actually might mean more in Mexico than it does in the US, because the Light Heavyweight title has fared quite a bit better than Heavyweight one over the last 18 years.

AULL (SAT) 05/19 Arena Lopez Mateos [KrisZ]
1) Tortugillio Ninja I, Tortugillio Ninja II, Tortugillio Ninja III b Pequeno Porro I, Pequeno Porro II, Pequeno Porro III
2) Haku, Mr. Potro, Yakuza b Angel de Fuego, Infierno, Kilvan
3) Epidemia & Robin Maravilla b El Solito & Psicopata [AULL TAG]
4) Sepulturero I b Hermano Sepulturero [name]
5) America Salvaje, Rey Krimen, Sadico b King Star Tiger, Mano Negra Jr., Terry 2000
6) Dos Caras Jr., Vampiro, Volador Jr. b Hijo de Cien Caras, Hijo del Cien Caras, Universo 2000

There’s a billion photos of this show over at El Martinete. AULL will be hosting a benefit show for El Signo on 07/01, who needs money for spinal surgery.

CMLL (SUN) 05/20 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [KrisZ]
1) Casanova b Flama
2) Exterminador & Metatron b Destroyer & Rey Trueno
3) Rayman b Sagrado, Flash, Gallo, Metal Blanco, Cien Caras Jr., Mr. Trueno, Toxico, Malefico, Infierno [ciber]
4) Damian 666, Mr. Aguila, Terrible b Hijo de Lizmark, Vampiro, Volador Jr.

In the main, Terrible pinned Vampiro once again after a foul. Rayman & Sagrado want a shot at the Cien Caras Junior brothers Occidente Tag titles.

AAA (SUN) 05/20 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [rfc]
1) Mercurio & Virtual X b Ben Hur & Guerrero Negro Jr.
2) Ramses (ACM) & the Mummy b Karis & Orus
3) Estrellita, Hombre Sin Miedo, Octagoncito b Hechicera, Mini Chessman, Rey Infernal
4) Aventurero, Hator, Histeria b Angel, Brazo, Pimpinela
5) Charly Manson b Alan Stone

Pimpi is hurt, obviously so, and worked anyway.

indy (FRI) 06/01 Auditorio de Tijuana
1) Sparks vs Conde Murcielago
2) Pandillero I & Pandillero II vs Hijo de Kendo & Super Rino
3) Rubi Gardenia & Torando Negro vs Diamantina & Enfermero Jr.
4) Ku Kluk Klan I & Super Muenco vs Hijo de Rey Misterio & Ninja [ri]
5) Blue Demon Jr., Medico Asesino Jr., Rey Misterio vs Cien Caras Jr., Espectro Jr., Nicho

This is being promoted at Medico Asesino Jr.’s retirement match.

Medio Tiempo has a long interview/biography of Cibernetico on their site. Being an antihero and all, he doesn’t understand how parents would allow their children to be fans of his, though he gets why kids might be fans anyway.

(Notimex) A new lucha libre gym was opened in the Jardin Balbuena section of Mexico City.

Either this week’s GdR review or the opener y’all want to hear about will be posted later tonight – that’s the plan, anyway.

05/18: Parka Jr. still out, GdI one night team up, Maximo wins tournament

(make sure you check the headline story below, if you haven’t been here this morning.)

Guess who ALSO is still out hurt? La Parka Junior! This is what I get for reading newspapers.

AAA LG (WED) 05/16 Palenque de la Feria, Celaya [El Sol del Bajio]
1) Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz b Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Juventud Guerrera
2) Estrellita, Rey Cometa, Super Fly b Angel Mortal, Polvo de Esterllas, Rossy Moreno
3) Octagón, Super Calo, Zorro b Antifaz del Norte, Kenzo Suzuki, Muerte Cibernetica

The article does not bring up the vow that Parka would indeed wrestle on these shows. Parka did sign autographs, and ran in during the main event to help the tecnicos. Calo replaced him in the match. Rey Cometa filled in for Pimpinela, so I guess Cometa isn’t hurt. Or less hurt.

Ovaciones reports IWRG and Dragon Gate have signed an talent exhcange agreement. No details. Perhaps if IWRG’s website was up…anyway, Pentagon Black is already working in both places, so I’m not sure what this exactly means. Maybe Turbo will be an IWRG regular? Maybe Veneno will go to Japan (and will he be allowed back in Mexico if he does?) I dunno.

CMLL (THU) 05/17 Arena Isabel de Cuerbavaca [Dark Atlantis @ box y lucha]
1) Bestia Metalia & Epidema b Aspid & Cabllero de Fuego
2) Cholo & Vampiro Metalico DQ Antaris & Robin
3) Eclipse & Olimpico b Alex Koslov & Super Brazo
4) Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy, Ultimo Guerrero b Blue Demon Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr., Lizmark Jr. [ri]

One time GdI teamup in a relevos incredible match. Rey teased making this a permanent turn. Bad turnout for the show, though – rain was some part responsible.

CMLL (TUE) 05/15 Arena Queretaro [Knotty @ el martinete]
1) Eragon b Luminoso
2) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II b Escandalo & Startron
3) Corsario & Espiritu Negro b Principe Valiente Jr. & Toro
4) Maximo b Astro Boy, Flash, Leono, Super Nova, Stuka Jr. [Trofeo Francisco Flores]
5) Blue Demon Jr. & La Mascara b Damian 666 & Mr. Aguila

Super pictures at the link, as usual. Flash replaced a hurt Valiente. I don’t dislike Maximo as much as some of you dislike Maximo and he’s clearly the biggest star in that match, but….he’s quite the odd man out in that crew. By coincidence, ESTO has a interview with Maximo. His goals include getting revenge on Texano Jr., winning the CMLL LH title, and beating Ultimo Guerrero’s mask. It’s good to dream.

CMLL (TUE) 05/29 Arena Queretaro
1) Dark Angel & Marcela vs Amapola & Princesa Sujei
2) Corsario vs Toro [hair]
3) Perro Aguayo Jr. & Terrible vs Dos Caras Jr. & Marco Corelone

Well, that’s the tentative lineup anyway.

(El Sol de Toluca)There was an AAA show advertised for Toluca on Wednesday. I had a lineup for it (though I can’t recall from where – I want to say it was listed on AAA’s site, though it’s not up there now), but apparently the local Box Y Lucha commission didn’t know, and the show didn’t take place. People did buy tickets, but there’s no promoter to get a refund from, and the commission isn’t going to help because they didn’t approve the show.

Do fans commonly know which shows have been okayed by the local commissions? I would find that surprising; this seems more like the commission distancing themselves from the problem.

Yesterday, we had a story with a person complaining about injured wrestlers not being taking care of by promoters in Monclova. Today, in the same paper, the promoter and the injured wrestlers themselves angrily responded. The promoter’s been paying the wrestler’s downside while they’re out. This really should’ve been one article and not two; I don’t know why the promoter had to track down the article writer here.

Jam! has an article about the Vampiro documentary. Read to the end for the story about Vampiro’s girlfriend at the time.

El Heraldo De Chipas has an interview with Sexi Star. The interviewer’s first question is asking what the name means, but it gets a bit more useful from there. Sexi Star says she was in boxing pre-AAA, but her mother preferred she wrestled.

In an (subscriber only) interview with Figure Four Daily, Mike Quackenbush said, in his conversations with the CMLL offices, Mistico costs $3,000 to $3,500 depending on the day, and that’s before flights or additional fees. It’d probably be significantly more for a weekend day in the US, since CMLL would want compensation for those other shows Mistico wouldn’t be making it too, Quackenbush noted.

I’ll preview the Arena Mexico show a bit later.

05/17-2: Coliseo, Guadalajara results

CMLL (TUE) 05/15 Arena Coliseo

4) Depredador b Ebola
5) Metalik b Infierno
6) Euforia, Nosferatu, Satanico b Gallo, Magnum, Rayman
7) Emilio Charles Jr. & Terrible b Blue Panther & Vampiro

Terrible snuck in a low blow on Vampiro and got the pin.

04/24: Coliseo, Vampiro, Mass at Arena Mexico

Last night’s Coliseo show was an odd one. Someone felt like booking angles, which is bizarre for a Tuesday show.

CMLL (TUE) 04/24 Arena Coliseo [ovaciones, cmll, DIOS @ box y lucha]
1) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II DQ Caligula & Messala
2) Brillante, Stuka Jr., Tony Rivera b Artillero, Hooligan, Super Comando
3) Euforia, Loco Max, Nosferatu b Felino, Mictlan, Satanico
4) Maximo, Texano Jr., Virus DQ Goto, Ohara, Okumura
5) Alex Koslov, Negro Casas, Shocker b Atlantis, Tarzan Boy, Ultimo Guerrero

Alex submitted Atlantis in the main event. This is their fourth straight Tuesday opposing each other, and it sounds like it’ll be five, because Alex wants a shot at the NWA Light Heavyweight Title.

Maximo and Texano Jr. got ramped up for their big title defense on Sunday…by turning on each other! It looks like Maximo got a five man beating, with both Texano and Virus attacking him (which someone meant they won by DQ, but never mind.) No idea why – Ovaciones mentions “miscommunication”, and hints we’re already headed to a Virus/Maximo hair match. Sagrado/Texano/Maximo have zero chance of retaining the Mexican trios belts on Sunday.

In the tercera, Satanico returned to do rudo side on a permanent basis, betraying Mictlan and Felino to help his new students (Eufora and Nosferatu.) After the match, the Nuevo Nuevo Nuevo Infernales beat up Loco Max for good measure.

Caligula yanked one of the Tapatios masks. Stuka beat Super Comando.

CMLL (TUE) 05/01 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Thunder Boy vs Milenio
2) Casanova vs Fraile de la Muerte
3) Idolo vs Mr. Trueno
4) Evola vs Danger
5) Leon Blanco vs Egipcio
6) Gallo, Magnum, Stuka vs Malefico, Mascara Magica, Toxico
7) Rayman & Vampiro vs Black Warrior & Eclipse

So he’s back as a tecnico. Good to know.

(El Porvenir) Arena Mexico is often called the cathederal of Lucha Libre. This Saturday, it’s going to be a stand in church. As far as I can tell from the article, they’re having a religion convention at the normal huge church in town. It wraps up on Sunday, but theyr’e not going to be able to hold Saturday mass there as a result, and so they’re renting out Arena Mexico. To cover the rent, they’re selling tickets to church – ringside tickets are 50 pesos ($4.55US). I hope service is randomly interrupted by a Mistico chant.

This means Arena Mexico will have an event three straight days (normal Arena Mexico, mass, special show on Sunday), and also three Saturdays in a row (mass, Luchas 2000, Toryumon)

AAA’s preview of Friday’s taping including Crazy Boy talking about extreme wrestling.

(Suburban Chicago News) About 1.5 hour away from me, in Waukegan, IL, the library will be celebrating Day of the Kid by bringing in Espectro and La Parkita (listed here as brothers) to talk about life as lucha libre wrestler. Those pictures sure look familiar.

(Beaumont Journal) Beaumont, TX’s first ever Cinco de Mayo festival will include some lucha libre matches; main event is Pentagon Black/Xochitl Hamada vs Sicodelico Jr./Miss Vicky. Tickets are $15-$25 for the whole event, including a music peformance which seems to be the main act. You can get the tickets around town, and at ticketmaster.com

El Sol de Tampico has a obit for wrestler Alejandro Montana.

IWRG’s site is still down. So is El Halcon’s.

03/27: Guadalajara, IWRG, Monterrey, Puebla

CMLL

CMLL (TUE) 03/20 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [cmll]
1) Estrella de Jalisco b Imposter
2) Fraile de la Muerte b Nube Roja
3) El Egipcio b Rey Marisal
4) Stuka Jr. & Tigre Blanco b Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
5) Máximo, Sagrado, Satánico b Maascara Ano 2000, Malefico, Máscara Mágica
6) Último Guerrero DQ Marco Corelone

First time CMLL’s posted Guadalajara results since early Feburary. (The results say 03/13, but it’s the 03/20 card.) Wouldn’t you know it, something intersting happened – Ultimo faked a foul and drew a DQ from the rudo referee, Marco started to leave, when he was confronted by Vampiro. Vampiro challenged Corleone to a match, next time he was in Guadalajara. I think Robert gave away CMLL booking plans.

IWRG (SUN) 03/25 Arena Naucalpan
1) Comando Gama & Vampiro Metálico b Celstial & Zella
2) Antaris & Bacteria b Black Thunder & Narcosatanico I
3) Esfinge, Kai, Yamato b El Hijo del Diablo, Trauma I, Trauma II
4) Fantasma de la Ópera, Pierroth Jr., Veneno DQ Freelance, Suicida, Turbo
5) Damián 666, Misterioso II, Villano III DQ El Dandy, Máscara Sagrada, Sagrado

El Dandy gave Villano III a martiente, and that was the end of that. Rambo was among those people checking on Villano III – the recap mentions Rambo’s the IWRG “Technical Director” (booker? why would they mention that?) – and somehow this led to Dandy making a challenge for a three way hair match, Dandy vs V3 vs Rambo. Once again, why? (Dandy will says it’s because Villano III took Rambo’s mask and hair many times, but – why?)

Suicida got DQed twice beating up Fantasma in the semifinal, and demanded a title shot. I don’t think that’s how that works.

Los Traumas LOST. A sad day for us all.

indy (SUN) 03/25 Arena Coliseo Monterrey
1) Mini Payaso Cero DRAW Beto Alcala
2) Angel Negro & Black Nazi b Ave Azul & Erin Snake
3) Arcangel (Monterrey) & Chuy Escobedo Jr. b La Fiera & Zulu
4) Ejecutor & Red Flamer b Corazon Adicto & Ultraman Jr.
5) Al Barone, Silver Cat, Silver Star b Golden Boy, Hijo de Anibal, Huracan Ramriez Jr.
6) Konan Big b Sky, Casanova, Pancho Tequila, Super Konan [FILL SUPER HEAVY]

La Fiera is working the segunda? At least La Fiera is working. Main event was supposed to be a cage match, was supposed to include Konnan King, but it’s Arena Coliseo Monterrey so you get what you pay for.

CMLL (MON) 03/26 Arena Puebla [hugo999]
1) Ares & Mr. Rafaga b Forajido & King Jaguar
2) Espiritu Maligno, Siki Osama Jr., Toro Bill Jr. b Asturiano, Blue Center, Tigre Rojo
3) Loco Max, Maniacop, Skandalo b Batman, Máximo, Texano Jr.
4) Damián 666, Halloween, Mr. Águila b Fuerza Chicana, Furia Chicana, La Mascara
5) Marco Corelone, Místico, Rey Bucanero b Averno, Máscara Año 2000, Último Guerrero

Los Chicanas replaced Metal and Volador Jr.

Super Luchas #205 is all about the WWE tour.

Mistico explained to El Sol de Tampaco that he’s missed previous bookings in the area because he was either injured, or announced as wrestling before the contract was actually signed and ended up booked elsewhere. He understands why local fans would be upset, and vows to be there tomorrow, for his tag title defense against Warrior and Averno.
