09/14 CMLL Anniversary Show Lineup

CMLL.com

CMLL (FRI) 09/14/2012 Arena Mexico
***79th Anniversary Show***
1) Dalis la Caribeña, Goya Kong, Marcela vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Tiffany
2) Delta, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Ephesto, Mephisto, Niebla Roja
3) Ángel de Oro, La Sombra, Titán vs Namajague, Shigeo Okumura, Taichi
4) Rey Cometa vs Puma King [mask]
5) Atlantis, Mistico, Prince Devitt vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Negro Casas, Último Guerrero
6) Rush vs Terrible [hair]

Either the Guerreros get back together this Friday, or that’s a free win for Atlantis, Mistico and Devitt. (They should do Prince Devitt vs Negro Casas this time.)

Probably not much of a story in the bottom half of the card, though they’ve put together a Mexico vs Japan trios in the tercera. (The tercera is the new main event.) That match could be good, as could a lot of the ones on this card.

I was all set to be upset about Dalis making the lineup, but then I couldn’t figure out who she actually be there. I guess maybe Estrellita (who was doing interviews talking about how she should be on this card this morning; this is probably not news to here), but it’s hard to worked in Estrellita’s defense. There’s no good candidates. It’s easier to argue that Lady Apache should be on the show instead of Tiffany, or that CMLL really shouldn’t have a women’s match on the show this year.

Perro Jr. talks return, Guerrero still the champ, Diamante/Signo advance

CMLL

CMLL (FRI) 04/29/2011 Arena Mexico
***Arena Mexico 55th Anniversary***
1) Dr. X, Hooligan, InquisidorPegasso, Sensei, Starman
2) Hijo del Fantasma, Sangre Azteca, ValienteMisterioso Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Vangelis
3) Hijo del SignoPuma King [Forjando un Idolo]
Hijo del Signo [6] submitted Puma Kind [0] to move on.
4) DiamanteHombre Bala Jr. [Forjando un Idolo]
Dimanate [9] pinned Hombre Bala Jr. [3] to complete his clean sweep. Signo moves on with Bala’s win.
5) Último GuerreroHirooki Goto [CMLL HEAVY]
Rudo took the first fall, but Guerrero came back to win the final two to keep the title.
6) La Máscara, La Sombra, RushAverno, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
Despite Tirantes refereeing, the tecnicos still won in straight falls. Heavy feuding between Averno

Perro Aguayo Jr. held a press conference to talk about his surgery and announce his return. Tons of reports: MedioTiempo, Mi Lucha Libre, The Gladiatores, Estrellas del Ring, Record

Perro says he’s on food reactions, his blood will be tested regularly, he’s on medication, he’s not able to lift the weight he used to, but the doctors encouraged him to get back to work ASAP. Huh. Perro’s hair is shorter – he says the hospital did what Mistico or Wagner couldn’t do. A lot of challenges towards Wagner to keep that feud going. Perro spoke out against rumors that he’d actually been in rehab for substance abuse, declaring them false and his illness real. Since he mentioned it, the time span of his disappearing act was much close to the normal rehab stint than a operation on a vital organ, but he does have a surgical scar in his favor.

Ras de Lona included the official formation of a trio that’s been going for about ten days. Terrible & Texano announced they’ve left Hijos de Averno & Rey Bucanero had left Pesta Negra to form a new trio. (They asked for names, which never ever goes anywhere, and I thought they had a name.) Zacarias tried to join the group, and they all kicked him away. Zacarias latched on to Bucanero’s leg, but Terrible & Texano pulled him off. Zacarias gestured at the rudos, and they all chased him away.

Other stuff: Both the 05/08 and 05/15 Sunday shows are in Arena Mexico. DragonMania is probably 05/14 in Arena Mexico as well, so a lot of shows. Those are discounted shows, as are the 05/10 (1 peso for kids) and 05/03 (Fan Appreciation) shows. Cheap tickets before WWE comes to town? Strong push for Ultimo Guerrero vs Rey Escorpion (new change was quickly mentioned and then treated as no big deal.)  Goto talked in Spanish about the title match.

AAA in AJPW
04/30: Suwama (O), Shuji Kondo, Hiroshi Yamato b Ryota Hama (X), Super Crazy, Bushi
That wraps the tour.

Update: Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 05/03/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Javier Cruz Jr. vs In Memoriam
2) Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno vs Evola & León Blanco
3) Guerrero Maya Jr. & Starman vs Infierno & Malefico
4) Ángel de Oro, Delta, Magnus vs Cancerbero, Euforia, Pólvora
5) La Sombra, Rush, Toscano vs Mr. Águila, Olímpico, Psicosis

Main event is a rematch from last week, so they’re setting up something for next week. No idea what.

Note Maya is on this card.

CMLL (TUE) 05/03/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Camaleón & Robin vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Bam Bam, Mini Maximo, Pequeño Halcón vs Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior
3) Fuego, Pegasso, Rey Cometa vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Skándalo
4) Diamante, Metro, Sangre Azteca vs Misterioso II, Raziel, Virus
5) Black Warrior, Máximo, Super Porky vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Héctor Garza, Mr. Niebla

Fan Appreciation Show, but since they’re coming back with another cheap ticket the following week, some match is being set up here. Couldn’t tell you what.

This is Bam Bam’s only second DF match since losing his title two months ago, and he hasn’t been appearing much elsewhere.

CMLL (FRI) 05/06/2011 Arena Mexico
5) Blue Panther, Rush, Strong Man vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano
6) La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada vs Atlantis, Averno, Último Guerrero

No tiebreaker match. Maybe I misunderstood? CMLL’s Forjando un Idolo page also says there will be a tiebreaker match if neither Guerrero Maya or Metal Blanco gets a bonus point. That won’t happen until after Sunday’s show and Maya is supposed to be in GDL on Tuesday, so that just leaves an added match to Monday. (Or Maya just getting pulled off GDL show. Or CMLL just ignoring it. Or doing match in an empty arena and putting it up on YouTube for fun.)

Main event is sort of top rudos vs top tecnicos (who happen to be the trios champs.) With Rush, Strong Man, Terrible and Texano on the show too, they’ve loaded it up with their big names even if they don’t have a big match.

IWRG, Terrible & Texano, Incognito

IWRG (THU) 12/10 Arena Naucalpan [The Gladiatores via Luchando Libre]
1) Dinamita Kid b Keshin Black
2) Avisman & Gringo Loco b Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II
3) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro b Freelance, Ultramán Jr., Zatura
4) Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II DQ Barba Roja, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr.
5) Angelico, Bushi, Pantera b Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro

Trauma II unmasked and tossed it to Hijo de Piarata to draw the DQ. Attendance looks bad, and it’s blamed on the first leg of the Apertura 2009.

From reading some articles on the La Vanguardia site, they might have been broadcasting part of a Perros del Mal show in a Satillo yesterday. The only thing they have of it now is a short clip.

R de Rudos has an interview with Terrible & Texano. Texano says they’re going to NJPW in the early part of 2010 for a rematch versus No Limit, which even I had already figured out.

CMLL’s news page says the Brazo family trio (Maximo, Porky, Mascara) wants to make a run at the trios champs. This would probably come to Mascara, currently a trios champion. Maybe they mean the national champions, which currently are Sangre Azteca, Dragon Rojo, and A Person Who No Longer Exists So Stop Asking Questions About Him, but they’re stuck in line behind the Cerebro Terribles for that one, and the line ain’t moving.

Mas Lucha, a blog I was unfamiliar with until WagnerMania linked to them, says Incognito will be getting tryouts on WWE’s next trip thru Texas (12/14 – fixed!). Incognito says he will demand to go straight to the main WWE roster, and not go to developmental like Dos Jr. Good luck on that.

The AAA movie’s started to get promoted, with the release under a month away. In interviews about the movie, Cibernetico makes the case that this movie is more serious than the Santo movies, because they fight robots instead of vampires. I might have selectively quoted him there. Releases outside of Mexico will be announced sometime after the premiere.

AAA posted a video interview with the producer of the AAA video game. I think I caught them talking about how many people would be in the game, and the producer saying that wasn’t locked down at this point.

Cronicas y Leyendas writes about Vampiro in el Toreo and Tamba the flying elephant.

Kidnapped by Ninjas has a review of UWA classics

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update, including a three way match for the NWA Title.

SuperLuchas #344 has results from Guerra de Titanes.

CMLL (TUE) 12/15 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Bengala vs Cholo & Zayco
2) Fabián el Gitano, Metatrón, Tigre Blanco vs Inquisidor, Puma King, Tiger Kid
3) Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata vs Cancerbero, Pólvora, Raciel
4) Fuego, Sagrado, Stuka Jr. vs Sangre Azteca, Vangelis, Virus
5) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Metro vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Felino, Negro Casas

Metro in the main event! Fuego in the semimain! The ex-Romans in the tercera! Guadalajara’s Metatron making a cameo! They’re not charging full price for this show, as amazing as that seems. (Actually looks pretty good, but no one is going.) Poor Astro Boy must hate life, being stuck in the opener even on this show.

No full Friday lineup yet, but Ras de Lona had it as Super Sky Team vs Terrible/Tarzan/Mephisto.

12/13: Mexico results, CMLL plans change, GDL Festival

CMLL (FRI) 12/12 Arena Mexico [superluchas, ESTO, Ovaciones, SoloLucha]
1) Inquisidor & Pólvora b Sombra de Plata & Starman
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Lluvia b Hiroka, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Sujei
3) Terrible b Marco Corleone, Texano Jr., Dos Caras Jr., Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Shocker, Blue Panther, Rey Bucanero, Toscano, Villano V, Sagrado, Misterioso II, Valiente, Ephesto, Máximo [LdA]
4) Místico DQ Último Guerrero

Main event was a near 20 minute match. UG took the first, Mistico took the second, and the third ended by DQ when Mistico dived towards Ultimo, but Ultimo grabbed Tony The Cartoonist’s canvas and smached with Mistico with it on the way down. SuperLucha has the first fall over in about 3 minutes, which ESTO lists as “less than five minutes.”

People voted for 11 different people to win the Leyenda de Azul. Terrible got no voes and won. Order of elimination is listed above, with Villano V replacing Lizmark. Story of the match was the three Hijos de Averno working together. When it was down to Dos/Marco and Terrible/Texano, the two rudos took out Dos together. Texano got pinned next, but he and Ephesto stayed around ringside to distract Corleone into being fouled by Terrible. SuperLuchas has the match at 36 minutes, I think.

SoloLuchas says attendance was up, but it doesn’t look good from the shot of Mistico and Ultimo Guerrero. They both could be right.

Ovaciones reportes CMLL has changed their minds and will continue to run Arena Mexico Tuesday and Friday for the rest of the year. CMLL is thinking of running big shows on 12/23 and 12/30 (Fridays) and may announce them well in advance, plus Tuesday January 6 will be another fan appreciation day.

I thought IWRG was supposed to be done this week as well, but there’s a mention of them running a 10 man cage match next Sunday with Scorpio Jr., Fuerza Guerrera, Arlequin, Pierroth II, Multifacetico, Zumbido, Cerbero Negro, Tetsuy and Mascara Ano 2000.

Lots of articles on the first day of the Guadalajara Lucha Libre expo
– Local papers Informador, milenio and La Jornada covered the show, as well as a local reporter for MT who filed three different articles: the AAA undercard, on the main event, and on those being honored and what’s to come the next two days.

Milenio says 3000 people showed up for the wrestling portion of the show. It sounds like attendance was not as expected; the show was delayed 30-40 minutes as they waited for “enough” people to move to the bleachers to start the show, and the Milenio article mentioned ticket giveaways. The MT report has a good photo of the setup. Having this outdoors in December did not help, with a lot pointing out how cold it was while watching the events.

AAA (FRI) 12/12 Guadalajara Lucha Libre Festival
5) La Parka Jr., Mesias, Octagón b Jack Evans, Konnan, Teddy Hart

Main event was supposed to be Parka/Octagon vs Mesias/Konnan, but Mesias and Konnan refused to get along based off current storylines and they turned it into a trios. The other matches sound like they happened as scheduled, just no results reported.

The MT article says the idea was great but the execution was horrible. A complete lack of security put the wrestlers in danger. The semimain guys were pelted with drinks for the bleachers. (There were announcements to stop it, but no one actually forcing them too.) After the main event, the crowd jumped the barricade to get close to the tecnicos, who had to fight thru the crowd to get to the back. AAA wrestlers were angry enough to blow off the press after the show.

WagnerMania has video and pictures of the booths and other parts of the show not relating to the AAA show.

SuperLuchas has the first round results of the Latin American tournament in Peru.

News American has an article on San Jose lucha promotion >Pro Wrestling Revolution and includes this line:

According to American wrestler “Strongman” Jon Andersen, Pro Wrestling Revolution is the most successful wrestling promoter in the United States.

CMLL (TUE) 12/16 Arena Mexico
1) Angel de Oro & Tigre Blanco vs Camorra & Inquisidor
2) Pegasso, Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr. vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Nitro, Skandalo
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Mascara Dorada, Valiente vs Ohara, Shigeo Okumura, Virus
4) Sangre Azteca vs Dragon Rojo Jr. [MEX WELTER]
5) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Shocker vs Black Warrior, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

2009 came early! I suspect this is the beginning of a long series between the ex-Air Force and the Tuareg. Between Cometa and Pegasso making the card and Ohara being back on a proper CMLL show for the first time in a long while (the Leyenda de Plata tournament), I think people are already headed off for vacation.

CMLL (FRI) 12/19 Arena Mexico
1) Ángel Azteca Jr. & Angel de Oro vs Calígula & Méssala
2) India Sioux, Marcela, Princesa Blanca vs Amapola, Hiroka, Medussa
3) Flash vs Pólvora [lightning]
4) Mascara Dorada, Máximo, Valiente vs Felino, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
5) La Máscara, Toscano, Volador Jr. vs Ephesto, Terrible, Texano Jr.
6) Dos Caras Jr., Mark Corleone, Shocker vs Black Warrior, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

That’s a random but fun sounding lightning match. They haven’t done one of those for a while – last one I see is June 30, 2006 between Mascara Purpura & Stuka. A Lightning match is just a 10 minute time limit one fall match, usually between young guys.

Nice that they’re bundling Los Hijo del Averno as a rudo trio, but shouldn’t the guy who won Leyenda de Azul get the main event?

The opener is an ongoing feud. Maybe “ongoing” is too strong, “continuing” without making progress works better.

Mistico is in Tijuana on this night.

While you’re waiting for this week’s shows, here’s last week’s Ras de Lona:

Perro Aguayo Jr., rest of Los Perros leaving CMLL

Okay, calm down, that may be an overstatement. Here’s the story from La Oreja (where this surely aired tonight), google translated

El Hijo del Perro Aguayo announced that it ceased to belong to the World Wrestling (CMLL), along with his group of fighters known as Los Perros del Mal because they founded their own company luchística.

Los Perros del Mal in this way become a new proposal for the fans and surely in coming days will give its cast of gladiators

El Hijo del Perro Aguayo is not the only fighter who has taken such decisions, another example is the Son of Santo who founded his own company functions he has done so in England.

There’s been talk about Perro and company going independent and setting up their own booking office, but I understood it as they’d still work CMLL TV shows but book their own spot show dates. This article makes it sound like they’re going 100% on their own. Perhaps the article is incorrect and just over states the separation? We’ll surely find out soon. Santo being referenced here is a good comparison – unless there’s a TV deal attached to this, it’s a really questionable long term move for the Perros to go their own way. Perro Jr is a regular on this gossip, which is enough to get them attention but I don’t know if you can build a regular circuit around gossip shows.

Perros leaving would open up a lot of spots on the rudo side. They haven’t been big time players since Perro Jr. went out four months ago, but the Villanos probably are going to get milked harder, guys like Misterioso would expect to be a little higher up, and guys like Tuareg might get more regular bookings. Of course, moving up the card doesn’t mean as much if business is down, and Perro Jr. not coming back to boost it is going to hurt (and hurt or not, Mistico’s going to have even more pressure on him.)

OTOH, CMLL, if you have an extra Mistico hiding around somewhere, it might be time to use him. Personally, I’m just hoping the Mini Perros are not part of this deal.

All kidding aside, it’ll be intersting to see who goes where; you’d figure Garza would end up with the group leaving, but what of guys like Averno & Mephisto who were bolted on to the group? Which freelance guys – Halloween? – try to join in? And, if this is a full split, how fast does IWRG try to book them for a Friday night show? I’m sure the phone is ringing.

09/29: Guadalajara, Monterrey, Coliseo

It sounds like wrestlers going on strike to protest TV Azteca airing WWE SmackDown on Friday may be more than idle chatter and have some substance to it. Something to watch this week, with the premire this Friday.

CMLL (TUE) 09/23 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [cmll]
1) Milenio b Relampago Azul
2) Virgo b Ebola
3) Samurai b Rafaga

CMLL

CMLL (SUN) 09/28 Arena Coliseo [CMLL, Ovaciones]
1) Artillero & Súper Comando b Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II
2) Goddess, Princesa Blanca, Sahori b La Nazi, Medussa, Mima Shimoda
3) Máscara Púrpura, Tony Rivera, Valiente b Loco Max, Sangre Azteca, Satánico
4) Felino, Heavy Metal, Negro Casas b Damián 666, Mephisto, Mr. Águila
5) Dos Caras Jr., Héctor Garza, Marco Corelone DQ Atlantis, Lizmark Jr., Rey Bucanero

Lizmark fouled Dos yet again in the main event.

In the tercera, Sangre Azteca played the part of Halcon Negro this week and surely regretted it. That picture over there is a still of a Valiente dive gone horribly wrong, and both he and Sangre were strechered out. The CMLL.com report says it was only a scare, but that’s pretty scary. This also overshadowed the angle they were running – Tony Rivera vs Loco Max is indeed on for a hair match next week.

This morning, there was a note confirming this on CMLL.com, noting Tony’s past long winning streak in these matches and Loco Max’s bad performance. It’s disappeared since about 11AM CST.

Ovaciones writes about the Halcon Negro situation. They’re under the belief Halcon Negro is actually supposed to show up each and every week and keeps no-showing.

CMLL (SUN) 09/28 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [MT]
4) Terrible & Texano Jr. b Máscara Año 2000 & Universo 2000 [OCCIDENTE TAG]
5) Gallo & Hijo del Fantasma b Malefico & Máscara Mágica [hair]
6) Blue Panther DQ Villano V

Panther had Villano in the armbar and V5 must’ve not been countering it this time because Terrible & Texano had to run in for the DQ. Gallo & Hijo de Fantasma did not lose their masks. Phew. It’s not like I was expecting the Dinamitias to win the tag team championships of the West (because, why?), but it’s still is surprising to see them lose any time they don’t have to at this point.

Atlantis has a new offical site at Atlantis.

(Mr. Reyes) Looks like the Oficials won the IWRG Trios title last night.

Al Filo del Ring has a Shocker interview from Guerreros del Ring (the magazine) – not a lot new: considers himself on leave with CMLL and desperately wants to go back, doesn’t like the AAA using the Guapo name but has no issues with the guys themselves – and one from Scorpio at his benefit show, where he hoped to return to the ring by Novemeber.

Aguila Solitaria would like to return to Arena Mexico for a few retirement matches.

Notimex has a story about Bolivia’s Cholitas.

CMLL (MON) 09/29 Arena Puebla
1) Astruriano, Centella de Oro, Tiger Rojo vs Fuerza Chicana, Mr. Rafaga, Toro Bill
2) Black Tiger, Blue Center, Legionario vs Fire, Pequeño Violencia, Pierrothito
3) Alex Koslov, Máximo, Mictlán vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Satánico
4) Dos Caras Jr., Héctor Garza, Marco Corelone vs Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero
5) Blue Panther vs Villano V

Pierrothito brings the lightweight title back to Puebla! Also another Panther/V5 rematch and the trios champs teaming up in a non title match (though Ovaciones thinks we should expect a title match next week.)

Second on the card on Wednesday in
Nuevo Laredo this week: Spiderman vs Batman.
