***79th Anniversary Show***
1) Dalis la Caribeña, Goya Kong, Marcela b Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Tiffany
Tecnicas took 1/2. Marcela pinned Tiffany with Dalis helping Marcela with leverage. Tiffany challenged Marcela to a trios rematch next week, and Marcela accepted.
2) Ephesto, Mephisto, Niebla Roja b Delta, Stuka Jr., Valiente
Rudos took 1/3. In the third, Stuka pinned Ephesto, but the rudos beat Stuka, and then Mephisto defeated Delta for the win.
3) Ángel de Oro, La Sombra, Titán b Namajague, Shigeo Okumura, Taichi
Tecnicos took 1/3, Sombra beating Taichi in the third fall.
4) Puma King b Rey Cometa [mask]
Seconds were Tiger & Espiritu Negro. Rey Cometa dived off the stage on Puma with a tornillo before the bell. Puma still pulled out the fall with a leg hold in 1:16. Cometa went into the barricade again in the second fall, but came back to win with the 450 splash in 4:26. Rey Cometa is Mario Alberto González, 29 years old, 13 years a wrestler, from Quereraro. Both gave each other credit for their effort after the match, and Puma thanked the very supportive crowd.

5) Dragón Rojo Jr., Negro Casas, Último Guerrero b Atlantis, Mistico, Prince Devitt
Rudos took 1/3, Dragon Rojo beatting Devitt each time and setting up a title match between the two.
6) Rush b Terrible [hair]
Seconds were Toro Blanco for Rush and Rey Bucanero and Comandante for Terrible. Terrible won the first and Rush took the second in usual quick falls. Both bled were said to have bleed; Rush did so from the mouth, and Terrible’s wound is not visible in the pictures (maybe a slight bit on his forehead.) Much less than Volador/Niebla. Rush finally won with the martillo negro. Fans sided with Terrible even after the match, upsetting Rush. Mistico, out to celebrate, settled down his brother, but the entire family was pelted with drinks until they left. Terrible was also sent to the back to calm down the crowd, but returned to get his hair cut (doing some himself) and thanked the fans. In the locker room, Rush said he didn’t care about the boos and they just made him stronger, while Terrible said he didn’t lose tonight, but just won more fans and it’s not over with Rush.

Don’t have an attendance number, just some guesses. I guessed 12,000 looking at the pictures around middle of the show. People who were there are saying 80%, which would put it at 14,000. There was said to be some sections that did not fill up (the blue section on the floor.) It was a not a sell out, and CMLL thought they could get one out of this show.

The actual poster for Heroes Inmortlaes is online. Somehow, I typed in the date wrong; it should be October 7th (Sunday). The Copa Pena looks like a twelve man match, not teams, but the exact format is not stated. “Tommy Boy” is a mishearing of “Atomic Boy”, which makes for a really good mixed match. No mention of Sexi Star as a special referee, but no mention of referees at all so we’ll see.

AAA tapes it’s first show in a nearly a mouth this Sunday. It’ll be nice to have something to talk about.

The Gladiatores say Latin Lover is in the hospital, recovering from an appendix removal surgery.

AAA uploaded the Copa Rio Nilo Konnan vs Perro Aguayo vs Cien Caras match that aired before TripleMania. Hopefully this will mean they’ll continue uploading material.

Estrellas del Ring mentions someone is selling a near complete digital collection of Lucha Libre magazine (1050 issues) on a USB stick. I really should get that, though no price mentioned always makes me concerned.

Cronicas Y Leyendas looks back at Mil Mascaras defending his IWA titles versus Gran Markus in 1977 (which will definitely be a better match the Hijo del Solitario one) and Coloso Colosetti.

Lucha Libre in Japan

09/15 NOAH: Ricky Marvin b Bobby Fish, Super Crazy TLD Eddie Edwards.

09/15 NJPW: Low Ki & Averno [O] b Mascara Dorada [X] & Bushi

Averno & Mascara Dorada tag matches from 09/07 and 09/08 are online. Sure seems like whatever has stopped Japanese videos from turning up has started to get fixed, great news for those fans.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 09/21/2012 Arena Mexico
1) Hombre Bala Jr. & Super Halcon Jr. vs Bobby Zavala & Disturbio
2) Triton vs Raziel [lightning]
3) Dalis la Caribeña, Goya Kong, Marcela vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit
4) Hijo del Fantasma, Rey Cometa, Valiente vs Niebla Roja, Puma King, Virus
5) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Prince Devitt vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Mr. Águila, Taichi
6) Máximo, Rush, Shocker vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Último Guerrero

Tiffany was pinned and made the challenge in the women’s match, but is oddly not in the rematch. Overall, they decided to just go with build up trios instead of the matches they seemed to be setting up last night. Maybe they expect a drop off.

Lightning match looks real good, as does match 4.

Terrible still champion, CMLL Puebla on US TV, IWRG live?

CMLL (MON) 09/10/2012 Arena Puebla [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Fuerza Chicana, Policeman, Siki Ozama Jr. b Ares, Centauro de Fuego, Saurón
Centauro de Fuego’s first match since April.

3) Amapola, La Seductora, Princesa Sugheit b Lady Afrodita, Luna Mágica, Marcela
Amapola led her team to win, challenged Marcela for a title match for next week.
4) Virus b Fuego [lightning]
5) Mistico, Titán, Valiente b Ephesto, Euforia, Mephisto
A much more successful match for Mistico this time.
6) Terrible b Diamante Azul [CMLL HEAVY]
Seconds were Comandante and Mistico. Terrible kept his title.

I want to make fun of Amapola & Marcela having another title match. I can’t. After all the bad women’s match of late, I want that to be the only women’s match they do.

As you might have noticed from the earlier video post (or can check out in full on LuchaWorld), CMLL has started airing Arena Puebla in the US. It turned up this Sunday on the Estrellas TV network. The network is the same deal as LATV, broadcasting on local (usually digital) channels, but it’s different in that every network seems to be on it’s own schedule. Here outside Chicago, it aired on Sunday from 4pm local to 6pm, and it sounded like that was generally the time elsewhere. Last week, it was listed on the programming grid as “Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre” (same as the LATV show), but the channel grid was off by an hour. It is not on the grid from my local channel right now, but the announcers were hyping this Terrible vs Diamante Azul as airing on the show this weekend.

(As with other stations, there’s no mention of CMLL on EstrellaTV’s website, and no programming grid.)

As far as I know, Puebla will continue to air on TVC Deportes with a different production crew, as has happened the last few times Puebla has popped up on 52MX. Two different production crews covering Arena Puebla, what a thing. This would bring a total of 9.5 hours of televised CMLL each week, and another 2.5 hours on the web, though some matches are being shown twice. One of CMLL’s main revenue sources seems to be “selling TV rights to

If that’s not enough TV for you, IWRG says their functions will be broadcast live, though they give absolutely no details beyond that. In the past, the Gladiadores have done live radio broadcasts of IWRG shows, but those have been rare this year.

Fuego en el Ring has In Memoriam’s full name as “José Manuel Campos Ornelas”. They also mention Barbaro beat Smaker in a pairs match on Sunday’s card (via foul), then challenged him for a title rematch. It doesn’t seem in the cards yet.

Today’s CMLL changes are only in the segunda, where the original segunda of Camaleon, Molotov, Sensei vs Bobby Zavala, Disturbio, and Inquisidor is now Bengala, Molotov, Tigre Balnco vs Artillero, Inquisidor, and Super Comando. That’s four subs, though they did make the change on the website and on the preview. This show is almost all guys who will not be working Friday’s Anniversary show.

AAA announced they’ll be taping on 09/28 in Arena Naucalpan. That’s a Friday night, which usually means no Thursday night IWRG (and TVC Deportes will be using one of the Sunday tapings.) Crowd have been great whenever AAA tapings in Arena Naucalpan. Lineup will probably be out early next week.

LuchaWorld has Prince Devitt vs Volador Jr. and Rush in an eight man tag from 07/29, just before the G1.

Lucha Libre in Japan

NJPW announced Mascara Dorada, Averno and Felino would be heading to KAIENTA DOJO (which I confused with Michinoku last night) from 09/20-09/23. Dorada & Avenro will be off the NJPW shows for that stretch, and have a singles match on one of the show. They’ll also have a singles match on NJPW’s show at US army base, but it doesn’t look like they’ll be doing a title match.

NJPW has an ongoing relationship with KAIENTAI DOJO, much like the one they have with CMLL, so it’s interesting to see the three groups working together and it’d be nice if it led to more. There are plenty of guys in CMLL who would do well in Japan in but are too far down the depth chart to get a serious run in NJPW any time soon and need a smaller promotion to have a chance. Triton, for example, has a slim chance of making a FantasticMania show and no more than, but would be work great as the lucha guy in KAIENTAI DOJO.

Lineup

CMLL (SUN) 09/16/2012 Arena Mexico
1) Oro Jr. & Robin vs Akuma & Guerrero Negro Jr.
2) Fuego, Pegasso, Triton vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
3) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Super Porky vs Black Warrior, Misterioso Jr., Olímpico
4) Sagrado vs Tiger [lightning]
5) Marco Corleone, Máximo, Prince Devitt vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Rey Escorpión, Taichi
6) Atlantis & Diamante Azul vs Felino & Mr. Niebla [CMLL TAG]
Atlantis & Diamante Azul are the champs

Third straight Sunday Arena Mexico show. They haven’t drawn especially well, but that never stops CMLL. If you’re looking for a title match they could run next week, the semimain could set up a rematch for the trios titles or (gasp) Rojo & Escorpion challenging Devitt for his title.

Seems like a slightly more full show than usual – that segunda would be a tercera most weeks, and nearly a semimain on some recent Tuesdays. Sagrado/Tiger feels like it should be lower, but it lets them run the three TV matches together.

This is the sixth lightning match for Sagrado in the last two months, out of twenty one total. That’s 28%, or 35% if you take out the women’s matches. No one else has appeared more than twice. Sagrado, human dividing line, has beat Niebla Roja & Polvora, and lost to Mephisto, Rey Escorpion, Euforia. That’s neatly a group of guys who are midcarders and guys who are near the top. Which group is Tiger in?

CMLL (SUN) 09/16/2012 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) El Yaki vs Gran Kenut
2) El Divino & Sky Kid vs Èvola & Thunder Boy
3) Black Metal & Virgo vs Espectrum & Rey Trueno
4) Esfinge, Gallo, Smaker vs Exterminador, In Memoriam, Maléfico
5) Hijo del Fantasma & La Sombra vs Mr. Águila & Vangelis

Vangelis in a main event! (This is not a strong rudo side.)

Note none of Rey Cometa, Puma King, Rush and Terrible are on these four cards. Maybe they’ll hold them off until next Friday?

DTU (SUN) 09/23/2012 Unidad Deportiva Fortin de las Flores, Veracruz
1) Hades, Halcon Infenral, Infierno Negro vs Angel Negro, Sombra Negra, Vengador

Terrible picks up another win, Bombero Infernal & AK-47 lose their hair, Rush on Terrible, Terrible on Rush

CMLL (TUE) 09/04/2012 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Évola & Sádico b El Divino & Virgo
2) Sky Kid b Disturbio
Sky Kid pulled the upset.
3) Amapola & Princesa Blanca b Lady Afrodita & Marcela
moved to the tercera. Afrodita made her GDL debut as a fill in for Dark Angel (who was never actually going to be here.)
4) Gallo, Smaker, Stuka Jr. DQ Artillero, Maléfico, Súper Comando
moved to the semifinal. Malefico pulled Stuka’s mask and fouled him, setting up a lightning match for next week.
5) Terrible b Shocker
Terrible took 2/3.

IWRG (THU) 09/06/2012 Arena Naucalpan [The Gladiatores]
1) Epidemia b Johnny Rivera
Epidemia won wrestling like a tecnico.
2) Carta Brava, Chicano, Eita b La Cobra, Relampago, Saruman
Saruman’s return. Cobra feuded with Chicano, submitted him for the win, and challenged for a title match.
3) Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Trauma II b Heddi Karaoui, Oficial 911, Oficial Fierro
Rudos jumped the tecnicos, and took 1/3 to win. 911 pulled Trauma II’s mask and cradled him for the win.
4) Oficial AK47 & Súper Nova b Veneno, Eterno, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, Trauma I, Temerario Infernal, Hijo de Pirata Morgan [seeding battle royal]
AK47 was left semiconscious after a Pirata Morgan piledriver, but still survived to the final two.
5) Trauma I b Veneno [ruleta de la muerte, quarterfinal]
Total tecnico battle, which meant Trauma I submitted Veneno after some nearmisses.
6) Temerario Infernal b Eterno [ruleta de la muerte, quarterfinal]
Eterno won with a Super Styles Clash.
7) Hijo de Máscara Año 2000 b Hijo de Pirata Morgan [ruleta de la muerte, quarterfinal]
Mascara illegally used a chain to Pirata’s head to win, then celebrated big.
8) Súper Nova DQ Oficial AK47 [ruleta de la muerte, quarterfinal]
Nova toped AK-47 before he got to the ring, toped him again when he got up, and went for a third tope but AK-47 moved out of the way and Super Nova hit the barrier. Referee Rubinsky yelled at AK-47, and AK-47 threw him in the crowd. That got the DQ (in under a minute.) Nova’s was taken by strecher to the locker room with a shoulder injury.
9) Veneno b Temerario Infernal [ruleta de la muerte, semifinal]
Veneno won with karate chop and top rope senton.
10) Hijo de Pirata Morgan DQ Oficial AK47 [ruleta de la muerte, semifinal]
911 was with AK-47 here, and getting involved whenever possible. Rubinsky was in the middle of ejected 911 from the ring when AK47 dropped Pirata with a martinete. Ref must’ve saw it, because that was AK-47’s second disqualification.
11) Temerario Infernal DRAW Oficial AK47 [hair, ruleta de la muerte, final]
Bombero (w/Alan Extreme) rushed AK47 to try and get the quick win. Both seconds got involved, and both wrestlers bled. At one point, Infernal tried to tope AK47, but missed and hit referee Reyes Rosas (outside the ring.) Both wrestlers got visual pinfalls while both seconds tried to get the ref back into the ring. AK-47 tried to suplex Infernal, Infernal turned into a double pin small package, and the ref returned to make the three count. Both wrestlers begged for an additional fall, but were denied and shaved.

The main event of tonight’s Arena Mexico is the Bufete del Amor defending the CMLL World Trios Championship against the Guerreros. Dragon Rojo, Rey Escorpion and Ultimo Guerrero aren’t just battling Maximo, Rush and Marco Corleone, but also their recent group internal problems. They should be resolved one way or another. Ultimo Guerrero sulked off last week, angry about his partners actions, but now says he likes their rebellious attitude and they’re more united than ever. Maximo points out his team already “humiliated” the Guerreros in Puebla and will win again. Rush and friends should keep their titles to give Rush one more win before next week’s big match.

The semimain is a Mexico versus Japan cibernetico. As we know, Taichi is not exactly getting along with his partners, but they did have a strategy session to figure out La Mascara, Negro Casas, Black Warrior and Valiente. Possible topics discussed in the strategy session:

  • beware of the casita at all times!
  • if Valiente starts running, you need to start running
  • don’t let Mascara put you in a casadora, or sit on your head, or stand over you, or…
  • everyone should do frog splashes
  • Negro Casas is the best ever

The Mexicans biggest decision might come down to their second. Zacarias hangs out with Negro. Monito is often seen in the company of Valiente and La Mascara. Mije’s even been seen when Black Warrior when he teams up with the Invasors! Would having all three mascots in the corner cause massive chaos, or give the Mexico team the greatest braintrust in the history of man?

CMLL’s preview of the card mentions Estrellita will take Dark Angel’s place on the card. Metalico makes his return from a broken leg in the second match, replacing Angel Azteca Jr. (who hasn’t been in an CMLL ring since June.) Neither of these changes are listed on CMLL.com, but on the info they’ve sent other sites.

In the second part of an interview with Kaiser Sports, Rush repeatedly talks about his match with Terrible being something more than just a match, but a kind of fight the fans have not seen in many years, since the days of Toreo de Cuatro Caminos, “no technical wrestling, a stout serious fight” like the Villanos, the Brazos, or the Dinamitas. Rush is looking forward to being the boos. He’s proud to be the only luchador booed by everyone (tecnico and rudo fans) and feels powered by the negative reaction of the crowd.

The references Rush makes are to brawls, but especially wild, out of control, and bloody brawls. He never says blood, but the interviewer does and it’s clearly implied in Rush’s quotes. It’s the right style of match for Terrible and Rush, and CMLL has relented on it’s no blood rules in recent big matches, but it’s also the exact kind of match which ended Dr. Wagner Jr. & LA Park’s time in CMLL four years ago, and the same kind of match which led to Mr. Niebla & Volador Junior’s current suspensions. Mr. Niebla has confirmed the suspension, saying rules are meant to be broken but you still have to pay the consequences. Niebla also calls the match, which will be locked in CMLL’s video vault forever, “one of the best singles matches I’ve had in the last five years” and  “an essential type of battle that has been missed.” Sounds like Rush may agree.

In an interview on MedioTiempo, Terrible gives Rush some credit, saying he wins a lot and could’ve been part of TRT if he had the correct attitude. Instead, Terrible believes Rush is a rookie who needs to wait his time and know his place. Terrible can not believe Rush thinks he’s the better man: Terrible has been wrestling 10 years, Rush only 2,Terrible has put has hair on the line 12 times and won ever time, Rush has only done it twice. Terrible says the fans boo him because they know he deserves the attention, but they boo Rush because they know he’s not a good wrestler. Taking Rush’s hair will be like taking candy from a baby. Terrible’s real goal is to take his rudo-ness to 100% and send Rush to the hospital.

Rob has his five top spots of the week. And Tercera Caida has their top 10 moments of the week. I put their whole episode in a playlist for easy viewing; make sure you check out the soccer game.

Lucha Libre in Japan

09/06 NOAH: 4) Super Crazy [O] & Naomichi Marufuji b Atsushi Aoki [X] & Go Shiozaki

09/07 NJPW: 2) Low Ki, Rocky Romero, Alex Koslov & Averno [O] beat Ryusuke Taguchi, Alex Shelley, BUSHI & Mascara Dorada [X] – Averno beat Macara Dorada via middle rope Devil’s Wings. NJPW still hasn’t announced all the lineups for this tour, but a title match between Dorada and Averno seems likely (and likely to be good.)

Lineups

IWRG (SUN) 09/09/2012 Arena Naucalpan
1) Serpiente de Oro vs Matrix Jr.
2) Golden Magic & Saruman vs Carta Brava Jr. & Imposible
3) Alan Extreme, Black Terry, Temerario Infernal vs Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
4) Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Relampago vs Chicano, Heddi Karaoui, Loco Max
5) Hijo de LA Park, Trauma I, Trauma II vs El Hijo del Medico Asesino, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, Hijo de Pirata Morgan

Main event continues the new Park vs Wagner issue, buries the Mascara vs Pirata issue (or maybe not?)

Loco Max’s first match here since the 2007 Rey del Ring. It’s taken a while for him to start turning up on the usual indy shows.

CMLL (TUE) 09/11/2012 Arena Mexico
1) Niño de Acero & Pequeño Halcón vs Pequeño Nitro & Pequeño Universo 2000
2) Camaleón, Molotov, Sensei vs Bobby Zavala, Disturbio, Inquisidor
3) Gallo, Hombre Bala Jr., Super Halcon Jr. vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Skándalo
4) Fuego vs Hijo del Signo [lighnting]
5) Hijo del Fantasma, Shocker, Triton vs Rey Bucanero, Tiger, Vangelis
6) Delta, Diamante Azul, La Máscara vs Felino, Rey Escorpión, Volador Jr.

The only person to work both this show and the Anniversary show is Delta. He goes from the main event on Tuesday to the second match on Sunday. Interesting to see Shocker and Bucanero in the semimain behind some of the guys in the main.

Tercera is Gallo‘s debut in Arena Mexico.

Tanahashi beats Rush (via foul), Rey Cometa’s second, Taichi in Mexico

CMLL (MON) 09/03/2012 Arena Puebla [Porra Fresa]
1) Asturiano, Blue Center, Dinámikoo b Fuerza Chicana, Policeman, Siki Ozama Jr.
2) Molotov, Sensei, Stigma b Artillero, Hooligan, Súper Comando
Tecnicos took 1/3
3) Amapola, La Comandante, Zeuxis b Dalis la Caribeña, Luna Mágica, Marcela
Rudas took 2/3.
4) Pólvora b Stuka Jr. [lightning]
Polvora survived Stuka’s torpedo plancha and went on to win.
5) Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Titán b Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Tiger
TRT jumped the tecnicos, tied Atlantis and Titan in the ropes, and beat on Diamante Azul until they were DQed. Rudos settled down and won the second, but Diamante Azul surprised Terrible with a german suplex to win the third. Azul challenged Terrible to a title match, and Terrible accepted.
6) Hiroshi Tanahashi b Rush
Rush entered first, but fought Tanahashi on the ramp and beat him early with an armbar. Tanahashi fought back and won the second fall with his frog splash. Rush got a lot of near falls in the third (with the fans getting on referee Terror Chino for counting too slow), but Tanahashi snuck in a foul to get the win.

Terrible beat Tanahashi and Tanahashi beat Rush, so poor Rush is doomed come next Friday. There’s no way at all he could possibly win.

CMLL (TUE) 09/04/2012 Arena Queretaro [Haciendo La Lucha]
4) Diamante Azul, Fuego Latino, Hijo del Fantasma b Perro Del Ring, Rebelde Punk, Rey Bucanero
Fuego Latino replaced an injuried Ursus.
5) Atlantis, La Máscara, Máximo DQ Drabek I, Drabek II, Principe
Tecnicos took 2/3, rudos fouled Atlantis for the DQ.

Rey Cometa told folks in Queretaro that he’d like Espiritu Negro, his brother, to be his second for the Anniversary show. That’s going to ruin some fantasy booking plans.

Taichi arrived in Mexico yesterday. In an interview with Kaiser Sports, Taichi said he’s targeting Maximo (revenge for the hair loss), Angel de Oro (for beating him in the Super Juniors match) and would like a middleweight or light heavyweight championship match. Taichi says he’s changed over the last two years, he’s different from everyone else, and CMLL will be happy because he’s going to sell out every building he’s in.

Another article, for NJPW’s site, revealed Taichi does not want to work with his Japanese partners. Taichi is part of the (Minoru) Suzuki Army in his home promotion, enemies of Tanahashi, and doesn’t really want to team up with Tanahashi in Mexico. This is probably a story just to keep the Japan feud going despite the team up, and also a possible hint on Friday’s outcome.

AAA (Konnan) held a training seminar and tryout in Winnipeg a couple weeks ago. The selling point of the seminar was the best trainee getting to come to Mexico for AAA. AJ Sanchez, who won the spot, talked about the tryout and his career to Slam. He’ll be in Mexico from November 15-30, which should be just before Guerra de Titanes. The article mentions he’ll work two shows, though the article does not mention if they’ll be TV tapings (or who’s paying for that flight.) One of the other people who tried out and didn’t win was Mentallo, who wrestled in CMLL in 2008 and briefly was part of Lucha Libre USA.

Rob has Dinamic Black taking an ill advised flat back bump.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.
