Triplemania PPV, Stuka, Valiente, Vangelis, Fuego advance, Chicas Vuelta Vuelta

TripleMania will be on conventional PPV. AAA confirmed this last night and posted the pricing today. If you order before the show, it’s $18, plus $5 more for HD, plus $2 more if you call to order instead of using the internet. If you wait until Sunday, there’s another $5 surcharge in there.  Whatever way you do it, it’s cheaper to buy the iPPV – but you get on TV, which is nice and I’d pay a little extra not to have to deal with cords and multiple screens.  No word about that movie theater plan.

AAA’s been doing a lot of press all week to talk about TripleMania. The annual pilgrimage, taking place the same day as Antonio Pena’s birthday, is happening right now.

CMLL closed the En Busca de un Idolo polling much earlier this week, updated the scoreboard, then took the scoreboard down and just posted the final totals. They might have done this because the polling scores made no sense. This is what they appeared to be (based on what they had for the last 3 weeks.)

40 Stuka
39 Valiente
37 Vangelis
22 Fuego
5 Sangre Azteca
4 Tiger
4 Hijo del Fantasma
0 Misterioso

The numbers on the website didn’t make any sense as they were listed. It looked like they gave Fuego 42 points for the 40 point poll (despite giving the actual winning 40 to Stuka for the third straight week.) What appears to actually have happened is Fuego got 22 points for votes, and they threw in the 20 points for winning his match over Misterioso in the same column. (The last update still had him listed as 1 win instead of 2.)

The final totals were 333 Valiente
280 Vangelis
278 Stuka Jr.
208 Fuego – should’ve been 206 but there was a typo never fixed
—————————–
202 Hijo del Fantasma
164 Tiger
140 Sangre Azteca
113 Misterioso Jr.

Walking thru the math fails is truly exciting, but the bigger point here is even the people running this system can’t keep track of these numbers – this point system is wildly unsuccessful.  Please make this easy to follow next year, if there is a next year.

For what it’s worth, if you take out the fan poll points, the order would’ve been Valiente, Hijo del Fantasma, Vangelis, Tiger, Stuka, Fuego, Sangre Azteca and Misterioso. The 3/4/5 group are all grouped in within 4 points.

Valiente, Vangelis, Stuka and Fuego advance, three tecnicos and one rudo like last year. Valiente and Stuka are the favorites for making the final two. The intermission trios match this Friday will be Negro Casas, Valiente & Stuka vs Vangelis, Virus and Fuego. Schedule, based on what they announced at the start, looks like

06/21: Valiente vs Vangelis, Stuka vs Fuego
06/28: Valiente vs Fuego, Vangelis vs Stuka
07/05: Valiente vs Stuka, Vangelis vs Fuego

That’ll probably change.

You can now rent the CMLL edecanes – for your corporate or private event. The 16 women currently working as ring girls for CMLL are going to be working as a group named “Chicas Vuelta, Vuelta”, they’ll be booked out thru CMLL’s office the same as the luchadors, they’ll be available to be booked on lucha libre shows as well as other events and they can work as dancers and singers as well. There’s been mentions in the past of some of the CMLL edecans having to choose between working for the promotion or working elsewhere due to conflicts, and this would seem to give them more work if they stay with CMLL. Having all of them at the Father’s Day show this Sunday is the kick off to the initiative.

Lucha Libre in Japan

Super Crazy gets his GHC Junior Heavyweight title shot against Taiji Ishimori on July 7.

Super Crazy teams with Ricky Marvin NOAH’s July GHC Junior Tag Team tournament. Pesdailla teams with someone who translates to “Dual Force” as the “Ultraviolent Lucha Libre.” team Maybe Santo Jr. – I guess you can get from Tempestad to Dual Force. The South American team of Kaiser & Gaston Mateo are back as well.

Lineup

CMLL (TUE) 06/18/2013 Arena Mexico
1) Metatrón & Robin vs Camorra & Ramstein
2) Pegasso, Starman, Súper Halcón Jr. vs Hooligan, Nitro, Skándalo
3) Hombre Bala Jr. vs Shigeo Okumura [lightning]
4) Bushiroad, Hijo del Fantasma, Sagrado vs Felino, Pólvora, Puma
5) Máscara Dorada vs Averno [NWA WELTER]
Mascara Dorada is champion. First defense.
6) Mistico, Titán, Valiente vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero

I guess if your usual high flying Guadalajara tecnico partner is busy, Titan is a good fill-in.

Dorada vs Averno should be great.

CMLL (TUE) 06/18/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Black Metal, Leo, Magnus vs Disturbio, Magnum, Sádico
2) Marcela & Silueta vs Amapola & Princesa Sugheit
3) Gallo, Guerrero Maya Jr., Stuka Jr., Super Porky vs Kráneo, Maléfico, Sangre Azteca, Vangellys
4) Bam Bam vs Mercurio [hair]
5) La Máscara, La Sombra, Shocker vs Mr. Águila, Rey Bucanero, Volador Jr.

I really have no idea how that hair match is going to go.

Kraneo vs Guerrero Maya! An actual good CMLL women’s tag match! Wish this was still airing.

10/21 AAA Fusion Results (Arena Lopez Mateos)

AAA Fusion (SUN) 10/21/2012 Arena Lopez Mateos [AAABlack Terry Jr. (flickr)]
1) Astro de Plata (IWRG) & Freelance b Dr. Cerebro & Mike Segura
2) La Hechicera, Mari Apache, Sexy Star b La Braza, Nygma, Polvo de Estrellas
Hechicera splash for the win.
3) Devil Rocker, Machine Rocker, Soul Rocker b Aerostar, Extreme Tiger, Súper Fly
Super Fly suffered a neck strain on a dive. Machine Rocker pinned Aerostar on a rolling German suplex.
4) Ricky Marvin & Super Crazy b Daga & Halloween [GHC JUNIOR]
Marvin & Crazy retained their tag titles, Marvin pinning Daga with a sit down piledriver. Halloween suffered three broken ribs in the match.
5) Chessman, Silver King, Último Gladiador b El Mesías, Fenix, Vampiro
Maniacos (with Trolli) laid out Vampiro before the match, then got the win.

Air Date: 10/24 and 10/31, or 10/31 and 11/07

AAA recap doesn’t add too many more details (and doesn’t mention Halloween’s injury.) Not totally sure who pinned who in the main event.

Attendance does not look as bad in some pictures as it did in the early ones, but it’s not a sellout and AAA running in a building of this size (2000) should be one. This was the sixth taping in Mexico City or Mexico State since TripleMania (that show, the Expo, Arena Naucalpan, Ecatepec for regular TV, Sala and this show for Fusion) in about 7 weeks, not to mention other shows in DF (like Wagner and family in Arena Azteca Budokan the same day.) It’s also the 7th show in this arena in the  same time. AAA has pointed out their increased ratings, but they’re not so high they can’t suffer from overexposure.

Guadalajara, Rojo & Escorpion done with the Guerreros, Marvin & Crazy

CMLL (SUN) 10/07/2012 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Cancha, El Occidental (4), El Occidental (5), Informador]
1) El Yaki b Demonio Rojo
2) Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno b Halcón de Plata & Sky Kid
3) Eros, Esfinge, Exterminador b Espectrum, In Memoriam, Leo [Relevos Increíbles]
4) Gallo & Smaker b El Bárbaro & Maléfico
Tecnicos took 1/3.
5) Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada b Dragón Rojo Jr., Mephisto, Misterioso Jr.
Tecnicos took 2/3, Fantasma landing his lariat on Dragon Rojo.

There probably was something coming out of the tercera – besides the unusual sides, it was Eros’ first match since April – but no one mentions anything.

Dragon Rojo & Rey Escorpion told Kaiser Sports that they’re done with Ultimo Guerrero and Los Guerreros. Ultimo was holding them back, taking credit for their work, and recruiting members without consulting them. They both pointed to Dragon Rojo being double champion as proof they don’t need Ultimo Guerrero. They don’t have a name for their new group and are open to suggestions. Right now, they’d like a tag match against Guerrero & Euforia and, after they destroy them, they’re moving right on to the tag team titles.

Dark Angel says she’s working the Tuesday show in Guadalajara. Hooray!

LuchaMonterrey has footage of the Llaves y Candados explaining the Rayo de Jalisco Jr. no-show. Very stand up of them to come to the ring and explain it in front of the fans.

Llaves y Candados announced their next big show will be 10/21, with Perro Aguyao Jr.  & Teddy Hart vs La Parka & Jack Evans as the main event and more AAA wrestlers in the undercard. Match gets five stars if Parka tries to break dance.

AAA is teasing what must be a site redesign for Thursday with a countdown clock on their webpage. The last page seemed like it was a site only intended to be used for TripleMania but forced into use full time when the previous site disappeared. I can not make fun of anyone for redesigning their site when this one looks as it does.

Crazy Boy is teasing the DTU Anniversary shows as his return to the ring. They’ve been setting up that direction for a little bit.

I am told there is a possible exciting video of Euforia playing football americano at this link, but we in the US are blocked from seeing the 2 minute clip. Surely United States copyright law and world territory rights would break down if I was able to see this footage.

10/07 WNC: Hijo del Pantera wrestled in the main event, but the promotion hasn’t posted results. Let’s assume he won!

10/07 NOAH: Ricky Marvin & Super Crazy [O] b Marshall Von Erich & Ross Von Erich [X]

10/08 NOAH: Super Crazy [O] & Ricky Marvin b Taiji Ishimori & Atsushi Kotoge [X] [GHC JR TAG] – 1st defense
Crazy is listed as winning with the “Sorpresa”. It definitely is a Sorpresa to see him coming back to Mexico with one half of the tag belts. If Ricky really is coming to Mexico later this year, perhaps they’ll get a chance to defend it on home soil before returning to NOAH.

NJPW first iPPV outside of Japan took place early this morning. It sounds like there were some technical difficulties processing orders, but they aired the show free until it was all sorted and most people were happy with the quality of the feed (and very happy with the quality of matches.) If NJPW is happy with how the business side turned out, it’s possible this is the start of regular broadcasts. It’d be neat novelty to see CMLL guys in Japan in miscellaneous matches (the matches they’re usually in!), The hope here is this worked out well enough that NJPW doesn’t just do it for next year’s big show on 01/04 in the Tokyo Dome, but for the NJPW/CMLL FantasticMania 2013 shows which will take place later that month. Those are something I’d wake up at 4AM and spend $25 on.

Metal Blanco keeps his title, Diamante broken, Juvi/Super Crazy

CMLL (SUN) 06/26/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) El Divino & Hierro b Ángel del Mal & In Memoriam
2) Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno b Apocalipsis & Mortiz
Mortiz was stretchered out after a Rey Trueno powerbomb.
3) Ángel Azteca, Guerrero Maya Jr., Starman b Arkángel de la Muerte, Ráfaga, Skándalo
Guerrero Maya was the big hero for his team.
4) Metal Blanco b Tiger Kid [OCCIDENTE WELTER]
Metal Blanco took falls 1/3 to keep the title.
5) Naito, Terrible, Texano b Hijo del Fantasma, Rush, Toscano
Naito got along with his partners and beat Fantasma.

Tiger is convinced he won the match, is the uncrowned champion, and challenged Metal Blanco to a mask match. There’s no explanation of why Tiger thinks these things, but he wants a rematch in Arena Mexico and then another one here.

CMLL (MON) 06/27/2011 Arena Puebla [Cinco Radio]
3) Astral, Bam Bam, Eléctrico b Demus 3:16, Pequeño Nitro, Pierrothito
4) Ángel de Oro, Delta, Angel de Plata? Diamante b Felino, Pólvora, Rey Escorpion
Felino replaced Misterioso. Not sure what the deal is with Diamante’s replacement – Angel de Oro is listed twice.
5) La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush b Averno, Mephisto, Mr. Niebla
Mascara got Averno with a campana. Another mask vs hair challenge.

Other News

Diamante suffered a fracture of his 3 of his toes and dislocation of another on Friday night, which will leave him out of action for five to six weeks. Toe injuries are pretty rare.

Juvi explains he’s facing Super Crazy because they have unresolved issues over the Mexicools not becoming the biggest faction in all of wrestling. It’s all Super Crazy’s fault, Juvi explains. (Juvi also takes credit for opening doors for Sin Cara & Alberto del Rio being in WWE. I’ve missed Juvi.) Meanwhile, Perros del Mal are talking about taking over Super X.

Arkangel’s 7/17 anniversary show will include an Arkangel tournament (the cibernetico?) and an exhibition by his students. On his blog, Mr. Cacao thanks CMLL for allowing him to return for the trios main event with Arkangel.

CMLL hype for the Dr. X vs Fuego feud mentions Fuego was supposed to be thinking about turning rudo (to continue the team with Polvora.) Hadn’t considered that. Anyway, he’s a tecnico because Dr. X keeps messing with him.

Black Terry Jr. posted the Oficial 911 vs Multifacetico title match: fall 1, fall 2, fall 3

Lineups

indy (SUN) 07/03/2011 Arena Coliseo Monterrey
1) Dangerous & Galactar vs Androide & Rey Sagitario
2) Hijo del Ninja, Humberto Garza Jr., Ninja Jr. vs Neurosis, Sky, the Beast
3) Golden Boy, Rey Demonio, Simbolo vs Angel Dorado Jr., Dralion, Máscara Púrpura

Start of a new era show, so I could be bothered to suss out the alignments and post the lineup. I hope this works for them, but I kind of wonder if the problem with this arena is there is no long term continuity of luchadors. There’s vast turnover around ever three weeks, it’s got to be hard to form a connection being gone for three month stretches.

Super X (FRI) 07/15/2011 Arena Azteca Budokan
1) Eterno vs Daga
2) Marcela vs Rossy Moreno [GPCW WOMEN, tournament]
3) Histeria II, Oriental, Zumbido vs ?, Súper Nova, Zumbi
4) Villano IV & Villano V vs Negro Navarro & Solar I
5) Juventud Guerrera vs Super Crazy [NWE CRUISER]

Not sure how the women’s tournament works or if there are any  more matches than that. The GPCW SUPER-X Monster Championship, I’m sure you recall, was part of the initial tournament for the AAA World Heavyweight Championship. Perros del Mal actually showing up would be sort of interesting with the CMLL-allied talent on the show (but then, Super Crazy is already there.)

Averno, Nakamura makes an impact (on Panther’s skull), Super Crazy gets a haircut,

A few stray thoughts on Averno

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThlwcvQFqko

No news, you may want to skip the editorializing. Entertain yourself with this video (thanks Rob!)

– I don’t know about SuperLuchas, but I did not talk to Averno to get this story. I did not need to, I had multiple people knocking on the door to let me know, and those people had people urgently passing along that news. Within hours of the mask match announcement, this story was getting around to everyone except the few people in the bubble at the top of the CMLL heichary. It’s unfair and illogical to expect us out here to keep it a secret when few inside there were. Decent media (and whatever the heck this blog is) isn’t responsible for cleaning up their messes.

If SuperLuchas had decided not to publish the story and I had decided not to publish the story, the story was still getting out. It had been getting out (ask Kid Zombie!), it was just going to be a matter of time until someone in front of a loud enough microphone let it out.

Mistico played everything very close to the vest, and the story didn’t get out until after he left. Averno clearly told one too many people about what he was up to, and it took off like wildfire. If you want to be angry at people for letting out secrets, start with the first guy who did.

– Been watching Twitter mentions of Averno all day. I can’t be absolutely certain of this, but I believe 99.999999% of the comments talked about how Averno and WWE. No one mentioned La Mascara, no one seemed slightly interested in how that affects the Jucio Final match. It’s a sure thing that people on Twitter are much more likely to be interested in WWE and there will be a lot of CMLL fans who just find out about all of this on Monday when they stop by a newsstand. They’re smart enough to figure out what it means for Jucio Final even if it’s never explicity said, but I do think we overestimate the impact of results like this getting out. Fans go for the show as much if not more as the result.

– A lot of people read the story today, which was great. A lot of people walked away not really understanding the story, which is not as great.

– the match people seemed to use most often to show Mistico working with Averno? The NJPW match from January. We’re a very tiny part of the wrestling internet, people can’t even find lucha matches.

– I would’ve have loved to talk to someone in CMLL to about this before printing to get their opinion. If, say, they had opened lines of communication by just telling me WHAT IS GOING TO BE ON YOUR TV SHOW, this might have been accomplished. Instead, they don’t get a voice and I’m surprised with Volador/Garza vs Maximo/Rush matches. There are no winners in this arrangement. If you ever decide you don’t hate me, my email is always over on the right.

5) El Alebrije, Psicosis, Shinsuke NakamuraBlue Panther, Strong Man, Super Porky
1/3 for the rudos – finally, the Invasors have found the missing piece! Nakamura KOed Panther with the Boma-Ye (knee to the head.) Lights went out at the end of the second fall.

Alan smartly pointed this out in chat: this is not near the level of card CMLL would has  put out against a Perros del Mal show. Could be the Perros aren’t considered something to worry about now, could be worrying about other stuff.

3) el Ángel, Golden Magic, Heaven, SkaydeEk Balam, Guerrero Negro, Maldito Jr., Samot
Heaven & Guerrero Negro were added to this match. Not sure if it’s the MTY Guerrero Negro. Golden Magic beat the large Ek Balam with a plancha. Balam was strechered out.
4) Peligro & PesadillaBlack Fire & Low Rider
Peligro replaced Ragde and pinned Black Fire.
5) Bestia 666, Halloween, X-FlyTony Rivera, Turbo, Zumbi
Perro destroyed the tecnicos. Zumbi went thru a table for the finish.
6) Super CrazyPsycho Clown Monster ClownDamián 666Murder Clownel Hijo del Perro Aguayo [cage, hair]
Brawl started out of the cage and included weapons. Damian took a stapler to the forehead. First out was Perro Jr., who was actually booed and chanted against. He was followed by Murder, Damian, and Monster. Super Crazy tried to put Psycho thru a table, Psycho stopped him and spinebusted him thru the table and left. Super Crazy was shaved in the ring.

Crowd looks strong. Perros first show was in December 2008, I’m not really sure how the math works out to make this a third anniversary. It has been a very long year for Perro Aguayo Jr., it may feel like it should be December.

Forjando Un Idolo – final

I’m about three matches behind at the moment, but this was a really fun and interesting tournament. We make fun of CMLL for all the tournaments they run, and we will probably make fun of the more in the near future, but I have no problem with them if they’re like this. A ‘top star’ version of this tournament would be fascinating; I don’t think they’d do it, but it won’t stop me from hoping they might.

As good as the tournament was, the effort was better. It was great to be able to watch (almost!) every match in this tournament, and I hope it was successful enough for CMLL (or anyone else) to try more projects like this in the future. Thanks especially to Mr. Alexis for his hard work.

CMLL in Japan

NJPW 05/29:
BOSJ: TAKA Michinoku [4] b Mascara Dorada [2] (9:45)
Dorada’s next match is  June 2nd, vs DDT’s Kota Ibushi. Had this wrong in the chat earlier: It’s also a TV taping, so likely not on YouTube.

REINA 05/28:
Tomoka Nakagawa [O] & Silueta b A*YU*MI & Seuxis [X] (14:33)
A*YU*MI is Ayumi’s masked persona. Silueta challenged her for the X-LAW Women’s Championship.

Video of those CMLL matches on these shows seems to be going up on this YouTube channel.

Other news

On Saturday’s IWL show, Los Porros kept the IWL trios titles, despite the (unadvertised) appearance of US indy wrestler Mad Man Pondo. He’ll be back for a match with them in June. Mike Segura won a Royal Rumble with the help of a mystery man. Black Terry Jr. posted a lot of photos.

Rob has highlights from 08/94 AAA and 10/15/94 AAA shows, a Mr. Aguila video, plus classic vignettes from the time AAA visited an Old West Town (?!?!?): Chucky kicks Cuije’s mask, Barrio Boys suffer a tragic loss, and the Chivas Rayadas are born.

Mexico preview, Samurai del Sol

No IWRG show after all. There are holidays that annually slip my mind, this is one of them.

Tonight’s Arena Mexico show is headlined by a rematch of last week’s main event, Guerreros vs Goto, Volador, Garza. The focus has been on Ultimo Guerrero vs Hirooki Goto, and we’d expect something to be set for that next week. In Forjando un Idolo, Rey Cometa and Escorpion battle to avoid elimination, and Palacio Negro and Angel de Oro wrestle for control of their group.

Samurai del Sol updates his health status: he never lost consciousness, X-Rays came out okay, but he’s going to be in a neck brace for a month to be on the safe side. He hopes to be back in DTU for their lucha libre expo show. There’s video of the injury on YouTube (that account has a lot of clips from the show), and I think he just flew a lot farther than they were expecting.

Puma King has a plan to advance yet: he needs to beat Hijo del Signo and get people to vote for him to get a bonus point. He’d also need Diamante to beat Hombre Bala, but that would put him in second. He needs some friends to vote for him first, though.
