09/01 (2): GDL, Tijuana, 10 man cage match, CMLL Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 08/26 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Thunder Boy b Milenio
2) Metatron b Güero Loco
3) Pequeño Damian 666 b Bam Bam
4) Atenea & Lady Apache DQ Amapola & Hiroka
5) Damián 666 b Leon Blanco
6) Terrible & Texano Jr. b Rayman & Sagrado [OCCIDENTE TAG]
7) Atlantis & Último Guerrero b Marco Corelone & Sombra

Sombra replaced Mistico, and the rudos snuck in fouls for the win. Perros won clean, tripping up Sagrado on a springboard attempt to get to the finish. Mini Damian not only beat Bam Bam with a Black Hammer, but snuck in the fifth match to foul Leon Blanco and help the larger version win. Amapola got DQed for excessive violence on Lady Apache, which surely hurt their teamwork on Friday.

indy (FRI) 08/29 Auditorio de Tijuana [superluchas]
3) Blue Demon Jr. & El Hijo Del Santo b LA Park & Super Parka

Parkas were out of control in this match, getting DQ for ripping up the tecnicso masks and excessive violence, to the point where the comission warned them they’d stop the match if they didn’t settle down. (Park said something along the lines of not coming to Tijuana to play with dolls.) Tecnicos took in straight falls when Super Parka attacked the ref, allowing Santo to sneak in a foul and take the win. There’s tease of a Santo/Super Parka hair/mask match. Santo took Parka’s mask, back in 2003.

CANCION (SUN) 08/31 Centro de Espectaculos La Cancion de Tutltitlan [superluchas]
1) Anticristo, Excalibur, Toxico b Cerebro Negro, Fantasma de la Ópera, Men
2) Hermano Black Shadow I & Hermano Black Shadow II b Guerrero Siam & Tailandes
3) Super Calo L Intocable and El Fantasma and el Hijo Del Anibal and Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. and Solar I and Dr. Wagner Jr. and Zumbido and Lizmark Jr. and Toscano [cage, hair]

As everyone suspected, Super Calo lost his hair. Intocable winning it is no shocker either. They ran an angle where Zumbido hit both guys with a chair being the second to last guy out, so I guess there’s a feud here somewhere.

Sololuchas has full results of the AULL show.

CMLL (FRI) 09/05 Arena Mexico
1) Angel de Oro, Flash, Stuka Jr. vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Skandalo
2) Máximo, Metalik, Valiente vs Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca, Virus
3) La Máscara, Mictlán, Sagrado vs Damián 666, Dragon Rojo Jr., Mr. Águila
4) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Marco Corelone vs Atlantis, Lizmark Jr., Último Guerrero
5) Dos Caras Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr., Volador Jr. vs Heavy Metal, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

don’t they need to announce Wagner/Niebla for the masks ASAP if they’re going to do it? They keep hinting in that direction.

Even more Mictlan/Dragon Rojo. Even more UG/Blue Panther. Panther/UG would obviously mean more in a mask match, but I don’t think UG/V5/Panther would mean significantly more since no one’s going to believe Ultimo Guerero is losing his mask to one of those two.

CMLL (SUN) 09/07 Arena Coliseo
1) Astro Boy & Sombra de Plata vs Cholo & Soberano
2) Fabián el Gitano, Máscara Púrpura, Tony Rivera vs Halcon Negro, Loco Max, Nitro
3) Amapola vs Lady Apache [CMLL WOMEN]
4) Grey Shadow, La Máscara, Sagrado vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Rey Bucanero, Sangre Azteca
5) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Volador Jr. vs Atlantis, Black Warrior, Último Guerrero

Lot ‘o Guerreros.

For some reason, I thought Lady Apache already won this title. That certainly makes the finish on Friday make more sense to me. The question now is, is Apache getting the hair and the belt or was this a 50/50 split?

Maybe someone thought “you know what, we really need another guy for this Tuareg group to really put them over the top (in the segundas). Anyone have Halcon Negro’s number?” Let’s go with that.

Of course, this real news is Cholo appearing. I don’t like his shot at getting his first win. Soberano appears to have shortening his name.

Juvi was interviews on the uh, an audio show who’s name isn’t specifically mentioned on the F4 recap nor is a link given, oops and says he’d like to get in CMLL. I’d like to be President. (No, I wouldn’t.)

They’re writing as many stories in Spain after the CMLL Spain tour as they were during it.

Odd convergence: an Incredibly Strange Wrestling memoir on a Wired.com blog. Everything with ISW is an odd convergence.

Luchaworld has Robert on ’05 IWRG, ACM and AAA TV

3 hours of AAA TV is like watching a weekly house show… it’s so fantastic. I can’t even begin to imagine how amazing CMLL would be with a weekly 3 hour time slot covering a match from Arena Coliseo and the entire Arena Mexico show.

Things change!

07/27 AAA TV Results (Cd. Madero)

Previous: 07/06 (Puebla), 07/15 (TripleMania), 07/16 (Leon)

1) Cinthia Moreno, Octagoncito, Oriental, Pimpinela Escarlata b Alfa, Fabi Apache, Gran Apache, Mini Histeria
2) Extreme Tiger b Laredo Kid, Aero Star, Super Fly, Escoria, Hombre Sin Miedo, Rey Cometa, Pegasso [Torneo Alas de Oro]
3) Alan Stone, Scorpio Jr., Super Calo, Zumbido b Alberije, Brazo de Plata, El Elegido, Zorro
4) Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Juventud Guerrera b Head Hunter I, Scoria, Shryu Dragon, X-Pac
5) Kenzo Suzuki, Mesias, Ozz b Charly Manson, Chessman, Cibernetico [cage]

Air Date (assuming everything airs)
Mex: 08/12
US: 09/01

The recap doesn’t exactly list results, but you can put it together based on the pictures.

Legion won the main event cage match with some outside help from X-Pac. Chessman took a big move off a ladder thru a table. Hell Brothers had a valet, but I’m kinda expecting it to be a one time deal.

No Ron Killings in the semimain. I’m not sure that Head Hunter I and Scoria were both supposed to be in the match replacing him, but it effectively worked out that way. Extreme Tiger ran into help his side, and it was very much your usual Mexican Powers match. Shryu Dragon is another indy hardcore wrestler – he fits the Sabu tease without actually costing Sabu money. It looks like Crazy Boy got hurt by the end of this match, and Joe Lider really should be as well. After multiple tables being broken and Extreme Tiger coming off a balcony with a dive, the finish was X-Pac trying to Tombstone Juvy, and Extreme Tiger knocking Juvy on top with a dropkick. Makes you wonder what the point of everything else was.

Super Calo appears to still be wrestling under that name, but as a member of the Guapos. This match was the usual between these sides, and I think Calo picked up the win with a guillotine legdrop (and some help from Alan.) Zorro’s been eating a lot of pins for a guy who seemed to be their new top star.

Tons of dives in the Alas de Oro tournament; that should be interesting to see. Extreme Tiger beat Super Fly to take it.

Oriental won the opener by giving Alfa a German suplex, a reverse of the TripleMania finish and an indication that this will be ongoing. Figure a title match at one of the next two tapings.

6) Alberije, El Elegido, Super Porky b Alan Stone, Scorpio Jr., Zumbido
7) Head Hunter I, Rikishi, Ron Killings, Sabu b La Parka Jr., Latin Lover, the Animal, Zorro
8) Kenzo Suzuki L Cibernetico, Chessman, Charly Manson, Mesias, X-Pac [cage, hair]

Air Date
Mex: 07/22 – this was a 5 hour show live, so I still think there’s a possibility they split it.
US: 08/11

The following is cribbing heavily from Medio Tempo‘s report, because they’ve got the only detailed account I’ve seen. I’ve bolded a couple of changes I’ve noticed from early reports. You can read prior TripleMania coverage (live, and day after) elsewhere on this webpage.

Charly Manson exited the cage first, followed by X-Pac. X-Pac and Konnan teamed up to lay out Charly on the outside, and set up a whole bunch of tables. Mesias started to escape, Chessman went after him, and that’s when Chessman took the huge bump off the cage to the tables. This left Kenzo and Cibernetico inside. Mesias tried to help by blowing fire at Cibernetico, but Kenzo got it instead, and that lead to the pin.

Konnan got in a cheap shot on Zorro which lead to the Rikishi pin in the semimain. It sounds like Zorro being stretchered out was storyline (selling the Bonzai Drop) while Parka being stretchered out might or might not have been (landed on his bad shoulder while taking a bump for a Sabu move.)

Sangre Chicana and Octagon did work as seconds in the Guerrera v Guerrera battle. Tirantes was the ref, so you can figure how this went early. Octagon did indeed get tied to the ropes to prevent him from helping, and the comeback started with Pepe Casas coming out to cut him free. Somehow in the battle, Sangre Chicana was locked in ambulance to prevent him from interfering, and Juvi pinned Fuerza with Pepe Casas counting. Fuerza offered a handshake post match, but Juvi refused and walked off with Octagon. Juvi should totally decide to be Octagon Jr. now.

In the notLadder match, Extreme Tiger (second) set up Scoria (second) on a table on the floor and went to the top rope to put him thru, but Ozz shoved Extreme Tiger off, and Tiger hit the floor. The table remained unbroken, so Cuervo set up Lider on the table and did hit his dive thru the table, but Lider and Cuervo were hurt in the process. Crazy Boy overcame took out Escoira and Ozz, winning with a (wait for it) chair assisted flying move to Mexican Powers win the tag titles.

Box Y Lucha?/unmasked Super Calo

The Relevos Incredible matchup ended up being Gran Apache & Laredo Kid vs Super Fly & Super Calo, so it was change of plans. Apache & Calo opted to work it like they were tag partners early on, beating down the Fuerza Aerea duo. Somewhere in here, Laredo Kid missed a dive on Calo, but was all right (relatively.) Like recent AAA tag matches, this was one fall to a finish (not elimination style), so when Apache beat Super Fly, it was over.

The Super Fly vs Super Calo match was held after the ladder match and the Guerreras match. Super Calo was revealed to be Rafael Garcia of DF, 15 year wrestler. They did a bit with Alan Stone consoling him to set up the new alliance.

Alebrije & Cuije beat Scorpio Jr. & Guaptio with planchas to win that match.

Alfa beat Oriental with a Dragon Suplex to win the opener. Oriental was KOed in the process.

Lita performed after the show. Ricky Marvin was announced as coming in September.

05/26 AAA TV Taping Results (Minatitlan, Veracruz)

Previous: 05/06, 05/12, 05/20

Air Date
Mex: 06/03
US: 06/23

AAA TV (SAT) 05/26 Centro de Convenciones, Minatitlan, Veracruz [Payable XXX @ box y lucha]
1) Payaso Carrona, Payaso Miedo, Payaso Terror b Canibal, Nemesis AAA, Nygma
2) Fabi Apache, La Diabolica, Rossy Moreno b Cinthia Moreno, Estrellita, Sexy Star
3) Laredo Kid & Super Fly DQ Gran Apache & Super Calo
4) Antifaz del Norte, Fuerza Guerrera, Histeria, Psicosis II b Alberije, Charly Manson, El Elegido, Juventud Guerrera
5) Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz b Crazy Boy, Extreme Tiger, Joe Lider
6) Cuervo, El Mesias, Kenzo Suzuki, Ozz, Scoria b Chessman, Cibernetico, Zorro b Chessman, Cibernetico, Zorro

Something’s up with Abismo, because he missed this taping as well. The recap says “the Sect” replaced him in the match, so maybe that should more or different people – I’ll fix it when AAA throws up the results on their site. I’m sure everyone ran in, and Charly got in the last shot to help his team.

Somehow, even though the announced mystery partner was on the Sect’s side, Extreme Tiger ended up being a mystery partner with the Mexican Powers. He’s the newest member of the group – it was pretty obvious he was either going to be teaming with them or fighting against them, so they keep doing their style of matches and absolutely nothing else.

On the last taping, Gran Apache got busted open against the Air Force. He and Calo destroyed Laredo and Super Fly here, losing the match only because of excessive violence.

Mr. Niebla also seems a bit MIA; Psicosis II filled in for him in the fourth match. Estrellita might have gotten hurt on a Fabi Apache suplex.

05/18: Parka Jr. still out, GdI one night team up, Maximo wins tournament

(make sure you check the headline story below, if you haven’t been here this morning.)

Guess who ALSO is still out hurt? La Parka Junior! This is what I get for reading newspapers.

AAA LG (WED) 05/16 Palenque de la Feria, Celaya [El Sol del Bajio]
1) Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz b Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Juventud Guerrera
2) Estrellita, Rey Cometa, Super Fly b Angel Mortal, Polvo de Esterllas, Rossy Moreno
3) Octagón, Super Calo, Zorro b Antifaz del Norte, Kenzo Suzuki, Muerte Cibernetica

The article does not bring up the vow that Parka would indeed wrestle on these shows. Parka did sign autographs, and ran in during the main event to help the tecnicos. Calo replaced him in the match. Rey Cometa filled in for Pimpinela, so I guess Cometa isn’t hurt. Or less hurt.

Ovaciones reports IWRG and Dragon Gate have signed an talent exhcange agreement. No details. Perhaps if IWRG’s website was up…anyway, Pentagon Black is already working in both places, so I’m not sure what this exactly means. Maybe Turbo will be an IWRG regular? Maybe Veneno will go to Japan (and will he be allowed back in Mexico if he does?) I dunno.

CMLL (THU) 05/17 Arena Isabel de Cuerbavaca [Dark Atlantis @ box y lucha]
1) Bestia Metalia & Epidema b Aspid & Cabllero de Fuego
2) Cholo & Vampiro Metalico DQ Antaris & Robin
3) Eclipse & Olimpico b Alex Koslov & Super Brazo
4) Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy, Ultimo Guerrero b Blue Demon Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr., Lizmark Jr. [ri]

One time GdI teamup in a relevos incredible match. Rey teased making this a permanent turn. Bad turnout for the show, though – rain was some part responsible.

CMLL (TUE) 05/15 Arena Queretaro [Knotty @ el martinete]
1) Eragon b Luminoso
2) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II b Escandalo & Startron
3) Corsario & Espiritu Negro b Principe Valiente Jr. & Toro
4) Maximo b Astro Boy, Flash, Leono, Super Nova, Stuka Jr. [Trofeo Francisco Flores]
5) Blue Demon Jr. & La Mascara b Damian 666 & Mr. Aguila

Super pictures at the link, as usual. Flash replaced a hurt Valiente. I don’t dislike Maximo as much as some of you dislike Maximo and he’s clearly the biggest star in that match, but….he’s quite the odd man out in that crew. By coincidence, ESTO has a interview with Maximo. His goals include getting revenge on Texano Jr., winning the CMLL LH title, and beating Ultimo Guerrero’s mask. It’s good to dream.

CMLL (TUE) 05/29 Arena Queretaro
1) Dark Angel & Marcela vs Amapola & Princesa Sujei
2) Corsario vs Toro [hair]
3) Perro Aguayo Jr. & Terrible vs Dos Caras Jr. & Marco Corelone

Well, that’s the tentative lineup anyway.

(El Sol de Toluca)There was an AAA show advertised for Toluca on Wednesday. I had a lineup for it (though I can’t recall from where – I want to say it was listed on AAA’s site, though it’s not up there now), but apparently the local Box Y Lucha commission didn’t know, and the show didn’t take place. People did buy tickets, but there’s no promoter to get a refund from, and the commission isn’t going to help because they didn’t approve the show.

Do fans commonly know which shows have been okayed by the local commissions? I would find that surprising; this seems more like the commission distancing themselves from the problem.

Yesterday, we had a story with a person complaining about injured wrestlers not being taking care of by promoters in Monclova. Today, in the same paper, the promoter and the injured wrestlers themselves angrily responded. The promoter’s been paying the wrestler’s downside while they’re out. This really should’ve been one article and not two; I don’t know why the promoter had to track down the article writer here.

Jam! has an article about the Vampiro documentary. Read to the end for the story about Vampiro’s girlfriend at the time.

El Heraldo De Chipas has an interview with Sexi Star. The interviewer’s first question is asking what the name means, but it gets a bit more useful from there. Sexi Star says she was in boxing pre-AAA, but her mother preferred she wrestled.

In an (subscriber only) interview with Figure Four Daily, Mike Quackenbush said, in his conversations with the CMLL offices, Mistico costs $3,000 to $3,500 depending on the day, and that’s before flights or additional fees. It’d probably be significantly more for a weekend day in the US, since CMLL would want compensation for those other shows Mistico wouldn’t be making it too, Quackenbush noted.

I’ll preview the Arena Mexico show a bit later.

05/14: Toryumon, IWRG cage of death, scattered results and lineups

TORYUMON GYM (SUN) 05/13 Arena Mexico [ovaciones]
1) Bryan Lee & Toshiya Matsuzaki b Arkangel de la Muerte & Daisuke Hanaoka
2) Hiroka & Mima Shimoda DRAW India Sioux & Marcela
3) Amigo Suzuki & Hijo de Fantasma b Dr. Karonte Sr. & Negro Navarro and Gino Gabino & Joe Potter

Title match went 27 minutes. Corelone replaced Mistico. Video highlights are here, via Black Terry Jr.

(Strong Style Spirit No lucha guys in this year’s NJPW Super J tournament. I guess it’s better than getting my hopes crushed again. Hirooki Goto is also not scheduled, so he’ll be around for a while longer.

IWRG EXPO (SAT) 05/05 Centro Banamex [Alfonso Lizarraga @ The Gladiatores]
1) Samba & Venom b Avisman & Macho II
2) Coco Blanco, Coco Rojo, Coco Verde b 911, AK 47, Fierro
3) Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Villano III, Villano IV b Fabain el Gitano, Mascara Sagrada, Negro Navarro
4) Halcon Salvaje L Veneno, Pierroth Jr., Enterrador 2000, Villano V, Bestia Salvaje, America Salvaje, El Dandy [cage, mask]

Veneno unmasked Halcon Salvaje, who’s Mateo Alcantara Villafuerte, 14 years a wrestler from Mexico City. Gladiatores has tons more from the Expo, if you’re looking.

AAA IDS Lineup (THU) 05/10 Plaza de Toros La Comiteca de Comitan [El Heraldo De Chipas]
1) Astro Azul, Divino, Spike b Furia Infernal, Tigre Jr. (Guatemala), Trivial
2) Cinthia Moreno & Sexy Star b Fabi Apache & Tiffany
3) Capitan Furia, Mexicano, Terrorista b Alan, Billy Boy, Decnnis
4) Brazo de Plata, Oriental, Super Calo b Alliens, Chris Stone, Espiritu
5) Alebrije, El Elegido, Intocable b Alan Stone, Scorpio Jr., Zumbido

They built up a Terrorista/Super Calo feud thru the show, with Calo wanting to replace Billy in the Barrios Boy match but Terrorista refusing to allow it to go down, and Terrorista showing up to attack Super Calo in the semimain. Tiffany hurt her shoulder in the second fall of her match. This seems to be a continuing interview.

AAA (SUN) 05/13 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC]
1) Ben Hur & Euforia (Monterrey) b Panterita del Ring & Rey Imagen
2) Karis, Orus, Virtual X b Apolo Negro, Ares, the Mummy
3) Cinthia Moreno & Oriental b Monje Negro Jr. & Rossy Moreno
4) Crazy Boy & Psicosis II DQ Aventurero & Laredo Kid
5) Alan Stone, Antifaz, X-Pac b Charly Manson, Chessman, Octagon

CMLL LLA (SAT) 05/12 Arena Monterrey [RFC]
1) Electrico & Mini Fantasy b Mr. Aguilita & Pierrothito
2) Astro Boy, Maximo, Stuka Jr. b Arkangel, Loco Max, Virus
3) Mephisto, Misterioso II, Tarzan Boy b Alex Koslov, Lizmark Jr., Silver King
4) Atlantis, Averno, Ultimo Guerrero b Dr. Wagner Jr., Rey Bucanero, Shocker
5) LA Park, Super Parka, Volador Jr. b Damian 666, Hector Garza, Mr. Aguila

Lots of subs on the show, with Mistico, Perro and Negro Casas all missing, and the announced women’s trios opener instead turning into a minis tag. Attendance was 7,500, lower than the last show.

Marco Corelone is interviewed in the Miamia Herald and comes off very well, like a man who has a plan. (thanks to mike informer)

(Milenio Mexico City) Blue Demon Jr. is opening a store, although he’s hyping it as a cultural gallery, complete with his own artwork.

(Cambio Sonora) A new local group called Liga Municipal de Lucha Libre is starting in Hermosillo.

Notiver has an interview with police officer who’s a part-time wrestler. He says he wrestled as Bronco in Veracruz, and is now under a different mask.

Magazines
Luchas 2000 #367 has Mistico’s injury.
Box Y Lucha #2818 has Ultimo’s Gran Prix win.

Some random lineups for this week:

CMLL (MON) 05/14 Arena Puebla [hugo999]
1) King Jaguar & Super Star vs La Mafia & Mr. Rafaga

4) La Mascara, Rey Bucanero, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Mephisto, Texano Jr.
5) Atlantis, Jushin Liger, Ultimo Guerrero vs Marco Corelone, Negro Casas, Ultimo Dragon

So Liger was staying till Monday but didn’t work Coliseo? (I think, haven’t seen those results.) I guess he just didn’t want to work a double shot on Sunday, which seems fair.

CMLL (TUE) 05/15 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara

2) Aspid & Ricky Estrada vs Camorra & Moro Jr.
3) Angel de Oro, Indomable, Sexy Piscis vs Guerrero Inca, Piloto Negro, Sexy Francis
4) Hijo de Santo & Solar vs Espanto V & Mano Negra

It occurs to me that this is exactly the sort of booking Blue Demon Jr. gets, and that’s the danger of Santo’s standoff.

indy (SAT) 05/19 Deportivo Moctezuma
1) Aguila Oriental vs Golem
2) Ninja de Fuego & Pegaso (indy) vs Comando Mega & Volcan Negro
3) Antaris, Hombra Arana, Kung Fu Jr. vs Kraneo, Rambo Jr., Vampiro Metalico
4) Avisman & Kid Tiger vs Bacteria & Celestial [ri, losers advance, mask, hair]
5) Alex Koslov & Marco Corelone vs Misterioso Jr. & Universo 2000

This might be an IWRG show? It looks like that sort of lineup, but IWRG’s site is still down so I dunno. Bacteria and Avisman are the two unmasked guys in this match, I believe.

IWRG (SUN) 05/20 Arena Naucalpan
1) Antaris & Ave Fenix vs Avisman & Vampiro Metalico

This is a big anniversary show for the building. First show Vampiro’s been in out of Guadalajara since starting back up.
