Angel Night lost his mask, no name. Sky lost his hair.

The big story of the day is the Bushi vs Oficial 911 mask match in IWRG tonight, which may tell you all you need to know about the day.

[poll id=”49″]

This is pretty close to a 50/50 deal. On the surface, it fits the same form of Rudo Home Team vs Evil Foreigners match CMLL is running tomorrow, but IWRG has often had it’s home team lose when it’s not expected (this may be why there are no stars in IWRG, but that’s another post.) People get masks to promote them in CMLL, and they get masks to lose them dramaticlly in IWRG. Plus, while I still figure Bushi will lose his mask before he goes back home, IWRG runs mask and hair matches more frequently than CMLL; he could have a chance to lose it next week for all we know.

In it’s preview of the match, SuperLuchas touches on the Cerebro Terrible’s title change to Poder Mexica, and says esperemos que regrese el convenio entre ambas empresas y que esta lucah pudiera ocurrir. It’s “expected” that CMLL and IWRG will resume their deal? This seems like news, but it’s passed off like I should’ve known this already.

The Gladiatores should have live coverage on their radio channel.

Octagon tells TelevisaDeportes that he’d like to be as big a legend as El Santo. It’s good to have dreams. To accomplish this, Octagon thinks he needs to be in more movies, but they can’t be movies like Santo was in because no one took them seriously. And yet, he’s still famous. Odd. Also, what serious movie is Octagon going to be in?

News of a Guerreros del Atlantida breakup is Atlantis. Maybe he and Ultimo Guerrero should talk, one of these days. Or maybe UG and CMLL should talk about what storylines they want to get out publicly. Atlantis figures he’ll be on top, as a tecnico or a rudo, so isn’t much worried about it.

Cesar has a recap of Tuesday’s Arena Mexico show.

All you need to know about Blue Demon in one quote: he tells Notimex he thinks he’s making progress in the US because he was ranked #6 in Pro Wrestling Illustrated, “higher than some WWE wrestlers.” Not saying people aren’t willing to buy into it. Also, Perro Jr.’s not getting a title shot at the NWA Heavyweight Title because he’s only a middleweight, but he’d take a mask vs hair match. Demon notes he doesn’t actually like his teammates (Groon, Demon) for the Perros Arena Neza anniversary show, but dislikes his opponents more.

LuchandoLibre says Arena Isabel de Cuernavaca has changed ownership and this month is the last month of shows before it’s torn down. This seems to be the second time this news has gone around this year (the first time was months ago), but maybe there was just a delay in changing ownership over. Not sure where/if CMLL will run monthly shows in Cuernavaca.

DJ Spectro reposts a Box Y Lucha article about the continuing Which Coco Rojo is the legal owner of the name? This’ll never be settled.

04/26: AAA TV scheduled, Ticketmaster, Queretaro,

AAA’s announced it’s May TV tapings in Ovaciones.
– 05/06 Oaxaca
– 05/12 Apizaco, Tlaxcala
– 05/20 Morelia
– 05/26 Minatitlan, Veracruz
– 05/30 San Luis Potosi

What’s great is El Sol de San Luis Potosi writes a lucha libre article about every day and quite of the same exact article (I swear there’s been ten weekdays straight of hype for the Mistico show on 05/02), so we’ll know how the month ends well before the middle cards are announced. Ovaciones says AAA is not sure when they’ll run TripleMania yet and may do it in May, which would be a surprise to me.

Ovaciones also says CMLL is talking about starting selling tickers on Ticketmaster again, starting on 05/19.

Yes, 3 beat 4 (and Charly and Pirata worked twice.) El Elegido did help out the Hell Brothers in the main event, and the Hell Brothers repaid him by beating him up. If it was someone other than Elegido, I might be appalled.

Consgrados cheated to win the the semimain. Fuerza and Pirata challenged for a shot at the tag team titles – I guess it’s about time for La Parka and Octagon’s annual defense of those Mexican Titles. Seriously, though, Pirata loses in a tag team match as part of a tag team tournament not 90 minutes before, and is demanding a shot another tag belt? Couldn’t they have had Chicana in the team? (I guess not if Fuerza’s meant to win it.)

Josh Raymond is US midwest indy wrestler Josh Abercrombie – Josh Raymond is the name he uses in MTV’s WSX promotion, and he and Nate Webb were working as their Trailer Park Boys gimmick from that group. (This opens the door to Vampiro/WSX/AAA speculation – though it’s equally likely Banderas or someone else recommended them.) I’m not sure there was an actual finish in that match – Psicosis had Bufalo beat, Head Hunter I and the Dark Family ran in, and chaos broke out. Psicosis ended up laying out Bufalo, and he might be done for the time being.

Gonna have to make a list of everyone who’s ever been in this Foreign Legion at some point. It’s a small army by now.

AAA’s recap notes that Cuervo & Ozz have 12 points, so either they’ve actually been keeping count, or they’ve been looking here. I endorse either options. SADLY, they also say “only the Mexican Powers also have that number” – maybe we’re meant to count the modified Fuerza Aerea team as two different ones? That ain’t happening.

You know, if AAA doesn’t know that Pegasso & Super Fly have 12 points, that probably means they’re still unaware they’ve repeated a match. On the other hand, if it was just a web guy typo, they ought to have Alan & Zumbido win at the next way taping just to force the 4 way tie at 12, and end it there (unbalanced and all), and run a 4 way to decide it. I’d be fine with that.

Next: 03/03, 03/10, and I still don’t have any confirmation on the Rey de Reyes lineup.

Latin Lover got attacked by the Vipers at some point in the show. When Abismo was about to kill Hijo de Tirantes again, Latin ran in and fouled Abismo. Latin wants Abismo’s mask. I can’t believe AAA would have Abismo drop his mask to a part time guy who may leave again, and Latin’s not dropping his hair.

Mexican Powers won with some help from Octagon. Nice to know La Fiera is still alive. I guess we’ll see El Dandy listed again in 2008. Billy/Apache was a bloody battle. Billy was apparently dominating to the point where Fabi ran in to ask him to stop and win the match already. So he did. Apache was stretchered out. Mini Charly Manson actually didn’t work opposite of Mascarita Divina, which may be the first time ever.

Main event was usual escape rules, though no hair was on the line. It turned into an extreme match. Charly Manson and Cibernetico were the first out, which kinda left Chessman screwed. Cuervo and Ozz made it out next, and it came down to Scoria and Chessman on the top of the cage. La Parka Jr. appeared, and knocked Chessman off the cage back into the ring, allowing the Sect to win. (Chessman was strechered out.) Another La Parka Jr. appeared, a fight brought out, and the interfering La Parka Jr’s mask was yanked off to reveal…Nicho. He’s back, part of the Foreign Legion, and looking for revenge for the Hell Brothers injuring Konnan.

Guapos won the semi when Fuerza attacked Octagon and Tirantes allowed it. They’re pushing this feud hard and all the stuff with Tirantes appears to mean they’ve decided on the final finish, but there’s a reason these two have been feuding for 16 years and neither has lost their mask.

Fuerza got over any problems he had fighting his son, as Juvi was left bloody and beaten. Pirata Morgan got the pin on Juvi for the win. No explanation about no Dandy (or Psicosis II, for that matter.)

Diabloica turned on Martha in the opener, which I guess we all could’ve seen coming, if anyone had cared.

This was the Octagon tribute show, for 25 years in wrestling, but he was replaced in the main event by Intocable (and Alan fouled him for the loss.) Why didn’t Octagon wrestle? Before the main event, Octagon was honored and given a plaque by Intocable. Octagon made a speech, and dedicated this anniversary to Antonio Pena. Tirantes arrived, and said there was one more who wanted to honor Octagon – Fuerza Guerrera, who honored him by breaking the plaque over his head.

I dunno about you, but I refuse to take this seriously until they actually announce the mask, instead of this “Fuerza reappears every five months, punks out Octagon, and vanishes” bit. It’s not like the match is going to be any good, but they need to do it already.

Mr. Niebla did indeed debut as the newest Viper (as spoiled a day early in Luchas 2000) and under that name, but was overshadowing by continuing Hijo de Tirantes/Abismo Negro issues. The Hell Brothers made a cameo in the Sect tag team match, busting up Espiritu (so he’ll be MIA for the 3v3 main event next taping.) No sign of a Mexican Powers breakup this week; Juvi got fouled in that match, but still manged to win.
