Multifacetico and Brazos win, Lucha Libre Expo, Misterioso

new champ

IWRG (THU) 06/02/2011 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (flickr), Estrellas del Ring, Mi Lucha Libre (1-3), Mi Lucha Libre (4)]
1) Dinamic Black & Tritón b Dark Devil & Imposible
straight falls.
2) Freelance, Golden Magic, Mike Segura b Alan Extreme, Carta Brava Jr., Comando Negro
Segura beat Comando Negro in the center of the ring, challenged for Comando Negro’s lightweight title.
3) Multifacético b Dr. Cerebro [WWA WELTER]
This is the Welterweight title Hijo del Diablo previous held. Dr. Cerebro dominated the fight, but Multifacetico exploited a mistake to drop him on his head for a win.
4) El Brazo & Hijo del Brazo b Negro Navarro & Trauma I and Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan and Fresero Jr. & Solar I and Hijo del Pantera & Pantera and Máscara Año 2000 & Máscara Año 2000 Jr.
Fresero Jr. filled in for Hijo del Solar. This time, the fathers all started in the ring, and the sons took their place when they were eliminated. Solar pinned Negro Navarro (Trauma I in), Pirata Morgan got Solar (Fresero Jr. in), Brazo was eliminated next (Hijo de Brazo in), Pirata Morgan was next (Hijo de Pirata Morgan) and Mascara Ano Sr. was the last father out. That left all six juniors. M2K Jr. eliminated Fresero, everyone else teamed up to eliminate M2K Jr., Pirata turned on Trauma I and eliminated him, Hijo de Pantera followed. Final was Pirata & Brazo. Both fathers got involved, and Brazo got the pin. Brazos want another tag title match.

Black Terry Jr. has video of the title match: fall 1, fall 2, fall 3 (part 1, part 2)

CMLL in Japan
NJPW 06/03: Mascara Dorada [4] b Ryusuke Taguchi [6] (7:02)
Hooray! Not a win I figured on him getting. Dorada is 2-2, both wins coming over those who walked away with CMLL belts. This one avenges Dorada’s title loss back in January, and Taguchi appeared to offer a rematch for that title after his loss here. He’s in a big tie for fourth now. Next match is tomorrow vs the Great Sasuke; if Dorada can pull off that upset, he’s got a legit chance of making the semifinals.

Other News

This week’s WON says the guy who looked suspiciously like Averno in Sin Cara’s debut vignettes was in fact Averno.

On Twitter Wednesday night, Dorian Roldan was playing guessing games over the mystery Air Force member on Saturday’s taping. He said it’d be a Mexican wrestler from CMLL, but said it wouldn’t be Astro Boy (which would be a change of plans.)

Today’s Arena Mexico show has the first part of the Forjando un Idolo trios, and Shinsuke/Terrible/Texano vs Sombra/Mascara/Strong Man.

Misterioso Jr. says he’s not leaving CMLL, but wouldn’t it be great if he was in the tournament for the NWA Light Heavyweight Tournament? (Uh huh)

The press conference for the (July) Lucha Libre Expo took place yesterday afternoon. Schedule:  Saturday will have the Juniors promotion (Gallo Tapado Jr.), IWRG and CMLL in the main ring, plus IWL and more Juniors in the side ring. Sunday has  DTU, Perros del Mal and AAA, with more appearances by the Juniors and IWL. (No Friday show this year.) There was also a presentation from a Quinta Roo promotion that’s new to me, but no mention of when they’d be appearing. Tickets are 150 peso per day ($13!)

AAA announced their lineup (below), but everyone else just talked about the guys they might have appearing. Perros talked about bringing in (ex) WWE people, Chica Tormenta said DTU would be debuting a women’s title, the Juniors talked about trios and apuesta match. They’re hoping for 25,000 here, and 8,000 for the SLP shows in November. The program lists a the 2010 CMLL Awards as being presented on Saturday, so I’d still have time to run and finish awards before CMLL finally does. CMLL will also be presenting a Mr. Niebla & Zacarias show for kids (!) and the annual fashion show in tribute to Fabian el Gitano.

Dragon Rojo was spotted, alive and with a man purse; TV mentioned he should be back in a couple weeks (so no tag team tournament.)

In hype for Eterno maybe making it to AAA (his goal at the moment), Record does confirm the AAA taping in Naucalpan next Thursday.

If you figured El Hijo del Santo would be mad that WWA crowned a new WWA Welterweight Champion, you are correct. It takes many words for him to get there, not the best paced column.

Lineups

CMLL (MON) 06/06/2011 Arena Puebla
1) Black Tiger & Milenium vs Aguila Guerrera & Sauron
2) Enrique Vera Jr., Lestat, Super Halcon Jr. vs Espiritu Maligno, Inquisidor, Mortiz
3) Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Plata, Pegasso vs Hooligan, Loco Max, Nitro
4) Black Warrior, Metro, Sangre Azteca vs Shigeo Okumura, Vangelis, Yoshihashi
5) Máximo, Rush, Toscano vs Héctor Garza, Shinsuke Nakamura, Volador Jr.

That’s a weak tecnico side, all the way down the line. Maybe not Black Tiger.

I thought I read on a Japanese blog that Angel Azteca Jr. is a mask maker. Has anyone else heard this?

CMLL (TUE) 06/07/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Meteoro vs Relampago Azul
2) Robin & Virgo vs Camorra & Evola
3) Eléctrico vs Demus 3:16
4) Goya Kong, Lluvia, Luna Mágica vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Tiffany
5) Máximo, Rush, Toscano vs Héctor Garza, Terrible, Texano Jr.

Minis match should be fun. Third week in a row for essentially the same women’s match; that’s why Amapola is here and not facing Ayumi in DF. It seems like they’re setting up an Amapola/Lluvia title match, which hints as a finish of Ayumi/Amapola (if it’s happening first.) Another possible hint: Amapola is defending her belt versus Marcela in Guatemala on the 26th.

Toscano can’t be here, because he’s in Tuesday’s title tournament.

AAA (SUN) 07/24/2011 Centro Banamex
1) Mascarita Divina, Mini Charly Manson, Octagoncito vs Mascarita de la Muerte, Mini Chessman, Mini Psicosis
2) Fabi Apache, Pimpinela Escarlata, Sugi San vs Esther Moreno, Polvo de Estrellas, Ronin
3) Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario vs Alan Stone & Chris Stone [hardcore]
4) Drago, El Elegido, Laredo Kid vs Cuervo, Espíritu, Ozz
5) El Mesías, La Parka, Octagón vs Charly Manson, Cibernético, Escoria

That does not look like a taping. Juniors also announced their show, but I couldn’t make out all the names; it generally seems the same show they’ve been running.

Averno responds, Misterioso, Angel de Oro

No sign of Puebla results.

In an interview with Record, Averno denies he’s signed to WWE, says he never tried out with WWE at any point, only allowing that he had some conversations with WWE. He’s critical of those who’ve reported he’s signed with WWE, claiming no one contacted him to get his side and wants the fans to know not to believe these rumors; he’ll prove them wrong by winning at Juicio Final. (There’s a video interview with Averno over on CMLL Gaceta, but it only has to do with his expanding collection of La Mascara masks.)

This is a marked improvement from how CMLL held Mistico’s departure. Last time, they only had a short, seemingly underinformed statement from their press officer, not really strong enough to push back against the tide of the story. Getting Averno out in front of the press is much better crisis management. They’re still going to do the match and I don’t the story is going to keep people away from the show (the lineup not being near as strong or important as TripleMania is a more significant issue.)

The next fire to put out involves Misterioso Jr.; Fuego en el Ring passes along a rumor that Dr. Wagner Jr. has invited Misterioso to join AAA. The article does not mention if Misterioso is interested in actually making the move, just stating that he could. Misterioso is not on any CMLL lineup this week so far, and is not on Juicio Final. Misterioso vs Sangre Azteca have focused more on their rivalry in recent bouts, but CMLL doesn’t seem to have directed it anywhere – it’s not going to be in June, it probably won’t be the Anniversary main event, and there does come a point when one may no longer want to wait for it to happen with no sure promise that it ever will. (They’re willing to wait longer when the day to day payoff is good, but that hasn’t seemed to be the case for some time.)

This week’s SuperLuchas, still on newstands and in app stores!, did mention that among the many people wrestling tryout matches for AAA at their last taping (Astro Boy, Daga, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Drastic Boy) were two mystery luchadors. The author noted they figured out they were CMLL luchadors using other identities, but declined to out their usual identities. I don’t know if either one of them were Misterioso – my hunch is no – but there’s a pattern here. It’s not X/Y/Z promotion taking from CMLL, it’s people in CMLL looking for the exits.

Angel de Oro hopes to keep training with Ultimo Guerrero so he can be a more complete wrestler; the win has him more committed to being a complete wrestler.

This really should’ve gone in the last post, but I’m really not a fan of the Forjando un Idolo concept as it’s now being presented. The tournament was great: people won, people lost, and all the matches mattered and so the concept mattered. The trios matches should be fun, but they’re distilling the concept if they’re just used to promote more trios matches where the results really don’t matter. (They have plenty of those kind of trios matches.) If, say, the trio that does the best in these round robin gets a trios title shot, that’d make it worth it, but that’s something they should get out ahead of time.

Mickie James hypes her TripleMania match in a video. She knows she’s teaming with Sexi Star! She may or may not know who’s she facing.

Black Terry Jr. posted video of Freelance vs Avisman: fall 1, fall 2, fall 3

The Gladiatores has photos from CMLL guys on a shot at Roberto Clemente High School in Chicago this past Saturday. I still have photos and video on my phone, probably should use them at some point. As usual, I could not understand the names of the indy wrestler for most of the day, but the undercard was mostly The Great Malaki (the guy who set his hands on fire at the first DGUSA show in Chicago) and his usual entourage and opponents. Also, randomly, Gringo Loco vs Discovery In A Different Mask, Maybe? Rudos (Atlantis/Averno – Volador was tecnico in his rudo gear) won the three fall main event with a mask pull and a foul.

Rob has highlights of the 09/19/2010 AAA taping.

Tecnicos took the last two falls.

4) Ángel de OroRey Cometa [Forjando un Idolo]
Angel de Oro finishes with 3 wins [9] and Rey Cometa [0] winless. The first place finishers – Oro, Delta, Diamante, Polvora – all end with perfect records. Cometa, Puma King and Angel de Plata all finished with zero points.
5) El Alebrije, Misterioso Jr., OlímpicoDiamante, Metro, Rush
Rudos took the last two falls, then made the expected title challenge for next week. Misterioso challenges Rush for a mask vs hair match. Keep dreaming.
6) Atlantis, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr.Black Warrior, Blue Panther, La Sombra
Rudos took one and three, Atlantis & Volador beating Sombra & Panther.

Saturday’s Arena Lopez Mateos show, to help Rey Escorpion pay for an operation for his child saw Rey Escorpion, Ultimo Guerrero, and Atlantis beat Villano IV, Villano V and Scorpio Jr. Straight fall win for the Guerreros, Rey Escorpion wiping out Scorpio Jr. with a dive while his parnters took care of the Guerreros. Amo La Lucha Libre has video of this match. Black Terry Jr. has video of Navarro & Traumas vs Solar, Chucho el Roto, and Iron Love: fall 1, fall 2, fall 3.

DTU’s Kids Day show included lap dances, men on women violence, and other lunacy. DTU: Keeping It Real.

Forjando un Idolo

I enjoyed both of these. Seems like the Puebla matches aren’t airing. Just to rub it in, Porra Fresa says Delta vs Guerrero Maya Jr. was the best match he’s seen in the tournament.

CMLL in NJPW
05/01:  Davey Richards (O), Rocky Romero, Mascara Dorada b Prince Devitt, Ryusuke Taguchi (X), Jushin Liger
Next show is the 05/03 title match.

LuchaWorld has the last two Ras de Lonas.

SuperLuchas #411 has a spiffy new look. Inside is an interview with Hijo del Santo (in full Hijo del Santo, telling us he could’ve beaten Fishman or Villano III for their masks but he had too much respect for them to challenge them, fishing for someone to pay for a Hijo del Solitario mask match, explaining Super Astros set the stage for Sin Cara & Alberto del Rio)

Odds of that ? being Black Thunder: 99 to 99.999%

SuperLuchas says the next trainee show is 05/14. Scheduled to be a rematch with the Villano GYM, but they did run an angle with Gym Ham Lee last time.

That’s a match to challenge for Gallo’s title. Though I wonder what they’re going to do with Metal Blanco’s title if he’s not going to be around here (and probably isn’t losing to one who’s sticking around.) ACG Drago is not the AAA Drago.

This is (also?) a Rey Escorpion benefit show, though he doesn’t wrestle on this one. Really stacked lineup, should be a fun card.
