06/18: Mexico, Monterrey, Campeche

CMLL (SUN) 06/17 Arena Mexico [superluchas, ovaciones]
1) Mini Damian 666 & Mini Halloween b Bracito de Oro & Tzuki
2) Lady Apache, Marcela, Sahori b La Seductora, Medussa, Rosa Negra
3) La Mascara, Mictlan, Volador Jr. b Euforia, Nosferatu, Satanico
4) Amapola b Diana La Cazadora [hair]
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Heavy Metal, Shocker b Damian 666, Halloween, Terrible
6) Mistico & Negro Casas b Averno & Mephisto [CMLL TAG]

In the main event, Negro Casas used the La Mistica and Mistico won with the casita. Superluchas has it at 27 minutes. Hair match went about 14. Diana’s wants a rematch in Monterrey. Lady Apache & Marcela replaced India Sioux & Dark Angel in the women’s trio.

Ovaciones says around 5,000 attendance, citing rain and Mexico’s soccer team playing a Gold Cup game. Amapola vs Diana was an interesting feud to me, but I didn’t expect it to be a draw any more than Leono/Mogur was a draw. Maybe this is one time blip, but it comes off to me as if you can’t just throw Mistico out there in what everyone knows will be a great match (and by all accounts, it was) and expect to pop a big house, especially when he’s been in main events and big matches plenty in that building lately. If this was a show people were really into, they probably can skip a game versus Costa Rica, but it was a feud with a complete lack of recent activity (and a sub feud only built up on the B-Show, with a build that only makes sense after the fact.)

FWIW, next Mexico Gold Cup game is on Thursday, and the final (likely between US and Mexico – I’m thinking Guadeloupe’s run of a lifetime is about over) is next Sunday.

Add a July 28th taping in Tlaxaca to the upcoming AAA show list. No lineup is announced.

Magazines
Lucha 2000 #373 has Espectro Jr. signing the mask match challenge with Blue Demon Jr. in blood.
Super Luchas #217 has the death of Vince McMahon. (I will resist the urge to mock Berwyn.)
Super Luchas Grafico #23 has Mistico and Dave Meltzer.

Lizmark, Huracan Ramires Jr., La Parkita were in Michoacan, talking about lucha libre as their anti-drug.

CMLL (TUE) 06/19 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Estrella de Jalisco vs Fraile de la Muerte
2) Carlo Roggi vs Rey Trueno
3) Metatron vs Depredador
4) Flash vs Malefico

2) Princesa Blanca & Sahori vs La Nazi & Medusa
3) Sangre Azteca & Silver King vs Alex Koslov & Felino

This is a free show. They’re doing a match between radio show personalities (I’ve skipped it here), so I’m guessing the station is subsudizing the show.

VIP NBLLM (SAT) 06/23 Roots Magic Club [Tiger Marino]
1) Angel de los Ninos, Polaris, Ultrasonic vs Flechador, Halcon Guerrero, Urco
2) Leon Guerrero, Terry 2000, Turbo vs Black Heart, La Furia, La Mosca

06/18: Mexico notes, links

Ovaciones previews today’s Arena Mexico show, with interviews from the hair match participants, Amapola and…Dark Angel. No, no change in the match, Diana couldn’t make the press conference so Dark Angel was talking on her behalf. Amapola of course took this to mean that Diana was scared, and that Dark Angel would be next to lose.

Ovaciones also repeats a statement from CMLL – do not believe a man who claims to be Mistico II, CMLL has no Mistico II. (That’s Sombra.)

CMLL (SUN) 06/17 Arena Mexico
1) Bracito de Oro & Tzuki vs Mini Damian 666 & Mini Halloween
2) Dark Angel, India Sioux, Sahori vs La Seductora, Medussa, Rosa Negra
3) La Mascara, Mictlan, Volador Jr. vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Satanico
4) Dr. Wagner Jr., Heavy Metal, Shocker vs Damian 666, Halloween, Terrible
5) Mistico & Negro Casas vs Averno & Mephisto [CMLL TAG]

I’m thinking Diana and champions retain, only because there’s been no angle leading up to it. I feel less sure about the title match than I do the hair match, even with the weird build in the hair match (which I’ll go over next.)

There’s also an AAA TV taping in Toluca.

06/09: Mexico, Lineups, GdR

CMLL (FRI) 06/08 Arena Mexico [ESTO, ovaciones]
1) Fantasy & Tzuki b Pequeño Violencia & Pierrothito
2) La Sombra, Mascara Purpura, Super Nova b Euforia, Misterioso II, Nosferatu
3) Alex Koslov, Marco Corelone, Rey Bucanero b Damián 666, Halloween, Terrible
4) Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V DQ Atlantis, Olímpico, Sangre Azteca
5) Místico b Mr. Águila [LdP, final]
6) Blue Panther, Dr. Wagner Jr., Shocker b Black Warrior, Tozcano, Último Guerrero

Tecnico sweep, if I’m reading this right (and if the Villanos are meant to be tecnicos, which they may not be.)

Mistico’s a two time winner (and I am WRONG.) Leyenda de Plata reads bad, especially in the Ovaciones version – Mistico won the second fall with a bad ‘rana and there were more problems in the third before La Mistica. Perro showed up after the match to say he’s returning in 3-4 weeks (though he won’t be 100% then either) and he still wants the stips match.

Villanos won in straight falls, winning the first on their own, and getting the second by DQ when Ultimo interfered and the Guerreros yanked the Villanos masks. Villano IV hurt his ankle and the sources disagree on the seriousness of the injury. He’s not booked for next week, which would seem to be a clue.

CMLL (TUE) 06/12 Arena Coliseo
1) Mini Olimpico & Ultimo Dragoncito vs Mini Violencia & Pierrothito
2) Sombra de Plata, Tigre Blanco, Tony Rivera vs Apocalipsis, Hooligan, Ramstein
3) Lady Apache, Luna Magica, Princesa Blanca vs Hiroka, La Nazi, Mima Shimoda
4) Felino, Leono, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Eclipse, Misterioso II
5) Dos Caras Jr., Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero vs Black Warrior, Ultimo Guerrero, Universo 2000

Leono in the semimian? Eh. They’ve managed to work three feuds in the main event, though none seem to be moving.

CMLL (FRI) 06/15 Arena Mexico
1) Bam Bam & Mini Fantasy vs Fire & Mini Mr. Aguila
2) Leono, Mictlan, Valiente vs Goto, Okumura, Virus
3) La Sombra, Mascara Purpura, Maximo vs Ephesto, Olimpico, Sangre Azteca
4) Damian 666, Halloween, Villano V vs Atlantis, Tozcano, Ultimo Guerrero
5) Blue Panther, Mistico, Negro Casas vs Lizmark Jr., Mr. Aguila, Terrible

Lizmark returns to the feud Mistico says he doesn’t care about. Villano V without a III or a IV. Sombra is moving up the cards.

CMLL (SUN) 06/17 Arena Mexico
1) Bracito de Oro & Tzuki vs Mini Damian 666 & Mini Halloween
2) Dark Angel, India Sioux, Sahori vs La Seductora, Medussa, Rosa Negra
3) La Mascara, Mictlan, Volador Jr. vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Satanico
4) Dr. Wagner Jr., Heavy Metal, Shocker vs Damian 666, Halloween, Terrible
5) Mistico & Negro Casas vs Averno & Mephisto [CMLL TAG]

Special Sunday Arena Mexico show. I have no idea what’s going to happen in the main event at this point, but I’m leaning towards a title change – no interaction between Mistico and the Infernales on the lead up. La Seductora is the one women in the Mexican Women’s Cibernetico who never got a trios match, so she does now.

CMLL CAN52 GdR #81
06/03 Coliseo: Dark Angel, Diana La Cazadora, Lady Apache b Amapola, Medusa, Princesa Sujei
06/03 Coliseo: Blue Panther, Marco Corelone, Negro Casas b Atlantis, Olimpico Mephisto, Tarzan Boy

WWA (FRI) 05/25 Auditorio de Tijuana [rey_misterio_tj @ Satanico’s Mansion]
1) La Mascara, Mistico, Sagrado vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto [WWA TRIOS]

This is Mora’s anniversary show and such, but really – belt #5! Theoretically, the Trio of Terror could win the trios belts, but I see Averno and Mistico in there, so I suspect I know the ending. These belts were last held by the Brazos in ’98, so they’re vacant (and pretty meaningless, but whatever.)

Gililo @ el Martiente has photos from the LLX show in Guadalajara. Meanwhile, amateur @ box y lucha says wrestlers didn’t go on with the next show in LLX, because they weren’t getting paid.

Magazines
Guerreros del Ring #85 has KeMonito as Godzilla.
Box Y Lucha #2816 has Perro beating Mistico

My San Antonio has a review of Dan Madigan’s lucha libre book.

“Mondo Lucha A Go-Go” is a book that is well worth its price in photos alone and one that followers of lucha libre will want for their collection.

Santo was in Chicago on Friday as part of the Association of Hispanic Advertising Agencies conference.

IWRG’s site is still down.

New CMLL Champion

El Occidental

Mistico won the CMLL World Welterweight Championship, defeating Mephisto on Tuesday in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara. Mistico is the 22nd champion. Mephisto had held the belt since Feburary 24, 2004.

El Occidental has the story, and a bloody victorious Mistico appears on today’s cover.

Mistico winning this belt substantially increases the chances he’ll lose the tag team titles on Friday. I do not believe he’ll have two belts for long, and I think it’s more of a matter of deciding if it makes sense for Perro and Aguila to have two belts (and probably do another title change with the tags or the trios), or if Negro/Mistico retain on Friday and drop them soon to someone else. Mistico did hold both the NWA Middleweight and the CMLL Tag Team titles for a few months last year, but CMLL has seems to avoid doing that sort of thing.

Mistico is a three belt champion at the moment – he also still the IWRG Super Welterweight Champion, though that belt is not known to been defended since just after it was created.

The only other result listed from the show is Dr. Wagner over Averno, which is odd because they weren’t originally on the card.

Update: CMLL mentions this in it’s news section.

It occurs to me that I have no idea if Arena Coliseo Guadalajara is still/back on the air, and which day they’re taping. Anyone know?

on (h)Efesto

I’m now thinking it’s a new guy and not a typo

Efesto, it turns out, is the Italian word for greek god Hephaestus. In Spanish, his name is Hefesto, so I think they might have just dropped the silent H.

He is the god of technology including, specifically blacksmiths, craftsmen, artisans, sculptors, metals and metallurgy, and fire.

That sure does sound like someone Mephisto and Averno would be hanging out with. Let’s hope he’s not Tall, or this is Eclipse, the sequal. Actually, if he’s god of tech, it’d be very sad if the wrestler who lords over this site wasn’t good. He better be awesome.
