05/07: Coliseo, Monterrey, Lucha Libre Expo

CMLL (SUN) 05/06 Arena Coliseo [Ovaciones, Alvin @ el Martinete]
1) Mini Halloween & Mr. Aguilita b Bracito de Oro & Tzuki
2) Dark Angel, India Sioux, Sahori b Hiroka, Princesa Sujei, Rosa Negra
3) Euforia, Nosferatu, Satanico b Felino, Mictlan, Tony Rivera
4) Alex Koslov, Neutron, Ultimo Dragon b Mephisto, Misterioso II, Virus
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Marco Corelone, Negro Casas b Atlantis, Olimpico, Tarzan Boy

Marco replaced Shocker. Neutron filled in for Maximo, and that’s the first time we’ve seen Neutron as Neutron since the cage match last summer. Ovaciones says the women’s match was the best match of the night.

indy (SUN) 05/06 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC @ lo mejor de lucha libre]
1) Karis, Orus, The Mummy b Angel Mortal, Gallego, Mr. Condor
2) Latin Boiler & Martha Villalobos b La Hechicera & Rey Infernal
3) Monje Negro Jr. b La Fiera, Sangre Chicana [bull terrier]
4) Antifaz & Mr. Niebla b Aventurero & Hator
5) Alebrije & Gronda II b Monsther & Pirata Morgan

The Mummy turned on his teammates. Looks like that trio has come unraveled.

Lots of articles on the Lucha Libre Expo
La Cronica does the lucha libre article for people who don’t know what lucha libre is but are reading articles about lucha libre anyway
Notimex has a general one from Friday’s show, I believe. Mistico was scheduled, and appeared in sling to sign 200 autographs. Shocker took his place there. The report here was the expo was good, but could be improved.
El Vanguarida has notes from a panel discussion about the future of lucha libre, with Cibernetico, Pierroth (speaking as a wrestler and a CMLL front office guy), Canek and Dorian Roldan. No big insights here, and the usual “Mistico will never be able to reach the Mil/Santo level because he’s not a cross-platform star” discussion. According to Roldan, AAA averages an “8” rating (no idea what that means in Mexico), currently employs 114 wrestlers (quick, name all 114!) and promoted 200 functions in Mexico last year. CMLL has over 200 wrestlers under contract (which means they have no idea how many).
Blue Demon Jr. brought 50 kids from the local children’s hospital and spoke about his own battle with cancer. This, naturally, led to a match with Veneno.
– There’s some fan reports; Mr. Reyes has pictures from Day 1, 2 and 3, and there’s a thread of unhappy people on box y lucha, feeling the expo over promised and under delivered.

IWRG’s site is still down.

05/03: Queretaro, Liger, Monterrey, Mistico not in SLP

cmll

According to Ovaciones, Leono and Maximo will be out two weeks. Leono hurt his right elbow, Maixmo hurt an ankle.

CMLL (TUE) 05/01 Arena Queretaro Lineup [Knotty @ el martinete]
1) Alasthor b Furia Dorada Jr.
2) Drabek I, Drabek II b La Flecha, Lince [1, LLQ TAG]
3) El Corsario, El Toro b Espiritu Negro, Ozuno
4) Loco Max, Nitro b Mictlan, Satanico
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Rey Bucanero b Olimpico, Tarzan Boy

Satanico turned on Mictlan, naturally. Show on the 15th will have a cibernetico with Stuka Jr., Super Nova, Maximo, Leono, Flash, and Astro Boy.

CMLL (TUE) 05/08 Arena Coliseo Lineup [CMLL Magazine]
2) Flash, Starman, Sensei vs Arkangel, Nitro, Jeque
3) Leono, Tony Rivera, Stuka Jr. vs Misterioso II, Ohara, Loco Max
4) Mr. Aguila, Damian 666, Halloween vs Sagrado, ?, Mictlan
5) Jushin Liger, Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero vs Dos Caras Jr., Hijo de Lizmark, Ultimo Dragon

Jeque lives! Also, Liger. (The ? is Maximo, but obviously no.)

According to this post (El Halcon), Mistico no-showed the SLP show yesterday and a riot ensued.

indy (FRI) 05/04 Arena Monterrey
1) Perla Negra vs Paty Rey
2) Indio Payutla & Mosco vs Dark Side & Sika
3) Cazador, Ejecutor, Tormenta Negra vs Puma de Plata, Relampago Azul, Zorro Plateado Jr.
4) Calaquita & La Parkita vs Mini Batman & Mini Killer
5) Black Power, Hijo del Diablo, Shu el Guerrero vs Angel del Amor, Azteca Warrior, Casanova

Note because they haven’t been running Friday shows previously.

Ovaciones also hypes up the Luchas 2000 show for this weekend.

A new arena has opened up Monclova, which they’re calling “Arena Monclova“. That must’ve been tough. They’re planning on twice monthly AAA shows along with boxing and other entertainment on other days. Judging from the picture, it’s not a building, just an open space with bleachers and chairs set up.

Univision has an article on Intocable, who’s apparently in one of their telenovals. The subtitle of the article is “El nuevo latin lover” and that’s very amusing.

05/02: Coliseo, IWRG, AULL, Monterrey

CMLL (TUE) 05/01 Arena Coliseo [ova]
1) Vaquero & Zayco b Espiritu Maligno & Karissma
2) Bracito de Oro & Electrico b Fire & Mini Mr. Aguilita
3) Goto, Ohara, Okumura b Brillante, Euforia, Starman
4) Ephesto, Texano Jr., Virus b Metro II, Ogun, Sagrado
5) Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca, Ultimo Guerrero b Blue Panther, Shocker, Volador Jr.
6) Atlantis b Alex Koslov [NWA LH]

Alex put up a good fight and won the first fall, but Atlantis took two and three clean. In the semimain, Ultimo beat Shocker with his own move. Sagrado filled in for Maximo, who still out from his injury on Sunday. They might as well change the teased Maximo/Texano feud to Sagrado/Texano feud – that’s what the feud was here. Euforia filled in for a hurt Leono in the third match – I’m not sure where this leaves the hair match for next Monday – and didn’t get along with his teammates. Mr. Agulita replaces Sombrita in the minis match, but I don’t know if anyone was hurt there.

IWRG (THU) 04/19 Arena Naucalpan [Hector Albores @ thegladiatores]
1) Golem & Puma King b Bacteria & Celestial
2) Cyborg & Hermano Muerte II b Trauma I & Trauma II
3) Astro Boy, Halcon Salvaje, Kid Tiger b Black Terry, Dr. Karonte Jr., Kraneo
4) Enfermero Jr., Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Veneno b Esfinge, Hijo de Anibal, Suicida
5) Black Warrior, Hijo de Cien Caras, Misterioso II b Alex Koslov, Mistico, Volador Jr.

Cyborg cheated to help his team win (was eliminated, but held the last remaining Trauma down from the outside while he was being pinned), and it sounds like they’re doing something with him and the Traumas. Veneno got turned on by Enfermero Jr. and Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. after their win, for no clear reason. Warrior snuck in a foul on Mistico.

AULL (SUN) 04/22 Arena Lopez Mateos [Jesús Silva Hernández @ thegladiatores]
1) Exterminador & Mini Demonio b Depredador & Star Cat
2) Mr. Potro & Regional b Misterio & Violento
3) King Star Tiger, Rocky Satana, Ultimo Gladiator b Psicopata, Sadico, Shu El Guerrero
4) Terry 2000 b Rey Krymen [AULL LIGHT]
5) Maximo, Mistico, Texano Jr. b Black Warrior, Hijo del Diablo, Sepulturero

indy (TUE) 05/01 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC @ lomejordelucha libre]

2) Guerrero Greigo, Kriminal, Potro Jr., Vudu b Enrique Vera, Halcon Matles, Hollywood, Sky

4) Beast, Hijo de Espanto II, Pancho Tequila b Corazon Adicto, Humberto Garza Jr., La Kalaka
5) Intocable b Golden Boy [hair]

In La Presna, Zorro says he was reborn a new man by taking off his mask.

IWRG’s site is still down.

04/29: quick Coliseo results, AAA TV notes, Accion, FSE

As it is the big show of the week, CMLL posted an update tonight with Sunday’s major results.
– Halloween, Damian and Mr. Aguila are the Mexican National Trios Champions. Texano cemented his turn to the rudo side here, and Maximo was sent to the hospital. The tecs had held it since October 05 (though it had pretty much been forgotten since last year). This is Halloween and Damian’s second reign as champions; they were stripped as champions last time when Nicho picked another booking over a scheduled defense. Aguila holds both a CMLL and Mexican Trios belt

– Mistico beat Black Warrior to become the 84th NWA World Middleweight Champion. It’s second time holding the belt, having lost it to Warrior 50 weeks ago. Mistico is now a quadruple champion.

Ovaciones has partial results from AAA’s TV taping. Following the Vipers allying with the Sect last week, Zorro unmasked (with a completely new look – but one fitting of a guy who was stuck under a mask for about a year; there’s a photo on the Satanico’s Mansion board, but it’s down at the oment) and forged a partnership between the AAA tecnicos and the Hell Brothers. I think this is just the two forces agreeing to get long, though others have read this as Zorro and Parka joining the Hell Brothers.

Accion

CMLL: Wagner/Msitico/Sagrado vs Perro/Terrible/Damian. Sagrado got more highlights than Mistico, which is odd. We didn’t see what led up to the finish, but the implication is Mistico took another clean pin from Perro.

AAA: Tinieblas/Zorro/Elegido/Octagon vs Vipers from Veracruz. Mesias runs into interfere, but Zorro wins clean anyway. The Sect stares from the entrance.

CMLL on FSE has
04/22 Coliseo: Diana la Cazadora, Marcela, Sahori b Amapola, Diosa Maya, Princesa Sujei
04/22 Coliseo: Damian 666, Halloween, Mr. Aguila b Maximo, Sagrado, Texano Jr.

04/24: Coliseo, Vampiro, Mass at Arena Mexico

Last night’s Coliseo show was an odd one. Someone felt like booking angles, which is bizarre for a Tuesday show.

CMLL (TUE) 04/24 Arena Coliseo [ovaciones, cmll, DIOS @ box y lucha]
1) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II DQ Caligula & Messala
2) Brillante, Stuka Jr., Tony Rivera b Artillero, Hooligan, Super Comando
3) Euforia, Loco Max, Nosferatu b Felino, Mictlan, Satanico
4) Maximo, Texano Jr., Virus DQ Goto, Ohara, Okumura
5) Alex Koslov, Negro Casas, Shocker b Atlantis, Tarzan Boy, Ultimo Guerrero

Alex submitted Atlantis in the main event. This is their fourth straight Tuesday opposing each other, and it sounds like it’ll be five, because Alex wants a shot at the NWA Light Heavyweight Title.

Maximo and Texano Jr. got ramped up for their big title defense on Sunday…by turning on each other! It looks like Maximo got a five man beating, with both Texano and Virus attacking him (which someone meant they won by DQ, but never mind.) No idea why – Ovaciones mentions “miscommunication”, and hints we’re already headed to a Virus/Maximo hair match. Sagrado/Texano/Maximo have zero chance of retaining the Mexican trios belts on Sunday.

In the tercera, Satanico returned to do rudo side on a permanent basis, betraying Mictlan and Felino to help his new students (Eufora and Nosferatu.) After the match, the Nuevo Nuevo Nuevo Infernales beat up Loco Max for good measure.

Caligula yanked one of the Tapatios masks. Stuka beat Super Comando.

CMLL (TUE) 05/01 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Thunder Boy vs Milenio
2) Casanova vs Fraile de la Muerte
3) Idolo vs Mr. Trueno
4) Evola vs Danger
5) Leon Blanco vs Egipcio
6) Gallo, Magnum, Stuka vs Malefico, Mascara Magica, Toxico
7) Rayman & Vampiro vs Black Warrior & Eclipse

So he’s back as a tecnico. Good to know.

(El Porvenir) Arena Mexico is often called the cathederal of Lucha Libre. This Saturday, it’s going to be a stand in church. As far as I can tell from the article, they’re having a religion convention at the normal huge church in town. It wraps up on Sunday, but theyr’e not going to be able to hold Saturday mass there as a result, and so they’re renting out Arena Mexico. To cover the rent, they’re selling tickets to church – ringside tickets are 50 pesos ($4.55US). I hope service is randomly interrupted by a Mistico chant.

This means Arena Mexico will have an event three straight days (normal Arena Mexico, mass, special show on Sunday), and also three Saturdays in a row (mass, Luchas 2000, Toryumon)

AAA’s preview of Friday’s taping including Crazy Boy talking about extreme wrestling.

(Suburban Chicago News) About 1.5 hour away from me, in Waukegan, IL, the library will be celebrating Day of the Kid by bringing in Espectro and La Parkita (listed here as brothers) to talk about life as lucha libre wrestler. Those pictures sure look familiar.

(Beaumont Journal) Beaumont, TX’s first ever Cinco de Mayo festival will include some lucha libre matches; main event is Pentagon Black/Xochitl Hamada vs Sicodelico Jr./Miss Vicky. Tickets are $15-$25 for the whole event, including a music peformance which seems to be the main act. You can get the tickets around town, and at ticketmaster.com

El Sol de Tampico has a obit for wrestler Alejandro Montana.

IWRG’s site is still down. So is El Halcon’s.

04/16: Coliseo, Guadalajara, Monterrey

Jeque unmasked
via Ovaciones

CMLL (SUN) 04/15 Arena Coliseo [ovaciones, alvin @ el martiente]
1) Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Mr. México b Tigre Blanco, Tigre Metálico, Tony Rivera
2) Ephesto, Mephisto, Misterioso II b La Máscara, Leono, Mictlán
3) Damián 666, Halloween, Mr. Águila b Máximo, Sagrado, Texano Jr.
4) Stuka Jr. b Jeque [mask]
5) Lizmark Jr., Místico, Rey Bucanero DQ Atlantis, Black Warrior, Último Guerrero

Jeque is Marrio Moreno Garcia, from Mexico City, and he’s been wrestling for 25 years. Third fall finish was a bit odd; Stuka got the pin, but Jeque popped back up, continued fighting, got his valagueza, and covered – and the ref counted three, before awarding the match to Stuka. Jeque complained after the match that Stuka’s pinfall was only a two count, and declared his mask loss to be a robbery, but unmasked because he’s a professional. It’ll be interesting to see how that comes off on TV. This match didn’t do anything for attendence, but then I’d be shocked if it did.

Warrior fouled Mistico in the main event. The Lizmark Jr. seems to be off, again. I will now communicate my anger about this in exclamation points: !!!!!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!! !

Not only did the Perros beat the Mexican Trios champs, but Damian tried to out Maximo Maximo himself! Harsh.

CMLL (SUN) 04/15 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [El Occidental]
1) Estrella de Jalisco & Neon ?? Fraile de la Muerte & Imposter
2) Guero Loco & Valentin Mayo b Azazel & Carlo Roggi

Toxico replaced Cien Caras Jr., and Rayman replaced Rayo de Jalisco (hmmm).

CMLL (SAT) 04/14 Palenque de Gallos de la Feria Chipas [El Heraldo de Chipas]
1) Murcy Jr. b ?
2) Americano, Bugambilia, Guerrerito Zulu b Angel Maligno, Psicopata, Sangre de Aguila
3) Capitan Furia, El Mexicano, El Terrorista b Dragon Negro, Guerrero Zulu, Halcon Samurai
4) Tzuki & Ultimo Dragoncito b Pequeno Violencia & Pierrothito
5) Mistico & Volador Jr. b Black Warrior & Ultimo Guerrero

AAA (SUN) 04/15 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC]

2) Ares, Karis la Momia, Orus, The Mummy b Ben Hur, Escorpio Negro, Guerrero Negro Jr., Rey Infernal
3) el Angel & Martha Villalobos b el Brazo & Tiffany
4) Alan, Billy Boy, Decnnis b Angel Mortal, Gallego, Mr. Condor
5) Elegido, Intocable, Mascara Divina b Aventurero, Espiritu, Hator

ESTO‘s recap of Friday’s Arena Mexico show says the women’s match was boring. In Notimex‘s article, Perro Jr. declares that any time he loses via a foul, it’s a win for him, and Mistico wishes he was a rudo. They also talk to the winners, where Negro explains it’s his years of experience which allows Mistico and himself to work as great partners despite never actually teaming with each other.

El Manana’s Martiente column is about – uh, I’m not sure. He’s not happy with promoters for some reason; I can’t figure it out.
