moving…but not quite yet

So, for about five minutes there, I posted that we were moving the wiki over to it’s new home. And I was really happy – until I just randomlly checked a profile with an accent in it on the new site – Anibal’s and realized how screwed up all the accents were. I don’t know how I didn’t notice that to begin with. The move’s off till I figure it out.

My two ideas
– find and replace the bad characters to the correct accents (can I do that? need to figure out how)
– figure out why the export/import messed them up in some places and not all.

I’m going to try and work on it this week, but I don’t know when I’ll have it done.

03/29 LuchaWiki update

There’s a new wiki main page update. The featured profile works off this weekend’s WWE HOF inductees, obviously. Thanks to TakemuraMetal for adding some bios the last couple weeks. I’m going to work on cleaning up the unused pictures a bit this afternoon.

Looking for an easy way to contribute? Next time you see a luchador interview in a magazine or online, check back at the wiki and see if you’re reading details we don’t have there. If you’ve got something new, add it or edit it in. It’s not much, and it’d help build the info about more recent guys who don’t yet have profiles.

I’d advise everyone not to directly link to any picture on the wiki – save it to your computer and upload it to imageshack or something – because it may not be there in a couple weeks. (Dramatic foreshadowing.)

Any suggestions you haven’t made yet? Let me know!

LuchaWiki to v1.5

Around 5pm CT today, I’m planning on locking down the wiki to run an upgrade. It shouldn’t take long before it gets back up – an hour at most, I figure.

It’s the first of a couple of things we’re doing with the site; I’ll let you know.

Edit: Actually, I apparently needed to do TWO updates. Took me a full hour to get one worth (FTP dumb issues), so I’m going to take a break for now and try the second later tonight. I’ll update this again.

Edit 2: now that I realize all I’m doing is sitting around and doing nothing, I might as well do the next upgrade.

Edit 3: all done. Let me know if something doesn’t work for you!

03/10 Lucha Wiki Update

I’ve updated the main page, just a day late

Championships with ten links or more I have left:

Worth doing
* National Atomics Title – not 10, but probably would be if we had more AAA profiles.
* National Lightweight Title – dead, though very big in the 30s-80s
* UWA World Trios Titles – classic UWA Title, flipped into a Toryumon belt.
* WWA World Welterweight Title – Santo’s peputal title. Holds it now.

In no hurry
* UWA World Welterweight Titles – ends up floating around Japan, then indy Mexico, then Toryumon.
* UWA World Middleweight Title – super indyish Japan belt
* UWA World Lightweight Title – Kato Kung Lee Jr. may be carrying it around as decoration now.
* WWA World Tag Team Titles – random confusing history, but shows up on CMLL TV occasionlly
* WWA World Heavyweight Title – Rayo’s trinket.
* WWA World Junior Light Heavyweight Title – J-Crown belt turned Tijuana belt (knockoff?)
* WWA World Trios Titles – lots of gaps
* DF Trios Titles – no records
* DF Welterweight Titles – no records

Suggestions? The other big Wanted left are some basic moves (which I’d like to wait to do animated GIFs, but my TiVo stuff isn’t high quality enough to work with it yet), locations (which will probably just mostly be links to wikipedia) and dates (which I was going to figure out what to do with, and never quite did.)

I think I’d like to do groups next, though I probably should do some more help. Eh. Everyone should just do what they want.

03/02 Lucha Wiki notes

Besides the upgrade mentioned earlier this week, there’s been some other slight changes

– I figured out how to change around the navigation bar. Gone are the Community Portal pages we hadn’t been using, in come the main categories for the bios and the moves (by far the two biggest categories.) I don’t want to make the list too long, but if there’s another page that should be included on the nav bar, think about it and let me know.

– all the categories now list the first 500 entries, so the Mexican Bios aren’t split up on two pages now and such. There’s no way in the system to make that sort of change, so I just looked thru the code till I found a way to change the system. I’ll have to remember to redo this next time we upgrade.

– there was a short period where no one could upload files, and that’s fixed. Anonymous editing was on for a while, but I’ve turned that back off.

I’ve been working thru to add more championship information the last week or so; they’re among the most wanted pages. I believe I have all the current CMLL championships listed now, with the exception of the Light Weight title (which may just be a NJPW-LA belt now and I’m not totally sure who has it.) If you’ve got a moment, take a look at one of those championship pages and let me know if they’re too busy or if the in-line defenses make it hard to follow.

Otherwise, if you’ve there are things in the wiki that interest you, go ahead and add or edit them. And if you happen to be a luchador yourself, maybe you can your own bio.

wiki software update

Starting by accident (I only meant to be testing it on another directory), I upgraded the mediawiki software which runs the luchawiki last night/this morning. Everything looks to be running fine and I’m hoping this takes care of some small problems we were having (the commeted out sections turning into garbage most of all.)

One thing that’s working now and hasn’t before is the RSS feed for Recent Changes– see what people are adding even when you’re not visiting the page.
