Projected Air Date (#857)
Mexico: 10/12
US: 11/01

You know how I sometimes complain about AAA doing three months of angles on one show, and then no angles for three months? This was the one with all the angles.

The show started with another promo. I’ll let you know when AAA blocking their show out like WWE stops being hilarious. Konnan was in ring with the urn, calling out Roldan so he could hand over his demands (which go unrecorded in AAA’s recap.) Roldan came out with security, who were promptly taken out by Jack, Teddy, Zorro and Electro. Roldan had more help, and Chris Stone, Alan Stone, Killer Clown, Zombie Clown, Psycho Clown (Psycho Circus is AAA!), Octagon, and Super Fly ran out to attack the Legion. In the scrum, Alan got the urn, but it turned out to be a fake. Konnan gave Roldan a two hour dealine to accept the demands, or else.

Opener doesn’t get much write up, just the Apaches beating the rudas.

As the second match was going on, D-Generation-Mex interrupted from the stage to introduce their newest member, Alex Koslov. This distracted Jack & Teddy and cost them the match. After the match, DGM hit the ring to confront Hart Foundation 2. Alex was about to hit Jack with a chair, but X-Pac stopped him, saying they wanted to recruit Evans for the group. X-Pac and Rocky proceeded to beat up Teddy and Nicole with a (sledge?)hammer, causing Teddy to be strechered out.

Clowns are at 210 wins now. The Dark Family (Espiritu replacing Ozz for no mentioned reason) might have won this match, if not for Chessman trying to help out and accidently spearing Espiritu. Psycho covered for the pin.

Fourth match saw Octagon get tied in the ropes and Super Fly killed again like a jobber. After the match, Konnan said the time was up and he wanted Roldan out now. Roldan did come, but instead of meeting Konnan’s demand, suggested a match where if Konnan wins, he keeps the ashes and gets to run AAA, but if Roldan wins, he gets the urn back and Konnan has to retire from wrestling. (I presume they’re having others wrestle this match for them, but it’s not made clear.) Konnan accepted, because he can’t be too worried about having to retire from wrestling; it takes something to show that clip of Konnan losing the retirement match every year while he’s still wrestling, it takes something more to do another match with him and a retirement stip.

Chessman got DQed in his match with Mesias. There’s a mention of excessive violence, but that doesn’t seem to exist in AAA. They also mention him hitting Hijo de Tirantes, which does get you a DQ here. Chessman tied Mesias up in the ropes in a crucfix position (of course!) and poured gasoline on him. Right when Chessman was about to burn Mesias alive, the Dark Family came out – and turned on Chessman. After they finished beating him, they set upon burning Mesias themselves. I guess they really wanted to be the one to do it! This time, Cibernetico made the save for Mesias. And then, the Psycho Circus showed up, and challenged Cibernetico to a match!

If you followed all that, on one read thru, give yourself a gold star. The end product is we’ve got Chessman split right back off from Cuervo/Ozz/Espirtu/Escoria but both groups are still feuding with the iffy Mesias/Cibernetico alliance. And the Clowns are here too.

AAA suggests this may set up a Chessman/Psycho Circus alliance which would not only has potential for entertainment, but could give the Psycho Circus something approaching an endgame (the Dark Family’s atomicos titles.)

In the main event, Zorro lost. That’s all Zorro gets. It seems like Zorro and Konnan are having issues about who’s in charge. Chessman also interrupted the match to challenge Cibernetico to another match. After Cibernetico won, Chessman figured there’s no time like the present and attacked Cibernetico. The save was made by Charly Manson’s music. Charly came out to the stage and said “I have decided to go with…

…” and then he just left. What a jerk!

Konnan back in the hospital

Everything to this point has been going as expected – Konnan’s donor matched up, the operation went normal, it sounded like he was recovering..

Konnan was hospitalized yesterday in Tijuana with problems stemming from the aftermath of his kidney replacement surgery due to issues with his body rejecting the donor kidney. He will be kept for observation until tomorrow at the earliest, but it could be significantly longer if he doesn’t respond well to anti-rejection drugs. There is no way he’ll be making the AAA TV tapings this week that he had actually planned on coming back on.

Dave @ WO.com

According to wikipedia, 10 – 25% of kidney transplant patients experience “acute rejection”. Konnan’s system could still accept the organ, but obviously it’s a more complicated situation at this point. Good luck to him.

07/29: Accion, Naucalpan, FSE

Accion

CMLL: Mistico vs Wagner, of course. Even in clips, there’s lots of shots of the soap opera costars. Mostly Wagner highlights, with Mistico getting in his stage dive. They skip the setup to the Ultimo run-in and the Mistico pin. Heroic job by Baby Richard for not noticing Ultimo climbing the ropes as he came back in to count the pin.

AAA: TripleMania main event, though it’s listed as Kenzo/Mesias vs Ciberentico/Chessman. We do get to see Charly and X-Pac, so who knows what that’s about. Chessman’s suicide attempt gets the skeletal replay, and it’s listed as 6m (19.6 feet) dive. The table not breaking sure didn’t help anything. Mesias’s accidental fire spot is well done, as those things go, and I was all set to mock it.

I missed DeporTV America today, but the video should be up tomorrow.

IWRG (THU) 07/26 Arena Naucalpan [superluchas, IWRG]
1) Halcon Salvaje b Shuriken
2) Yamato b Cerebro Negro, Nitro, Alex Koslov, Hijo de Mascara Ano 2000, Black Terry, Villano III, Pierroth, Pierroth JR., Electroshock, Loco Max, Kai, AK47, Hijo del Solitario, HIjo de Anibal, Hijo del Diablo, Captian Muerte, Fantasma de la Opera, Kid Tiger, Trueno, Marco Rivera, Freelance, Fierro, 911, Cyborg, Xibalba, Sasaki, Ave Fenix, Star Boy, Misterio Verde [Rey del Ring]

That’s in reverse order of elimination (Yamato is the winner, Cerebro Negro was second to last, etc.) Match went 1h40m and airs on a special IWRG/TVC broadcast, August 13th.

(box y lucha foro) On Tercera Caida, Konnan said he plans to be back in two months. He floated bringing in ROH guys to AAA. I expect US indy guys to show up in AAA in the next couple months, and almost would be disappointed if they don’t. At the same time, I don’t expect them to be specifically ROH guys – since they won’t have much name recognition in Mexico, you find better bargains in cost and availability elsewhere, and ROH has been down on lucha forever – like about since Konnan’s match there, right? Not that I’m trying to make a connection, that’s just the last time I can think of it happening, maybe there was some Super Crazy stuff after.

THAT was a pointless digression.

CMLL on FSE #48 had
07/01 Coliseo: Euforia, Nosferatu, Satanico b Felino, La Mascara, Valiente
07/01 Coliseo: Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone, Rey Bucanero b Toscano, Ultimo Guerrero, Universo 2000

Did I score a perfect on my lineup project this week? Yay for me. (The FSE lag helps.)

Konnan on WOL

I’ve uploaded Konnan’s comments on this past weekend’s Wrestling Observer Live, cut down to the stuff dealing with Mexico and AAA. As always, I figure it’s best to get it first person and make your own judgments when possible. It’s 16 minutes of spliced bits.

Thanks to cutrer on the F4 board for posting the full show, and Audacity for editing.

07/08: Coliseo, Konnan, Monterrey, Merida

CMLL/seeing is believing

CMLL (SUN) 07/08 Arena Coliseo [Alvin @ el Martinete, Ovaciones, CMLL]
1) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II b Caligula & Messala
2) Bam Bam, Pequeno Olimpico, Ultimo Dragoncito DQ Mr. Aguilita, Pequeno Damian 666, Pequeno Halloween
3) Leono, Sagrado, Tony Rivera b Eclipse, Misterioso II, Okumura
4) Mascara Ano 2000, Sangre Azteca, Ultimo Guerrero b Alex Koslov, Marco Corelone, Volador Jr.
5) Dos Caras Jr. b Universo 2000 [CMLL HEAVY]

Dos won clean. He actually tried for the press slam into a German suplex, but that wasn’t happening on Universo. He got a small package instead. The idea is the Heavyweight title is the missing piece to turn Dos from a top guy to a top guy people actually pay to see. That would be nice, but I see a couple problems here

– this is a Coliseo feud, taking place on FSLatin America in Mexico. I dunno ratings in Mexico, but it seems like only a fraction of the audience that watches the main show (much more accessible) would see this. If you really wanted to make this mean something, you do in Arena Mexico, you do it on the main TV show, and you do it on Friday so it makes all the lucha magazines this week. Unless they spoiled the finish to the magazines to get them to hype it, this won’t be covered till next week, right as they’re selling TripleMania coverage

– As sarcastically pointed out in the comments and assuming they follow up on this (and they should), who could Dos Jr. wrestle that would actually be interesting? Universo again? No. (though we’ll get some of that, and this match was said to be better than expected.) Lizmark Jr.? No (though we’ll surely get some of that.) Eclipse? (Gosh no.) Corelone’s a tecnico, thankfully.

There’s a big hole in Mexico where good heavyweights should be (though that problem seems to be global for wrestling.) They could always have Light Heavy type rudos wrestle Dos, but there doesn’t seem to be any obvious Step 2 to this plan.

In the minis match, Damian fouled Bam Bam. Usually challenges after the match, nothing agreed to. He got a small package instead. The show drew close to a sell out.

Some notes from Konnan on last night’s Wrestling Observer Live, as mentioned in the comments. Much of the show as Chris Benoit and other talk. Very little on TripleMania itself – they ran over a list of US guys expected in, and most of the rest of the AAA talk wasn’t event specific.

– The Planned US Expansion continues on…being planned. Usual bit about being an untapped market, drawing well for other promoters even who don’t have AAA’s sensibilities. They plan to have 4 US PPVs in ’08, which I took to mean Rey de Reyes/TripleMania/Verano de Escandalo/Guerra de Tiantes rather than them running shows in the US that air on PPV.

AAA plans on doing shows in the US in ’08. The guy who got them on the Warped Tour is going to be promoter for the US shows. The idea of the Warped Tour is just to get their name out there. AAA may end up creating a splinter promotion for the US shows, depending on regulation issues, but the same people (Konnan) would be in charge.

– Konnan talked highly of Dorian Roldan, making the transition from a college student who came to AAA shows and work concessions to a workaholic who has a hand in the storylines. Konnan said something like “now we have storylines, we used to just have a lot of run-ins”, which made me laugh out loud. It’s totally true.

– Konnan likes what they’re doing now – he cited the Air Force members by individual names and he likes the Hell Brothers as a group, but wants to continue improving. Production is emphasized, as always. (There’s more he said here, but I want to relisten to it to get it right before committing to it.)

Based on his comments during another part of the show, I think you’ll see AAA bring in some US indy guys/(gals?). He’d for sure bring in some TNA guys if they were freed from the their TNA contracts. Konnan is actually still under TNA contract for a year, but he figures as long as he doesn’t wrestle in the US, it’s not worth TNA’s time to fight him about it.

– Rikishi and Black Pearl are confirmed for coming in for TripleMania

– Abismo & Niebla were off TV due to rehab.

– Octagon showed up to a TV taping drunk, and Konnan took him off TV as punishment. That’s how we’ve ended up with Juvi/Fuerza.

– Konnan’s kidney surgery will not be until after TripleMania (and the Leon taping), assuming his donor matches him. He wanted to do it this week, but AAA asked for him to be around for TripleMania. He’s going to be in the hospital for three weeks, and then new a couple weeks after that to get in shape, but hopes to be in the ring soon after. (That would be – late August/September?)

Konnan figures the tecnicos will get a huge reaction when they finally get him to take a bump. I think the tecnicos will get a big reaction, but it’s more because he’s a star and he hasn’t taken a bump in a while. Konnan’s interfered a lot and the tencicos haven’t got anything back on them, but Konnan’s interference is always when all the rudos are beating up all the tecnicos – it never changes the match, and gets lost in the fifteen other things going on. But we’ll see how it plays out.

El Sol de Tlaxcala has a brief preview of the 07/28 taping. Not much more than Mesias and Cibernetico will be fighting (like every show) and Tinieblas Jr., Zorro, Intocable, and La Parka Jr. will appear.

Super Luchas #220 has the WWE tour.

Team Skayde In Japan, DAY 1 (07/08 Dragon Gate Arena) – via DGUSA
1) Super Shisa (Pentagon Black), Jorge Rivera (Skayde) b The Tuborman (Turbo), Shisa Boy
4) Naruki Doi, Black Thunder b Tozawa, Matt Sydal

Should I know who Shisa Boy is? I think I’m supposed to. Slippin’.

I swore I saw Toryumon Mexico results, but I can’t remember where. Maybe I’m just thinking of Black Terry’s video.

Konnan out of TNA

WrestlingObserver.com is reporting Konnan quit TNA before their tapings tonight in Orlando. Ron Killings is mentioned as having given notice and jumping to AAA, which had been talked about for a while (he’d just returned from injury.)

In addition, Ricky Banderas was scheduled to start working in TNA as of this taping and isn’t listed on the results. He was supposedly going to feud with Abyss, and Tomko got that slot instead. With the split, I’d presume Banderas was done in TNA before he started.

AAA seemed to stop booking TNA talent since Rey de Reyes, so no one should be dropping off their roster.
