1950 Guadalajara results added to the lucha db

Following doing the two years of Laguna results, I still wanted to find other areas. (I really want to find Mexico City, I have not found Mexico City.) It did occur to me that since El Siglo de Torreon listed their newspaper archive search called “hemeroteca”, maybe I could just search that “hemeroteca mexico” and find other papers. Obvious idea worked, though not perfectly. Some, like National Archive, only have too old newspapers with most of the runs ending well before the 1930s. Others turn out to be only available in person or temporary suspended, where temporary may be forever. Others don’t go back so far; El Universal has it’s archive only back to 1999 (and you have to hunt around to find that much and they don’t cover lucha much.) I’m sure there are some I’m missing, since the one I started with never turned up, but I did find a useful one.

Guadalajara’s El Informador has a newspaper archive online. That’s the good thing. The bad thing is the search function seems to be mostly broken. The search for lucha libre found entries in December 1949, January 1950 and then skipped ahead 30 years, and then skipped again 10 more. It also has a digital copy of every edition of the newspaper, so you can just start flipping thru looking for lucha libre content if you’re very persistent. And so that’s what I did.

The 1950 (and a few scattered 1949) lineups have all already. I can do produce a list of the ones I added if someone wants it; don’t think that was being used and they’re also much easier to pick out because they’re pretty much the only 1950 results. They’re generally only results. El Informador wrote about the shows in January, but then appeared to stop. They continued printing the poster for the show, and I’ve gotten the lineups from those. Shows were usually on Tuesdays and Sundays (exactly as today), and I started looking at almost only editions for those days. The posters typically only listed the top couple matches, so there’s a lot of blanks even on what I do have. This is pretty complete of what could be found in that paper, but maybe another source would have more.

Guadalajara Lineups/Results (02/06 fan appreciation show)

CMLL (SUN) 01/18 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Principe Leon b Principe Dylan
2) Thunder Boy b Acertijo
3) Depredador (GDL) & Exterminador b Carlo Roggi & Ebola
4) Hijo del Faraon, Metal Blanco, Metatron b Mr. Trueno, Rey Trueno, Semental
5) Angel de Oro & Volador Jr. b Rey Bucanero & Satánico
6) Héctor Garza, Hijo de Fantasma, La Máscara b Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero [CMLL TRIOS]

Nothing else much to note, except Roggi and Ebola are meant to be tecnicos. I thought they were rudos, shows what I know.

No Volador/Rey title match has been added to 01/25. Instead, Carlo Roggi vs Ebola in a hair match, the culmination of a rudo/rudo feud.

CMLL (TUE) 01/27 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Quazar vs Meteoro
2) Plata vs Samurai
3) Metatron vs Rafaga
4) Marcela & Sahori vs Amapola & Medussa
5) Dark Angel, Goddess, Lady Apache vs Hiroka, La Nazi, Princesa Blanca
6) Marco Corleone & Shocker vs Averno & Mephisto

Yes, two women’s matches. I may have to call for a wellness check on some of you after reading that. If it was me, I might change it up a little so we have one good->great match and also another match, but that’s not what’s going on here. The only women in the cage not in this is Mima, who’s back in Mexico soon but perhaps not this soon.

CMLL (FRI) 02/06 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Metal Blanco & Metatron vs Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
2) Boomerang, Meteoro, Virgo vs Mr. Aguilita, Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Halloween
3) Mascara Dorada & Stuka Jr. vs Ephesto & Mephisto
4) Máximo, Sagrado, Shocker vs Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca
5) Dark Angel vs Marcela, Lady Apache, Amapola, Mima Shimoda, Sahori, Princesa Blanca, Goddess, Hiroka, Medussa, La Nazi [cage, hair]

Date is correct. Echoing the plan in Puebla, GDL’s monthly special show will be on a special day, allowing them to keep running their normal schedule. Friday’s an odd day, given the normal show in Arena Mexico, but they also have Puebla’s special show on Saturday so that’s probably not a better option. Friday’s the farthest away from Sunday and Tuesday they can get as well, though they may want to look into not running all the Fan Appreciation shows on the same week.

Not really much going on in the undercard and I don’t know how well this will do. It is intersting that we’ve got GDL regulars against CMLL minis; I think Puebla guys have filled in minis matches there, but it’s not a regular thing.

They’ll be selling tickets in advance to this show at the 02/01 and 02/03 shows (lineups not announced), and it seems like you might only be able to get the cheaper tickets if you do buy in advance. Prices are 60 pesos ($4.37) for ringside (20 for kids), and 20 pesos everywhere else (10 for kids.) I would pay $4.50 to go to this show, but I’m not living in GDL.

11/26: Puebla, Mexico, GDL, Spain

Mistico/CMLL

Mistico is insane. The story here was Mistico’s return (and Dorada’s debut/return with a new name) in the same building where he got hurt, against the guy who was blamed for failing to catch him on a dive (Rey, and how they explain that without pointing out it’s a work is beyond me, but go with it.) Crowd was behind the rudos, which is apparently normal for Tuesdays in Guadalajara.

Late in the first fall, tecnicos send the rudos to the floor and head for dives. Mistico goes after Rey with a tope, just like last time, but Rey moved again and Mistico crashed and burned again! Dorada got pinned with the Buca Storm, and Mistico got counted out. Luckily, he did not break his collarbone this time, but even if they found ‘a safe way to miss a dive’ (whatever), I can’t believe they’d try it.

Tecnicos rallied to win fall two, Mistico getting Rey with a ‘rana as Dorada did the same to Atlantis. Dorada got Rey win the third fall, and Mistico locked in la Mistica on Atlantis. Just as Atlantis was giving up, Rey came back in and ripped off Mistico’s mask. Mistico challenged for a mask/hair match, Rey refused and pointed out they have five billion titles between them, perhaps one of those instead. The article thinks that a title match will happen on the 12/14 show, but…

CMLL (SUN) 12/14 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Ángel Azteca Jr. & Hijo del Faraon vs Calígula & Méssala
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Princesa Blanca vs Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei
3) Bam Bam, Tzuki, Último Dragoncito vs Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
4) Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra, Máximo vs Heavy Metal, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
5) Héctor Garza, Místico, Shocker vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero

This is basically an Arena Mexico show in Guadalajara, and they’re advertising it as a celebration as a 75th Anniversary celebration. Nothing else to note about yesterdays show except they really did have an opener end in a double count out.

CMLL also announced they’re starting to do fan appreciation days for the Arena Coliseo Sunday shows, starting next Sunday. Perhaps that’s why they pushed the title match back, since the first show would be next Sunday. Speaking of, Ovaciones has an interview with Euforia & Nosfreatu, who want a title match already.

Santo in Spain articles
interview in Publico
– usual what is lucha libre article
– usual who is el Santo article
– previews of a Santo movie double feature
– mention of his comic book convention appearance.

There are plenty more, but you get the idea. Whoever’s in charge of interacting with the press for Santo/Todos X El Todos is working hard for their money.

RFC has a video interview with Chessman.

SoloLuchas has an AULL show with a 12 man mask for 01/01/09, but I can’t bring myself to be entering 2009 lineups into the database before Thanksgiving.

They also talk to Chico Che, who was Super Ska before he lost his mask and is willing to fight the Pachuca Chico Che for the rights to the name, and the Junior Capos. Hijo de Cien Caras says he does NOT want to face Santo or Perro, unless they come to IWRG and fight him there.

SuperLuchas looks back at Negro Casas vs Jushin Lyger as part of their continuing their El Toreo series.

In the Laguna, they’re planning to run the usual everyone in CMLL’s home for the holidays and wrestling one show show on 12/21.

Ohtani’s Jacket writes about the Guerreros vs Infernales from 1991, and a really great Gran cochisse vs Satanico title match.

07/10 Gualajara roundup

CMLL (SUN) 07/06 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [CMLL]
1) Relampago b Poseidon
2) Idolo & Impostor b Azazel & Frayle de la Muerte
3) Guerrero Samurai II, Metal Blanco, Metatron DQ Güero Loco, Rafaga, Super Maquina
4) Casanova & Tony Rivera DQ Euforia & Toxico
5) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto [CMLL TRIOS]

I was wrong, it was a title match. Garza pinned Averno to retain the title. Guero Loco was going loco all over the midcard, fouling someone to cause a DQ in his match, then randomly running in on the semimain for that DQ.

CMLL (TUE) 07/08 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Quazar b Milenio
2) Ebola b Palacio Negro
3) Exterminador b Virgo
4) Malefico & Máscara Mágica b Thunder Boy & Tony Rivera
5) Leon Blanco b Vangelis
6) Averno & Virus b Sagrado & Valiente
7) Mr. Niebla b Dr. Wagner Jr.

Unannounced, they did the big Wagner/Niebla match here. Niebla won via foul, so they didn’t just ditch it, but if they believe it’s supposed to mean something, you think it would’ve been originally advertised. It wasn’t a no show situation – they were supposed to be in an incredible pairs tag with Averno and Sagrado, who were there and moved around. Maybe they just wanted to start practicing the singles match before they do it in Arena Mexico. Not sure.

A local guy beating a CMLL guy would be news, but it’s Vangelis.

CMLL (SUN) 07/13 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Carlo Roggi & Milenio vs Azazel & Valentin Mayo
2) Depredador (Guadalajara), Ebola, Super Maquina vs Oro II, Plata, Virgo
3) Casanova & Tony Rivera vs Euforia & Güero Loco
4) Axel & Rayman vs Black Warrior & Mephisto
5) LA Park & Shocker vs Terrible & Universo 2000
6) Atlantis vs Místico

This is an Atlantis tribute show.

CMLL (TUE) 07/15 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Quazar vs Relampago
2) Idolo vs Egipcio
3) Palacio Negro vs Rey Trueno
4) Magnum vs Exterminador
5) Metal Blanco vs Mr. Trueno
6) Malefico, Máscara Mágica, Toxico vs Gallo, Thunder Boy, Tony Rivera
7) LA Park & Shocker vs Texano Jr. & Universo 2000

06/08.2: Coliseo, Guadalajara

CMLL (TUE) 06/05 Arena Coliseo
1) Polvora & Zayco b Super Camaleon & Super Tri
2) India Sioux, Lady Apache, Princesa Blanca b Hiroka, La Nazi, Mima Shimoda
3) Mini Olimpico b Mini Damian 666 [CMLL MINI]
4) Leono, Mictlan, Sombra b Goto, Ohara, Okumura
5) Dos Caras Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr., Sagrado b Atlantis, Olimpico, Tarzan Boy

Not much news here. On the rare occasions they’ve been running mini singles matches at spot shows, this is the match they’ve run, so I bet it was good.

CMLL (SUN) 06/03 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Virgo b Milenio
2) Casanova & Estrella de Jalisco b Fraile de la Muerte & Imposter
3) Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno b Idolo & Nube Roja
4) Infierno, Jeque, Malefico b Metal Blanco, Metalik, Metatron
5) Emilio Charles Jr., Máscara Mágica, Toxico b Flash, Gallo, Stuka Jr.
6) Místico & Sagrado b Averno & Misterioso II

I think you may know how the main event ended. Emilio fouled Gallo for the win, Jeque fouled Metal Blanco for the win.

CMLL (TUE) 06/05 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Exterminador b Milenio
2) Danger (Guadalajara) b Lider
3) Oro II b Mr. Trueno
4) Flash b Infierno
5) Jeque b El Gallo
6) Emilio Charles Jr. & Malefico b Magnum & Stuka Jr.
7) Blue Panther & Negro Casas b Averno & Ephesto

Jeque snuck in a low blow on Gallo. He’s unstoppable! I think they’re actually building him up here for another stip match, which I was kinda rooting for. Even though I never thought he was that super, Jeque deserved a better end.

05/31: Guadalajara, Monterrey, AAA/Warped Lineup (take 2)

5) Leon Blanco & Rayman DQ Cien Caras Jr. & Hijo de Cien Caras [torneo, final]
6) Pierroth, Shigeo Okumura, Terrible b Dr. Wagner Jr., Lizmark Jr., Shocker

Better version of the results – Lizmark did turn on his partners. That Rayman/Cien tag feud goes on, though no title match is announced.

CMLL (TUE) 05/29 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [cmll]
1) Milenio b Virgo

4) Super Astro & Zorro vs Aventurero & Hator
5) Charly Manson, Chessman, Cibernetico vs Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz

Ovaciones has an interview with Extreme Tiger. He vows to make each match better than his last. Ovaciones also lists the second series of CMLL action figures: LA Park, Shocker, Damian 666, Hijo de Lizmark, Olimpico, Black Warrior, Averno, Mephisto, and KeMonito.

This preview of the Warped Tour says the AAA wrestlers are Mini Charly Manson, Mini Chessman, Super AAA, Angel, Psicosis and Deccnis. (Scroll about 2/3rds of the way down – right before the freak show.) A trios match and two minis makes a bit more sense, though it’s a tiny crew anyway.

(El Sol de Tijuana) Medico Asesino Jr. says he’s going to go into promoting events, teaching and writing after he retires from wrestling.

Tabasco Hoy‘s short article about 15 years of AAA is notable just for the weird lists of “AAA stars” and “LLL stars”, which are just a bit off. Apparently, the Air Force stretches between groups, not to mention Vampiro would be pretty surprised to find himself back in AAA. Newspaper fact checking is a funny thing.
