Tijuana feuds, Atlantis & Azul keep their titles, Centella de Oro

AAA MW (FRI) 09/14/2012 Auditorio de Tijuana [The Gladiatores]
1) Angelus & Eternus b Fantástico & Misionero De La Muerte
2) Falcon De Oro & Piloto Nuclear b Tornado Negro I & Tornado Negro II
firs match in years for Oro & Nuclear.
3) Juventud Guerrera NC TJ Boy [AAA CRUISER]
TJ Boy had Juvi pinned with a powerbomb when 8 men ran in wearing Blue Demon masks to attack both TJ Boy and their seconds (Tornado Negro & Extasis; unclear if Juvi is attacked) They revealed themselves to be Ursus, Jonathan, Tony Casanova, Viento, Zarco, Mr. Maldito, Angel Metalico and X-Torm (as leader). Psicosis, Border Patrol, Konnan and the remaining opening card guys ran in for the save, with Konnan promising to invade the Crash show in two weeks.
4) Hijo de Rey Misterio II b Cibernético and El Mesías and Silver King
Silver King pinned both Cibernetico and Mesias with help from Konnan an illegal kicks, Hijo de Rey Misterio beat Silver for the win. Mr. Tempest attacked Rey Misterio after the match to set up a mask match between them.
5) Máscara Año 2000 Jr. & Psicosis b Dr. Wagner Jr. & Joe Lider
Both Mascara and Psicosis started the mask matched, but Wagner took Mascara’s mask off in the second fall. Rudos took 1/3, Psicosis pinning Lider, Wagner pinning Mascara, and Psicosis using the stapler (with the ref not seeing) to beat Wagner.

CMLL (SUN) 09/16/2012 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Kaiser Sports (1-5)Kaiser Sports (6)]
1) Akuma & Guerrero Negro Jr. b Oro Jr. & Robin
Akuma debuted and won with a valagueza, which runs in the family.
2) Fuego, Pegasso, Triton b Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
tecnicos took 2/3, Fuego beatnig Virus.
3) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Super Porky b Black Warrior, Misterioso Jr., Olímpico
Tecnicos took 1/3. Warrior blatantly fouled Super Porky.
4) Tiger b Sagrado [lightning]
Tiger snuck in a cradle before pinning Sagrado in 5:10.
5) Marco Corleone, Máximo, Prince Devitt b Dragón Rojo Jr., Rey Escorpión, Taichi
Tecnicos took 2/3. Dragon Rojo & Prince Devitt feuded, though were not involevd in the finish.
6) Atlantis & Diamante Azul b Felino & Mr. Niebla [CMLL TAG]
Atlantis & Diamante Azul are the champs and kept the belts by winning falls 2/3. The musical act for the night played the Atlantis’ music. In a post match interview, Atlantis pointed out that if he’s the “malo amigo” the Guerreros keep calling him, why is he a successful tag champion and they’re breaking up? Azul proposed a title unification match with Stuka & Fuego, and so will never get to book this promotion.

It’s really too bad Atlantis didn’t stick with Party Rock if they were going to have someone play his music live.

JCR mentioned they’d be back in Arena Coliseo next week.

Full results from tonight’s AAA taping should be around tomorrow. Their live reporting ended early, as usually happens. There really can’t be any be a bigger news then Consejo debuting their own fake QueMonito. Such an odd decision for a scary invasion group, but they really haven’t been one of those for a while.

Possibly more Guadalajara results later as well, but we know Hijo del Fantasma & La Sombra beat Mr. Aguila & Vangelis in the main event. Even Hijo del Fatnasma can’t be losing to that rudo team.

Porra Fresa catches up with Centella de Oro, who talks about his career. He says he left Arena Puebla on by his own choice and (like every luchador), has started his own Elite de Oro school.

LuchaWorld posted video of Rush vs Terrible and Puma King vs Rey Coemta, both which are getting very strong reviews. Rob posted his review on his blog.

Rob has highlights of 02/17/12 CMLL and 08/28/12 CMLL.

SuperLuchas #480 has the Anniversary show, Lolita and Cibernetico.

5) Super Crazy b X-Fly [hair]
6) Dr. Wagner Jr. DQ Ciberneticoel Hijo del Perro Aguayo

Yes, a DQ in the main event of a Perro show. Cibernetico & Perro recalled that they were friends and ripped off Wagner’s mask. Damian and Aguila came out to help beat hiim down, and Super Crazy made the save to set up a tag match next time thru. (This seems to be the standard match they’re building to on these shows.) Triangle matchw as a hardcore brawl. Crowd looks half full, but that’s a big building.

IWRG (SUN) 01/11 Arena Naucalpan [the Gladiatores, SoloLuchas]
1) Avisman b Imperio Azteca
2) Eragon & Galactik b Anticristo Jr. & Nemesis (IWRG)

4) Trauma ITrauma IIZatura b Oficial 911Oficial AK47Oficial Fierro
5) FreelanceFuerza GuerreraHijo de AnibalPendulo b ArlequinPierroth IITesuya BushiVeneno

Freelance replaced Multifacetico in the main and probably regrets it. In the second fall, he tried a dropkick to the floor, connected, but still hit his head hard off the mat and went into seizures. Sounds like a very scary situation; SoloLuchas compares it to Oro’s death. He was taken away on a stretcher, and I have not seen an update on his condition. Match focused on Veneno/Fuerza and they made challenges after the match.

New tecnicos Traumas beat the IWRG trios champs thanks to their partner, who got 911 with a ‘rana. 911 might have gotten his shoulder up in time, there was a post match arguement about, but the Oficials are defending their titles anyway.

Cerebro Negro fouled one of the Gemelos. The other Gemelo fouled Negro in revenge, but only the tecnico was caught. Second man always pays the price.

After being swept by Imperio Azteca a couple weeks ago, Avisman returned the sweep the other way. I’ve been thinking, I need to start working sweeps in the listings up there, but I don’t know of a good abbrevation. “S”? “St”? I don’t know if that’s clear enough. Swept itself isn’t really that long, but DQ Sweep/CO Sweep is.

CMLL (TUE) 01/13 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [MT]
6) Angel de Oro & Mictlán b Satánico & Semental
7) Héctor GarzaLa SombraMark Corleone b AtlantisEuforiaÚltimo Guerrero

Tecs took the main event clean, Hector getting UG to build to the trios match here. Article mentions this was Mictlan’s debut in GDL. I could not believe that – he’s been in CMLL for two years – but sure enough, it’s true. Well, it’s “Mictlan”‘s debut, anyway.  I wonder if they kept him away since he’d been wrestling unmasked in GDL (as Vaquero I) before starting as Mictlan?

CMLL (TUE) 01/13 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, ESTO]
1) Pegasso & Rey Cometa b Puma King & Tiger Kid
2) Dr. XHooliganLoco Max b Ángel Azteca Jr.Fabián el GitanoTony Rivera

4) Black WarriorDragon Rojo Jr.Sangre Azteca b Mascara DoradaSagradoValiente
5) Blue PantherDos Caras Jr.La Máscara DQ TerribleTexano Jr.Villano III

Yay, Dos Caras Jr. actually appeared.  Dos went on Tercera Caiada and said he’s signed with CMLL for 4 years, and he’d have a better position than he would in WWE. I have no trouble believing that, but we knew that months ago and this still got dragged out.  The bottom line is Dos’ not going to WWE, he’s staying in CMLL, and I have no idea what they’re actually going to do with him but he gets to be in a lot of meaningless main events like this one. V3 fouled Panther for the DQ.

Poder Mexica is still undefeated in Arena Mexico (though they’ve lost elsewhere.)

ESTO’s article loses major points by talking about the “tremendous cold spell”. It was in the 50s there yesterday, and I was driving thru a blizzard this morning. WEAK.

CMLL announced Arena Puebla’s Fan Appreciation day (the monthly cheap ticket show) will now be on Saturdays, starting with February 7th. Not sure if that means they’ll be running two shows on those weeks. They have run shows on Saturdays and Mondays (and Thursday and Monday) in the past.

Ovaciones has a big interivew with Pierrothito about his mask win. He says it’s special, but also spends half the interview challenging Mascarita Dorada. They mention that Pierrothito will be wrestling in Arkansas from 01/22 to 01/25, then McAllen, Texas in the middle of February. There’s lucha libre in Arkansas? (Casino show, has to be.)

Ovaciones also features yet another Arturo Rivera column. Too bad he’s trying to make up for lost time when there’s absolutely nothing going on with AAA. 2/3rds of the article is going thru the matches on the next taping (Sunday) and teasing new foreigners in the Legion without naming names. He does mention that Rey de Reyes is supposed to be in Ciudad Madero.

Big AAA news: they added a profile page for Rio Bravo. He’s the masked guy in Poder el Norte, but of course you knew that.

Informador has a long career retrospective with Atlantis, focusing on his start, his mask match with Villano 3 (Atlantis says he was losing that one) and his many accomplishments.  They mention he had 43 defenses of the NWA Middleweight Championship, and I think 41 of those were all in the same title reign in 2.5 year span. That means he was defending the title every 3 weeks for 30 straight months. There are titles today that go 30 straight months without any defenses, and a lot Atlantis defenses were in the main arenas.

Over on Televisa Deportes’ site, they’ve post their first lucha content in a while: Felino’s wishes for 2009. He does look for more for Pesta Negra (which hasn’t teamed up together much), but more so looks for good things for his nephews Tiger Kid and Puma King (Felino says they’re wearing cat gear because they like their uncles, and they don’t want to be yet another Junior, hmmmm) and his wife, Princesa Blanca (4 straight Friday shows! Turning ruda does pay off.)

The Katharis lucha libre exhibit is extending it’s run until January 25. They’ve had 30,000 visitors.

The Lucha Libre Expo people already have a (bare) website up for this year’s edition; it’ll be May 1st thru the 3rd. Not sure if it’s too soon to note there’s a CMLL logo but no AAA one. Four months is plenty of time to change. (thanks to Mr. Reyes)

A recap of Monday’s action at the January Leon fair includes 3 minuntes of video action. The article mentions the new setup is hurting the shows – they’re essential on an outdoor orchestra stage and the people are too far away.

Guerreros del Ring #173 has Sangre Azteca on the cover, and an interview with Hijo del Santo on the inside. There’s also a feature on Ultimo Guerrero’s new gym/CMLL lucha libre school. That is a school worth attending.  I’d take the spinning classes.

Villano III is now selling his merchandise thru SuperLucha’s website. It makes more sense for people to work together for things like this rather trying to do their own online store  (but then, it usually makes more sense for a promotion to do it for them.)

On the other side, Box Y Lucha is making log in – to a new account that doesn’t seem at all connected with the message board account? – just to view the lineups for the week. The free info the promotions are giving to them to promote their shows can only be viewed if you sign up for something, and I don’t think everyone’s going to make the same I effort I did just to find out the WFS lineup (Monsther vs Black Terry in a huuuuge 12 man tag). Is the internet at 2001 in Mexico? And how many years is that ahead of other things?

Kcidis posted a drawing of Abismo Negro.

Ohtani’s Jacket watches the torneo and the main of the 01/01 El Toreo Tribute show and likes Dos Caras Sr.’s matwork. This reminds me – somehow, I wrote 2000+ words about an indy show and neglected to mention that Canek & Silver King will be on the next Cicero show.  I don’t know if that helps.  Anyway, at least one of the El Toreo tribute shows this week in Neza and Lopez Mateos is supposed to air on TVCDeportes.

07/27: Mexico, Puebla, AAA, Gudalara, Xalapa, Veracruz

ESTO

Big main event in Arena Mexico tonight:

CMLL (FRI) 07/27 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Sombra de Plata vs Calígula & Méssala
2) Leono, Stuka Jr., Super Nova vs Hirooki Goto, Misterioso II, Shigeo Okumura
3) La Sombra, Mascara Purpura, Valiente vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
4) Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero, Sagrado vs Damian 666, Texano Jr., Villano V
5) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone vs Hector Garza, Mr. Aguila, Terrible
6) Mistico vs Dr. Wagner Jr.

I finally get this feud, now that CMLL’s preview has taken me by the hand and walked me thru it.

Up till, say, three weeks ago, Dr. Wagner Jr. was confident he was The Best Wrestler In The World. Mistico had some big matches, Mistico won some titles, Mistico won some belts, but Dr. Wagner Jr. just thought he was a good kid who won a lot. (And his belt is bigger and shinier.) Wagner & Mistico made a good team when they teamed, but Wagner knew for sure that if they ever faced, he could swat the kid down, because he’s The Best Wrestler In The World.

Then, Mistico (& la Sombra) beat Wagner (& Purpura) and Wagner’s perspective on the world was shattered. It’s no wonder he joined the rudos, he had to join the rudos to face Mistico and he had to face Mistico to beat him. Wagner wasn’t looking to be a rudo full time, he was just looking for a way to prove he’s the best. He got the win in the the trios match, and then he grabbed a partner and beat Mistico in a tag match. And just because people thought he fouled Mistico, he’d do one more tag title match to unquestionably prove the point. When Mistico stole the win, Wagner was shattered again, and so we’ve come to this.

If Wagner wins, he can once again claim to be The Best Wrestler In The World (though the matter isn’t totally finished, especially if it’s not clean.) If Mistico wins, then what? The mask challenge, which probably won’t happen, for sure. Would they let Mistico wrestler for a heavyweight title?

Ovaciones has a preview of the show, as does ESTO and NOTIMEX, all focusing on the main event. ESTO says the trio of Averno, Mephisto and Ephesto “is more dangerous than Satan.”

There’s a thread over on DVDVR discussing the show.

Ovaciones has an article on the Rowdy Tecnico fans.

How long till a rematch?

El Sol de Tampico has a preview. Dark match opener is listed here Impluso & El Lince vs Disturbio & Arana Maligna. Note the main event is in a cage – I’m going to go out on a limb and guess Chessman will attempt suicide and be fine by the next taping. Show starts at 9 PM local time.

I’m picking Super Fly to continue his winning streak and take the high fliers match.

(ESTO) Monito suffered a nose injury, and underwent surgery on Monday. He’s supposed to be out 15 days,

ESTO reports a team of CMLL wrestlers will take on the cast of a night time TV in a TV music contest. The show’s called “En Busca de la Nueva Banda”, and the CMLL representatives are Fabian el Gitano, Nitro, Felino, India Sioux, Princesa Blanca, and Amapola. This MUST make it on to YouTube. I think this airs on Sunday.

Atlantis is filming a (direct to video) movie called “Atlantis al recate“. The movie is about using dolphin therapy for people with psychologically and neurological issues.

Rocky Mountina News interviews Psicosis II about the Warped Tour. SPOILER: They give away his real name in the second paragraph. I may have ruined lucha libre by linking to that.

01/26: Mexico lineup change, Guadalajara, AULL, SLP

CMLL

The top two matches for tonight’s Arena Mexico show have changed.

Originally, it was
4) Dos Caras Jr., Lizmark Jr., Universo 2000 vs LA Park, Marco Corelone, Último Guerrero
5) Místico, Rey Bucanero, Shocker vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Halloween, Terrible

CMLL.com now lists
4) Lizmark Jr., Shocker, Universo 2000 vs LA Park, Marco Corelone, Último Guerrero
5) Místico, Rey Bucanero, Dr. Wagner Jr. vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Halloween, Terrible

Esto echos those changes in it’s preview, but also has late breaking info that Universo 2000 will miss the show due to a shoulder injury, and his replacement is TBA. Esto also says the Lizmark Jr. rudo turn is off, though Notimex thinks it may go down.

off topic: I wonder if they were thinking of doing a father/son mask match with the Lizmarks, and that’s why he was turning rudo? I’m a little too interested in figuring out how Lizmark’s losing his mask, I think.

ESTO also has an interview with Atlantis. He’s hopeful he might get that mask match with Dr. Wagner in 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007!

CMLL (SUN) 01/21 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara Results [cmll]

2) Astro Boy, Robin Maravilla vs Dr. Karonte I, Dr. Karonte Jr. [AULL Tag, 2nd, torneo]
3) Coco Rojo, Coco Verde vs Cerebro Negro, Fantasma de la Opera
4) Rey Bucanero, Ultimo Gladiador, Terry 2000 vs Olimpico, Sadico, Rey Krimen
5) Mistico vs Sepultuero [mask]

CMLL (WED) 01/31 Plaza de Toros El Paseo Lineup [Sol de SLP]
4) Felino, Maximo, Rayo de Plata Jr. vs Sangre Guerrera, Dr. X, Sabu Jr.
5) Mistico, Blue Panther, La Mascara vs Averno, Mephisto, Ephesto

This previews is so weird. They hype up the show by saying “Felino’s coming! Felino’s awesome, ain’t he? And Magadan will be there, and he sure says some controversial things. Also, Mistico.” This is the Arena Mexico San Luis Potosi crew (/Rayo de Plata’s promotion), and so they’re taking this Sunday off from their weekly show, and handing out awards instead. They’ve already announced the winners

Wrestler: Rayo de Plata Jr.
New Wrestler: Salome
Rudo: Sabu Jr.
New Rudo: Black Fantasy
Special Mention: Sombra del Misterio, Lover Boy, Fuerza Maligna, Leopardo

El Siglo de Torreon has an extensive breakdown of the upcoming wrestlers license season. Every Thursday till the end of February, between 6 and 8, wrestlers can go to Auditorio Municipal de Torreon, get their required physical and pay 100 pesos ($9US) to pick up their license for 2007. If they wait to March, it’s 120 pesos for the license and 50 pesos for the physical. Currently, there are 140 active wrestlers in the local area.

Also in March, they’ll test any trainees who want to get licensed – they’ll have to work before three well known (but yet to be decided) local people from the scene, who will decide if they’re qualified to be in the wrestling ring. I’ve read about this in the Box Y Lucha regulations, but I wasn’t certain this was something they still did. It’s kinda awesome. Things are significantly less stringent in the US.

Mictlan from GdR #56

The second match from this weekend’s GdR, slightly cut to take out breaks and the post match so it’d fit under the 10 minute limit.

You can get it from sendspace here – http://www.sendspace.com/file/f7k2g2 – but it’s not going to last long before hitting the limit. I’m going to put up a version on YouTube, but I need to re-encode it at smaller size.

Next Congress Show

According to luchafan on CPW (worthwhile read just for the debate about Pantera – maybe it’s one of the Tigres we’re confused with here?), the next Congress show is scheduled for 02/24. I dare not guess what time the show might start – their website hasn’t updated with it yet.

Main is still Mil Mascaras, Mascara Sagrada, Felino vs Pantera, Villano III, Rey Mysterio Sr. (or other some combination). It’s a Friday night and I’m not completely ruling out going because of it, but this’ll be the Mil show (and be billed as “Mil’s last trip to Chicago!”), and last time I saw Mil (in Aurora), he was wrestling exactly how you’d expect a 60+ year old luchador who only needs to live off his name would wrestle. Felino can go and did go when I saw him in Aurora and I think there could be some fun sequences here, but it’s not enough to get me going.

I think the show will draw pretty good, because it’s Mil first show in Congress (I think – nagging suspicion I’m forgetting something) and he’s still a Name, but because I’m a fan of what I’m a fan of, I’d be much more hyped about any random combination of six CMLL undercarders than this.

(this is post 4 on the day, by the way. We may hit six or seven!)
