Santo in AAA for TripleMania only, CMLL to announce anti-TripleMania today?, Mini Damian, GDL

AAA tapes today Aguascalientes. By the end of the night, we should have an AAA Cruiserweight Champion and probably have more officially announced participants in the TripleMania cage match. Perhaps some other matches for TripleMania too. AAA hypes Silver King vs Dr. Wagner in the main tag match.

Speaking of that show, El Hijo del Santo told Reforma that he’s only signed for the appearance at TripleMania right now.

Ovaciones says CMLL will hold a press conference today to announce their plans for the June 12th show, suggesting either Shocker/Dos Jr. or Epehsto/Rey Buc matches. This is usually the Jucio Final show and I still think the big cage match is the most likely possibility, with Ephesto and Rey doing the singles title match on the lead up. Remember when the CMLL LH title was over? A long time ago.

It probably won’t be a Mini Damian 666/Shockercito main, not just for the very obvious reasons: CMLL.com says that match will probably be on June 2nd. Fuego en el Ring caught up with Mini Damian 666 way back before the flu, but just posted the interview now. Luckily, he was still feuding with Shockercito at that point, so we can get his reasoning now: he was Fire’s second when Shockercito took that rudo’s hair, so he’s going for revenge. Plus, Shockercito is one of the rate mini tecnicos who hasn’t been orphaned by it’s larger version, so Damian wants to make sure Shockercito suffers just as much as the rest. Speaking of orphaned minis, Mini Damian 666 says he talked to not-mini Damian 666, who’s still totally okay with him continuing to use the name and is very happy with his wrestling. Damian says everything went great in Japan, and hopes to get to the US next. Damian’s future goals are winning back the minis title, winning the lightweight title, and maybe taking out Saturno just to defeat the son of a maestro.

CMLL (TUE) 05/19 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
7) Hector Garza, Mictlan, Shocker b Averno, Dos Caras Jr., Mephisto

All about Shocker/Dos. Toluca (Diablo Rojo) soccer player Edgar Duenas was on hand to cheer on Dos. I wonder if perhaps the man glimpsed on Ras de Lona is not a new wrestler, but a(nother?) Diablo Rojo player, since they’ve been pushing that connection.

The Gladiatores says it was Gemelo II who lost to Gemelo I last Sunday.

AAA CANTU (MON) 05/18 Arena Cuatro Caminos de Nuevo Laredo [RFC]
3) Aerostar, Crazy Boy, Ultimo Gladiador b Rio Bravo, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana II
4) Charly Manson, El Elegido, Hombre Sin Miedo b Black Abyss, Silver King, Soberdosis
5) May Flowers L Black Mamba, Polvo de Esterllas, Jesse, Yuriko, Pasion Kristal [cage, hair]

Black Mamba took Polvo’s May’s hair.

indy (TUE) 05/19 Arean Coliseo Monterrey [RFC]
1) Tribal b 30-30
2) Pedro Navajas b Pee Wee
3) Dralion & Streeth Boy b Black Mamba & Kaientai
4) Mongol Chino Jr., Silver Star, Tigre Universitario b Angel Blanco Jr., Rey Sagitario, Soberdosis
5) Black Diamond, Caifan Rockero I, Golden Boy b Angel Dorado Jr., Hombre Sin Miedo, Mascara Purpura

Sounda like a good show. Caifan fouled Hombre Sin Miedo for the win.

Psycho Circus: 305 wins.

Negro Casas is still hoping for that singles match with Blue Panther, but doesn’t want do to do hair vs hair because Panther’s hair is (literally) not big enough.

Latin Lover hopes to film a movie this year.

SuperLuchas has a recap of the Sunday GALLI show in Addision.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update from Tuesday and Wednesday, and Robert on CMLL TV 01/26/2008, CadenaTres 01/26/08, 02/01/08.

AAA (TUE) 05/26 Cancha German Evers
1) Astro & Mario Mora vs Loco Gonzalez & Shyru Dragon
2) Joe Lider vs Nicho el Millionario, Cuervo, Black Abyss, Extreme Tiger, Gato Eveready, Relampago, Kempo Dragon [torneo Abismo Negro]
3) Chessman, Konnan, Silver King vs La Parka Jr., Marco Corleone, Silver King

Main event is for control of the building. If Konnan’s side wins, he gets to take over here. They’ve been running Konnan vs the local promoter here for the last great while.

El Hijo del Santo returns to AAA, will wrestle at TripleMania

(Still looking for full results from the taping. But, they might take forever to show up, and this is worth getting up now.)

El Hijo del Santo returned to AAA last night at the Leon TV taping. He’s the third member of AAA’s five man team to battle the Legion at TripleMania, joining La Parka Jr. and Octagon. There had been periodic rumors of Santo going to AAA the last few years – I believe the WON had one a couple weeks ago – but it’s always a big step to do it. Santo’s one of those guys who’d been critical of AAA’s current style in the past, but he also appeared on their TV to do a vignette introducing his son as the (“true”) third generation Santo.

Lucha libre en mexico (via superluchas) has a transcript of Santo’s speech in ring, and In Refroma (via Venom @ El Martinete) caught up with him after the show. The storyline is, as one of the original members of AAA, he’s returned to help get the company back to Antonio Pena’s family. Santo wasn’t on the first shows AAA ran in May of 1992, but started up with them in June and stayed with them thru their early hot period, leaving the company in August of 1995. Santo has worked on AAA spot shows and indy/AAA combo shows, but not been back for TV since.

As for other news we know from the taping: Extreme Tiger, Alex Koslov and Laredo Kid Alan Stone are the finalists in the cruiserweight tournament. AAA’s website continues to say the final will be in Aguascalientes, which is inconsistent with what people heard on the TV show two days ago. I guess we find out in Aguascalientes. Jack Evans appears to have turned tecnico and left the Legion, and Super Fly has not yet made the balancing turn the other way.

04/30: rescheduling, Deportes Martinez, IWRG

Flu updates:
– Rescheduled: The Wagner/Torreon show will occur sometime near the end of May. There’s also plans here for a special series of shows whenever the flu lifts.
– Rescheduled: May 8th AAA show in Colima will now be June 5th. This would seem to mean AAA’s message yesterday that only shows up to the 6th are being affected is wrong.
– No one’s quite sure if today’s kids day show in Zacatecas is affected, but everyone assumes so.

Ovaciones has El Hijo del Santo heading to China for ten days. He also talks about the Deportes Martinez story here.

Also in Ovaciones, IWRG has apparently used this time off to think of dumb ideas: they announced plans for a light heavyweight title. That’s be the sixth different weight division title, plus the Rey del Ring has been defended like a title. They run 3 shows a week, max, and they really need to 10th championship? Perhaps the better move would to take back possession of some they’ve let drift away, and there is also a mention in the article of asking Negro Casas to defend his IWRG Middleweight Title or hand it back to the promotion – it’s been dormant since the IWRG/CMLL falling out. Mistico and Canek also have titles that have long gone dormant.

Blue Demon Jr. has followed Santo to the press to complain about Deportes Martinez. According to Demon, Martinez is saying he owns the right to Demon’s mask, which Demon argues with.

El Manana talks to Laredo Kid about his childhood. Which was about 15 minutes ago.

Kcidis draws Dark Saint and shows you how.

DTU posts a video report from Televisa Monterrey.

There’s a new blog following the Traumas. A fine idea.

01/04: Coliseo, Monterrey, Mistico back to Japan, Lineups

CMLL (SUN) 01/04 Arena Coliseo [Ovaciones]
1) Sensei & Starman b Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Cosmico, Electrico, Mini Fantasy DQ Pequeño Halloween, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Warrior
3) Fabián el Gitano, Máscara Púrpura, Máximo b Bronco III, Skandalo, Vangelis
4) Terrible, Texano Jr., Virus b Mascara Dorada, Sagrado, Valiente
5) Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero b Shocker, Toscano, Volador Jr.

Toscano did not get along with his partners on occasion. Shocker ended up in the main event as part of the Dos Caras shuffle; Sagrado was added to the semimain. Mini rudos got DQed for excessive violence, which won’t be a problem next week.

Ovaciones also includes it’s lucha year in review.

AAA (SUN) 01/04 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC]
1) Baby Fox & Rey Imagen b Jorobados del Mal I & Jorobados del Mal II
2) Ejecutor & Mr. Secuestro b Aguila Extrema & Relampago Azul
3) Tigre Cota b Chris Stone [bull terrier]
4) Kenzo Suzuki, Monje Negro Jr., Tiffany b Dama de Hierro, Mascarita Divina, TDN
5) Rio Bravo & Tito Santana II b La Momia & Virtual X [AAA NORTH TAG]

Poder del Norte retains. We don’t have a title history for this one; should we? I think it’d help out, to clarify the many different names it’s listed under.

Mistico/SportsNavi
Mistico/SportsNavi

NJPW announced Mistico returns to their promotion on 02/15 for a singles match with Mephisto. It’ll be just the one match for now, but they’re building to something here. Judging from the pictures, Mistico was wearing the CMLL Welterweight Championship to the ring, while Averno had his NWA Middleweight Championship. He should’ve brought all three belts!

From Sinola, local wrestler Psicolpe talks about himself and Monster Truck I starting up with AAA. I guess they means a dark match? Psiclope talks about winning the mask of El Hechicero of Tijuana, who’s said to be the brother of Black Abyss.

ESPNDeportes has a blog entry about Hijo del Santo and marketing. In EXOnline, Santo mentions returning to Europe in the summer (perhaps for a russian roulette tournament) and trying to break a Guinness record at the celebration of his father’s passing. It’s sound as if they’re going to try and have the most people ever to draw the same thing (Santo) at the same time, or something along those lines.

Box Y Lucha #2904 has the Zero Hour CMLL Minis Cage match as it’s cover. Stories inside include a story about the Hijos de Pirata Morgan going to the US in March (what month is CHIKARA’s King of Trios? March? Perhaps?), the Traumas noticing everyone who Negro Navarro beats up is taking out on them, and Perro Aguayo Jr. saying they’re not interested in going to AAA. Mascarita Dorada also responds Freelance’s “I’m better” story last week by saying “prove it”, and that needs to happen ASAP.

CMLL (MON) 01/05 Arena Puebla [hugo 999 @ Box Y Lucha]
1) Black Tiger (Puebla), Centella de Oro, Tigre Rojo vs Karisma, Mr. Rafaga, Siki Ozama Jr.
2) Asturiano, Blue Center, Lestat vs Ares, Espiritu Maligno, Fuerza Chicana
3) Loco Max vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus, Skandalo, Valiente, Hijo del Fantasma, Pegasso, Mascara Dorada [ciber]
4) Sangre Azteca vs Mictlán [MEX WELTER]
5) La Sombra, Shocker, Volador Jr. vs Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr.

What we’ve got here is a clever way of putting the same amount of guys on the card but still doing the singles match. This is Arena Puebla’s first discounted show, which means 60 for ringside and down to 25 for the cheapest seats. ($4.42 -> $1.85). I do not possess the burning hatred of Mictlan present in others, but there’s another possible title change that’d be an injustice. Let’s all just hope Sangre is adding another X-ed out picture to his Wall Of Defeated Men this time tomorrow. Second match is a rematch from last week.

CMLL (FRI) 01/09 Arena Mexico
1) Molotov & Starman vs Inquisidor & Pólvora
2) Lluvia, Marcela, Princesa Blanca vs Amapola, Princesa Sujei, Rosa Negra
3) Stuka Jr. vs Euforia [lightning]
4) Mascara Dorada, Máscara Púrpura, Valiente vs Felino, Shigeo Okumura, Virus
5) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara vs Heavy Metal, Terrible, Texano Jr.
6) La Sombra, Místico, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

Obvious statement time: main event could be good. Stuka and Euforia have fought once or twice. The ex-Trios champs continue to team up more after they stopped being champs.

This is the third straight week Okumura’s been in the 3rd from the top. That’s higher than usually and normally indicates there’s a feud I’m overlooking, but these are all different tecnicos than last week.

I didn’t post 2008 records for those with few matches, but Lluvia is currently undefeated in Mexico City. That looks to be over this week. At least Marcela is not (that?) hurt.

CMLL (SUN) 01/11 Arena Mexico
1) Pegasso & Rey Cometa vs Calígula & Méssala
2) Flash & Stuka Jr. vs Euforia & Nosferatu
3) Blue Panther, Mark Corleone, Shocker vs Ephesto, Terrible, Texano Jr.
4) La Sombra, Místico, Volador Jr. vs Black Warrior, Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero
5) Mascarita Dorada vs Pequeño Olímpico, Shockercito, Pequeno Ninja, Tzuki, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pierrothito, Pequeño Warrior, Nino de Acero, Último Dragoncito, Fantasy, Electrico, Cosmico [mask, cage]

Not to be a downer, but are we sure this is a good idea? Minis main eventing a show with a big match is a fine idea (this might be the first one; I hope someone does the research on it – besides me), but I don’t know that an 11 person cage match is really the best way to do it. That’s a lot of people in a little space with nowhere to dive and ropes not working as usual. The best case scenario is the eliminations go fast and the time gets spent on a long one on one sequence to end it. I’ll put the poll up later in the week.

Will Flash & Stuka ever be in a tag match against a team besides Nosferatu & Euforia? Dunno, but this promotion is some kind of loaded when those two matches are you openers.

There’s no offical announcement, but these two cards feel like CMLL’s starting up again.

09/24: Mexico, Todo x el Todo, Sujei vs Goddess

CMLL
CMLL

CMLL (TUE) 09/23 Arena Mexico [notimex, ESTO]
2) Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei b Goddess, Princesa Blanca, Sahori
3) Pierrothito b Mascarita Dorada [MEX LIGHT, torneo, final]
4) Black Warrior, Olímpico, Rey Bucanero b Grey Shadow, Sagrado, Valiente
5) Blue Panther, Marco Corelone, Volador Jr. b Averno, Mephisto, Terrible

Blue Panther wore a t-shirt saying “Gracias por mis 30 años”, which retirement-ish, but everything else sounds like he’s sticking around. Ovaciones has an extended interview with him about the loss. The articles says Panther’s not retiring, though he’s more vague. Corelone beat Terrible for the win, and Terrible wants a hair match.

Warrior beat Sagrado in the semifinal with the new submission he’s been using a lot of late.

Pierrothito won the title with a modified campana. It still seems like this will just be another title for the minis division, which is awesome and deserves many titles (though maybe a tag one would’ve been better), but seeing as Pierrothito is still the best one to take that name from Pierroth, it’d be funny if they just bumped him up to the normal division as Pierroth Jr. to be proud of.

Sahori replaced Marcela, so it must’ve been overconfidence which led to rudas losing in two falls. Goddess used the ropes to pin Sujei in the second. If you think they’re going with feud there, keep on reading.

SoloLuchas passes on the Did Villano IV wrestle in place of Villano V for the pre-injury part of the mask match rumor, suggesting that the Villano who was in the match had a drink spilled on him while on the floor, and we should be able to see that stain still on V5’s gear in the video if no switch was made.

(Reforma via Jazzo) Princesa Sujei is vowing to end Goddess in CMLL. Sujei says she’s ready to fight Goddess in a mask match, beat her decisively, and send her back to Canada to never return. This doesn’t sound like your usual midcard feud: “There are many talents who would like the chance that is being wasted on her […] I want to destroy her because it does not deserve to be here. There’s no point in allowing her to overshadow to work of fellow luchadoras, who climbed into the ring to offer a good show, so I’m going to wreck her until she returns to her country.” That’s a promo! Sujei states she’s far from the only one who feels this way, and the public agrees.

(Reforma via Jazzo) In response, Goddess says she’s not going to leave, she’s going to stay, get better, and take Sujei’s mask first.

Yea, so we’re getting the mask match. And probably soon.

(Reforma via Jazzo – again!) El Hijo del Santo says the next Todo el X Todo show will be in Feburary 2009. It sounds like Santo thinks there’s too much stuff going on, and then they can center it around the anniversary of El Santo’s passing. Hijo del Santo is back in Spain and London next week.

AAA says X-Pac is starting a new faction called D-Generation-Mex. Way to be derivitaive. Now where do they get a fake HHH, a fake Road Dogg, a fake Billy Gunn and a fake Chyna (wait, don’t answer that one.)

SoloLuchas has a bio of Antonio Pena and looks for credit for Perro Aguayo Jr.’s excellent cornerman job.

09/01 (2): GDL, Tijuana, 10 man cage match, CMLL Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 08/26 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Thunder Boy b Milenio
2) Metatron b Güero Loco
3) Pequeño Damian 666 b Bam Bam
4) Atenea & Lady Apache DQ Amapola & Hiroka
5) Damián 666 b Leon Blanco
6) Terrible & Texano Jr. b Rayman & Sagrado [OCCIDENTE TAG]
7) Atlantis & Último Guerrero b Marco Corelone & Sombra

Sombra replaced Mistico, and the rudos snuck in fouls for the win. Perros won clean, tripping up Sagrado on a springboard attempt to get to the finish. Mini Damian not only beat Bam Bam with a Black Hammer, but snuck in the fifth match to foul Leon Blanco and help the larger version win. Amapola got DQed for excessive violence on Lady Apache, which surely hurt their teamwork on Friday.

indy (FRI) 08/29 Auditorio de Tijuana [superluchas]
3) Blue Demon Jr. & El Hijo Del Santo b LA Park & Super Parka

Parkas were out of control in this match, getting DQ for ripping up the tecnicso masks and excessive violence, to the point where the comission warned them they’d stop the match if they didn’t settle down. (Park said something along the lines of not coming to Tijuana to play with dolls.) Tecnicos took in straight falls when Super Parka attacked the ref, allowing Santo to sneak in a foul and take the win. There’s tease of a Santo/Super Parka hair/mask match. Santo took Parka’s mask, back in 2003.

CANCION (SUN) 08/31 Centro de Espectaculos La Cancion de Tutltitlan [superluchas]
1) Anticristo, Excalibur, Toxico b Cerebro Negro, Fantasma de la Ópera, Men
2) Hermano Black Shadow I & Hermano Black Shadow II b Guerrero Siam & Tailandes
3) Super Calo L Intocable and El Fantasma and el Hijo Del Anibal and Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. and Solar I and Dr. Wagner Jr. and Zumbido and Lizmark Jr. and Toscano [cage, hair]

As everyone suspected, Super Calo lost his hair. Intocable winning it is no shocker either. They ran an angle where Zumbido hit both guys with a chair being the second to last guy out, so I guess there’s a feud here somewhere.

Sololuchas has full results of the AULL show.

CMLL (FRI) 09/05 Arena Mexico
1) Angel de Oro, Flash, Stuka Jr. vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Skandalo
2) Máximo, Metalik, Valiente vs Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca, Virus
3) La Máscara, Mictlán, Sagrado vs Damián 666, Dragon Rojo Jr., Mr. Águila
4) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Marco Corelone vs Atlantis, Lizmark Jr., Último Guerrero
5) Dos Caras Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr., Volador Jr. vs Heavy Metal, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

don’t they need to announce Wagner/Niebla for the masks ASAP if they’re going to do it? They keep hinting in that direction.

Even more Mictlan/Dragon Rojo. Even more UG/Blue Panther. Panther/UG would obviously mean more in a mask match, but I don’t think UG/V5/Panther would mean significantly more since no one’s going to believe Ultimo Guerero is losing his mask to one of those two.

CMLL (SUN) 09/07 Arena Coliseo
1) Astro Boy & Sombra de Plata vs Cholo & Soberano
2) Fabián el Gitano, Máscara Púrpura, Tony Rivera vs Halcon Negro, Loco Max, Nitro
3) Amapola vs Lady Apache [CMLL WOMEN]
4) Grey Shadow, La Máscara, Sagrado vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Rey Bucanero, Sangre Azteca
5) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Volador Jr. vs Atlantis, Black Warrior, Último Guerrero

Lot ‘o Guerreros.

For some reason, I thought Lady Apache already won this title. That certainly makes the finish on Friday make more sense to me. The question now is, is Apache getting the hair and the belt or was this a 50/50 split?

Maybe someone thought “you know what, we really need another guy for this Tuareg group to really put them over the top (in the segundas). Anyone have Halcon Negro’s number?” Let’s go with that.

Of course, this real news is Cholo appearing. I don’t like his shot at getting his first win. Soberano appears to have shortening his name.

Juvi was interviews on the uh, an audio show who’s name isn’t specifically mentioned on the F4 recap nor is a link given, oops and says he’d like to get in CMLL. I’d like to be President. (No, I wouldn’t.)

They’re writing as many stories in Spain after the CMLL Spain tour as they were during it.

Luchaworld has Robert on ’05 IWRG, ACM and AAA TV

3 hours of AAA TV is like watching a weekly house show… it’s so fantastic. I can’t even begin to imagine how amazing CMLL would be with a weekly 3 hour time slot covering a match from Arena Coliseo and the entire Arena Mexico show.

Things change!
