Puebla: Terrible keeps the heavyweight title, Guerrero Negro knocked out

CMLL (MON) 01/07/2013 Arena Puebla [CMLL, Porra Fresa]
1) Asturiano & Milenium b Espiritu Maligno & Fuerza Chicana
Tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Höruz, Robin, Sensei DQ Espanto Jr., Guerrero Negro Jr., Zayco
Straight falls. Guerrero Negro Jr. landed a top rope senton on Horuz in the second, but knocked himself out. Zayco signalled for medical help right away. Negro recovered and was strechered out, while the rudos were DQed for excessive violence to end the match.
3) Hijo del Signo b Stigma [lightning]
Signo used the ropes to pin Stimga in 7:27.
4) Namajague, Shigeo Okumura, Virus b Fuego, Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr.
Fuego & Stuka attacked Okumura before he got to the ring. Rudos still took 1/3. Arena Coliseo Tag feud again?
5) Blue Panther, Shocker, Super Porky b Kráneo, Mr. Águila, Psicosis
Tecnicos took 1/3, Shocker beating Aguila while Panther submitted Kraneo. Shocker demanded a national trios title champ.
6) Terrible b Diamante Azul [CMLL HEAVY]
Terrible came in as champ. Referee was Tirantes, who annoyed Azul during the match. Azul won the first with la de a caballo, Terrible took the second and the third.

Fifth defense for Terrible.

No update on Guerrero Negro Jr. and no lineup for next week (as of whenever I wrote this.)

Ultimo Guerrero keeps his title

5) Último Guerrero b La Sombra [CMLL HEAVY]

10/03 overnight update

Dos Caras Jr. to WWE

Dos Caras Jr. expects to sign with WWE tomorrow or Saturday, and he’s got no problem ripping CMLL on the way out the door.

If you recall, back when this story first broke, it was right before CMLL announced the CMLL Spain tour. At the time, Dos intimated the news getting out had caused some issues in his relationship Paco Alonso and CMLL Management. Turns out, once CMLL found out Dos was talking with WWE, the relationship was done. Dos stuck around to work out the rest of his contracted dates, but it sounds like there were very hurt feelings on both sides. Dos rips management without really being specific, saying they’re “doing bad things” (poor communication seems to be an issue), blaming CMLL for general discontent with the locker room.

Dos makes it clear that he fully planned on leaving the CMLL Heavyweight Title with CMLL on his way out, because it’s their title. It doesn’t sound CMLL was particularly interested in getting it back, or having him drop it in a title. “CMLL has no rivals for me to defend this belt.” I don’t think he’s saying no one in CMLL is on his level, it’s that CMLL hasn’t had any challenge him.

Dos is looking at doing farewell to Mexico shows in Tijuana and SLP. He’s done in Arena Mexico. No start date for WWE is mentioned, and it’s still impossible to figure.

A couple points to make
– Sicodelico Jr.’s almost positively going to CMLL as well.
– doesn’t sound CMLL made any attempt to keep him
– if CMLL knew Dos was going, why did they give him a spot on the anniversary show? That seems extremely dumb, there surely would’ve been someone else thrilled to have the spot.
– I think the Lizmark/Corelone feud was planned to have a hair match blowoff – it seems headed that way, and it seems like there’s people booking for the own day of the week shows without any knowledge of what else is going with only occasional oversight or communication – but they might as well might that title match then doing a pointless tournament. The belt means zero right now, don’t waste time on deciding a new champ.

Of course, Dos might not be the only done here…

AAA teases a CMLL jump

Just in case they remove it, here’s the poll currently on AAA’s site:

luchalibreaaa.com
luchalibreaaa.com

They’re asking which one of these guys will be the big surprise on AAA’s show this Sunday. They can worm out of it or even just ignore it later, but at the moment, they’re pretty much saying one of these four guys is showing up at the TV taping.

why it won’t be them:
– Tarzan Boy and Shocker are currently independent guys, but both who’ve expressed a strong desire to return to CMLL. Shocker’s said as much in the last week.
– Olimpico and Rey Bucanero are working for CMLL; there’s no telling if they’re actually under a contracted, but they surely have contracted dates.

why it will be them:
– Tarzan’s been on the outside a long time and probably could use the steady employment. Shocker didn’t say he wouldn’t go back to AAA when he asked.
– Rey Bucanero has been the subject of quite a few AAA jump rumors since his tecnico turn
– Olimpico was ticked to be off the anniversary show

where they’re supposed to be on Sunday
– Olimpico is part of a tag tourny in GDL
– Shocker headlines the Scorpio benefit show at Arena Emilano Zapata
– Rey Bucanero wrestled last Sunday, and has no known future matches. Doesn’t mean he’s absolutely not working, just not in a show that’s on our radar. (Odd factoid: he’s only worked Coliseo, Mexico and Puebla this month, so he may not be working small shows.)
– Tarzan works the NWA Mexico show on Saturday, but has nothing for Sunday.

what impact they’d make
– Olimpico: little. Taking Niebla’s role is probably the best to hope for, and can’t imagine him as a tecnico
– Rey Bucanero: moderate, depending on how quick they lose interest
– Tarzan Boy: same – can’t seem to find much to do with Alan Stone, what are they going to do with an older version one the jump wears off?
– Shocker: moderate, because it’d be hard to trust him at this point

If I had to pick any of them, I’d guess Tarzan Boy because he’s probably given up on waiting for CMLL. But, my real pick is none of the above. It might be some other outsider (surprised they didn’t throw in Black Warrior, though a ex-WWE to capitalize on RAW moving in would make more sense), but I think this is mostly done to cause rumors, speculation, and discontent inside of CMLL. It’ll be the buzz of the internet and people will be ticked if it’s not a jump, but this is going be something much more known to people inside the business than the average fan watching AAA when this taping airs next weekend. The speculation isn’t going sell tickets or increase ratings, but it’s going to tick off CMLL and AAA’s always counting that as a win.

This is also a brilliant way to take the spotlight off AAA acknowledging their timeslot is being moved and cut. And this sucks for the guys named who aren’t jumping.

Let’s take a moment to note how hilarious/CMLL-rific it would be for Bucanero to jump, and CMLL to lose it’s Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight champion in one weekend. If I had any faith in NWA Mexico to do better, forget the idea I suggest yesterday afternoon – they should just point out how much a joke titles are in CMLL, how titles go seasons (or years!) without being defending, say they’re not champions worth recognizing, and move on.

CMLL puts date to Goddess/Princesa Sujei mask match

CMLL (TUE) 10/07 Arena Mexico [the Punisher Wagner @ el Martinete]
1) Apocalipsis & Ramstein vs Angel de Oro & Astro Boy
2) Hijo del Faraon, Metálico, Tigre Blanco vs Bronco III, Euforia, Nosferatu
3) Ephesto, Misterioso II, Vangelis vs Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, La Sombra
4) Goddess vs Princesa Sujei [mask]
5) Heavy Metal, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas vs Blue Panther, Dr. Wagner Jr., Héctor Garza

This is CMLL’s first Tuesday show of the month, so it’ll be a discount show. That’s also probably why the mask match is happening this week as well as the other better than usual matches. CMLL determines success by the number of people in Arena Mexico seats; even with as underpaid the guys are, this particular show surely can not be making them money, but if it looks decent for once they’ll probably be happy.

I feel pretty safe picking Sujei. Well, I’d feel pretty safe picking Sujei, because having Goddess beating Sujei would make as much sense as Villano V beating Blue Panther and we sure found that one out.

Regardless, this probably isn’t the losers farewell – Diana la Cazadora worked the next week and twice more after her hair match. Even if Goddess is headed back to Canada, they’ll surely keep her around for a week so everyone can see her unmasked.

07/08: Coliseo, Konnan, Monterrey, Merida

CMLL/seeing is believing

CMLL (SUN) 07/08 Arena Coliseo [Alvin @ el Martinete, Ovaciones, CMLL]
1) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II b Caligula & Messala
2) Bam Bam, Pequeno Olimpico, Ultimo Dragoncito DQ Mr. Aguilita, Pequeno Damian 666, Pequeno Halloween
3) Leono, Sagrado, Tony Rivera b Eclipse, Misterioso II, Okumura
4) Mascara Ano 2000, Sangre Azteca, Ultimo Guerrero b Alex Koslov, Marco Corelone, Volador Jr.
5) Dos Caras Jr. b Universo 2000 [CMLL HEAVY]

Dos won clean. He actually tried for the press slam into a German suplex, but that wasn’t happening on Universo. He got a small package instead. The idea is the Heavyweight title is the missing piece to turn Dos from a top guy to a top guy people actually pay to see. That would be nice, but I see a couple problems here

– this is a Coliseo feud, taking place on FSLatin America in Mexico. I dunno ratings in Mexico, but it seems like only a fraction of the audience that watches the main show (much more accessible) would see this. If you really wanted to make this mean something, you do in Arena Mexico, you do it on the main TV show, and you do it on Friday so it makes all the lucha magazines this week. Unless they spoiled the finish to the magazines to get them to hype it, this won’t be covered till next week, right as they’re selling TripleMania coverage

– As sarcastically pointed out in the comments and assuming they follow up on this (and they should), who could Dos Jr. wrestle that would actually be interesting? Universo again? No. (though we’ll get some of that, and this match was said to be better than expected.) Lizmark Jr.? No (though we’ll surely get some of that.) Eclipse? (Gosh no.) Corelone’s a tecnico, thankfully.

There’s a big hole in Mexico where good heavyweights should be (though that problem seems to be global for wrestling.) They could always have Light Heavy type rudos wrestle Dos, but there doesn’t seem to be any obvious Step 2 to this plan.

In the minis match, Damian fouled Bam Bam. Usually challenges after the match, nothing agreed to. He got a small package instead. The show drew close to a sell out.

Some notes from Konnan on last night’s Wrestling Observer Live, as mentioned in the comments. Much of the show as Chris Benoit and other talk. Very little on TripleMania itself – they ran over a list of US guys expected in, and most of the rest of the AAA talk wasn’t event specific.

– The Planned US Expansion continues on…being planned. Usual bit about being an untapped market, drawing well for other promoters even who don’t have AAA’s sensibilities. They plan to have 4 US PPVs in ’08, which I took to mean Rey de Reyes/TripleMania/Verano de Escandalo/Guerra de Tiantes rather than them running shows in the US that air on PPV.

AAA plans on doing shows in the US in ’08. The guy who got them on the Warped Tour is going to be promoter for the US shows. The idea of the Warped Tour is just to get their name out there. AAA may end up creating a splinter promotion for the US shows, depending on regulation issues, but the same people (Konnan) would be in charge.

– Konnan talked highly of Dorian Roldan, making the transition from a college student who came to AAA shows and work concessions to a workaholic who has a hand in the storylines. Konnan said something like “now we have storylines, we used to just have a lot of run-ins”, which made me laugh out loud. It’s totally true.

– Konnan likes what they’re doing now – he cited the Air Force members by individual names and he likes the Hell Brothers as a group, but wants to continue improving. Production is emphasized, as always. (There’s more he said here, but I want to relisten to it to get it right before committing to it.)

Based on his comments during another part of the show, I think you’ll see AAA bring in some US indy guys/(gals?). He’d for sure bring in some TNA guys if they were freed from the their TNA contracts. Konnan is actually still under TNA contract for a year, but he figures as long as he doesn’t wrestle in the US, it’s not worth TNA’s time to fight him about it.

– Rikishi and Black Pearl are confirmed for coming in for TripleMania

– Abismo & Niebla were off TV due to rehab.

– Octagon showed up to a TV taping drunk, and Konnan took him off TV as punishment. That’s how we’ve ended up with Juvi/Fuerza.

– Konnan’s kidney surgery will not be until after TripleMania (and the Leon taping), assuming his donor matches him. He wanted to do it this week, but AAA asked for him to be around for TripleMania. He’s going to be in the hospital for three weeks, and then new a couple weeks after that to get in shape, but hopes to be in the ring soon after. (That would be – late August/September?)

Konnan figures the tecnicos will get a huge reaction when they finally get him to take a bump. I think the tecnicos will get a big reaction, but it’s more because he’s a star and he hasn’t taken a bump in a while. Konnan’s interfered a lot and the tencicos haven’t got anything back on them, but Konnan’s interference is always when all the rudos are beating up all the tecnicos – it never changes the match, and gets lost in the fifteen other things going on. But we’ll see how it plays out.

4) Averno & Mephisto b Hijo de Solitario & La Mascara

2) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Sangre Azteca vs El Camaleon, Hijo de Rey Misterio, Rey Misterio

El Sol de Tlaxcala has a brief preview of the 07/28 taping. Not much more than Mesias and Cibernetico will be fighting (like every show) and Tinieblas Jr., Zorro, Intocable, and La Parka Jr. will appear.

Super Luchas #220 has the WWE tour.

Team Skayde In Japan, DAY 1 (07/08 Dragon Gate Arena) – via DGUSA
1) Super Shisa (Pentagon Black), Jorge Rivera (Skayde) b The Tuborman (Turbo), Shisa Boy
4) Naruki Doi, Black Thunder b Tozawa, Matt Sydal

Should I know who Shisa Boy is? I think I’m supposed to. Slippin’.

I swore I saw Toryumon Mexico results, but I can’t remember where. Maybe I’m just thinking of Black Terry’s video.

07/02: Quereatro, Solidaridad, AULL, Coliseo, Nicho

Viva La Lucha (SAT) 06/30 Southwestern College Gym, Chula Vista, CA [So Cal Uncensored]

4) Maximo & Sagrado DQ Mascara Ano 2000 & Universo 2000
5) Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone, Rey Bucanero b Atlantis, Olimpico, Ultimo Guerrero

This is the Signo tribute show, and pretty well shuffled from what was originally announced. There were matches before these, but no results and they didn’t match original listings. Later in the thread, someone mentions India Sioux appeared but didn’t wrestle due to a (broken?) nose operation.

CMLL (SUN) 07/01 Arena Coliseo [ova]
1) Astro Boy & Trueno b Carrona & Zayco
2) Euforia, Nosferatu, Satanico b Felino, La Mascara, Valiente
3) Bam Bam, Shockercito, Fantasy b Mr. Aguilita, Pequeno Damian, Pequeno Halloween
4) Alex Koslov, Heavy Metal, Volador Jr. b Atlantis, Olimpico, Sangre Azteca
5) Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone, Rey Bucanero b Toscano, Ultimo Guerrero, Universo 2000

Dos pinned Universo clean in the main event, which does set up a title match next week. I’m far less believing of a title change than Bihari. I can’t believe Universo will actually lose this title til five minutes after it happens. (I can’t believe Universo still has the phyiscal belt either, so maybe I’m just a skeptic. Or maybe there will be panicked cleaning at the ranch this week.)

Fantasy replaced Shockercito in the minis match, which was bumped up to tercera.

Tracking the minis…
06/24 SUN Coliseo: 2) Mr. Aguilita, Pequeo Damian 666, Pequeo Halloween b Bam Bam, Pequeo Olmpico, ltimo Dragoncito
07/01 SUN Coliseo: 3) Bam Bam, Shockercito, Fantasy b Mr. Aguilita, Pequeo Damian 666, Pequeno Halloween
07/08 SUN Coliseo: 2) Ultimo Dragoncito, Pequeno Olimpico, Bam Bam vs Pequeno Halloween, Pequeno Damian 666, Mr. Aguilita

Bam Bam is the only constant on the tecnico side, though Olimpico and Dragoncito are showing up twice.

About five months late, CMLL tickets are on TicketMaster. (Assist to Wagner_Driver @ box y lucha.) Only for this Friday’s show. It looks like they’re not offering all the seats – the cheapest seats don’t appear to be listed.

AAA’s upcoming cards list Abismo Negro on a 07/28 show. Typo?

Zocalo.com.mx has a really good interview with Nicho, about his life in wrestling. He talks about WWE a bit, but also about the start of his career – Pena gave him the Psicosis name, but the gear actually came from a friend who didn’t get picked up by AAA and so couldn’t use it, and it just happened to work out beautifully.

Both Box Y Lucha 2825 and Super Luchas 219 have Chris Benoit on the cover. ByL teases Big Show in Mexico, which I would presume to be the TripleMania rumor.

Sicodelico Jr. moved onto the second round in the NWA World Heavyweight Championship tournament, beating Roughneck Ryan. He moves onto the quarterfinals to face Claudio Castignoli. Logically enough, that match will take place at a CHIKARA show on 07/21 in Wallingford, CT.

Before that match, Sicodelico Jr. will team with Incognito in a triangle match for the NWA World Tag Team Titles. The other two teams are Billy Kidman & X-Pac and Joey Ryan & Karl Anderson (who would seem to be the safe bet.)

Noticas-Oax.com.mx writes about lucha libre stars making the jump to other TV work (mentioning Mistico, Latin, Demon and Intocable.)

SLP indy wrestler El Divino suffered a bad leg fracture, and will be out around six months. BTW, here’s your daily SLP AAA article, this time about Gronda.

Another El Sol de Tampico article about the Atlantis vs Wagner vs Park show there tomorrow.

Auburn Journal talks to Shane Hanson, who claims to have been wrestling as El Gran Fangoria for 15 years. (Thanks to mikeinformer)
