03/22: IWRG, Toreo, Mistico, Wagner, Juvi, Dos Leyenda, lineups

IWRG (SAT) 03/14 Arena Xochimilco [SuperLuchas #307]
1) Mixteco Jr. b Goleador
2) Galactik & Miss Gaviota b Avisman & Vampiro Metalico
3) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro b Multifacetico, Trauma I, Trauma II
4) Solar I, Super Astro, Ultraman Jr. DQ Arlequin, Hijo de Pierroth (IWRG), Pierroth II
5) Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. b Scorpio Jr. [Rey del Ring]

New champ. Scorpio had MA2K Jr. done in a half crab, but both he and the refree were distracted by Hijo de Pierroth (Mascara’s second) beating up Multifacetico (Scorpio’s second) on the outside. Scropio let go, Mascara snuck in a foul and pinned him for the win. DQ in the semimain was for Pierroth II yanking Solar’s mask.

El Toreo (WED) 03/18 Arena Lopez Mateos [SuperLuchas #307]
1) Sombra Escarlata & Spider Boy b Mr. Flama & Sol de Oriente
2) Azabache Negro, Rey Cobra, Sismo b Black Man II, Falcon, Flecha (Skayde)
3) Romano Garcia b Danny Boy [hair]
4) Robin Hood Jr. & Super Panda b Epitafio & Terry 2000
5) Canek b Cibernetico [#1 Contenders, UWA HEAVY]
6) Dos Caras Sr., Killer Jr., Sicodelico Sr. DQ Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V

Mil was supposed to be in the main event, but was angry about something – I think the article says about not being in the main event, which doens’t make sense – and walked out of the building before his match (walking in front of the crowd to make sure they knew he showed.) Doesn’t look like this bit is drawing sell outs any more, at least not this night. Villano V yanked Dos’ mask for a DQ.

It took Cibernetico being accidentally hit by his second (Killer Jr.) and being fouled by Canek for him to lose here. That’s actually not as much as I’d thought.

Again, fighting between the seconds (Robin Hood Jr. and Rocky Santana) allowed Romano to sneak in a piledriver on Danny Boy for the win.

SuperLuchas #307 also has a big interview with Mistico. Besides the usual “I’d like to face whoever win the mask match” bit, Mistico also notes that when he was in Japan and CMLL did a Sombra/Volador vs Averno/Mephisto tag title match, it was a poor house. Mistico wants more people to be stars, but feels he should get more credit for how much he means and how hard he works. Mistico feels like he’s winning the crowd back little by little this year (though that didn’t seem to be case Friday night.) This interview is totally worth going out of you way to read for yourself.

IWRG (THU) 03/19 Arena Naucalpan
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Fuerza Guerrera, Zatura b Hijo de Pierroth (IWRG), Mascara ANo 2000 Jr., Oficial 911

Give him credit – Dr. Wagner indeed made this show. The usual trend for guys who join one of the big 2 is to promise they’ll still be doing all their independent bookings when the press is there, and then quickly bail on them. (Silver King and Super Porky come to mind.) Lots of respect for Wagner if he’s breaking that tend.

Coincidentally, Wagnermania has Wagner cutting a promo on website commenters critical of him joining AAA. Dr. Wagner Jr. is a YouTube shooter, which can only mean the world is coming to an end. The Gladiatores have their own interview with Dr. Wagner about current effects.

Didn’t occur to me last night, but there was no Wagner angle on Friday’s AAA taping despite one being obviously set up in Madero. AAA is now listing Wagner’s self promoted shows, which are now using AAA talent.

The other news not exactly mentioned on luchalibreaaa.com is a backstage incident with Juvi, at least if you’re willing to believe his story in Record. “The leader of the Mexican Powers” (that’s what the article says) tells Record that he went out for his match, and came back to find his bag filled with human waste. Juvi went to Jack Evans to accuse him of doing it, when Konnan attacked him and Jack joined in. Juvi claims he’s got a broken nose, and bruises on his face and body.

This is surely the same story Lizzy Valentine is referring to on her mySpace page when talking about leaving AAA. This is also all Juvi’s side of the story, and his history of telling tall tales makes it really hard to take anything he says at face value – there’s definitely more going on here. (FWIW, Jack was in Juvi’s match, and still in the ring when Juvi escaped the cage, so Juvi really could really stand to improve his sleuthing abilities.)

However, the general public (and the press) are probably going to be unaware of Juvi’s history and this story looks really bad for AAA if it gets picked up in more places. It really depends on how far the story gets, but it’s tough to spin the leader of the wrestlers taking part in a two on one mugging and there’s probably some public punishment coming if this gets taken seriously. Also, whomever gave to okay to hire Juvi back inside the company (not Konnan!) is probably not too thrilled with it going so bad so quick.

Short term, Juvi’s done in AAA. I’d assume Ultimo Gladiador takes his spot in the cruiserweight tournament. Ultimo Gladiador seems to be a good dude, but no one’s been as quite as fortunate with absences as he has in AAA – he got started their with Crazy Boy’s injury and has gotten to hang around and better spots because of Juvi’s flakiness (and Super Crazy not coming in.)

Dos Leyenda follow up stories:

Villano V says he never even considered he was going to lose, and was hoping to main event a third straight anniversary show. He vows to continue fighting.

Ultimo Guerrero wants Villano IV to finish the Villanos off. UG credits Blue Panther with coming up with the idea to use the toque universal to pin Villano in the end, and goes as far as dedicating the win to Panther.

– ESPNDeportes restates the point that Villano IV is and will be the last masked Villano standing; they’ve told their sons to create their identities and not take their names (just as they did with their father Ray Mendoza), so there’ll be no Villano VI coming.

– Televisa Deportes picture comes along with tons of pictures

– I was wrong – Accion indeed has video of this match tonight. If ever one needed to understand the difference between the two promotions, this was a good two minutes for you – CMLL had a huge match decided by an abdominal stretch cradle, and this was followed by Chessman/Mesias in a cage using light tubes, and walking above the cage on barbed wire cords. Are they really both promoting the same lucha libre?

Box Y Lucha posted a truck load of articles Friday morning, none of which I saw until much later because Google Reader decided not to show new articles in half my feeds. (I think I fixed it, but who knows. As always, if I miss something worth reading, let me know.) There’s so many of them, I’m not going to write as much about them, but that doesn’t mean they’re not interesting.

They’ve got La Parka Jr. telling LA Park to get over it already and complaining about not being nominated for the the Televisa luchador award (he thought the idea was for the nominees to just be Mexican)

Dos Caras Jr. explaining his teased rudo turn was resolved off camera (everyone’s friends again, hooray), Axel talking the end of his CMLL sting much like in his SuperLuchas interview, Dark Angel talking about her trip to Japan (and not TNA, yet), Star Fire talking about her short career so far (totally wins me over in one interview, I’m a sucker), Sombrita and Mascara Dorada talking about the Puebla cage match, and Juanito Diaz, lightweight champion of the 60s. There’s also columns on Solar/Negro Navarro, Villano III on backstage fights (how timely!) and history pieces on Angel Azteca. Plus, a couple look back at Ultimo Guerrero‘s career, as if teasing a major change this past Friday.

An editoral in El Siglo de Torreon complains about the quality of libre referring. For some odd reason, they don’t think referee Viruta getting caught in the moment and doing a top rope plancha onto the wrestlers shows much impartiality.

LuchaWorld has Robert on the 12/08-9 and 12/15-16 CMLL MVS Shows, as well as KrisZ‘s news update.

Lineups

IWRG (THU) 03/26 Arena Naucalpan
1) Garra de Aguila vs Keshin Black
2) Galactik & Mascara Magnifica vs Carta Brava Jr. & Mixteco Jr.
3) Fantastik, Freelance, Turbo vs Black Terry, BLack Thunder, Capitan Muerte
4) Head Hunter I, Head Hunter II, Veneno vs Arlequin, Hijo de Pierroth (IWRG), Pierroth II
5) Fuerza Guerrera vs Oficial 911 [IWRG IC WELTER]

911 lost, will get a title shot. OKAY. Turbo and Black Thunder appear to have become regulars here (as much as anyone who’s not a core guy is a regular.)

IWRG (SAT) 03/28 Arena Xochimilco
1) Garra de Aguila vs Comando Negro
2) Eragon & Latin Brother vs Carta Brava Jr. & Vampiro Metalico
3) Mascarita Sagrada & Octagoncito I vs Espectrito de Ultratumba & Piratita Morgan
4) Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II vs Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. & Universo 2000 vs Hijo de Pierroth (IWRG) & Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. [relevos sucidas]
6) ? vs ?? [mask]

Actually, I’m taking a leap and assuming they’re doing the final on this show, but the tag match is solicated as a relevos suicidas. Pretty clear favorite to lose of the four.

CMLL (SUN) 03/29 Arena Coliseo
1) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II vs Cholo & Zayco
2) Dark Angel, Marcela, Sahori vs Amapola, Princesa Sujei, Rosa Negra
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Mictlan, Sagrado vs Ephesto, Lizmark Jr., Terrible
4) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Mistico vs Heavy Metal, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Been racking my brain all day, trying to figure out what the bonus match is. There’s no feud that I can think of – the show two weeks ago has little to do wtih the today’s show (thanks to all the subs.) One of Bam Bam, Pierrothito, Sombra or Sangre Azteca is probably defending their title here, if it’s at all being set up tonight. Feels like it could just be a typo.

CHOLO! Getting worried about him for a bit. Speaking of MIA guys, anyone seen Mascara Purpura lately? No matches in the last month, since the lightning match in Puebla.

CMLL (SUN) 03/29 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Katana & Malefico vs Angel del Mal & Infierno [Torneo Tanque Dantes]
2) Palacio Negro & Samurai vs Leon Blanco & Thunder Boy [Torneo Tanque Dantes]
3) Boomerang & Gallo vs Acertijo & Mr. Trueno [Torneo Tanque Dantes]
4) Maximo, Sagrado, Valiente vs Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca
5) a replacement for Toscano, Hector Garza, Shocker vs Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Ultimo Guerrero

Toscano’s booked like normal this week, but can’t make any of those shows. Warrior continues to work in GDL. That’s round 4 of the torneo, and I’m sure I’ll do a breakdown of the tournament later (so you know there’s a post coming to skip.)

03/06: Cibernetico, Monterrey, IWRG

The big lucha story out of this past week’s Wrestling Observer is the ever changing status of Cibernetico. As everyone figured, he was the planned mystery partner for Charly Manson at Rey de Reyes and was actually supposed to come back this past weekend as the mystery partner at the Cuernavaca show (which also helps explain the Vampiro non-wrestling bit. This is all past tense, because Cibernetico decided to hold up AAA for a pay raise on his return. (If nothing else, Cibernetico has some guts.) AAA realized their business was still doing fine with Cibernetico, and everyone was happier in the locker room without Cibernetico and decided to turn Cibernetico down. There’s still plenty of time for things to change for Rey de Reyes but AAA’s probably already made alternate plans.

AAA (SUN) 03/01 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC]
1) Guerrero Blanco & Invasor b Diabolik & Thunder Brother
2) Fabi Apache & Mari Apache b Cinthia Moreno & Tiffany
3) La Momia & Virtual X b Ejecutor & Mr. Secuestro [AAA NORTH TAG]
4) Histeria & Monje Negro Jr. b Aguila Extrema & TDN
5) Pirata Morgan & Silver King b Alan Stone & Pimpinela Escarlata

Champs retain.

IWRG (THU) 03/05 Arena Naucalpan [Al Filo del Ring]
3) Solar I, Super Astro, Ultraman Jr. b Pierroth II, Tetsuya Bushi, Toxico DF
4) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Emilio Charles Jr., Fuerza Guerrera, Scorpio Jr.

Main event is kinda of an upset. For all the Oficial wins, they don’t usually get to beat the top older national guys, and Emilio beating knocked out during the match helped here. Challenges all around after the main event.

Today’s Arena Mexico preview: Ovaciones, ESTO – just killing time until the 20th, with half the roster over in Puebla for that show. Weird we have Blue Panther and Atlantis teaming and no one really notices.

Hablando de Catch has photos of Solar vs Negro Navarro from Arena Coliseo

Box Y Lucha Articles
Gato Eveready on his first year in AAA. They give his start as February 10, though the gimmick actually started on 11/19/07 and the current guy under the mask probably didn’t get started until June 1st. Anyway, Gato talks about wrestling for 10 years and having no idea what the actual agreement between AAA and Eveready is and how long it lasts.
– Box Y Lucha talks to Queretaro promoter Carlos Maynes about El Rey losing his mask, since Martha Villalobos was angry with someone else using a name one of her wrestlers was using. The article really doesn’t get around to that issue, with Maynes just pointing out Mr. Mexico had been unmasked for 9 years and so was allowed to remask. (Maynes quotes the rule as an unmasked wrestler must stay that way for 1 year – the rulebooks I’ve seen have that for a longer period, but Mr. Mexico would still be okay.)
Mr. Niebla explains his car accident – he hit one car, swerved out of control, and crashed into a bus. Car’s totaled. Niebla seems pretty upbeat about it.
Wagner says he’s not locking into any company, still, and teases a mask match with Park later this year. It’s going to be a long year.
LA Park says the battle for the La Parka name/look is still in the courts and he may win yet, so that’s why he’s going back to the old suit on the independents. I believe either he’s only prohibited from using the old look on TV, or AAA only cares enough to enforce it in those situations, so he’s free to wear what he wants outside of CMLL and that’s where he is right now. LA Park accuses AAA of fixing the Televisa voting buying votes so La Parka Jr. could win in past years. They’re click polls, it’s not even that hard to manipulate.

Universal has an interview with Terror Negro, Sobredosis, and Skullman, who are running Arena Emiliano Zapata under the IWG name. What does IWG stand for? “Indy Wrestling Group”. They’ve been running a tournament for a light heavyweight title of late with AAA guys on top. There’s a short article about this on Ovaciones, and I know El Pancracio covers that building, but I forgot to check their site for new editions.

LuchandoLibre’s recap of AAA’s taping has a bloody picture of Roldan, who must’ve gotten quite the beating to end that show. They also preview the EAW show.

The Queremos machos no mamadas, a documentary on luchadors focusing on CMLL wrestlers (and maybe filmed last year based on the names) sounds really good. It aired in Puebla on Monday as part of the festive there. I think they may have to change the name (or at least the English translation) if it ever made it to the US.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update, and Robert on ACM from 03/30/03 and 03/11/07.

12/22 (2): Santo, Sombra, Box Y Lucha, Mistico, Cibernetico, Laredo Kid, Lady Rabbit, lineup

El Hijo del Santo did an autograph signing at his cafe/souvenir shop, and there was a big turnout.

Kid Azteca was the winner of the fifth annual Gomez Palacio Luchador 5K race. Kid Azteca was the fastest and took the 80 kg and under division, with Nieto del Hungaro & Cabllero Halcon Jr in 2nd and 3rd. Super Leopardo took the 80-100 kg division, ahead of his brother Super Star. In the over 100 kg class, Psycho I and Psycho II finished that order. La Sombra won the first three years of this race, but is a bit busy now. Also yesterday, Blue Panther recieved his plaque for being a Distguised Citzen from this same city.

Going back to Sombra for a second – I noted a while back Sombra’s mask reminded me of Oro’s. They have similar styles, and they both won an NWA title at a very young age. El Universal talks to Sombra about the comparisons, and reveals the reason for his name. When Brillante came to Mexico City to train, noting his gear and style was similar, like Brillante was Oro’s spirit or Oro’s shadow. Brillante liked the idea of being called “Sombra”, so it stuck.

And now the Box Y Lucha massive link dump! I really like the new design, though I wish they still had all the old covers up. And I need to mess with Yahoo Pipes to get a master RSS feed at some point.

Mistico blames his tag team title loss on Hector Garza’s knee; Mistico says Garza came from knee surgery and wasn’t 100% percent. (Which would also explain where Garza’s been lately, though you’d think he’d have the knee surgery after the last big match rather than right before it.) Don’t look for a rematch, as Mistico says he doesn’t trust Garza because he’s still an ex-Perro. Mistico notes he successfully defended his CMLL World Welterweight Title over Negro Casas next week which proves that, in lucha libre, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Mistico also says whomever said he was complaining about working too much was lying, he’s fine with CMLL’s schedule for him. (Who DID say that? I can not recall.)

Terrible has no recollection of any foul that won him the Leyenda de Azul. “To the all the fans who booed me because they believe there was a foul, I only tell you that you need to learn to lose!” Fair enough!

– This interview with Dragon Rojo Jr. from after he won the #1 contenders Cibernetico two Tuesdays ago is a little outdated in newsworthyness, but it gives you a really good look at Rojo’s altered mask design. It works it a Diamante Negro logo in the forehead and the side flames are now smaller and angled more towards the back.

– In an interview from Guerra de Titanes, Charly Manson said he planned to debut on the first TV taping of January, but Chessman jumping him has made that impossible. There are other AAA interviews from this period with not enough new info worth linking to, but a common theme is everyone being asked about Cibernetico, and everyone being positive about him. It’s very professional.

– Contrast: From back on the Perros del Mal debut press conference, Cibernetico calls Konnan and Vampiro cancers, and I can’t recall if I’ve seen that quote before. From Cibernetico, I mean, I’m pretty sure it’s been in the comments. Cibernetico also says, since there’s now 20-30 foreign wrestlers around, someone should start a company of foreign wrestlers, and hopefully have them leave AAA.

Laredo Kid explains his second leg injury was really his first leg injury. A doctor screwed up, fissures were not sealed right, and it fell back apart in the cage match. Laredo Kid has learned bad doctors are bad, you’ve got to have a backup career because thing can fall apart at any time. He’s planning to go back to school next year. Not a bad idea.

Sahori talks about her name, her career in AAA. She’s been trained by Gran Apache, Abismo Negro and Ultimo Guerrero. Henrik can finish this paragraph.

Lady Rabbit says she’s the only women wrestler employed by IWRG. Going to be tough for her to have matches. When Martha and Rossy said they were bringing their group of women to IWRG, Lady Rabbit joined IWRG on her own and now Martha and Rossy’s group is MIA so Lady Rabbit has no opponents. But she’s still trying and waiting for opponents. It appears her husband is an IWRG wrestler, but they don’t directly say it, and that would explain why she’s hanging around to wait. Lady Rabbit says she was Lady Discovery – I thought that was someone else? Anyway, the point is, I can now sleep at night knowing what happened to Lady Rabbit.

– Two articles about DTU wrestlers but serious now, this is long enough.

Box Y Lucha #2902, the actual magazine, has Cibernetico and Wagner on the cover. Some of the teased stories include Sangre Azteca thinking about teaming with Dragon Rojo and Pegasso and Rey Cometa noting how much tougher the fans and opponents are in CMLL.

RFC says a Monterrey promoter is planning on bringing TNA to Arena Monterrey in April 2009. (This is what they call ‘burying the lede’.) I think we’ve been here before (but at least they have some TV now.) RFC also posted his 2008 awards, with Caifan 69 as the wrestler of the year. Mesias as the best foreginer of the year surprises me a little.

Lineups

AAA (TUE) 12/23 Auditorio Municipal de San Juan, Los Lagos
1) Fabi Apache, Gato Eveready, Mari Apache vs El Padrino, La Diabólica, Sexy Star
2) Crazy Boy & Ultimo Gladiador vs Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan
3) Alan Stone & Gronda II vs Chessman & Zorro

El Padrino is working with Gato Eveready? Seems odd.

AAA (THU) 12/25 Arena San Juan Pantitlan [luchalibreaaa]
1) Aerostar, Dizzy, Fabi Apache, Mascarita Divina vs ?, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Mari Apache, Mini Charly Manson
2) Charly Manson, Crazy Boy, Super Porky vs ?, El Brazo, Electro Shock

Charly can’t possibly be wrestling here.

indy (THU) 12/25 Unidad Deportiva Luis Donaldo Colosio
1) Caballero X vs Payaso Loco
2) Dancy Boy & Kenji vs Aero Mouse & Kintaro
3) Halconcito Galactico & Lunathor vs Kid Star & Zafarrancho
4) Camaleon de Oro, Protector, Shrek vs Felino, Puma King, Tiger Kid
5) Angeluz, Fray Tormenta, Sagrado vs Infierno, Rostro Infernal, Satánico

I guess we know one of Fray Tormenta’s disciples is still on good terms with him! That’s a very literal good vs evil main event; we just needed some dogs to face all those semimain cats. Don’t like the devil’s chances on Christmas Day.

indy (THU) 12/25 Arena Olimpico Laguna de Gomez Palacio [El Siglo de Torreon]
1) Pentagoncito vs Mini Maximo
2) Guerrero Inca vs Semental
3) Angel de Oro, Hooligan, Scriba Jr. vs Euforia, Misterioso II, Mr. Guerrero
4) Blue Panther, Stuka Jr., Ultimo Guerrero vs Atlantis, Dragon Rojo Jr., Ephesto

So, UG is working as a hometown tecnico, but Dragon Rojo and Ephesto are not? Don’t try and make sense of it, kdb!

AAA (THU) 12/25 Auditorio de Tijuana [aereo_suicida @ SML]
1) Human Tornado vs Puma
2) Black Abyss, Histeria, Psicosis II vs Arandu, Extreme Tiger, TJ Boy
3) Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario vs Jack Evans & Teddy Hart [AAA TAG]
4) Alex Koslov, Rocky Romero, X-Pac vs Chuck Palumbo, Konnan, Rellik

This is in fact a real card, not some apparition from a nightmare. My guess is this is a tryout for Palumbo and not a sign he’s coming in full time, but time will tell. I would presume Puma is the TJ Perkins (there’s plenty of lucha guys running around with that name too, but not all of the face other PWG guys.) Psicosis II is usually the promoter for these shows, but obviously I didn’t realize his connections to SoCal talent.

Deep thought of the day: are Jack & Teddy actually Mexican? are Nicho & Lider actually foreigners? I need to expand on this, but I needed to eat lunch and I didn’t do that either.

If that looks like a lot of Christmas shows, that’s the tip. I’m counting 10 listed shows so far, including five with AAA main events.

CMLL (SUN) 12/28 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Poseidon vs Milenio
2) Palacio Negro & Plata vs Thunder Boy & Virgo
3) Idolo & Nube Roja vs Depreadador (GDL) & Exterminador (GDL)
4) Infierno, Malefico, Máscara Mágica vs Mr. Trueno, Rey Trueno, Satánico
5) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Shocker vs Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero

Hmm, trios champs vs the last

12/22 (1): Puebla, Monterrey, Coliseo, IWRG, bye bye Ciber

I’m splitting this right down the middle for sanity sake. (And so I can take a 15 minute break before typing up lineups.)

CMLL (MON) 12/15 Arena Puebla [eric0891 @ el martinete]
1) Centella de Oro & Legionario b Karisma & Sauron
2) Asturiano, Hijo del Faraon, Pegasso Xtreme b Policeman, Semental, Toro Bill Jr.
3) Mascarita Dorada, Pequeño Olímpico, Último Dragoncito b Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
4) Blue Panther, Mictlán, Valiente b Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca
5) Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero b Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone, Shocker

and that’s how we get to today’s title match, of course.

CMLL (THU) 12/18 Arena Monterrey [RFC]
1) Angel Dorado Jr., Mascara Dorada, Máscara Púrpura b Arkangel de la Muerte, Dragon Rojo Jr., Virus
2) Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero, Terrible b La Mascara, Mark Corleone, Maximo
3) Diluvio Negro II L Blue Panther and Tiger Universitario [hair]
4) La Sombra, Mr. Niebla, Valiente b Difunto II, Diluvio Negro I, Último Guerrero [semifinal]
5) Averno, Misterioso II, Volador Jr. b Místico, Rey Hechicero, Sangre Azteca [semifinal]
6) Último Guerrero b Difunto II [mask]

Let me see if I get this all right (thanks KrisZ)

Main event 12 man mask match took the form of a battle royale to determine four trios teams, with the person who took the pin moving on to a mask match. (No captains, I guess.) That was UG in the first match and Rey Hechicero in the second. However, Rey Hechicero suffered a knee injury (attributed to Misterioso.) I believe what happened is they had a quickie battle royale with the four guys left, with Difunto getting beat by Mistico and dumped into the mask match. Which he lost. No name listed.

Blue Panther took Diluvio Negro II’s hair.

La Mascara and local Angel Dorado Jr. ended up taking Hector Garza and Dos Caras Jr.’s spots. As I’ll get to later, Hector probably had had knee surgery, causing the recent disappearing act. Would it hurt CMLL to actually announce this sort of thing?

CMLL (SUN) 12/21 Arena Coliseo [Ovaciones]
1) Hijo del Faraon & Pegasso b Camorra & Semental
2) Fabián el Gitano, Leono, Tony Rivera b Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Loco Max
3) Mascarita Dorada, Nino de Acero, Shockercito b Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
4) Mascara Dorada, Máximo, Sagrado DQ Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca, Skandalo
5) Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr. b Marco Corleone, Shocker, Toscano

By everyone’s estimation, Dorada, Pierrothito and the minis stole the show. Focus was on Dorada vs Pierrothito, with Dorada picking up the pin (though it may be disputed.) Dorada wants a shot at the Lightweight Title, Pierrothito wants a mask match (ha! you know, I think they could main event with that…) but they’re getting a trios rematch next week. Considering how long it took for Nosferatu and Infernal to get their rematch, we’ll get a title rematch for this one in March.

Terrible replaced Ephesto, which worked because they seem to be doing a program with him and Marco off Leyenda de Azul. here, Terrible got the pin after grabbing the ropes.

DQ in the semimain was for Dragon Rojo fouling Maximo. Which isn’t very tecnico. Skandalo replaced Black Warrior. Pegasso may be lower than Super Fly is in AAA, but he’s winning.

IWRG (SUN) 12/21 Arena Naucalpan [Ovaciones]
4) Hijo del Cien Caras & Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. DQ Head Hunter I & Veneno
5) Arlequin L Oficial 911, Scorpio Jr., Fuerza Guerrera, Tetsuya, Cerebro Negro, Pierroth II, Zumbido, Máscara Año 2000, Multifacético [cage, hair]

Arlequin lost his mask and his hair within 2 months. Indy lucha libre, ain’t it special. 911 gets credit for the win. DQ in the semimain was referee violence, I believe.

CMLL (SUN) 12/21 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [mt 1, MT 2]
4) Mr. Trueno, Rey Trueno, Satánico b Casanova, Gallo, Neutrón
5) Dos Caras Jr., La Máscara, Volador Jr. b Averno, Felino, Negro Casas
6) Místico b Mr. Niebla

Not totally sure of the result of the fourth match. Post match, Gallo again challenged Satanico to a mask vs hair match, and Satanico warned him to be careful what he asked for. That (non-mask/hair) singles match is scheduled for tomorrow and Gallo is so getting pwned. Clean wins in the top two matches.

In other news from the building, they’ll now be following the Mexico City Tuesday/Sunday pattern of really cheap tickets the first Sunday of every month, starting on 01/04. Children tickets are 10 pesos anywhere, adults are 30 pesos in some of the seating. June will be the 50th anniversary celebration for this arena, so maybe another big show will take place then.

AAA (SUN) 12/21 Salon Sagitario [AAA]
1) Fabi Apache & Mari Apache b Cinthia Moreno & Sexy Star
2) Alan Stone & El Elegido b Escoria & Mesias
3) Cibernetico & La Parka Jr. b Konnan & Zorro

AAA’s site bills this as Cibernetico’s farewell. He’s not on the lineups for this week (so far!) AAA never writes about spot shows, make of it what you will.

They said the show had a good turnout, and it looks that way from pictures elsewhere. Mesias and Sexy Star didn’t get along with their partners.

Poll: Who’s Not Leaving?

The new Box Y Lucha site is up and content rich, but it and other issues (the exciting AAA debut of Chuck Palumbo) are going to delay my news update for probably an hour or more. Just to put up something quick and topical…

Dos Caras Jr. has the big heavyweight title match tonight in Puebla; if he’s leaving, you’d think he’d be losing the title. Flipping that, if he loses his the title, everyone’s going to be pretty well convinced Dos is out of CMLL.

Meanwhile, <a href=http://luchalibre.mforos.com/2534/7623490-el-color-adios-al-ciber-de-aaa-funcion-de-foristas-y-mas/>Cibernetico</a> told the crowd at a show in Neza (Salon Sagitario?) it was his last show with AAA. He’s been working spot show since being off TV, with the idea that he – just like Dos – would be done at the end of the month.

Unfortunately, I’m a horrible skeptic and have trouble believing anyone, much less luchadors. WWE doesn’t seem to me like it’s signing Dos soon (or has even been pursing him for a long time) and the indy scene is inconsistent and unreliable. I still think Cibernetico/AAA stuff is a work, but even if it was real, the novelty of working Perro shows is going to work out.

I’m wrong a lot, so I’ll put the question to you: what do you think is going to happen?

(I picked May in case Rey de Reyes slips into April.)
