Metal Blanco keeps his title, Diamante broken, Juvi/Super Crazy

CMLL (SUN) 06/26/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) El Divino & Hierro b Ángel del Mal & In Memoriam
2) Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno b Apocalipsis & Mortiz
Mortiz was stretchered out after a Rey Trueno powerbomb.
3) Ángel Azteca, Guerrero Maya Jr., Starman b Arkángel de la Muerte, Ráfaga, Skándalo
Guerrero Maya was the big hero for his team.
4) Metal Blanco b Tiger Kid [OCCIDENTE WELTER]
Metal Blanco took falls 1/3 to keep the title.
5) Naito, Terrible, Texano b Hijo del Fantasma, Rush, Toscano
Naito got along with his partners and beat Fantasma.

Tiger is convinced he won the match, is the uncrowned champion, and challenged Metal Blanco to a mask match. There’s no explanation of why Tiger thinks these things, but he wants a rematch in Arena Mexico and then another one here.

CMLL (MON) 06/27/2011 Arena Puebla [Cinco Radio]
3) Astral, Bam Bam, Eléctrico b Demus 3:16, Pequeño Nitro, Pierrothito
4) Ángel de Oro, Delta, Angel de Plata? Diamante b Felino, Pólvora, Rey Escorpion
Felino replaced Misterioso. Not sure what the deal is with Diamante’s replacement – Angel de Oro is listed twice.
5) La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush b Averno, Mephisto, Mr. Niebla
Mascara got Averno with a campana. Another mask vs hair challenge.

Other News

Diamante suffered a fracture of his 3 of his toes and dislocation of another on Friday night, which will leave him out of action for five to six weeks. Toe injuries are pretty rare.

Juvi explains he’s facing Super Crazy because they have unresolved issues over the Mexicools not becoming the biggest faction in all of wrestling. It’s all Super Crazy’s fault, Juvi explains. (Juvi also takes credit for opening doors for Sin Cara & Alberto del Rio being in WWE. I’ve missed Juvi.) Meanwhile, Perros del Mal are talking about taking over Super X.

Arkangel’s 7/17 anniversary show will include an Arkangel tournament (the cibernetico?) and an exhibition by his students. On his blog, Mr. Cacao thanks CMLL for allowing him to return for the trios main event with Arkangel.

CMLL hype for the Dr. X vs Fuego feud mentions Fuego was supposed to be thinking about turning rudo (to continue the team with Polvora.) Hadn’t considered that. Anyway, he’s a tecnico because Dr. X keeps messing with him.

Black Terry Jr. posted the Oficial 911 vs Multifacetico title match: fall 1, fall 2, fall 3

Rob has highlight video of Rey Del Aire 2011! That’s quick turnaround.

Lineups

indy (SUN) 07/03/2011 Arena Coliseo Monterrey
1) Dangerous & Galactar vs Androide & Rey Sagitario
2) Hijo del Ninja, Humberto Garza Jr., Ninja Jr. vs Neurosis, Sky, the Beast
3) Golden Boy, Rey Demonio, Simbolo vs Angel Dorado Jr., Dralion, Máscara Púrpura

Start of a new era show, so I could be bothered to suss out the alignments and post the lineup. I hope this works for them, but I kind of wonder if the problem with this arena is there is no long term continuity of luchadors. There’s vast turnover around ever three weeks, it’s got to be hard to form a connection being gone for three month stretches.

Super X (FRI) 07/15/2011 Arena Azteca Budokan
1) Eterno vs Daga
2) Marcela vs Rossy Moreno [GPCW WOMEN, tournament]
3) Histeria II, Oriental, Zumbido vs ?, Súper Nova, Zumbi
4) Villano IV & Villano V vs Negro Navarro & Solar I
5) Juventud Guerrera vs Super Crazy [NWE CRUISER]

Not sure how the women’s tournament works or if there are any  more matches than that. The GPCW SUPER-X Monster Championship, I’m sure you recall, was part of the initial tournament for the AAA World Heavyweight Championship. Perros del Mal actually showing up would be sort of interesting with the CMLL-allied talent on the show (but then, Super Crazy is already there.)

01/18: GDL (new Trios champs), IWRG, Coliseo

CMLL (SUN) 01/18 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [MT: main (w/picture of new champs), semifinal]
4) Angel de Oro & Volador Jr. b Rey Bucanero & Satánico
5) Héctor Garza, Hijo de Fantasma, La Máscara b Atlantis, Rey Bucanero Negro Casas, Último Guerrero [CMLL TRIOS]

Hector Garza, Hijo de Fantamsa and La Mascara are the 20th CMLL Champions, winning back the belts they lost in August. Hector is now a five time champ, but this is the first time he’s won it back with the same team. Rudos go from controlling 6 of 8 of the major CMLL championships to half and half in the course of two days. Didn’t see this one coming at all. Negro teaming with UG and Atlantis was a forced situation and didn’t really help anything, just got Negro more into the mix when it came to the TNA stuff. I don’t mind this change, especially if we’re eventually heading to a Hijos del Averno or Poder Mexica contesting these belts.

Champs took the first fall with double Atlantidas. Tecnicos won the second fall, and then the match clean in the third fall, La Mascara getting Atlantis with la campana. Yea, read that again, it’s hard to believe. Champions did not argue, but just walked out after the loss.

Volador and Angel de Oro got a bit of an upset win themselves in the semifinal. After the match, Volador challenged Satanico to a mask vs hair match. This offended Bucanero – how dare Volador challenge his old mentor! – and Rey is giving Volador a shot at the CMLL Light Heavyweight title instead. I would not bet against any challenger right now.

IWRG (THU) 01/15 Arena Naucalpan [Al Filo del Ring]
1) Halcon 2000 b Epidemia
2) Eragon & Galactik b Anticristo Jr. & Avisman
3) Fenix, Freelance, Goleador b Demony, Fantasma de la Ópera, Nemesis IWRG
4) Trauma I, Trauma II, Zatura b Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
5) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro b Barba Roja, Capitán Muerte, Pirata Morgan Jr. [EdM TRIOS]

Champs took the second and third to retain. Zatura bled a lot, but his team got the win and they’ll get a title shot next week.

CMLL (SUN) 01/18 Arena Coliseo [Universal]
5) Místico DQ Black Warrior

Warrior fouled Mistico and then pulled his mask. Gotta cover all the bases.

El Siglo de Torreon talks to Ultimo Guerrero about the beginnings of his career. His father brought him to lucha libre shows from the time he was very little – he says he’s been told he first started talking and walking when at them – and Mano Negra inspired him to become a wrestler. He wrestled locally for five years as Flanagan before going to Mexico City on his own dime and not much more than that. He was a complete unknown and slept on the floor of the Fuerza/Panther Gym at nights and worked for Fuerza Guerrera during the days.

The same newspaper also talks to the Torreon box y lucha comission, who wants to create offical belts. There’d be heavyweight (98 kg and up), light heavy (80-97), middle (71-79), welter (65-69), light (60-64) and feather (59 and down), as well as tag team and trios. Nothing good can come of this! The commission’s ideas is that they’re hold tournaments involving qualtity (and licensed!) wrestlers and hold a hard line about how the titles are defended so the titles retain more credibility than the random belts that float thru here. The ideas is the titles would start here in May. The article also notes less than 10 of the estimated 160 local wrestlers have bothered to renew their licenses.

Rotavio de Queretaro has an interview with Arkangel de la Muerte, who explains the origin of his name. His career as Mr. Cid was not going anywhere and he was thinking off retiring, but suffered an accident that put him in a coma for a week. While in the coma, he saw an angel, and decided that was a gimmick work trying. Arkangel feels he’s getting close to the end of the career – the young people are pushing him – but he’s still like to go back to Japan again, as well as go up to Canada to teach (which was planned at one point apparently. The Dragon Gym affiliate that’s no longer in existence?)

WagnerMania posted video of the tag team title match from Friday and the latest WagnerMania show.

LuchaWorld has Robert looking back at AAA 07/1/07 and GDR 8/4 and FSE 8/5/7. There’s also KrisZ’s news update.

Lineup

IWRG (THU) 01/22 Arena Naucalpan
1) Halcon 2000 vs Comando Gama
2) Eragon & Miss Gaviota vs Anticristo Jr. & Avisman
3) Chico Che & Goleador vs Demony & Xibalva
4) Freelance, Pendulo, Zatura vs Tetsuya, Toxico AAA, Veneno
5) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro vs Trauma I, Trauma II, Zatura [IWRG IC TRIOS]

I refuse to predict title matches. No good can come of it!

CMLL (SUN) 01/25 Arena Coliseo
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II vs Apocalipsis & Ramstein
2) Fabián el Gitano, Hijo del Faraon, Leono vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Pólvora, Skandalo
3) Máscara Púrpura, Máximo, Mictlán vs Felino, Vangelis, Virus
4) Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, Toscano vs Black Warrior, Lizmark Jr., Negro Casas
5) Dos Caras Jr., Mark Corleone, Shocker vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero

This is…not particularly interesting.

CMLL (SUN) 01/25 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Boomerang & Virgo vs Angel del Mal & Milenio
2) Casanova (GDL) & Leon Blanco vs Ephesto & Toxico (GDL)
3) Dark Angel, Marcela, Sahori vs Amapola, Medussa, Princesa Blanca
4) Mascara Dorada, Místico, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Mephisto, Rey Bucanero

Obviously going to be changed to a Bucanero/Volador main event. A women’s trios is rare here, especially with no local woman involved. Wonder if they’re getting a title match next week – that’s be three in three weeks, but also give them something noteworthy for the monthly free show (assuming it’s on 02/01.)

IWRG (SUN) 01/25 Arena Naucalpan
1) Eragon & Miss Gaviota vs Avisman & Nemesis IWRG
2) Chico Che, Gemelo Fantastico I, Gemelo Fantastico II vs Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro
3) Freelance, Multifacético, Zumbido vs Demony, Tetsuya, Veneno

Actual main event TBA.

03/30: Guadalajara, Neza, Xalapa

CMLL (SUN) 03/25 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [cmll]
1) Carlo Roggi & Nube Roja b Depredador & Rey Trueno
2) Magnum b Infierno
3) Cien Caras Jr. & Hijo de Cien Caras b Leon Blanco & Rayman [OCCIDENTE TAG]
4) el Hijo del Pierroth, Ephesto, Olímpico b La Máscara, Metal Blanco, Virus
5) Atlantis, LA Park, Último Guerrero b Alex Koslov, Lizmark Jr., Rey Bucanero

I thought there might be a title change, because it doesn’t seem like the Cien Caras kids are around here much. Didn’t turn out that way – it came down to Rayman and Cien Caras Jr., but the ref got distracted, Hijo de Cien Caras slipped in to foul Cien Caras Jr., and the champs retained. Ultimo snuck in a foul on Rey in the main event.

CMLL (TUE) 03/27 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [CMLL]
1) Valentin Mayo b Nube Roja
2) Super Maquina b Golden
3) Metalik b Guero Loco
4) Oro II b Toxico
5) el Hijo del Pierroth, Máscara Mágica, Olímpico DQ Gallo, Leon Blanco, Sagrado
6) Alex Koslov & Místico b Ephesto & Mephisto

Magica fouled Sagrado; they seem to be setting up a feud there.

CMLL (TUE) 04/03 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Virgo vs Fraile de la Muerte
2) Idolo vs Danger (Guadalajara)
3) Metalik vs Depredador
4) Marcela vs Amapola
5) Metal Blanco, Oro II, Volador Jr. vs Malefico, Nitro, Toxico
6) Rey Bucanero & Texano Jr. vs Emilio Charles Jr. & Hector Garza

CMLL (WED) 03/28 Arena Xalapa Results [rodrigo_park @ Satanico’s Mansion]
1) Master & Pegaso de Plata b Cancer & Destructor
2) Gabriel O Gabriela & Karate Boy b Guerrero de la Noche & Perro Mocho Jr.
3) Mini Damian 666, Mini Halloween, Mini Hooligan b Mini Robin, Tzuki, Ultimo Dragon
4) Astro Boy, Impacto, Samuray b Arkangel, Eslabon Perdido, Loco Max
5) Mascara Purpura, Rey Bucanero, Shocker DQ Atlantis, Olimpico, Ultimo Guerrero

Ultimo faked a foul from Shocker. Astro Boy and Arkangel were feuding in the semifinal. Black Warrior, Tarzan Boy and Heavy Metal all missed the show, replaced by Ultimo Guerrero, Olimpico, and Mascara Purpura.

CMLL (SUN) 03/27 Arena Neza Results [Rudos de Neza]
1) Dark Devil & Red Bull b Boazz & Samy Rivera
2) Luis Cirio, Manny Cirio, Tony Cirio b Cometa Blanco, Cosmico, Insecto
3) Chac-Mol vs Ramstein, Rayo Tapatio I, Rayo Tapatio II, Tony Rivera, Valiente, Arkangel, Skandalo, Apocalipsis, Hooligan [ciber]
4) Dos Caras Jr. & Marco Corelone b Hector Garza & Perro Aguayo Jr.

Finals of the cibernetico was Ramstein vs Chac-Mol. When el Rey de Neza lost (yet again), he demanded a mask match and got into another fight with Chac-Mol. After the main event, they did a quickie Dos/Perro one fall match with a rudo and a tecnico fan’s hair on the line. Perro went down, the rudo fan got his head shaved and carried off on the shoulders of the other rudos fans.

AAA (WED) 04/18 Gimnasio Benito Juarez de Cuautitlan de Romero Rubio [triplea]
1) Billy Boy & Estrellita vs Apache & Tiffany
2) ?, Mexiacano, Mexico Bronco vs Cuervo, Ozz, Scoria
3) Nemesis AAA, Rey Cometa, Super Fly vs Alan Stone, Brandon, Scorpio Jr.
4) Elegido, Gronda II, La Parka Jr. vs Charly Manson, Chessman, Head Hunter I

People on Box Y Lucha have noted the oddness of this main event, so I thought I’d point out here. I’m pretty sure it’s just house show weirdness – a week later, Head Hunter’s working against the Head Hunters.

Martha Villalobos’s AAA-allied is group is running 8 shows in 12 days at a fair.

A request to run a CMLL show in Zacatelco, Tlaxcala was rejected by local government, because the city council was worried that the ring would mess up the basketball floor the show would be held on.

Magazines
Super Luchas #190: Mistico with El Hijo del Diablo’s mask and Diablo unmasked. Also, photos of the weightlifting contest, if you’re looking for men in thongs.
Luchas 2000 #346Diablo unmasked and Mistico with his mask.
Box Y Lucha #2795 has Misitco and Diablo.
Guerreros del Ring #64 has the Dos Caras family.

It looks like the magazines have a recap of the 11/30 AAA TV taping, even if AAA’s site doesn’t.

07/23 news: Accion, Congress

Accion

CMLL: The Dos/Lizmark/Metal vs Corleone/Stamboli/Kenzo match, of all things. I guess no one got hurt in that one. This match is oddly listed as for the NWA Middleweight title – not quite accurate. Jindrak has an awesome running down the ramp and leaaping over spot in here. It’s like his vertical leap was actually useful for once. Stamboli takes a good chokeslam from Lizmark. Dos got Jindrak – who has hair again – with a quick German for the win. I was thinking Stamboli and Jindrak were leaving money on the table by not having hair for Lizmark and Dos to eventually win, and maybe someone educated Mark?

AAA: Octagon vs Zumbido for the Middleweight Title. I didn’t complain about this as much as maybe should’ve when Octagon won the belt, but it’s quite the dumb idea and a complete waste of the tournament they ran to fill it. If Octaogn needs a token belt, remind him he’s tag champ. In the final sequence, Zumbido’s big slap got not-el Hijo de Tirantes. Zumbido went on to rollup Octagon, and Electroshock ran out to count – I have absolutely no clue why Electro would do that, but I guess we’re getting a Guapos/Vipers feud? Zumbido of course assumes that’s three, but everything gets sorted out – oh, Electro is making “I want the belt” motions, I guess that’s the explanation (though it still doesn’t make sense.) The match gets reset – so Zumbido wasn’t actually hurt by this turn of events – and Octagon got La Jarocha for the win.

Ovaciones today previews the upcoming AAA taping, noting Rossy Moreno’s return – from having kids.

Congress Show this weekend

TAKE 2. Anyone going to the congress show this weekend? Same stips as last time – if you’re going, if you’re figuring something around the show, if you want to pool resources on getting there, if you just rather sit next to someone you barely known from the internet rather than in the back row by yourself, trying to see over twenty kids standing on their seats, leave me a note so we can work something out.

We actually have a CARD

OMLL (SUN) 07/23 Congress Theatre Lineup [arenas de chicago]
1) Coco Negro & Coco Verde vs Acid Jazz & Justin Adams
2) SWAT Kat vs Rayo Lazer vs Aguila del America
3) Mini Charly Manson vs Gringo Loco & Guerrerito del Futuro
4) Blue Demon Jr. & Huracan Ramirez vs Rey Misterio & Arkangel de la Muerte

I believe the show starts at 5. GA is $10, Ringside is $15.

That 3rd match can not be right. The last dozen times they’ve done that match, it’s Mascarita Sagrada or Tzuki as the missing man, and I’d assume that’s the deal here – but why wouldn’t they list it? Last minute booking? General wackiness?

2 should be good, though I’m hoping SWAT Kat doesn’t do another pointless blade job. If they make it an actual tag match, 3 should be (usual) fun, and I have a desire to see 1 – perhaps the city guys watched a lucha tape between now and then and perhaps they people who are supposed to explain what they want out of them will time, or perhaps not and the match will still be entertaining in a different manner. 4 should be – well, maybe they saved on payoffs there to pay the rest of the boys better! (It’ll be fine, I guess.)

Wasn’t Gringo Loco a tecnico last time this group did a show? Was Charly Manson? (This, I truly don’t recall.) Wasn’t Acid Jazz a tecnico and Justin Adams a rudo and the clowns have ALWAYS been a rudo (though I’m betting they won’t be come Sunday.)

You know what would be nifty – a trios match.

(You may be able to tell how close I am to a rant. Perhaps that’s an added draw.)
