always good to recruit after a loss

These results are not complete. If you flip thru Black Terry’s flickr, the first photo you see are Heddi Karou (from the Perros show) putting a headlock on noted blue man Hilario. Argenis is on the apron for a dive, so I guess it’s a dark match that won’t be acknowledged. The other opening match foreigner from the Perros show, Naruto, turns up as a lumberjack, and might have been in this match too.

Results seem to have the wrong order. Air Force vs rudo appears to be the second match. After the match, Konnan, Dorian, Halloween, and Damian hit the ring, helped beat up the tecnicos. Dorian declared everyone must be with the Legion or AAA, and Decnnis apparently had brokered a deal to start a new lesser faction in association with the Legion, called La Milicia. Billy, Tiger Cota and Chris Stone (not pictured) all signed up, and it’s unclear if Tiger or Decnnis’ partners will also be involved. That interview has Decnnis explaining that he’s forming this group to move up the card, and I do believe some of them will move up the card (so they can take the pinfall loss in matches where no one else will.)

From when Konnan “won control of AAA” thru about TripleMania 2009, the rudos were all budding up to Konnan or turned up as his random henchmen – the Abismo-less Vipers and the Sect were used in this way. It seems we’re just going back to that, so I’d guess the Sect get new t-shirts again. Wonder if this means the Psycho Circus finally turns tecnico, or just joins a new Cibernetico group.

Jennifer Blake replaced Sexi Star. Sexi’s off in Tampa, taking photos of highway signs , which every reads as a tease of going to WWE (FCW) or TNA. Sometimes a photo is just a photo. Match was randomly a lumberjack strap match, with Tiger Cota, Billy Boy, Atomic Boy and Decnnis on the outside. Photos show more guys. Tiger Cota got in a shot on Fabi which led to the rudas winning.

Electroshock replaced Hernandez for reasons unclear. After a match with fouls, Silver King got a “clean” pin on Dr. Wagner to build to his title shot.

Konnan helped out the rudos in the main event, and might have caused the DQ. It’s not especially clear. Mesias, hiding his face under a ski mask for no particular reason, ran out for the save, unmasked himself, and challenged (the not-present) Perro Aguayo for Verano de Escandalo. Probably going to be a trios!

Next taping is a week from today in Puebla.

Dos de Tres was covering the show live, and then suddenly they weren’t. Internet problems, I guess.

Psycho Circus win again, this time with Konnan taking the pin after Cibernetico hit him with a tray that Jennifer Blake had brought to the ring. It was all quickly shrugged off when Los Perros (Perro Jr. and unnamed Perros) showed up to make their alliance with Dorian and Konnan official. This is weird to me, because the AAA TV I watched this weekend  (taped over a month ago), had the Legion and the Perros working together. Things just move slow in Mexico.

Semimain was a crowd brawl. Hijo de Tirantes turned up to attack Piero, but Wagner laid out Tirantes and set up for the Wagner Driver. Vampiro attacked him, and the rudos beat up Tiger for the win.

Tercera ended with Chris Stone turning on Elegido and helping the rudos. AAA’s recap doesn’t mention this. I dunno. It’s late, we’re all tired. No sign of Alan. My new theory is Elegido is so involved in the video game promotion, they thought they needed him to get back on TV, and Chris Stone is more than willing to lose his hair for the cause.

Cinthia pinned Sexi Star and Mini Histeria pinned Octagoncito, both of which would seem to set up title matches if we didn’t know the next half month of TV.

El Mundo Orizaba nonchalantly posted the lineup earlier today. Overall, the only way you’d know it was a major show is because they’ve got a title match and it’s Perro’s first match. Otherwise, it’s a normal TV taping, one that could fit in a single taping. We haven’t missed a whole lot of build; it’s just a lot of matches. This would not have been a good card for Arena Monterrey.

Main event explains why Cibernetico and Mesias won the best possible tag team in AAA in one of luchalibreaaa.com’s notoriously suspicious polls the other day. It’s amazing how the right selection wins every time, even when the right selection isn’t obvious beforehand. (Though, if you’re going to fix anything, fix it so your current tag champs aren’t second to last.) This is the AAA Dream Team versus The Best Of The Perros, which really isn’t that impressive. Super Crazy is in AJPW during this, but they’re still not very deep. If LA Park wasn’t considered a Perro (which, like Dorian saying the TripleMania finish wasn’t going to be overturned, is a post TripleMania statement completely ignored later on), this would be silly. Perro Jr. has to be picking up the win

Instead of doing the Silver King vs Vampiro match for the title shot, they go straight to the three way. The #1 conteder’s match probably would’ve ended up there too, so this just saves us one Vampiro match. A recent WON explains Vamp’s TripleMania performance was bad because of cardio issues – I guess he’s had bad cardio for many years now? Anyway, I’m not sure how not having any matches until Verano will actually improve his cardio, but maybe they’ll be hide it in a three way.

Everything else is marking time, as if they’re eight weeks from a major show and are waiting to do even the major angles for it. And that show is Heroes Inmortales. This is a major show in name only.

This is WCW booking, so Hernandez likely defeats the Cruiserweight champion. They did actually set up the Metal/Electroshock feud, and I suspect it’ll follow on here Metal continuing to get destroyed. Apaches and Aerostar are there as foils to whatever they’re doing with the rudo trio.

Alan Stone on the rudo side gives away a storyline yet to happen. Chris is probably turning on Elegido at Sunday’s Lucha Libre Expo taping, and Alan and Chris are probably teaming with Decnnis in Puebla. They thought ahead enough to list Decnnis’ partners as mystery men for that taping, it’s a slip up not to do the same here.

The only fly in is Nosawa, and that probably was agreed to at TripleMania, before whatever happened. They don’t appear to be bringing in any Perros besides Perro Jr., Halloween, Damian and Super Crazy. Everyone else might be done after the Expo.

Stuff to talk about here, on a few different levels. I’ll start small and zoom out.

This is the usual lame duck taping. It’ll air one day after Verano takes place in Orizaba. It’s utterly bizarre AAA’s doing the first 187 vs FdT match on this show, given how much they seem invested in it, but I guess they prefer to do the trios involving guys who aren’t even feuding or on TV.

This is the return to TV for Black Abyss & Psicosis since the Vipers 2.0 were completely destroyed by the Dark Family, the kind of squash match you never see in lucha libre. The IWRG trios featuring Tinieblas Jr. had more credibility in stopping The Streak then those two.

Title rematch so soon is strange. Again, their very next show is one of their major card. Unlike the other tag match, which is more about spectacle than outcome, running a third title match next week wouldn’t be defensible.

I keep coming back to questions about Verano de Escandalo because it’s a complete mystery. With this lineup, we now know every single taping into their major show of August, and I’m not 100% sure of any match on that card. If I had to bet on one match, my best guess is they’re planning Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Silver King for the title based on their matches, but it could be Electro (or it could be no Dr. Wagner at all.) Everything else is just barely educated guesses.

  • The Mesias/187 vs Perro/Halloween/Damian trios match the WON suggested still works, and explains as much as anything why they’re doing the tag match now (though they still could’ve waited until Pena’s show to do it.) It hasn’t been built at all.
  • Cibernetico & Hernandez seem to be meeting a lot, so maybe they’ll have a match, except it’d be really bad and neither guy is going to lose, so I guess it has to be a trios.
  • Super Crazy’s probably getting a match and so are the Maniacos, so maybe them versus three random tecnicos (Parka, Tiger, Octagon)? Or maybe this is finally the IWRG match?
  • Christina seems to be full time in Mexico at the moment, so maybe her and Sexi vs the Apaches?
  • maybe Decnnis’ secret partners are the Stones, turning rudo to feud with Elegido and forming the new new new new new Guapos? That makes as much sense as anything
  • all the minis in one match, the old stand by. Really reaching now
  • and just to get to eight, Dark Family vs Air Force

AAA typically builds every match on it’s major shows. They tend to over do it, more angles than people are willing to keep track of. Maybe vignettes and outcomes on these three tapings will greatly clarify things, but this looks like a CMLL card: maybe two matches that have a build, and a lot of stuff thrown in there. Very out of behavior, strange.

Also strange: the press release AAA sent out (reposted via The Gladiatores)

Translated (abridged): Promociones Antonio Pena say they have Dr. Wagner Jr. under contract, and are currently renegotiating with him. AAA and Wagner will continue working together, and the relationship has been optimal for both parties. PAP invites the public to keep up with the official facts, and not to pay attention to speculation or rumors.

Rumors are awful! They hurt people. I don’t want to be like people on Twitter, starting rumors and offering baseless speculation, that’s just wrong. We need to deal in facts, that’s the only way to go. Though I guess I’m back to knowing nothing for Verano, since there have been no facts about it.

I have some facts I’d like to share with you.

  • Current World Heavyweight Champion Dr. Wagner Junior told the press he was not under contract to PAP PAP says differently. Factually, they’re calling Wagner a liar.
  • Dr. Wagner made it clear that he’s now available to anyone who will pay him his price. Four days later, AAA met with Wagner, did not meet that price and sent out a press release admitting as such.
  • Current Reina de Reinas champion Sexi Star contacted another promotion to look for work
  • Current AAA Cruiserweight Champion Jack Evans is not on the 07/24 AAA TV taping. Or the 07/29 AAA TV taping. Or this AAA TV taping. And his good friend just quit because his pay got slashed.
  • Verano de Escandalo was moved from Arena Monterrey to a bull ring in Orizaba. Devastation from Hurricane Alex obviously affected this decision. Factually speaking, Arena Monterrey is one of, if not the, most modern arenas in Mexico and costly to rent. Moving from Arena Monterrey to a bull ring drastically cuts down on costs.
  • Native, generally young, luchadors who had been mostly removed from AAA television lineups are flooding recent TV lineups. People who have been on the fringes of the roster are the most visible they’ve been in months, if not years. The current creative team’s trademark of fly-ins from out of the country has been almost totally wiped out.
  • Fly-ins, at least until recently, got good guaranteed deals. The natives replacing them are a lot cheaper, even when used in higher positions on the card.

These are the facts. If you want to enter into speculation about a promotion showing the signs of some significant problems going back at least a month, and has been desperate to stop the bleeding, I guess I can’t stop you. I will advise that this might not be only or whole answer (fact: even with no leverage, Los Perros aren’t working for free – there’s a redistribution of wealth going on), but concede the facts paint an interesting picture.

This is about normal for one of the big two LLExpo shows – a lineup full of names but not necessarily moving anything forward. The problem here is this is the second to last taping until Verano de Escandalo, and you still can’t figure out the matches for that show. Vampiro is nowhere to be found, so either they’re building to his big title match by having him run/walk in to match, or he’s not in a big title match. I’m not sure!

Verano has played second fiddle to the Pena show the last couple years. It’s going to do it again this year, because they might actually figure out a plan sometime later.

Is this the time the Clowns lose? (No, probably not.)

Dr. Wagner is on the lineup, which means AAA must think he’s working the show. He probably will. Signing a contract is a different thing.

Chris Stone seemed to be in the process of turning rudo, and Relampago was a rudo for five seconds. Might be a long night for Elegido.

This is the same night as the Perros show, so there surely will be some crossover.

Things are always changing. Just a few hours ago, the Wrestling Observer reported the main event of this show was supposed to be Silver King vs Vampiro with the winner getting the title shot at Verano de Escandalo. No sign of Vampiro now. Perhaps that will now happen at the Lucha Libre Expo (which WON lists with a similar Wagner/Silver tag match with Octagon & UG in the other spots; their lineup is not complete and AAA has not posted it.)

Semimain is a possible preview of a Verano. Instead of the straight tag match they’ve been teasing, WON says it’ll be a trios with Perro Jr. & the returning Mesias.

Tercera is probably more problems with the Air Force, based on what they did at the last taipng.

Segunda is definitely people being kicked in the head.

Relampago continues to wrestle as a tecnico. Maybe they’ll do something with him and Tiger on this show.

AAA lists 08/06 in Puebla as the next taping.
