CMLL on Fox Sports (Mexico) #371 (09/14/2013)
Recapped: 10/01/2013

Hype for the Anniversary show, which is bizarre considering this aired the day after.

No announcers talking, straight to the opener.

Match 1: Diamante Azul, La Máscara, Shocker ©  vs Felino, Mr. Niebla ©, Pólvora
Arena Mexico, 09/06/2013

  1. técnicos
  2. rudos
  3. técnicos

Winner: técnicos
Match Time: 9:10
Rating: ok
Notes: Referee is Babe Richard. Monito is with the técnicos. Zacarias is with the rudos, though Zacarias is barely seen.

1: Pairs are Azul/Felino (staying on the mat), Mascara/Niebla (featuring both guys doing the hip swivel and a tope at the end), and Shocker/Polvora (lasts 10 seconds.) Monito splashes Pólvora after the fact.

2: Mr. Niebla tries to scare Ally, but she laughs as she runs away. Announcers go crazy for Azul's normal big armdrag on Pólvora. Polvora's tossed onto Felino, who takes a couple quebradora and a superkick. Niebla slaps Azul down, and Azul gets thrown out without attempting a comeback. Mascara takes the offense back for the técnicos. Niebla almost hits Felino by mistake twice, kisses him, then clotheslines Mascara after Mascara superkicks Felino. Niebla spit is – missed, Niebla falling on the mat in trying to catch it. Somehow, this still starts the beatdown. Rudos prioritize beating up Monito over getting the pin, Niebla legdropping the monkey. Pólvora and Felino suplex Shocker for Niebla's splash, and that ends the fall.

3: No real break between the falls, at least the way it's edited here. Mascara sidesteps a charge and clears out the rudos himself as the comeback. Técnicos get in a bit of a run before Diamante Azul tries the german. Pólvora fights that off, but runs into the escuedo soon after. Felino breaks it up about four seconds too late. Shocker sets up the usual stunner/accidental kick spot, but Niebla refuses to kick Felino and slaps Shocker instead. Shocker sent out, and Niebla backdrops Felino into a pescado on him. Niebla teases a dive, Máscara planchas him, campana, Niebla escapes and dances, Máscara dropkicks him in the knee and casitas him anyway.

Actual announcer intro for the show.

Match 2: Atlantis & La Sombra vs Último Guerrero & Volador Jr.
Arena Mexico, 09/06/2013

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. rudos

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:27
Rating: ok/good
Notes: Referee is Tirantes. Joined with Ultimo Guerrero slamming Atlantis' head into the buckle while Volador and Sombra face off on the stage.

1: Volador fights off Sombra and dives onto him form the while we're still getting the matchup graphic. They do cut right away to the replay. UG rips up Atlantis' mask right away and holds him for the cameras while Volador throws Sombra around ringside and over the barricade. UG clotheslines Atlantis around, but misses a corner charge and takes the knee bump out. They brawl on the outside while Volador and Sombra come back to the ring. Volador knocks down Sombra but can't get a pin. UG drags Atlantis back to the ring and beats him with the front superplex. That seems like the cue for Volador to take his pin, but instead Sombra gets in a tope, then they hurry back to the ring to set up Volador's duck into a superkick and a backcracker for the fall.

2: Again, this breaks down to two separate fights. Volador yanks around Sombra's mask while the other guys rest on the outside. Volador gives Sombra the corner running boot to the face for a two count. Sombra' mask is ripped. Volador superkicks Sombra, who weakly rolls out. Volador throws Sombra back in and UG actually interacts with him, but just long enough to set up Sombra Devitting his way into a comeback. Sombra headscissors Volador out and follows with a big tope con giro, while Atlantis quebradoras UG and rips up his mask. UG breaks loose enough to run into the Atlantida. Sombra and Volador return, Sombra powerslams and lands the double moonsault for the win.

3: Ultimo Guerrero clotheslines Atlantis hard as the match is rejoined. Atlantis struggles to get up while Ultimo Guerrero celebrates, but eventually gets in his own clothesline and goes for the mask. Tirantes breaks it up, and Atlantis threatens him. Atlantis and UG evade, and the monkey roll ends UG out for an Atlantis tope. Volador and Sombra do not react to this at all, besides getting in the ring for their turn. Evasion, double duck down (oops) and Sombra backspring headscissors. Sombra clothesline Volador hard in the corner, but Volador rushes out with his superkick. Both are slow up, but Sombra strikes first with his new backflip double kick to the back. Sombra says this is it – and rips up Volador's mask. Sombra misses a clothesline, shoulderblocks Volador, hides in the ropes, and takes the dropkick to the floor. Volador topes Sombra. Crowd shot clip. Atlantis has UG down, but picks him up and slams him one more time. Atlantis sets up for a moonsault (?!?!) but takes way too long. Sombra comes back in the meantime, but takes a Volador superkick, then UG boots Volador into a dropkick to crotch Atlantis. UG lands his own senton de la muerte on Sombra, then turns back to Atlantis - Guerrero Special there. UG pulls Atlantis out of Volador's running room, so he can run across the ring to give Sombra the Volador Spiral. One two three

Watching the Terra version of the next match because why not. Fox appears to have edited a few minutes from the third fall, including the dropkick off the apron. Terra looks awful on my TV, wonder how I screwed it up.

Match 3: Rush vs Hiroshi Tanahashi for the CMLL Universal Championship and in a tournament final match
Arena Mexico, 09/06/2013

  1. Rush suplex (3:20)
  2. Tanahashi German suplex (1:37)
  3. Tanahashi High Fly Flow (12:09)

Winner: Tanahashi (2-1)
Match Time: 17:06
Rating: good
Notes: Referee is Rafael el Maya. Okumura and Sombra are seconds.

1: It takes a while for them to start up, then there's a scramble on the mat where no one gets control. Standoff, and back to the mat, for another scramble. This time, both get holds to last a second or two, but not much more than that. Crowd is whistling already. Rush misses a big head kick on Tanahashi, Tanahashi misses one clothesline but not the next. Tanahashi uppercuts Rush in the corner, but miss a corner splash. Tanahashi flings Rush to the apron, Rush slaps Tanahashi back in, and goes up – missile dropkick this awkwardly hits. Rush suplex, none two three. Wait, a suplex? Yep.

2: Announcers talk about the fans chanting Viva Mexico, but they're not. They're kind of against both guys. Rush overhead belly to belly suplexes Tanahashi, poses at the crowd, then walks around kicks Tanahashi a bit. Chop fight is mostly Rush telling Tanahashi to hit him harder and Tanahashi not getting it. Tanahashi slaps Rush in the face, Rush dropkicks and and stomps all over him. Rush kicks the invisible football. Corner whip, Tanahashi kicks Rush away, Tanahashi out, clothesline caught and Rush tries to turn it for a suplex but Tanahashi – just doesn't ' go up? Goes halfway up? It looks bad. It's clearly supposed to be blocked based on what happens next, Tanahashi getting in behind, teasing the Dragon suplex, and getting the German suplex for the pin. Tanahashi looks like he knows exactly how bad that spot was.

3: Tanahashi stays on Rush, sandwiching him in the corner with a splash. Tanahashi misses a corner charge, and Rush dropkicks him out, then follows with a big tope. Rush throws Tanahashi in, and gets a near fall with a northern lights suplex. One two NO. Rush kicks Tanahashi as he gets up. Rush chops Tanahashi hard, which gets the crowd into it. Corner whip, corner clothesline, bulldog out. One two NO. Rush powerslams Tanahashi, still two. Rush switches to kicks, but Tanahashi catches one and dragon screws him. Rush out, and Tanahashi follows with a frog splash plancha to the floor. Both are down for a moment. Both back in, Corner whip, reversed, Tanahashi reverse plancha for two. Tanahashi wins a short strike battle, flips Tanahashi to the apron, but Tanahashi pulls him down by his hair. Rush gets back up, superkicks Tanahashi off the apron, teases a tope, then goes to the apron for a dropkick from there. That's the best looking spot of the match. Rush throws Tanahashi back in and covers for two. Rush sets up Tanahashi on the top rope and slaps him there. Rush climbs up, top rope superplex, one two NO. Crowd thought that was it. Rush drops Tanahashi near the corner, stomps at him, and goes to the apron. Rush looks around before going up, and the crowd does not think this is wise. Tope rope senton misses. Tanahashi to the apron, posing on his way up. High Fly Flow MISSES. This is the point where it seems like Rush could actually win, because Tanahashi has to try at least one of those before the match can end. Rush crawls on top to cover, but it's still only two. Tanahashi and Rush chop each other hard, Rush hitting harder and telling Tanahashi to hit him in the face. Hard face slaps leading to them both hitting each other at the same time and barely staying up, twice. Tanahashi ducks the third, German suplex one two NO. Crowd actually wants Rush to win at this point. Corner whip, reversed, Rush slaps Tanahashi in the face, and then gets in the hard corner dropkick. Crowd gets loud. Rush drags Tanahashi to the corner of the ring, Rush Driver, Tanahashi blocks, Tanahashi blocks again and backdrops out. Sling Blade, High Fly Flow, one two three.

Tanahashi is awarded the belt.
