CMLL Arena Puebla - 02/08/09 (#22)
Recapped: 02/14/09

Match 1: Toro Bill Sr., Toro Bill Jr., Policeman (c) vs Lestat, Asturiano, Centella de Oro (c)
Arena Puebla, 02/02/09

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:10
Approx Rating: Good. Toros bump big.
Other Match Notes: What bizarre happy music for Lestat! Refs are Bestia Negra and Rafa el Maya

1: Much less mat work and more brawling and flying for the first fall. Toro Bill Sr. takes a monkey flip from Lestat, and that's a big bump for a big man. Centella de Oro gets the other two with an armdrags headscissors combo, Asturiano is boosted into a dropkick on both, and Centella helps him up to the top rope for a plancha on Toro Bill Jr.. Centella hits the springboard plancha. Inside the ring, Lestat gets Toro Sr. with a tope con giro and a casita for the fall.

2: All three tecnicos get showcases, and Asturiano is going for seconds when Toro Jr. ducks a 619. Asturiano is totally lost for a second, and gets dropkicked in the back by Policeman so Toro Bill Jr. can do his own 619. Asturiano dropkicked out, and Toro Jr. gets him with a tope. Policeman cleans Lestat off the apron, and Toro Bill takes Centella all the way to the top for a side belly to belly suplex! Toro Sr. lays Centella in position for a Policeman top rope senton, and pins him with one foot as the Toros hold Lestat in a double armbar.

3: Everyone lounges in between falls, picking up the beatdown just as the whistle blows. Toro Bill Sr. smashes everyone with his size., but gets Policeman and Toro Jr. instead of Centella de Oro on the third try. Asturiano and Lestat brawl with the other two on the outside as Toro Sr. begs off, and eventually eats a backbreaker. Policeman is hung in the Tree of Woe, and the tecnicos all hit triple dropkicks. As they go back to the one on ones, Toro Sr. takes a hiptoss to the floor – the man will take big bumps. Centella de Oro flips his partner into a moonsault onto Toro Sr. on the floor. It breaks down from there, and Lestat ends up dropkicking Toro Jr. out to get him with a tope con giro, though he mostly goes over him. Captains, who were in briefly before being dropkicked out, come back in. Policeman's more concerned with the chants than the fight. Policeman ends up jumping off the top rope into Centella de Oro's feet, and Centella puts him in a submission for the win.

Match 2: Dr. X, Skandalo, Arkangel (c) vs Pegasso, Mascara Purpura, Stuka Jr. (c)
Arena Puebla, 02/02/09

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. rudos

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 16:04
Approx Rating: Eh.
Other Match Notes: It feels like Purpura is trying hard to show a personality nowadays. Stuka has the Ugly Belt. Tuareg come out as a unit. Refs are Bestia Negra and Rafa el Maya, who are the only refs the rest of the show (unless I forgot something.)

1: I want that rudos flag. Teams cycle thru mat/chain wrestling, and it's the second pair (Arkangel/Stuka) which is the most interesting for sure. Things don't speed up until the second time thru, which makes for a long fall. Dr. X gets whipped into the tecnico corner, sidesteps a charge and knocks Stuka and Pegasso off the apron before clothesline Purpura. Dr. X celebrates his destruction with his partners, only to get backdropped to the apron on his next charge and pulled to the floor by the tecnicos. Arkangel comes over to stick up for his partner and gets chopped down. Pegasso gets Arkangel with a plancha, only to be pulled down by Skandalo. Skandalo spreads his legs so Nitro can hit a questionably low elbow drop for a pin – that's legal? Skandalo gets Stuka with a submission, and that's the fall.

2: Beatdown, just as the fall starts. Stuka takes corner clotheslines and a questionably low dropkick. Purpura takes a running Skandalo sit on the ropes. Pegasso gets a lot of little, and then oddly a double back elbow with no follow up to finish him. That seemed like no one knew what they wanted to do. Triple boot for Stuka. Pegasso flips over a double backdrop, then tricks the rudos into chopping Arkangel down. Rudos miss a follow up clothesline, and Pegasso goes out with a tope on Arkangel to ignore the comeback. Purpura planchas both guys left standing, then Stuka boosts him into a slow 'rana on Dr. X. Stuka gets Skandalo with a move we don't really see, and that's the fall.

3: Stuka showcase sets up a triple dive spot – Stuka Asai moonsault while the others do top con giros. It's a nice looking spot. Tecnicos all try for more Asai bits, but get tripped up and pulled down. Stuka's thrown back in and the Skandalo Driver finishes him off.

Match 3: Felino, Negro Casas (c), Heavy Metal vs Sagrado, La Mascara, Volador Jr. (c)
Arena Puebla, 02/02/09

  1. rudos
  2. tecncos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 15:18
Approx Rating: by the numbers
Other Match Notes: Mascara has his title. Same refs

1: A little bit of pretend to do mat wrestling, and then Pesta Negra jumps the tecnicos. Beatdown for the fall. Metal holds on a figure four sleeper on Sagrado for a long time, pulling off his mask at the same time, but no DQ.

2: Mascara uses his super power of stepping out of the way of corner charges to start another comeback. He's able to take out Negro and Metal, and Sagrado gets Felino with a springboard headscissors. Felino is down and grabbing his left knee after that as the tecnicos work over the others. A bit of disorganization after, but all the tecnicos end up cradling all the rudos for pins.

3: Técnico showcases – Volador, La Mascara (more Pesta Negra comedy, though it's in all of them), Sagrado. Dive spot is a triple tope, and the tecnicos take it back after they get in the ring.

Match 4: Ultimo Guerrero, Atlantis (c), Mr. Niebla vs Toscano, Hector Garza, Marco Corleone (c)
Arena Puebla, 02/02/09

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time:14:35
Approx Rating: Niebla/Marco still is money
Other Match Notes: Toscano is in quite the happy mood going to the ring for whatever reason. Rudos enter as a unit. Técnico are generally scared of Niebla's smelliness.

1: I don't know why, but Hector Garza walks all the way to the back, and then walks back as the match starts. He's limping and grabbing his right knee on the way back, so perhaps that's a clue. Atlantis out wrestles Toscano. Niebla/Marco dance off. Niebla does not win the test of strength. Marco does do the Niebla pose. Niebla does take multiple punches of stone until he begs off and collapses. Hector takes off the shirt early when facing UG. UG doesn't wait for him to take it off an chops it. Garza throws it down, UG reaches down to pick it up, and Garza kicks him in the face. Garza clotheslines them both out, and everyone else sends in. Corleone misses the stone punch on Niebla, and Niebla flagrantly low blow kicks him with both refs somehow missing it. Toscano's bodyscissors cradle is blocked, and Niebla finishes off Marco with a half crab. I want to see him try to get the Nieblina on Marco.

2: Rudo beatdown, in progress. UG gets the headstand sit on Marco. Toscano take the Guerrero flying sit. Hector reverses a corner charge the second time in for his usual run. Corleone roaring before his double clothesline is funny, and then he boosts Toscano in a double clothesline on the rudos as they get back to their fee. Tecnicos kinda losing their momentum waiting for something to happen, Toscano sets up a spot on Atlantis but they're not on the same page, and then Toscano just randomly cradles him for the pin. Garza chases UG around the ring, corners him in the ring, and unties his mask. If that's supposed to be the issue, they haven't done a great job building it.

3: UG has finally figured out a counter to Marco leaping over him – backing up! That's why he's the best technical wrestler. Atlantis laughs at Marco and gets punched off the apron, then Marco gets leapfrogged once they get running Stone punch for him, hip swivel for the ref too. Atlantis tires a sunset flip, and that get the dance. Niebla stops that with a punch and does his own version of it, and can't stop. Atlantis and Niebla whip Marco cross the ring, but he hits the springboard clothesline on Atlantis. Niebla doesn't realize he's there as he back s up and freaks out when he sees him. Niebla's chops have no affect Niebla choices to kiss his hand and run, but falls off the apron while escaping. Toscano is neither bad nor interesting. Hector Garza shows know sign of his earlier knee injury during his showcase. UG takes the knee bump to the floor, but the rudos kick Garza in the (now bad) knee to send him out. This leaves the other four in, and Toscano's double dropkick on them looks very bad, because of Atlantis' very delayed sell. Toscano gets Niebla with a dive, and they clip out Marco's clothesline on Atlantis. UG and Hector back in, Hector get a shoulderblock and a moonsault bodyblock, one two three. Eh.

Hector is down and not getting up after the pin, but making belt motions. Fans are getting out of there before any promo is made, and I don't think it's that clear what's going on until Hector gets up and starts making the same belt motions. Hector cuts a promo in the back to make the challenge and UG escapes.
