CMLL CadenaTres - 02/07/09 (#62)

Match 1: Vangelis, Okumura, Virus (c) vs Valiente (c), Mascara Dorada, Mascara Purpura
Arena Mexico, 02/03/09

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 14:14
Approx Rating: Nothing too intersting.
Other Match Notes: No entrances. No lineups either, at least from where I join in. Welcome to limbo.

1: Oh, they choose to show it while Valiente and Virus are already on the mat, that's a way of doing it. Valiente/Virus start off on the mat, Vangelis (looking more like Evil Tony Rivera) are in for a short period, but the crowd just hates Dorada for existence. Purpura is fired up and ends up with a tope con giro on Okumura. Valiente armdrags Virus into a step over armbar. I assume they're the captains, but Dorada gets Vangelis with a bodyscissors into a small package too. Who's the person who brought a Vangelis sign with a Nazi symbol? That's not the way to go.

2: Rudos are randomly brawling and beating down the tecnicos as they come back from break. 3 on 1s aren't too interesting. Virus gives Purpura the layout face powerbomb. The referees scared to think he's going to martinete him the whole way. Dorada takes a fireman's drop and a Vangelis splash for one pin. Valiente, who seems slimmer today, eats a Okumura missile dropkick and a Virus half crab/armbar.

3: Rudos still in control. Killing time until the comeback spot, really. Not a lot interesting. Virus randomly runs into a Valiente backdrop to start the comeback. Valiente knocks the other two rudos away, monkey flips Mascara Dorada to his feet for no perceivable reason, and gives Virus a spinning backbreaker. Purpura adds a springboard dropkicks to knock Virus out, and Dorada follows with his tope con giro. Vangelis gets superkicked, but recovers to backdrop Purpura to the apron, but Valiente kicks Okumura down on the apron, then gives Vangelis a back heel trip and sets him up. Shooting Star Press connects. One two three. Valiente gives Okumura the layout chest breaker, and that's the match.

Match 2: Heavy Metal, Hijo de Lizmark, Texano Jr. (c) vs Blue Panther, Hector Garza, Marco Corleone (c)
Arena Mexico, 02/03/09

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 16:12
Approx Rating: Ok.
Other Match Notes:

1: Panther gets Lizmark in a submissions, Metal and Texano rush in to break it up, tecnicos run them off, rudos run them off, repeat. We go thru this cycle three times before the tecnicos think about breaking up a Lizmark hold, but Panther really doesn't need much help there. Rudos rush in again on the fourth time, but the tecnicos cut them off. Too bad they still get stomped (though Marco briefly gets the best of his fight.) Beatdown. Garza gets bit on the but, check. Panther take a double drop toe hold to set up the casita, but the big team move on Garza goes bad, tecnicos tripping up the rudos from outside as they run to add something to Texano's wheelbarrow, and Garza reverses into a bodyscissors cradle for the rare come from behind win. Lizmark and Metal are angry at Texano, even though they lost just as bad.

POETRY!

2: Garza takes off his shirt, check. Is this only a two fall match? Garza being distracted by his shirt after taking it off is quickly becoming another required spot. Marco actually gets to wrestle this fall, though Metal wants nothing to do with him. Metal's shoulderblock can't knock him down, so Texano has an idea. He goes on all fours, and Metal climbs on top. Now he's got the height advantage – and now he's got Corleone dropkicks him, knocking him over the top rope and out. Texano gets up and is confronted by Corleone's hips. Lots of leapfrogs, one big stone punch. He even back off a ref teasing the punch. Lizmark in to go face to face, and muscle to muscle. Lizmark actually survives multiple stone punches and superkicks Corleone to knock hard. Panther has to come in to see if Marco is still with us. Lizmark goes to check on him, and Marco comes back with punches and stomps down Lizmark to much boos from the male fans. Marco goes up the ramp and sets up, but Lizmark decides to stay in the corner and hide. So Marco just goes around the outside to his corner. Odd ending. Panther starts to work over Texano, but the rudos start the beatdown gain, and don't screw around this time. Texano slams Garza and lands springboard spinning senton con giro for one pin. Metal gets that casita again.

3: Beatdown quickly ends, Garza reversing a Metal charge into sending him to the apron, and kick the other rudos away. Garza rolls under a double clothesline and Corleone connects on his own. Brawling. Rudos whipped in each other, and then whipped into backbreakers. Tecnicos line everyone up, Corleone hits the superman's dive, and Panther boots Garza into a standing moonsault on the pile for the finish. That was quick.

Match 3: Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca (c), Black Warrior vs Sombra, Volador Jr. (c), Sagrado for the Mexican National Championship
Arena Mexico, 02/03/09

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: rudos (2-1), new champions
Match Time: 19:35
Approx Rating: Good, better when Dragon Rojo wasn't involved.
Other Match Notes: O: Dragon Rojo Jr. is dressed like an Apache, with a bow and arrow and headdress in what surely must've been Sangre's idea. Warrior has a headdress on his normal styling gear, and he almost pulls it off. Sangre Azteca has the big headdress. Tecnicos are wearing bodypaint and combo masks. Sombra has all three belts. Volador has two belts – the tag belt and one that is clearly not the trios belt, though he keeps the front from being easily seen for most of his trip. Oh, and a big Pittsburgh Steelers coat. Who knew he was a fan? Belt picture is clipped out.

1: Dragon Rojo and Sagrado to start. At least I think that's Sagrado. Sagrado waistlock Rojo out into a hammerlock, Sagrado revers to a headlock, then into an armbar. Dragon Rojo tries to slip thru the back for a cradle, but Sagrado rolls thru to an armbar, then gets his own inside cradle for two. Dragon Rojo is not good on the mat, not a surprise at this point. Rojo tries a bit more, gets armdragged down, and armdrags Sagrado from there. Zero leg trips, standoff. Dragon Rojo refuses to go quietly, shoving Sagrado. Sagrado shoves him back in to his corner. Dragon Rojo chest slap, Sagrado chest slaps back. Dragon slaps back, Sagrado goes for a kick, Dragon Rojo blocks it and gets in his own kick. Sagrado rolls to his corner and Sombra flattens Dragon Rojo with a springboard plancha. Wristlock, chest slap, Sombra walks the ropes, rope flip headscissors ends Rojo out. Warrior slings into the ring to take his place. Loud Sombra chant. Or my volume is way turned up, that too. Lockup, break. Lockup again, battling for control of a half nelson, Warrior trips Sombra to his back, Sombra rolls off his back up to a fireman's carry escape armdrag. Both get caught going for the same thing, but Warrior takes control with an armdrag an armbar. Sombra kips up, Warrior twists him over, back to the mat. Warrior holding him down for a second. Sombra kips up and drags Warrior away, Warrior charges into another armdrag, zero leg trip, pose/dance off. Sombra is offended, and also tripped up from outside by Sangre Azteca. He takes in over Sombra, pausing to annoy the Sombra fans. Corner whip, Sangre charges, and eats a kick. Sombra makes the tag to Volador, who springboards into the ring only to get kicked. Corner whip, Sangre charges in, Volador kicks him away, and Sagrado slingshots into monkey flip his partner into a sunset flip on Sangre Azteca. Azteca rolls free, and takes a headscissors from Sombra. Dragon Rojo tries to Sombra, but misses. Volador waits a bit for Dragon Rojo to getup, then gets him with a double spinning headscissors. Both Sangre and Dragon are on the floor, so Sangre & Volador high ten, charge, and hip toss on them. Sagrado and Warrior left in. Warrior not in a hurry to do this, but tries to surprise Sagrado with a whip, Sagrado reverses, and trips Warrior into the hamstring bump off the ropes. Warrior celebrates landing on his feet and gets superkicked. Springboard corner moonsault, one two three. Sangre's the captain, and they quietly count him out.

2: Sombra gets surprised by a Dragon Rojo shove to start the fall. Dragon Rojo celebrate, and gets shoved back. Headlock, shot off, Sombra back with a flipping run, Dragon Rojo charges him in the corner, Sombra catches him and puts him on the top rope. Sombra leaps up top to join him, and gets him with a bodyscissors armdrags from the middle rope. That's different. Sombra charges Dragon Rojo as he recovers, and Dragon Rojo backdrops him to the apron. Fine with Sombra – springboard somersault headscissors on Dragon Rojo to send him out. Sangre in, and another standoff. Sombra shoulderblock, off the ropes, and dropped by a Sangre wheel kick. Volador in for his partner, and they too have to circle around before they can fight. Dueling challenges and shots of the fans as they start. Sangre shrugs of a monkey flip attempt (he can do that?) and catches Volador in a torture track, but Volador spins out into a headscissors and sends Sangre out. Volador starts running for a dive, and eats a big boot from Warrior. Sagrado in for him, and another standoff. Sagrado springboard plancha connects, Sagrado back up to armdrag Warrior all over the place. Warrior stops that flurry with a kick and struts away to set up a charge. Corner charge gets Warrior tossed up into the post, then enziguri-ed after he escapes the corner. Sagrado walks Warrior to the rudo corner and tries chopping him there, though he's got to fight off Sangre Azteca at the same time. Sagrado corner whip, reversed, Sagrado ends up in the tecnico corner and kicking Warrior away. All the rudos charge Sagrado, so Volador and Sombra leap in to do sunset flip at the same time as Sagrado, only for all the rudos to escape and dropkick their opponents. Rudos quickly organize the tecnicos in a line – pyramid triple submission, with Warrior posing on top. That's the fall.

3: Volador and Warrior to start, and two mixed chants. Rudos mix it up , rushing the ring for a beatdown. Volador is press slammed into Warrior's feet. Sombra is surrounded, and sat up into a dropkick. Sagrado comes up short on a dropkick and is held in a double armbar. Warrior fools around to set up whatever the big blow is, but get tripped and pulled out by Volador. Sombra dropkicks the other two out from behind, and the tecnicos set up – triple tope con giro! Sagrado and Sangre are the first to pull themselves in. Sagrado misses a clothesline and stumbles to the ropes. Sagrado charges and get tossed to the apron, but pulls Sangre down by the mask. Springboard moonsault, Sagrado careful on it, one two no. Sagrado sets up Sangre in the corner for a chest slap. Corner whip, reversed, Sangre charge in and eats a boot. Sagrado charges out, sunset flip, Sangre rolls thru, backs up, Sagrado just watches him, and Sangre dropkicks him questionably low. Sagrado and Sombra throw some slaps, and Sangre jumps on Sagrado's shoulder for something, but Sagrado keeps him there so Volador can adds a springboard headscissors. Warrior breaks that up with a stomp. Sagrado stays in to fight him and takes a wheel kick. One two Sombra breaks it up but Sagrado's kicked out anyway. Sagrado clothesline caught, and reversed into a DDT, one two and Sombra breaks it for sure that time. Crowd boos? Sombra stays in and chops Sombra. Whip, reverses, Sombra 'rana, Warrior reverses into his own pin, one two no. Warrior chops Sombra in the corner. Corner whip, charge, no one home for Warrior again. Sombra fireman's drops him in position and heads up – rope flip moonsault eats feet. Or at least enough for them. Warrior reaches down to pick up Sombra, and Sombra small package shim one two Rojo break it up. Warrior leaves Rojo in to fight Sombra. Corner whip, Sombra tries to get his feet up and the last second and the two sort of collide more than anything else. Sombra takes charge with a chop, then fights for, and pulls of a powerbomb. That looked very hard for Sombra, he and Rojo not on the same page or something. One two no. Sombra off the ropes for 'rana, but Rojo blocks it, bounces him on the top rope, and turns to powerbomb him down one two no. Volador breaks it up, which again has part of the crowd booing. Volador reacts to it a bit, in hopes to get the tecnico fans to cheer back, and they do a bit.

Volador pushes Dragon Rojo into the corner and shrugs off his chest slaps. Superkick is totally telegraphed and and doesn't look so good, but doesn't have much affect. Corner whip, reversed, Dragon Rojo makes it to the apron and climbs up, but Volador joins him. Both standing on the top rope – off the top rope 'rana! One two NO. Thought someone would've broke it up that time. Warrior waking off the apron to yell at some fans, with his odd. Rojo and Volador and are slow setting up, but Volador ducks the clothesline and makes sure to do a better superkick this time (even if it took three steps to set it up.) Rojo and Volador continue to look unsure of each other, but Dragon Rojo is able to put Volador on the top rope and keep him there with chops. With every chest slap, Volador is makes sure to pose and prove it had no effect om it, and he's been doing it since the start of this fall. It's very odd to keep doing it. Volador and Rojo end up both standing on the middle rope and fighting, then positioning. Sombra does the work, springboarding in with a headscissors on Dragon Rojo. Volador just hands out on the top rope, and Sombra stays on the mat waiting for something – I guess waiting for the other duos to come in so the other tecnicos can get them with a 'rana and a bodyscissors cradle. Sombra over his man too, One two everyone kicks out. Rudos clear the ring of everyone but Volador real quick. Whip, boost, and Volador dropkicks both of Sangre's partners with Sangre being much aware of it. Volador gets Sangre with a spinning headscissors the other way and goes up – how many photographers do we have for this match? 15? - and Volador lands the moonsault to the floor. Sangre and Warrior in, Sagrado hitting the medium high thrust kick, charging, and taking the big monkey flip to the floor. As not fun as that was, Sagrado really isn't going to want to get up here – bullet tope! Sombra and Dragon Rojo in, crowd getting louder. Dragon Rojo somehow shrugs off Sombra's handspring body attack, yet another odd looking spot with Dragon Rojo. Whip, Warrior pulls out Sombra, and Dragon just watches him. Sangre in, with Dragon Rojo warning him about Volador coming back in – warning him too late, since Volador still hits the plancha on Sangre and superkicks Dragon Rojo. Meanwhile, Warrior's ticked off Sagrado by pulling out Sombra and stomping him, and both those tecnicos are backing Warrior up the ramp. Warrior is more than content to keep them chasing, for reasons that'll become obvious a second later. In the ring, Volador misses a clothesline on Sangre, and Sangre shoves him over to Dragon Rojo, who sets hmi up on the top rope. Sangre immediately charge and gets the over the top headscissors, and Dragon Rojo adds a springboard plancha. Crowd senses it – one two THREE. Sagrado figured it out a moment too late, Warrior was just luring them away to leave the captain out manned.

Rojo and Sangre are euphoric. Black Warrior is proud of being just so smart. They play his music, and they should. Rudos celebrate like they've won a major championship of some kind. Oh, yea. Sangre and Dragon Rojo get the belts put on them, while Warrior stays in the background holding the belt of mystery, and also asking someone why he's got a belt that's not the trios belt. He didn't ask Volador, so I guess he's out of luck. Everyone do the warrior hip thrust. Tecnicos are offended, but they're losers so they have nothing to say here. Warrior gets the microphone to point out they won, clean, in the middle of Arena Mexico, and says they'd like a tag team title chance next. Or masks and hair, whatever. Brief sportsmanship handshakes, but clearly between two sides who still don't like each other much.

You can see Warrior's random belt even clearer in the backstage interview (which I've been totally ignoring all show), but I can't tell which one it is. I bet it's Sangre's, that makes too much sense.
