CMLL Arena Puebla - 01/11/09

Match 1: Karisma (c), Mr. Rafaga, Siki Osama Jr. vs Black Tiger, Centella de Oro (c), Tigre Rojo
Arena Puebla, 01/05/09

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 16:02
Approx Rating: very good
Other Match Notes: Refs are Rafa el Maya and Terror Chino.

1: Mat opening. Pairs are Rojo/Karisma, Oro/Siki - where the other tecnicos jump in and help Centella de Oro, which seems strange to me. Unproved and all. Centella just gets out at the first opportunity, he's not dealing with that. Black Tiger goes thru everyone, including a jumping tope on Karisma. Everything is smooth. Centella de Oro and Siki Osama come back to start the end game, and it's ridiculously intricate and effectively done.

Siki Osama scoops up Centella de Oro for a martinete. Centella reverses it into his own, Centella re-reverses it, Centella de Oro slips out the back. Siki Osama stops to pose, so Centella naturally does a headstand to headscissors Siki Osama from behind, then pulls himself up on Siki's shoulders. Siki blocks the headscissors roll and walks to his corner for the rudos to add their own move, but Black Tiger rushes in first and shoves Centella over, giving him enough momentum to complete the role. Mr. Rafaga is already on the top rope, so he hits the plancha on Black Tiger. The last members of the match come in, and Karissma misses a clothesline on Black Tiger as Tigre Rojo misses one on Mr. Rafaga. Tigre Rojo kick Mr. Rafaga in the midsection, and Black Tiger pauses Karisma with a shoulderblock. Black Tiger pushed to the corner, jumps to the ropes, and lands the moonsault bodyblock. Tiger does not cover, but instead goes to all fours over Espiritu, which seems confusing - until Tigre Rojo runs and leaps off his back for a plancha/clothesline on Osama as he tries to break up the pin. Black Tiger leans down to cover Karissma for the fall, while Centella de Oro whips Rafaga and catches him in the Atlántida for fun.

2: Centella runs thru the rudos, with Karissma claiming a low blow and rolling out late. (It hit him in the stomach, as the replay points out.) Rafaga gets enough of Tiger Rojo to hold him for Siki Osama kick, and the rudos decide to start the beatdown from there. Black Tiger is tied in the corner for a dropkick. Double press bomb on Centella de Oro, Centella hitting the mat hard and ugly. Tiger Rojo takes corner clotheslines and jumping knees. Black Tiger take a big double backdrop, and Siki Osama bites him thru the mask, I think. Karissma finishes Centella de Oro with a nice frog splash. Mr. Rafaga gives Tiger Rojo a Fireman's drop and holds on a half crab armbar thing for the other submission.

3: This is the only fall that seems JIP. I may have screwed up on the edit, actually, but the beatdown is still going so I couldn't have done too bad. Centella de Oro is whipped in the corner, Mr. Rafaga is whipped after him, but no one's home. Karissma goes down on one chop and Centella de Oro chases him into the stands as Black Tiger runs things around on Siki Osama Jr. Crowd brawling in the opener. Karissma gets brought in and takes legdrops from two, and Centella de Oro's spinning elbow drop. Everyone's headed to the corners for the last stretch. Karissma comes back a bit on Tiger Rojo, but Tiger Rojo manages to get him to hit his partners, then armdrags everyone. Everyone ends up inside after that, tecnicos dropkick all the rudos out on the same side (and the fans on that side start to skatter.) Black Tiger Asai moonsault, topes by the other two! Tecnicos regroup and throw Siki back in. Double backdrop for him, and he's held in position for Tiger Rojo's top rope splash. One two three. Tecnicos celebrate - don't you need one more? Announcer say Karissma's counted out, and the referees eventually agree.

Match 2: Ares, Espiritu Maligno (c), Fuerza Chicana vs Asturiano (c), Blue Center, Lestat
Arena Puebla, 01/05/09

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:37
Approx Rating: fun
Other Match Notes: After everyone gets their gear off, Asturiano rushes Espiritu and knocks him down with punches. Everyone's a bit stunned to break it up at first.

1: Rudos ditch him, as Espiritu goes out. Other tecnicos dropkick the other rudos, then follow with a tope and tope con giro from Lestat. Asturiano comes back in and as they leave. Espiritu tires to springboard plancha in, and Asturiano knocks him out of the sky with a dropkick! That was 1.0 Sangre, for sure. Possibly higher. It's also the finish.

2: It seems like it's going to be an Asturiano showcase to start, and he ditches Ares quick enough, but Espiritu manages to counter an Asturiano armdrag with a springboard one of his own. Lestat in quick and headscissoring Espiritu around. Springboard flip. Once standing, Lestat gets in an armdrag - I guess that was supposed to be connected. Fuerza headscissors Lestat and drops him with a tilt-a-whirl slam. Blue Center gets Fuerza with a bodyscissors armdrag and an up and over armdrag. Blue stops to celebrate, only to get shoulderblocks into the corner by Ares. Ares charges, Center tosses him up, and Ares corner headscissors him out. They're solidly in a no pause zone. Ares doesn't pause himself, moving out of the way of an Asturiano top rope plancha. Ares kick Asturiano as he gets up, and Espiritu comes in to hold him for other people to hit. (Which they're not quickly doing, but people are busy.) Fuerza flapjacks Asturiano, and Espiritu and Ares take turn hitting dropkick to the head. Lestat takes a backdrop. Blue Center is given a bad double backdrop, so Fuerza gives him a proper one. Back to Asturiano, Ares charges but misses with the clothesline, and Asturiano armdrags him to the ropes before dropkicking him out. Asturiano runs for a dive, but Espiritu Maligno cuts him off with a dropkick from the apron as Asturiano comes thru. Espiritu in, big fast tope. Fuerza backdrops Bleu Center and dropkicks him out, then holds near the ropes as Ares charges - backdrop into a tope con giro! Lestat back in and shoulderblock Fuerza. Lestat comes off the ropes again, then springboards on the ropes near Fuerza for a bulldog, but Fuerza shoves him off into a faceslam. Fuerza covering, Espiritu back into help, and that's a pin. The others are counted out, and it's tied up.

3: Rudos in control, and Asturiano worked on over the ropes while the others are kept at bay. Lots of mask ripping going on. Espiritu dropkicks Asturiano out of the ring, which is slightly problematic because on one else is in. Espiritu goes out after Asturiano, but in the meantime, Lestat comes in. Looks like Ares has Blue Center and is working over him too, didn't see that. Distracted by the announcers talking about Alex Koslov and Jack Evans. Rudos generally working over the tecnicos and ripping masks up. Asturiano starts the comeback when the rudos are jus lazy holding him to be hi , and Asturiano realize he's got an arm free to chop everyone. He gets Ares down and goes after his mask while the other tecnico get revenge outside the ring. When it settles back down, Lestat and Fuerza are left in, and Lestat headscissors Fuerza out. Lestat poses, slings to the apron, and gets Fuerza with an Asia Moonsault. Espiritu adds a top rope springboard moonsault of his own! Asturiano helps Blue Center to the top rope for a tope con giro of his own. Asturiano goes for his own dive, but Ares cuts him of with a backdrop, then moonsaults to the floor onto the growing pile. While Asturiano do his dive now? He waves to the crowd, runs up to the corner, and jump off with a half spin tornillo onto everyone. Everyone battles on the outside - are they going to make it back in? yea, they all come back in! Three brawling fights in the ring at the same time, rudos all end up with a cradle pins, one two everyone kicks out. Sunset flips by all the tecnicos one two NO. Blue Center and Lestat dropkick out their men, Espiritu comes off the ropes at Asturiano, and Asturiano powerbombs him down. One two no, Asturiano moves out of the wya for a Blue Center adds a springboard moonsault, and both clear out of the way for a Lestat top rope splash. One two three!

Match 3: Euforia vs Sagrado vs Nosferatu vs Loco Max vs Skandalo, Virus vs Hijo del Fantasma vs Sagrado vs Valiente vs Pegasso vs Mascara Dorada in a cibernetico
Arena Puebla, 01/05/09

  1. Skandalo Driver on Valiente (8:25)
  2. Valiente layout chestbreaker Loco Max (9:37)
  3. eliminated due to injury: Mascara Dorada (9:50)
  4. Sagrado springboard moonsault Skandalo (9:56)
  5. Virus Gory Driver Valiente (10:59)
  6. Sagrado springboard moonsault Virus (14:05)
  7. Fantasma short arm scissors Nosferatu (16:09)
  8. Euforia Special on Sagrado (19:07)
  9. Hijo del Fantasma tapatia Fantasma (22:52)

Winner: Hijo del Fantasma
Match Time: 22:52
Approx Rating: Fun enough, though no particular story.
Other Match Notes: Pegasso seems to have grown a second horn in CMLL. That's just how much tougher it is than AAA. (No, that doesn't make any sense.) Loco max is very bald, so no hair matches soon. Rudos rip the CMLL shirt off of Pegasso before the match, which isn't very nice.

Everyone else clears out, and Loco and Pegasso start off. Lockup, Pegasso backed up into the corner, and pushing Loco back. Lockup, Loco with a waistlock, beatdown, Pegasso gets an armdrag from his back and flips to his feet. Circle. Lockup, Loco flips Pegasso over his back, trip, Pegasso with an armdrags, Loco trips Pegasso, standoff. Not so much standing, lots of circling.

Tags to Euforia and Valiente. Circle. Lockup, break. Lockup, Valiente armdrag, and forward flip to cut off Euforia. Lockup, Euforia with a back heel trip, Valiente kips up from the mat multiples to set up the armdrag. Euforia is a bit intimated by the jumping.

Tags to Nosferatu and Sagrada. Circle. Lockup, Nosferatu waistlock, Dorada hammerlock, Nosferatu headlock of his own, up to a double wristlock, Nosferatu's going to win that even without the trip, but trip he does. Dorada spins out to a takedown, pulls Nosferatu back up, and takes him down with a wristlock. Holding him down there - but Nosferatu's got his foot on the ropes. Dorada slides out out, close enough to the rudo to almost cause a fight. Both sides standoff, and Virus shoves Valiente, but nothing comes of it. Nosferatu had a discussion with a front row family.

Virus and Fantasma resume in the ring. Fantasma strips off his shirt, which gets a reaction. Posing. [] Virus pretends to pose himself, then surprises Fantasma with a kick. Fantasma shot off, back with a shoulderblock. Fantasma off the ropes, over, waved by, and back with a bodyscissors into an armdrags. Fantasma sure likes clapping between moves. Fantasma charges Virus in the corner, Virus moves out of the way, Fantasma goes to the top rope and kicks away Virus' chop. Headscissors end him out, right in the middle of the tecnicos, and Dorada slaps him about while Skandalo knocks down Fantasma with a back elbow in the ring.

Sagrado is ready to go on, but first he has to watch the fight on the outside. Virus gets calmed down and brought back to the rudo corner. Sagrado and Skandalo have a corner pose off to get the fans looking back at them. Sagrado armdrags Skandalo around and gets him with the spinning backbreaker. Skandalo rolls out without getting anything in.

And we're cycled back around to Pegasso and Loco. Pegasso with a takedown, running the corner, cartwheeling and flipping out over loco. Loco charges, Pegasso leaps over. Loco charges back, and gets hiptosses. Whip, no, okay this time for real. Loco reverse, but misses a clothesline and Pegasso headscissors him out. Pegasso gets some speed - tornillo!

Euforia and Valiente in, Valiente stopping to point before fighting. Euforia shoulderblocks Valiente down, and slaps him into the rudos corner. Nosferatu helps hold Valiente for a running kick for Valiente. Corner whip the other way, Valiente moves this time. Valiente dropkick Euforia out, and Nosferatu charges it at him, backdropping Valiente. That was a bit awkward. Dorada comes off the top rope to get Nosferatu with a headscissors, and Valiente is fired up. Valiente Special - into the first row! And just when you think those two (Euforia catching) got the fans pretty good there, Dorada does a top rope Asai moonsault and pretty much kicks the front row fans on the way down. You are close to the action in Arena Puebla!

Virus and Fantasma in, Virus rolling over Fantasma's slide. Fantasma ducks a clothesline, shoulderblock, off the ropes, Virus  misses his handspring back elbow. Fantasma charge again and gets tripped onto the ropes. Virus off the ropes, but Sagrado trips him up and pull out outside. No problem for Virus - one ring post armdrag coming up. This leaves Virus right in position for a Sagrado tope!

(obvious clip here - doesn't seem to have taken off much time.)

Skandalo observers the growing pile from inside the ring and starts ready his own dive, but Pegasso cuts him off with a top rope back elbow. Skandalo back elbows him down, then backs him up to the corner. Corner whip, reversed, Pegasso charges in, Skandalo waves him by, Pegasso runs up the corner...and kinda loses his balance and falls down. Fans get on him as Skandalo ops to go to the corner rather than follow up. Pegasso catches him again, and gets loaded into Skandalo's behind the back powerbomb. One two three. One down!

Valiente and Loco back in after a replay. Loco goes up high on a backdrop. Valiente's fired up. Monkey flip, and Loco again goes very high. Valiente looks around at the crowd, then charge for another. Loco might have gone 4/5ths of the ring on that one. Chestbreaker on Loco max, one two three.

After a replay, Fantasma and Skandalo in. Crowd shot here, and back with Fantasma dropkicking Fantasma. Not a lot of crowd shots on this show. Shot of outside the ring, where Dorada is being loaded up to a stretcher. We haven't seen him since that dive, but I think they've mentioned him still being down. He's eliminated and so is Skandalo, even though we miss that pin looking at Dorada. Sagrado gets the pin anyway.

Replay of Dorada's dive as they make him eliminated - his knees his the chairs, and probably not well.

Valiente and Virus are shown in the ring for a second, but they flash back to Skandalo's elimination -usual Sagrado moonsault.

Now, can we catch up before another elimination? Valiente and Virus are counter clotheslines, Virus wins and drops Valiente with a Gory Driver. We've got Virus and the Infernales vs Fantasma & Sagrado left.

Sagrado and Nosferatu are in and exchange chops after the replay. Sagrado gets knocked down from the outside by Euforia off the ropes, and both Infernales stomp him down. Euforia, in the ring totally illegally, taunts Hijo de Fantasma and then tries to get Rafa el Maya to stop him from coming in. Dude, he's busy stopping you! This actually works, because Maya priorities getting Fantasma out and Euforia can taunt him. Of course, it also doesn't work, because the rudos double whip cause a missed clothesline, and Sagrado to kick both of them. Nosferatu take an enziguri, but Sagrado can't get him to roll over. He tries a submission instead, but Virus is breaking it up anyway. Chest slap battle. Neither man is knocked back, but neither one will go down. Sagrado ducks and hit a Virus shoulderblock him, but Sagrado pulls him down by his hair. Kinda cheap there. Sagrado bodyscissors roll, reversed by Virus one two NO. Virus waves Sagrado by on the run, clips him, and dropkicks him in the face one two NO. Hijo de Fantasma is over close to being done here. Sagrado tries to draw from the crowd, but gets slapped around. Corner whip, Sagrado kip up and out, clothesline caught and turned into a Sagrado backbreaker. Clothesline for Virus. Sagrado drops him in front of to the corner and heads up, can he hit it? Yes, springboard moonsault connects one two three. 2 on 2!

Sagrado gets leveled by an Infernal just before they show the slow motion replay. Both are down as they pick up - it's Nosferatu in the ring with Sagrado. Nosferatu up first and kicking. Suplex? Yes! You never see a suplex. It's exotic. Nosferatu going up, all the way up - but Fantasma clips his leg. That's not very tecnico of him. Euforia retaliates by coming in to boot Sagrado, but Fantasma gets Euforia with a dropkick to send him out. Sagrado wastes no time - TOPE. Nosferatu's still sitting on the top rope, and Fantasma chest slaps him before going all the way up to join him. Top rope 'rana. Fantasma covers, one two NO. Fantasma boots Nosferatu as he gets up. Corner whip, reversed, Nosferatu splashed Fantasma. Fantasma in trouble now. Slam, and Nosferatu heads up. Nosferatu to the middle rope, but Fantasma is already standing. Plancha is caught and taken down - I think that was suppose to be a spear, but it didn't come off that way. Fantasma gets his short armscissors, and that's another elimination. Euforia's the only rudo left, tecnicos have gotten two straight.

Euforia and Fantasma are down in the ring, Euforia waiving something off. Fantasma charge, and takes a spinning backbreaker. Euforia is fired up. Sagrado watches from the apron. Fantasma waves along to the crowd chant. Euforia charges, Fantasma grabs him his clothesline and hooks him, Sagrado comes in for a superkick, but he gets Fantasma. Fantasma goes out, Euforia chops Sagrado but charges into a backdrop to the apron. Euforia keeps Fantasma at bay with a kick, but Sagrado superkicks him to the apron. Sagrado loads up for one more dive - but this tope only gets Fantasma! Euforia is so pleased with himself. Euforia pulls Sagrado off the pile as the refs check Fantasma, and throws him back in. Euforia in and covering, one two NO. Sagrado grabs his left shoulder as Euforia tries to draw form the rudo fans. Both men slow up. Euforia charges, Sagrado kinda grabs him, and then gets around to taking him down. Sagrado casita, Euforia rolls thru to an inside cradle, one two no. Fantasma is finally up on the outside, though not even close to being in his corner. Euforia thinks he can do this. He might want to start by doing something. Charge, Sagrado scoops him up and ropes him in the corner again. Going for that moonsault once again - no one home, but Sagrado lands on his feet. Sagrado clothesline, Euforia catches it and drops him in the Euforia Special! Sagrado is done, it's down to Euforia and Fantasma

Fantasma is backed in the corner as they pick up. Euforia charges, Fantasma backdrops him to the outside, enziguris him there. Euforia stays on the apron, so Fantasma backs up, charges and drops him off with a double jump DDT. Fantasma waits for Euforia to get up - TOPE. Both men down on the outside, Fantasma stopping to talk to a referee before coming in. Euforia in first, Fantasma fights him on the apron, but gets suplexed in. Is that enough? Euforia covers, one two NO. Slooooooow. Euforia waves off the Fantasma chants. Fantasma clothesline blocked, Euforia gets the pumphandle, pumphandle faceslam, but Fantasma gets to close to the ropes before Euforia can lock on the submission - and he's got a foot on the ropes to break it. Euforia looking frustrated for a moment, but then waving to the rudo people to keep chanting. Fantasma looks tired. Euforia off the ropes, hammering Fantasma with a clothesline. He had something left, I guess. Euforia goes for another, Fantasma duck and, pears him on the next pass! Fantasma hooks the legs, grabs the arms, and lets the fans know what he's trying to do - tapatia! Euforia gives, even though one his legs break free.

Fantasma enjoys the money being thrown in.

Match 4: Sangre Azteca vs Mictlan for the Mexican Welterweight Championship

  2. Sangre counter dropkick (1:19)
  3. Sangre cloverleaf (9:30)

Winner: Sangre Azteca
Match Time: 17:06
Approx Rating: Considering who was involved, fine. Mictlan seems limited and generic, but he also didn't have a horrible screw up. Sangre was Sangre.
Other Match Notes: Valiente's changed masks to be Mictlan's second. Loco is in Sangre's corner. Rafael del Maya is ref. Nice title belt graphic.

1: Lockup, Mictlan with a waistlock, and Sangre battles free. Lockup, Mictlan with a takedown, kneebar, and into the facelock. Sangre breaking free from the weakly hold. Mictlan's held on his stomach, but Sangre breaks free and gets Mictlan's back. Chinlock with bodyscissors, Mictlan stands up with the bodyscissors still on, and Sangre counters with a full nelson. That won't work, so Sangre changes to a tiburizon. Mictlan finally is able to shrug him off, and Sangre trips him up before getting away. Circle. Lockup, no, Mictlan just puts on a abdominal stretch on a passive Sangre. Sangre picks the leg to get free, then ties up the legs for a submission. Bow and arrow? Sure. I think I've called three different moves bow and arrows this weekend. Mictlan flips free, Sangre kicks out, and there's a standoff. Another sequence lasts even less, and another standoff. Circle. Sangre armbar, back to the abdominal stretch. Is he going cradle him?  Mictlan tries to fight free, so Sangre reapplies, it then pucks the leg to the suastica. Sangre falls backwards to cradle Mictlan, one two Mictlan escapes. Mictlan keeps Sangre down, spreading his knees, with Sangre still scissoring one leg. Mictlan keeps his shoulders off the mat as Mictlan tries to figure out out what to do. Hammerlock, I guess. Neither man can do enough to get the submissions, so Sangre lets go. Mictlan armdrag, zero leg trip exchange, standoff. Sangre faints looking at the fans and charges Mictlan, but hits the corner. Mictlan dances and chops. Whip, reversed, Mictlan slides under a leapfrog, and Sangre kicks him into the corner anyway. Corner charge misses again, Sangre hits the corner with both hamstrings and bounces to his feet, Mictlan charges and is flipped to the apron. Mictlan backs up, charges, and lands a tope to send Sangre way up the aisle. Ref's not waiting on the countout, and Sangre' a long way from the ring. Both guys slow back in, and Sangre's not up to his feet when Mictlan comes in. Sangre's holding his nose as he comes back to the ring., but makes the count at about 16. Mictlan points to the crowd as Sangre looks around. Sangre charges, misses a clothesline, and Mictlan gets him with a waistlock cradle and back bridge. One two no. Mictlan waved to the ropes, tossed up, down with a 'rana, one two no. Sangre and Mictlan down on the mat, looking at each other. Sangre up first, kick, holding Mictlan up for a suplex, but Mictlan reverses it into a small package. One two NO. Slooooooooow. Sangre backs up Mictlan to a corner and slaps him there. Corner whip, corner charge, Sangre misses again and takes the big bump to the outside. Mictlan plancha after him. Both down on the floor again, and Valiente and Loco Max have a game of  no-touch. Mictlan and Sangre take turns pulling each other from crawling back in the ring, which allows us to get Mictlan mooning the crowd. Sangre tries to go for a springboard when Mictlan is two inches away from him, so Mictlan pulls him down. Mictlan back in - and back out with a tope con giro. Mictlan just ran out of dives. Mictlan crawls in first. Sangre gets him with shoulderblock form the apron, top rope plancha, Mictlan rolls thru one twp NO. Sangre argues something from his knees, and Mictlan pulls him into the obligatory cavernaria. Sangre in trouble, waving, waving, and breaking the hold. Both men slow up. Mictlan corner whip, Sangre reverses, and Mictlan falls to seated position. All the better for Sangre to get in his questionably low dropkick. Sangre crawls halfway the ring and covers and - they show a crowd shot. Mictlan kicks out at two. That's a bad time for a crowd shot, yes. Chest slaps from their knees. Both men lean on each other, tired, as they get back up. Mictlan kicks Sangre down. Whip, reversed, Sangre gets in a hiptoss, and right into an arm hook Texas cloverleaf.
