Enrique Vera Jr. & Soberano Jr. vs Bobby Zavala & Disturbio: An opening match. These guys showed more promise than last time they turned up (on C3). Though there are still odd hesitations and screw ups, but a better night overall. Zavala has to really strong to pull off that submission he does, there’s not much the other guy to do to help.
Hijo del Fantasma, Metro, Stuka Jr. vs Euforia, Pólvora, Vangelis: Nice trios match, nothing wrong with it except maybe not enough time. Metro continues his progression into the scariest man in the world. This was one of his nicer German suplexes, but he still managed to lift Euforia off his feet and walk around with him a bit. Good to find out Fantasma has a way to win that doesn’t involve a ramp.
Volador Jr. vs Máscara Dorada in a lightning match: A bit disappointing. Could’ve been partly the editing, but this felt like an occasional big spot and not a lot of connective tissue. Volador has more flushed out matches with Sombra, so I’m not sure if the problem was Dorada is not Sombra (a tough standard), or if they did too much early and got really tired (they both were breathing hard for a few minutes) and decided to just do the important things, or if it was just unfortunate. There are ideas of a good match here and it was nice to protect Dorada a bit by taking three moves to put him down, but this is going to look better in the highlight packed than it did on TV.
Fuego, Sagrado, Sangre Azteca vs Cancerbero, Euforia, Virus: Cancerbero matches tend to have more variety in finishes and layouts than other matches. Or at least that’s the generalization I’m going to make from this match, which had some nice bits strung together and a surprise finish that actually felt surprising. This is not a great match, but it was more interesting than your average weekly TV match fare.
Blue Panther, La Máscara, Marco Corleone vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas: Better than a lot of this feud has been of late. The first two falls being short was annoying, but they did make the Negro/Panther stuff come off as important. Marco was as good as he’s been since coming back, him and Niebla continue to play off each other well. There seems to be tiny hints of Panther and Negro switching sides in this feud, but they’re so tiny that they may just be me overreading into things.
CMLL (MON) 02/13/2012Arena Puebla [Cinco Radio]
2) Dalis la Caribeña, Lady Apache, Marcela b Amapola, La Seductora, Princesa Blanca Lady Apache replaced the often missing Estrella Magica. No confirmation on the ruda side.
3) Diamante, Fuego, Stuka Jr. b Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
4) Marco Corleone, Máximo, Rush DQ Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Tiger No word on the DQ.
5) Negro Casas b La Sombra [NWA WELTER] Negro Casas is the new champion, winning with a casita. Tirantes was ref, and Negro had both Cancerbero & Zacarias as seconds (Sombra had Maximo), and it’s possible there may have been interference.
That’s a surprising title change. It’s unexpected Sombra would lose, it’s a unusual they’d do it in Arena Puebla, and it’s odd time for Negro Casas to pick up a title right when he should be heading to a hair match with Blue Panther.

Perros del Mal has a taping tonight in Arena Aficion. (Last week’s Perros del Mal show seemed to say it’d start airing Thursday.) The main event was scheduled to be Garza, Perro, Toscano, Texano, X-Fly and a mystery man for X-Fly’s national heavyweight championship. Perros del Mal had leaked word that Latin Lover would be the mystery man. He will not be now; Perros del Mal says Latin Lover has an elbow injury. KrisZ noticed Lover wrestled last weekend in Gimnasio Nuevo Leon, which could be where the injury happened.
Mesias will replace Latin in the match. That doesn’t quite work, Mesias is not eligible to win the championship not being Mexican. Mesias is actually the reason why the Perros have this title. It was part of the title unification tournament to create the AAA World Mega Heavyweight championship. Since Mesias couldn’t actually challenge for back then in a tournament match, it stayed with the loser of the match, Charly Manson. Manson dropped it to X-Fly which gets us back to today. X-Fly’s chances of keeping the title tonight seems low.
NJPW announced Prince Devitt would be in Mexico from March 15 to “early April” (off NJPW shows thru April 8th). He’ll probably debut on the March 16th Arena Mexico show.

Aero pushed Fantamsa off thru a table, but a mystery person shoved Aero off too, into a bed of spikes. La Hormiga ran into help Joe Lider, but Lider turned on him. Suicida ran in to attack Angel o Demonio. Super Mega picked up the pin for DTU by powerbombing Lider.
There were separate IWL & DTU rings and entrances set up. The two rings were set up a slight distance between each other, allowing for railings and about twelve rows of seats in between the rings, as well as many seats around both rings. A next show was announced, including the Psycho Circus. Looked like a good turnout for this show.

Airdate: 03/04? They need to make up a week somewhere…
Last week, AAA TV was hyping a show in Deportivo Galeana in Mexico City this Sunday. As happens from time to time, that show is being replaced by one next Thursday (02/23) in Arena Naucalpan. (If you’re just here for the IWRG news, note that means they’ll be doing something different for TV that week – perhaps airing the FIL show two days prior?) Both AAA & IWRG had said AAA TV would eventually be back in Naucalpan, which made it peculiar when they kept going around the Mexico City area but not back IWRG’s home base. Arena Naucalpan is not a big building, but Deportivo Galeana wasn’t either.
The Rey de Reyes tournament gets started in a hurry. These are Toscano & Mascara Ano 2000 Jr.’s first matches. The story there is Marisela Pena asked them what they wanted with all these attacks, they said matches to prove they’re better, and she said OK. In exchange, Consejo is supposed to cut out with the gang beatings, but we’ll see. All you young luchadors out there should employ this tactic to get an AAA job for yourself. Just keep running in until they get annoyed even to give you a match. Cibernetico and Garza are former winners. This is Metal’s first match back since he was “injured” off screen last fall. There’s no hint as to the mystery person, though the spot seems to be for a tecnico. (Have we annoyed them into bringing in Aerostar back? That usually doesn’t work out!)
Neither of those matches seem like pleasant experiences.
AJPW had announced the tag title match earlier today, though they were still under the impression it’d be on 02/19 and had Silver King in Ultimo Gladiador’s spot. The winner of that match defends the title back in AJPW on 03/20.
Oficiales are listed as “Los Oficiales I, II y III”. I guess they could mean the Elite. (I hope not.) The match is also listed as revenge – the only time the Oficiales made AAA TV were losing to the Air Force, but none of those guys (Gato Eveready, Laredo Kid, and Aerostar) exist anymore.
AAA also announced the Toluca taping for 03/02. Since the beginning of time (or at least since my records go back), Thursday night has always been lucha night in Toluca. By moving it to Friday night, they’ll instead run right against Dos Leyendas. Toluca is about 50 minutes outside of Mexico City. Fans don’t seem to travel as far for shows in Mexico as they do in the United States, but it will at least give AAA some added attention.
Toluca ought to have the other two Rey de Reyes semifinals. If this show airs at 03/04, then Tolcua would air 03/11, and maybe the TV after that doesn’t air until after Rey de Reyes (03/18 weekend?) They really don’t have to announce the Rey de Reyes lineup before Toluca, because they’d still have over two weeks before the PPV, but it probably should be clear by then.
