IWRG Caravana de Campeones, NJPW/CMLL

CMLL (SUN) 08/12/2012 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Informador]
4) Gallo b Malefico [hair]
Gallo, wagering his mask, used his espolón hold for the win.

IWRG (SUN) 08/12/2012 Arena Naucalpan [IWRG]
***Caravana de Campeones, 2012***
1) Golden Magic DQ Eterno [WWS WELTER]
Only WWS Welterweight Title was on the line. Seconds were Super Nova & Dinamic Black. Eterno won the first with a powerbomb, Golden Magic took the second with a 450 splash. Golden Magic has Eterno in a submission in the third fall, when the ref was distracted by both seconds. Eterno snuck in a foul and got the pin. However, Dinamic Black and the crowd convinced the referee (Grillo) that a foul happened, and got the finish overturned. Titles change hands by DQ, so Golden Magic is the new champ. Eterno ripped up his mask after the match.
2) Hijo de Máscara Año 2000 DRAW Hijo de LA Park [IWRG JUNIORS]
Hijo de Mascara Ano 2000 was the champ. LA Park took the first fall, Mascara took the second, LA Park took out both of them with a huge tope. Both crawled back in, Park tried a suplex, Mascara turned into a cradle, and both were pinned for three. Mascara keeps the title on a draw.
3) Hijo de Pirata Morgan b Factor [Rey del Ring]
Factor was the champ, Pirata Morgan won the Gran Cruzada to get the shot. Moved from the main event. IWRG mentions newcomer Factor had the advantage in both size and experience. Pirata took 1/3 to win the match, submitting Factor in the last.
4) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Bestia 666, Damián 666, Súper Nova [EdM Trios]
Moved to the main event. Oficials came in with the belts. FdT took the first, Oficials the second. In the third, Bestia pinned Fierro, but AK-47 beat Bestia. Fierro hung around, and Damian smacked him in the head with a chair. Later, with Bestia and Nova arguing with the ref, Damian fouled 911, but Fierro snuck in an fouled Damian, putting 911 on top. Refs turned around and made the count for the Oficiales.
5) Cien Caras Jr. b X-Fly [IWRG IC HEAVY]
Cien was the champion. Bestia 666 was X-Fly’s second. No mention of Cien Caras’s second, but probably Hijo de Mascara Ano. X-Fly did a lot of flying to tire out the champ in the first and won that fall, but missed a plancha in the second and Cien Caras won the second. Just before the third started, the rest of FdT (Damian, Nova, Eterno) ran in and attacked Cien Caras Jr. However, Bestia wiped out X-Fly with a tope and Cien Caras Jr. took advantage for the win.

Black Terry Jr. has photos from an show Sunday in Neza that I haven’t even seen a lineup for. It appears to be a TV taping.

ColiseoMania I‘s tickets run from 250 to 20 ($19US to $1.50US) Also, Hombre de Negro takes credit for bringing in Piraat Morgan.

LuchaWorld recaps last night’s Arena Coliseo show.

Lucha Libre in Japan

08/13 NOAH: Super Crazy b Masao Inoue

NJPW announced Mascara Dorada & Averno would appear on their next tour. Those shows run from 09/07 to 09/22, with a PPV on 09/23. That would probably mean both would miss the Anniversary show. They’d could make it if it’s 09/29 (or 09/01!), and we don’t know when it is yet.

In trade, CMLL will be getting Prince Devitt & Taichi for a while. Devitt will be in from 09/12 & 10/08, while Taichi’s stay is more undetermined. He starts on 09/05 but his return date is TBD.

Devitt defending the NWA title as semimain on the Anniversary show (with the main event as a cage match) seems about right. Volador is going in the cage with Niebla, he’s out. Averno is going to Japan, so Sombra’s probably not getting in the cage and Sombra/Devitt would be very good.

Taichi currently is breaking up with tag team partner TAKA Michinoku. The two have a singles match on the 08/22 Kaientai Dojo show where the loser is kicked out of their larger group. It also happens to be an anniversary match for TAKA and it’s before Taichi leaves the country, so you know how that one’s going. I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want Taichi to be their lackey, he seems very good at it. Taichi in CMLL means Yellow Fever has a full trios team again, though I’d kick Okumura of the team and hang out with Signo if I was them. I’d bet it also means Taichi returning with Namajague for revenge by 2013. (And that team will be fantastic.)

Lineups

CMLL (SUN) 08/19/2012 Arena Coliseo
1) Genesis & Höruz vs Guerrero Negro Jr. & Herodes Jr.
2) Fantasy, Pequeño Halcón, Shockercito vs Mercurio, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Warrior
3) Pegasso, Starman, Stigma vs Cancerbero, Hooligan, Nitro
4) Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Misterioso Jr. [lightning]
5) Diamante, Super Porky, Valiente vs Kráneo, Olímpico, Psicosis
6) Ángel de Oro, La Máscara, La Sombra vs Felino, Negro Casas, Rey Escorpión

Olimpico hasn’t wrestled in Mexico City in six weeks, since when the Invasors lost to Love Buffet for the trios titles. Maybe there’s just one extra Invasors spot and he and Morphosis are splitting it.

Misterioso poses some tactical difficulties for Guerrero Maya. It’s going to be tough to get him up for the Sacrifica Maya. Also, Misterioso likes slapping people hard in the chest, and Maya often falls over backwards like a tree when slapped particularly hard. I’m sure Maya will find a way!

Stigma’s appearance will get more attention, but Cancerberos and Tuareg teaming is a bigger story. Perhaps they signed a truce after their latest battle.

There’s been a Guerrero Negro Jr. wrestling around Monterrey at least as far back as 2004 (and possibly longer.) There’s also one in Acapulco, the same group with Black Silver Jr. There may be a few different people using the name “Genesis”; one around Mexico City, one in Hidalgo (maybe same one), one in SLP, one in La Laguna, one longer ago in Tijuana. There was a Genesis as a regular in 1993-4 Arena Coliseo Acapulco, this is probably not him.

CMLL (SUN) 08/19/2012 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Brillante & El Tapatío vs El Piraña & Relampago Azul
2) Halcon de Plata & Metatrón vs Espectrum & Infierno
3) Esfinge, León Blanco, Smaker vs Acertijo, In Memoriam, Mr. Trueno
4) Máximo & Rush vs Exterminador & Mr. Niebla
5) Titán vs Dragón Rojo Jr.

I’ve seen that main event! Titan has a better chance here.

CMLL (SUN) 08/12/2012 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Bengala & Leono b Camorra & Cholo
tecnicos took 1/3 in a poor match.
2) Camaleón, Pegasso, Sensei b Artillero, Herodes Jr., Súper Comando
Herodes’ debut. He looked fine. His father joined the announcers to talk about his son and his own debut. Tecnicos took 1/3.
3) Dalis la Caribeña, Lady Afrodita, Marcela b La Seductora, Tiffany, Zeuxis
Tecnicas took 2/3. Tiffany had a cap on to hide her head, but it was pulled off before the finish.
4) Stuka Jr. COR Namajague [lightning]
Just over four minutes, obviously went shrot. Namajague was slow to returning to the ring after a dive, though not so slow that he should’ve been counted out. Namajague went with it and fainted in the ring, but Stuka took Namajague out of the ring and beat him all around ringside, including a suplex on the ramp.
5) Hijo del Fantasma, Marco Corleone, Super Porky b Rey Escorpión, Terrible, Tiger
Tecnicos took 1/3.
6) La Sombra b Averno
Said to be a very good match. Averno attacked Sombra, ripped up his pants, gave him a Devil’s Wings on the floor, and then another in the ring to win the first fall. Averno controlled the second fall, but Sombra came back, landed a tope, and won the fill with the Brillante Bomb. Third fall had a lot of near falls, including Averno reversing the Brillante Bomb (first one?) into a small package. Planned finish appeared to be a top rope headscissors, but they slipped and Sombra lost Averno. Averno still feel, hitting the mat face first. Both were down for a bit, before getting up and finishing with Sombra’s elevated German suplex. Post match challenges included Sombra asking for the mask vs hair match, and Averno offering it – if Sombra could beat him again.

I had a few distractions during the second half of this show, but what I saw of the main event looked really good. Main event was long, but 52MX gave Tiffany/Marcela nearly 30 minutes this week, there shouldn’t be a timing reason to clip this one up.

Full list of participants is not confirmed; recap mentions 54 wrestlers. Recap mentions Argenis, so Brazo de Plata is less likely to have participated. Axxel beat Heddi Karoui with a caballo to win.

Axel won Torneo Amigo de Siempre, eliminating Heddi Karoui in the linked to a video. I believe this was taped for TVC Deportes. Hijo del Medico Asesino is back, and did a big reveal to reveal he was still wearing his mask.

The Gladiatores Facebook says their website is down for a few days while they do remodeling. Hope they’re back soon.

Diamante Azul was billed as defending his Mexico City Heavyweight title versus Kukuxklan today in Arena Mexico San Luis Potosi (not located in Mexico City.) That’s the first known defense for the DF titles after they were handed out a couple months ago.

Video of the Perros attacking Hector Garza.

SuperLuchas #475 has Perro & Cibernetico on the cover, with more TripleMania coverage. It includes an interview with Danny Casas, who confirms he’s the former Hammer and the grandson of Pepe Casas. Nanizh Rock is his sister, and back in school (so no longer around AAA.) He mentions Tiger, Puma, Canelo Casas and Destroyer (??) as his cousins.

Rob has highlights of 02/94 AAA.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and LuchaWorld Podcast #8 on New Mistico, TripleMania, and Red Bastien. It’s the only podcast which touches on Toscano’s WWE Hall of Fame chances.

Lucha Libre In Japan

08/12 NOAH:
2) Super Crazy b Satoshi Kajiwara
3) Kento Miyahara b Ricky Marvin

This week’s AAA TV mentions Dinastia will be going on an extended tour of Japan. No promotion was mentioned. NOAH makes the most sense at first glance, but they’ve just announced a junior tag team tournament and Dinastia isn’t among the names. NJPW is CMLL only. Ozz & Cuervo worked for AJPW, but they’ve announced cards for the next month. Dragon Gate?

08/10 AAA TV Results (Tampico)

AAA TV (FRI) 08/10/2012 Expo Tampico [AAA]
1) Mari Apache, Mini Charly Manson, Sexy Star b Fabi Apache, Lolita, Octagoncito
Manson powerbombed Octagoncito for the win.
2) Aerostar, Argenis Atomic Boy, Fenix b Daga, Dark Dragon, Gran Apache
Moonsault sideslam from Fenix to Apache for the win.
3) Devil Rocker, Machine Rocker, Soul Rocker b Drago, El Elegido, La Parka Jr.
Inferno Rockers were the unlisted wrestlers. Machine pinned Drago with a German suplex.
4) Joe Lider, LA Park, Psycho Clown b Psicosis, Silver King, Texano Jr.
Earlier in the night, LA Park forgave Joaquin for costing him Dorian’s head shaving, but promised Dorian will learn his actions has some consquences. Silver King replaced Octagon, who did appear but said he was injured. Psicosis jumped out of the crowd to attack Park. Park and Psycho Clown had issues during the match, but the tecnicos still won.
5) Cibernético & El Mesías DQ el Hijo del Perro Aguayo & Héctor Garza
Perros turned on Garza and destroyed him prior to the match. Halloween tried to replace Garza in the match, but the ref didn’t allow it and called a DQ.
6) Máscara Año 2000 Jr. b Dr. Wagner Jr.
No mention of how Mascara won. He did wear his mask all match, but Wagner pulled it off post match. Silver King and Consejo ran in to attack Wagner. Unclear if Silver is part of the group. Mesias, Cibernetico and Garza made the save.

Air Date: 09/02 & 09/09.

It’s amazing Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. is still winning. They don’t trust him, they had a half dozen different people getting involved in his TripleMania match, but they’re not giving up on him. Of all the people AAA could be pushing as new stars, he seems to be the least likely to succeed, but it pays to be tall, have a famous mask, and be willing to lose it.

Next taping is the at the Expo, a week from Sunday.

Niebla vs Volador, Guerreros implosion, Universal tournament

CMLL (FRI) 08/10/2012 Arena Mexico [Estrellas del RingKaiser Sports]
1) Bobby Zavala & Disturbio b Hombre Bala Jr. & Super Halcon Jr.
2) Fuego, Rey Cometa, Triton DQ Puma King, Raziel, Sangre Azteca
Straight falls, Puma King getting called for a violation on Rey Cometa in both falls: foul around the ringpost in fall 1, mask pull in fall 2.
3) Lady Apache, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit b Dark Angel, Goya Kong, Luna Mágica
Dark Angel had Lady Apache in the reinera, but Apache slipped out, cradled, and grabbed the bottom rope for the win.
4) Rey Bucanero b Ángel de Oro [lightning]
Bucanero won via Destroyer.
5) Atlantis, La Máscara, Mistico b Dragón Rojo Jr., Euforia, Último Guerrero
Mistico armscissors on Guerrero while Atlantis beat Euforia. Finish was set up by Dragon Rojo stopping Guerrero from landing the senton de la muerte. Dragon & Guerrero shoved each other after the match.
6) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b Mr. Águila, Psicosis, Volador Jr.
Niebla’s team took 1/3, with Niebla sneaking in a foul on Volador in the third, and ripping up Volador’s outfit prior to that. Volador challenged Niebla to a mask vs mask match. Niebla declined.

CMLL also announced the Universal Tournament would start next week. CMLL has 17 champions, but one of those is Prince Devitt, who hasn’t been mentioned as coming in during the next few weeks and is probably the first second champion to miss the tournament. (Edit: Liger missed last year, with Tanahashi replacing him.)

AAA posted brief taping results on their Facebook. Post will be up when they put up the full recap, but it looks like it was just following up from TripleMania: Garza is definitely out of the Perros (and Perro Jr. is feeling a lot better), Silver King is a rudo (and maybe a new Consejo member.)

Cronicas Y Leyendas has video of Huracan Ramirez unmasked himself in 1987.

Lucha Layer Cake recaps 03/31/2011 AAA.

Sangre Azteca talks to Fuego en el Ring about his trip to France, how he’d like to win a world title, and why Smaker shouldn’t challenge him to a mask match. Also, Sangre Azteca is holding a raffle.

Lucha Libre in Japan
08/11 NJPW: [G1] Shinsuke Nakamura [8] b Rush [6]
That ends the G1 for Rush, finishing at 3-5, which will put him in last (probably a tie). 3 wins is above what I’d expect going on, though I’m not totally certain how CMLL benefits from their near future top star ending up last in a tournament weeks before he may headline their biggest show of the year. (In his post match interview, Rush says he’d like to come back next year and talks of Terrible/Rush as if it’s set.)

Lineups

5) Cien Caras Jr., Hijo de LA Park, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000 vs El Hijo del Medico Asesino, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan

Golden Magic cs Chicano is non-title. Medico is shown wearing a mask on the poster, but they probably don’t have many shots without his mask so who knows.

CMLL (FRI) 08/17/2012 Arena Mexico
1) Aereo & Astral vs Demus 3:16 & Pequeño Olímpico
2) Fuego, Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr. vs Namajague, Puma King, Shigeo Okumura

5) Volador Jr. vs Mr. Niebla

First time Volador and Niebla have faced off in a month!

Rush & Terrible are in the same block, so they can’t be the final. La Mascara & Volador is the likely final in the other bracket.  Rush vs Volador or Atlantis vs Volador or Terrible vs Mascara are the most likely finalists.

Puma & Rey Cometa again.

Pinta Para Corona returns, Piratas vs Tijuana, Chicano vs Golden Magic, Pequeno Estrellas party, previews

IWRG (THU) 08/09/2012 Arena Naucalpan [The Gladiatores]
1) Centvrión b Tonatiuh
Centvrion replaced Galaxy, worked twice, and got the win here.
2) Charly Madrid & Dinamic Black b Eita & The Mummy
Tecnicos take 2/3.
3) Carta Brava Jr., Imposible, Matrix Jr. b Centvrión, Chicano, Golden Magic
Alan Extreme, suffering the curse of Los Nuevo Temerarios, was replaced by Matrix Jr. Carta Brava and Chicano are still feuding. Rudos took 1/3, winning when Chicano twice accidentally hit Golden Magic. Magic was furious with Chicano after. Both suggested switching to the rudo side before Magic demanded a title match.
4) Eterno, Heddi Karaoui, Oficial 911 b Danny Casas, La Cobra, Veneno
Straight falls, with Danny Casas appearing to turn rudo after Veneno hit him twice.
5) Barba Roja, Fuerza Guerrera, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan DQ Bestia 666, Damián 666, Súper Nova, X-Fly
Pirates took 2/3 in a brawl. Morgan Sr. fouled Damian, faked a foul from Damian, and drew the DQ. There were challenges to a cage match later.

For the first time in five long days, AAA & CMLL will be running significant shows on the same days. They’re the first notable shows for each company after what will probably turned out to the best attended shows of the year. They’re not quite as interesting (so no chat!)

AAA is quickly back to taping after TripleMania. The show was originally listed as in Ciudad Madero, but LuchaWorld points out the taping was moved to Tampico. If the card hasn’t changed, it’s one more Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. vs Dr. Wagner Jr. match, which should be the end of Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. in the main event. Mesias & Cibernetico are supposed to face Hector Garza & Perro Aguayo Jr., but that match seems unlikely to happen as advertised.

CMLL’s hyping it’s show around the continued Volador vs Mr. Niebla feud in the main event. Niebla teams with Peste Negra, Felino & Negro Casas, while Volador teams with the Invasors, Mr. Aguila & Psicosis. In the undercard, Mistico gets his first shot at Ultimo Guerrero, though the storyline development there might be the current status of the Guerreros after Dragon Rojo and UG had problems last week. The Dark Angel/Lady Apache and Puma King/Rey Cometa feuds continue in the opening matches.

Llaves & Candados has a flyer for a second edition of Quien Pinta Para La Corona, the wrestling/boxing talent search that gave AAA Daga, Dinastia and (purely in theory) La Magnficia last year.  The flyer lists the kickoff press conference for August 16th, next Thursday, in Monterrey. The actual Monterrey tryout appears to be 08/25 & 08/26. AAA & Corona don’t appear to have said anything about a second round of this contest, but maybe they’re just holding a week. This may explain why AAA is so far ahead on TV tapings; sometimes they did tape along with where ever the tryout was that week, and some weeks they did not.

Edit: tracked down the full schedule. Who needs a press conference!

08/25 & 08/26 – Monterrey (Nave Lewis del Parque Fundidora)
09/22 & 09/23 – Ciudad de Campeche (Domo del Mar)
10/13 & 10/14 – Puebla (Centro de Expositores)
11/10 & 11/11 – Guadalajara (Expo Guadalajara)
12/08 – final in Mexico City (Centro Banamex)
That’s the boxing schedule. The lucha schedule may vary slightly, but AAA is probably not taping those weekends.

If the final is December 8th, Guerra de Titanes is likely the weekend of 12/15.

CMLL’s Pequeno Estrellas had their annual party yesterday. As always, this included challenges to matches, glimpses of new mini luchadors who may be debuting soon, and notable missing luchadors. (Bam Bam is long gone.) Pequeno Valiente, mentioned previously as in Hijo del Gladiatores’ class and Stukita, who’s been wrestling around La Laguna for a few years, were introduces as new members of the group. Demus’ brother Akuma 3:16 was also present. The minis talked abut how the luchadors have had a chance to main event some recent shows, and how they’d like the same chance to main event – and maybe do it for many weeks. Demus and Pequeno Violencia suggested a hair match against each other, and Demus, Pierrothito and Olimpico would still like to unify the their titles. No mention of the Pequeno Olimpico vs Pierrothito vs Ultimo Dragoncito mask match, which had been pushed heavily in Luchas 2000 the first half of the year. Pierrothito mentioned he’d be soon going Lebanon for 20 days on a wrestling tour. No opponents was mentioned, which probably means it’s Mascarita Dorada.

The Psycho Circus are organizing a tournament to find promising young wrestlers, who they will they then beat in a match. (That’s really the prize, except the winner is supposedly in doubt.) Tournament runs from 08/11 to 08/31, and all we know about it is the first show in Tenayuca. Luchadors must be licensed to participate.

Rosalio Vera, CMLL photograpther, has uploaded nice HD highlights of this past Friday’s CMLL show. They’re exactly in the style which ends each week of Fox Sports – which would now mean

FOX: Felino vs Stuka, Diamante, Fuego, Triton vs Misterioso Jr., Namajague, Shigeo Okumura and Máscara Dorada, Máximo, Shocker vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Volador Jr.
GALA: Ángel de Oro, Mistico, Valiente vs Ephesto, Euforia, Mephisto and Atlantis & Diamante Azul vs Dragón Rojo Jr. & Último Guerrero [CMLL TAG]

Rob has thoughts on this week’s C3 and highlights of 07/13/12 AAA in Toluca.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Lucha Libre in Japan

08/10 NJPW: G1: Togi Makabe [6] b Rush [6]
Almost everyone in Rush’s block is tied at 6 points, and Rush has the tiebreaker over the one man who has 8 (Archer). However, almost everyone in Rush’s block has 2 matches left, and Rush finishes up on the next show. The only way he can make the final is with a huge pile up of a tie.

MaskMania has his usual piece about getting autographs from everyone after the show, and got to talk to Rush a bit. It turns out Rush is a nice guy! It also turned out that Rush wanted to be a masked wrestler, but CMLL said no. Rush does not sound that interested about turning rudo, feeling it’s only the Arena Mexico fans who boo him and Coliseo & Puebla fans cheer him. (And I think the Arena Mexico fans were actually not booing him as strong last time out.) He didn’t get to talk a lot with Volador, who was limping after his match and might have been hurt going into it.

2) Barbaro I, Barbaro II, Demasiado vs Argus, Stukita, Torando
3) Angel Del Misterio, Dave The Clown, Mambra vs Ares, Hantar, Íkaro

Alternate ring show. Ichiban has been promising a debut show for a while.  First sign of the NWA Mexico promotion in months – I believe Ares & Ikaro were with them
