1) Bastet & Big Mama b Black Fury & Dark Lady
Black Fury replaced La Sadica.
2) Freelance b SádicoMike SeguraImpulsoSpider BoyPantera ISeiyaKiuby [cibernetico]
Best match of the night, money thrown in. Freelance beat Sadico for the win.
3) Eterno, Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Epitafio, Leviatham, Samael, Tormento
4) Cerebro Maligno b Herejía [AULL LH]
Cerebro Maligno wins the title from his (former?) friend, despite Judas el Traidor helping Herejia during the match. Herejia falls on first defense
5) Chucho el Roto, Iron Love, Terry 2000, Yakuza b Comando Negro, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan, Super Mega
6) Black Terry, Negro Navarro, Pirata Morgan b Gallego, Rocky Santana, Romano Garcia
Black Terry’s right eye was closed shut after taking a kick from Negro Casas on Friday (but he still wrestled and won.)
7) el Hijo del Perro Aguayo & Lizmark Jr. b Dr. Wagner Jr. & Tinieblas Jr.
Perro brawl. Perro snuck in a foul on Wagner for the win.

Dr. Wagner Jr. did a post match interview where he said he does not belong to any promotion, including TxT, but would be up for a 09/01 mask vs mask vs mask match with Santo and LA Park. That’s two weekends away, you’d think they would’ve had a press conference for it if they were really going to do it.

Black Terry’s eye looks ugly in the pictures. No one should’ve been upset if he didn’t work, but he worked.

CMLL (SUN) 08/18/2013 Arena Mexico [@therealfredo, CMLL, Yahoo! Deportes]
1) Cholo & Namajague b Molotov & Oro Jr.
Namajague replaced Zayco. Rudos won in straight falls in a quick match.
2) Hombre Bala Jr., Magnus, Súper Halcón Jr. b Arkángel de la Muerte, Canelo Casas, Nosferatu
Canelo looked fine in his Arena Mexico debut. His grandmother was among the Casas family members in attendance. Tecnicos took 2/3.
3) Felino, Puma, Tiger b Ángel de Oro, Fuego, Guerrero Maya Jr.
Rudos took 1/3. Puma escaped Angel de Oro’s mecedora and put him in a mecedora, then a campana, in a direct reversal of their lightning match finish. Tiger was still in TRT gear and believes he’s still in the group (saying last week was a misunderstanding) but also mentioned teaming up with his family more.
4) Diamante Azul b Euforia [lightning]
Azul won with la de a caballo. CMLL’s recap notes the hold was invented by Gori Guerrero.
5) Dragón Rojo Jr., Mr. Niebla, Pólvora b Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Valiente
Rudos took 1/3, Niebla top rope splashing Mistico for the deciding pin. Fans booed the tecnicos loudly during their post match promo.
6) La Máscara, Rush, Titán b Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys [MEX TRIOS]
Rudos took the first, tecnicos took the last two to keep the titles. Rush Driver on Vangellys for the deciding pin. Titan seemed to be hurt early on and struggled at times during the match. First defense for Rush, Titan and La Mascara

If you’re expecting any clarification on whom is and is not in TRT, you’re following the wrong promotion. 70% chance this is all never spoken again since the trios title program is over.

Canelo Casas popped up on the Arkangel 25th Anniversary show (in Arena Coliseo), but this was his first Arena Mexico appearance. Starting him in the segunda seems to be a positive sign for his future.

CMLL (SUN) 08/18/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Índigo & Meteoro b El Tapatío & Relampago Azul
Tecnicos took 2/3.
2) Demonio Rojo & Jocker b Brillante & El Ídolo
Rudos took 2/3.
3) Sky Kid & Virgo b Infierno & Magnum
Sky Kid replaced Halcon de Plata. Tecnicos took 1/3.
4) Black Metal, Leo, Smaker b Espectrum, Exterminador, Ráfaga
Tecnicos took 1/3.
5) Olímpico, Psicosis, Volador Jr. b Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra, Máximo
Rudos took 1/3. Volador pulled Sombra’s mask and pinned him for the win. Sombra challenged Volador to a title match next week.

I wonder if they’re going to be doing Volador/Sombra everywhere this week (and if I want to see it and the possible apuesta match or if it’ll all seem like repeats.)

Tomahawk won the DTU Alto Impacto title in Arena Solidaridad. Eita’s previously held this title and this seems to indicate Tomahawk will be around at least one more set of DTU shows.

Lucha Libre in Japan

08/17 Stardom: Dark Angel b Takumi Iroha [STARDOM WONDER] – 3rd defense
The Stardom league tournament, 5STAR GP, starts tomorrow and runs thru 09/23.

NJPW announced Rey Bucanero will be on their next tour. The entire tour runs from 09/05 to 09/28. Bucanero is listed for at least thru 09/14. Bucanero may be on the rest of the shows, but they don’t say and there’s no full cards yet for those shows.

The 09/14 show is at Korakuen Hall, with Tanahashi & Liger defending the CMLL tag team titles against Bucanero and Tama Tonga. This is probably tied to Tanahashi not sticking around for the CMLL Anniversary show, though it’ll be especially odd for Bucanero to be in Japan to build up this title match while Tanahashi is in Mexico. I’m not sure what I want to see happen; Tanahashi & Liger keeping the tag team titles means no tag team titles for a while longer (which may  not be actually important), but Tama & ReyBuc winning the tag team titles means Terrible lost the tag team titles for no good reason (or the Universal tournament, which is the same thing.) I’d much rather see Terrible with the tag team titles than Bucanero, which is where we’re at with Rey Bucanero in 2013.

08/16 AAA TV Results (Queretaro)

AAA TV (FRI) 08/16/2013 Auditorio General José María Arteaga, Querétaro, Querétaro [AAA]
1) Mini Abismo Negro, Mini Charly Manson, Mini Histeria b Dinastía, Máscarita Divina, Octagoncito
Mini Abismo defeated Dinastia, asked for a title shot. Dinastia accepted.
2) Flamita, Lucky Boy, Niño de Ébano b Eterno, Steve Pain, Último Gladiador
Nino de Ebano replaced Argenis (in AJPW). Flamita beat Gladiador.
3) Aerostar, Angélico, Jack Evans b Machine Rocker, Pentagón Jr., Soul Rocker
Aerostar replaced Fenix (injury.) Said to be a very good match. Angelico gave Pentagon a crucifix powerbomb to set up Jack’s 630 senton for the win.
4) Daga & Psicosis b Crazy Boy & Joe Lider
Crazy hardcore brawl. Daga beat Crazy with a chair-on-fire plancha.
5) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown b Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Silver King, Texano Jr.
Mascara took the pin this time, to a Psycho to rope splash. Texano again pointed out he did not get pinned, so no title match.
6) Chessman, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Parka Negra b Cibernético, El Mesías, La Parka
Parka Negra snuck in a foul on Parka. Perro and Konnan earlier appeared in ring to threaten revenge on La Secta for their attack in Mexico City.

Air Date: 08/31 and 09/07?

Building looks very close to sold out.

Aerostar! I can only assume AAA never announced the subs because the hype for his return would’ve been too much. (That really does sound like a great match.)

Vague ideas on matches for the yet to be announced Heroes Inmortales card

  • Texano Jr. (c) vs Psycho Clown [AAA HEAVY] – Psycho’s still go to beat him, guessing he will in Naucalpan
  • Perros del Mal (Perro Jr., Psicosis, Daga and either Eita or Cibernetico) vs La Secta – maybe a setup for an apuesta rematch in December. Would mean the Daga/Ozz stuff is going nowhere.
  • Dinastia (c) vs Mini Abismo Negro [AAA MINI]

and that’s pretty much it so far.

Next taping is 08/30 in Naucalpan. They’ve already mentioned the top matches (Texano vs Psycho in trios, Secta vs Mesias/Perro/Cibernetico) and the full card should be out soon.

Volador defeats Sombra, CMLL over independents, Aerostar to the UK

CMLL (FRI) 08/16/2013 Arena Mexico [CFan Deportes, CMLL]
1) Nitro & Skándalo b Metálico & Sensei
2) Estrellita, Marcela, Silueta b Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit
straight falls
3) Marco Corleone, Máximo, Thunder b Kráneo, Morphosis, Psicosis
Tecnicos took 2/3. Aeroitaliano on Psicosis for the win.
4) Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Valiente b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
Tecnicos took 2/3, Mistica on Averno.
5) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Negro Casas b Black Terry, Negro Navarro, Solar I
Blue Panther was honored before the match for his 35th Anniversary. His two sons wore black Panther masks and were introduced as Black Panther and El Cachorro. Blue Panther was allowed to wear his mask for the whole match. Panther submitted Solar to a nudo lagunero in the first. Black Terry armbarred Panther in the second. Atlantis beat Negro Navarro with an inverted double nelson in the third to give the win to the home team. Panther celebrated for a while, started to leave, and Averno surprise attacked him. Panther was strechered out.
6) Volador Jr. b La Sombra [super libre]
Volador Jr. wore a Blue Panther inspired mask. Volador won the first with a back cracker. He tried to martinete Sombra in the second, but Tirantes broke it up and called a DQ. Volador grabbed the microphone, pointed out it was a super libre match (so there should be no DQs) and wanted Tirantes to get lost. Volador took fall 3 with the Guillotina Voladora for the win.

Blue Panther used the name El Cachorro at the very start of his career. His nephew, Black Warrior, used Black Panther before switching to his famous name.

Black Terry ended up with partially closed right eye thanks to a Negro Casas kick. It looks like the match is going up on YouTube already. It appeared that the top two matches were being taped for GalaTV, so that might be the only way to see them complete.

Lineup

IWRG (THU) 08/22/2013 Arena Naucalpan
1) Johnny Rivera vs Dragón Celestial
2) Emperador Azteca, Freelance, Seiya vs Alan Extreme, Fulgor I, Fulgore II
3) Bugambilia, Diva Salvaje, Miss Gaviota vs Carta Brava Jr., Rayan, Spartan [lumberjack]
4) Dinamic Black, Tony Rivera, Veneno vs Apolo Estrada Jr., Eterno, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000
5) Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr. vs Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II [IWRG IC TRIOS]
Piratas are champions, 3rd defense

Piratas put up their titles after Navarros beat them last week.

Lots of people who haven’t been around much: Comando Elite, Carta Brava Jr., Tony Rivera. A lot of people have used the name Emperador Azteca, including a guy near me in GALLI who used to wrestle around here.

CMLL (FRI) 08/23/2013 Arena Mexico
1) Hombre Bala Jr. & Súper Halcón Jr. vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Ángel de Oro, Guerrero Maya Jr., Titán vs Misterioso Jr., Taichi, Vangellys
3) Marco Corleone, Máximo, Shocker vs Hiroshi Tanahashi, Namajague, Rey Bucanero
4) Mistico vs AvernoRushRey EscorpiónTerribleMáscara DoradaPólvoraLa Máscara [CMLL Universal]
5) Atlantis vs Último Guerrero

They are doing both singles matches!

Rush seems like the favorite in this block, but he’ll inevitably have to go thru Terrible. They could do a whole first round of rivals – Rush/Terrible, Mistico/Averno, Dorada/Polvora and Escorion/Mascara are left over. (Also, maybe the field is locked no matter what happens in Sunday’s title match? Or Vangelis or Bucanero replace La Mascara.)

Next week’s 8 would be Tanahashi, Sombra, Mephisto, Titan, Virus, Valiente, Dragon Rojo, and Diamante Azul. That looks like a Tanahashi/Sombra block final.

Tanahashi debuts in a comedy match. Namajague being ahead of Taichi is great, though Namajague would have more fun in the second.

Trauma II breaks Super Nova to keep his title, AAA in Quereatro, Bello David

***Caravana de Campeones, 2013***
1) Imposible b Golden Magic [IWRG IC Light]
Best match of the night. Impossible counted a Golden Magic plancha with a dropkick. Imposible’s first defense.
2) Oficial 911 DRAW Centvrión [IWRG Rey del Ring, #1 Contenders]
No Heddi Karoui (said to be injured), so Centvrion & Oficial 911 had a number one contenders match. Double pin in a tapatia, so they made the title match Three Match Fighters
3) Dinamic Black b Centvrión, Oficial 911 [IWRG Rey del Ring]
Dinamic Black held on to his title in his second defense.
4) Hijo de Pirata Morgan b Eterno [IWRG IC MIDDLE]
Hijo del Pirata Morgan took 2/3. Pirata hurt his leg in the second (giving Eterno the fall) but came back to win. Hijo del Pirata Morgan’s second defense
5) Negro Navarro & Trauma I b Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan Jr. [IWRG IC TAG, #1 Contenders]
Was listed as a title match against whoever won on Sunday, turned out to be a #1 contenders match when Navarro & Trauma I lost. Navarro & Trauma won, so they’ll get the next title shot.
6) Trauma II b Súper Nova [IWRG JUNIORS]
Less a title match, more a fight. Eterno & Trauma II were seconds and got involved. Super Nova missed a moonsault to the floor in the third when Trauma II moved out of the way, landing badly on his right leg. Fans and people were very concerned. Nova tried to stand and continue, but Trauma II attacked the bad foot and Eterno stopped the match by throwing in the towel. Crowd was split on the finish. Trauma II took 2/3. Trauma II’s first defense.

The write up of the injury makes it seem serious, not a storyline. Eterno was very unhappy after the show.

AAA is back with a TV taping after a two break. There’s another two week break after this. They’re highly annoying – I want more to talk about AAA more often. Someone go back in time and buy all the tickets to the Fusion shows so they would still be running them now.

The Queretaro show is more similar to the post-TripleMania time killing shows than a follow up to the DF taping. Cibernetico and Perro were friends in DF and will team up in Naucalpan, but are on the opposite sides of the main event tonight. The Texano/Psycho Clown feud, one of the running storylines of those July shows, comes back here in the semimain. Crazy Boy & Joe Lider go from defending the tag team titles against Daga & Psicosis to facing Daga & Psicosis to in a non-title match. First half of the show has three good matches: a minis match with the best AAA minis, a trios with new guys, and a trios with Pentagon Jr. & the Infierno Rockers (not a death metal band) versus Jack & Angelico & someone in a high flying showcase.

We know there will be two subs; AAA’s continued to advertise Fenix & Argenis on the show while knowing one is too hurt to wrestle (unless he suddenly got better!) and the other is in Japan.

Meanwhile, CMLL starts a month (at least) of special shows with the Blue Panther 35th Anniversary show. Panther teams up with fellow CMLL legends Atlantis & Negro Casas versus indy maestros Negro Navarro, Solar I and Black Terry in an unlikely to be repeated match. That’s not the main event – a super libre Sombra vs Volador Jr. match will end the show. CMLL’s been strange on what “super libre” means in the past, basically doing the same matches with the same ref bumps, but the normal match between Sombra & Volador is pretty good.

It’s also very curious that Sombra and Volador would have a singles match now if they’re going to have another one in a mask match a month from now. There’s no sign of an Atlantis versus Ultimo Guerrero match, and it would seem unlikely if they’re doing Universal singles matches the next couple of weeks.

Monterrey luchador Bello David passed away yesterday. He had suffered a stroke a couple months ago.

IWL has announced a 09/14 third anniversary show with a four way including Canek, LA Park, Wagner and TBA. I think there’s a good chance I’m going to an IWL show with a million people on it.

LuchaWorld has the latest podcast episode. I’m going to listen to this later today, but it reads like they have a superb idea for rigging the Masked Republic tryout.

Rob has highlights of 02/01/13 CMLL and 08/01-08/11 Puebla (Yoshihashi vs Rush)

7) Monster Pain vs John Morrison [WWL HEAVY]
Monster Pain is champion
8) Hijo De Dos Caras, Mil Mascaras, Sicodélico Jr. vs Cien Caras Jr., Máscara Año 2000, Universo 2000

You know it’s a WWL show when they do a Los Boricuas reunion Mexico. Also, John Morrison against Monster Pain. It seems like a waste to bring in Chessman to work the opener (besides some dark matches), but that should be a good match for him and likely the best on the Monterrey show.
