08/17-18 lucha videos

this week’s production notes:

AAA UTDN was a repeat of TripleMania (part 2).

Puebla did air, but the feed we use was broadcasting SummerSlam instead. It aired about 3-4 minutes of Averno/Mistico after the PPV replay – enough to know what aired, but not enough to be worth posting. There’s no replay scheduled as of yet. I’ve included the IWL from last week; it’s missing the first couple of minutes but TerceraCaida never posted the full episode so this’ll work. I have to deliver Freelance to the people. No IWL episode from this week as of yet.

I’m declaring the Canal9/webfeed version of the SLP lucha show to be ‘not broadcast worthy’ and no longer including it here. The version that airs on TV (where the sound actually matches the picture!) will continue, months behind the original air date.

Random question – should I be using DIVX or XVID or something else? (And explain like I have no idea what these words mean.) I found out XVID would work for the one HD video I have, but not so much DIVX (which I normally use.)

08/30 AAA TV Lineup (Naucalpan)

AAA TV (FRI) 08/30/2013 Arena Naucalpan
1) Faby Apache & Lolita vs La Magnifica & Mary Apache
2) Dinastía & Mascarita Sagrada vs Mini Charly Manson & Mini Histeria
3) Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Niño Hamburguesa vs Carta Brava Jr., Eterno, Hijo de Pirata Morgan
4) Angélico & Jack Evans vs Machine Rocker & Soul Rocker and Daga & Psicosis
5) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Chessman, Texano Jr., Último Gladiador
6) Cibernético, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, El Mesías vs Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz

Air Date: 09/07?

This replaces the usual Thursday (08/29) Arena Naucalpan show. There’s usually a few IWRG guys on the card, but the only one who’s not a semi-usual AAA luchador is Hijo del Pirata Morgan. Magnifica, the 2011 QPPLC contest winner, might actually make her TV debut.

(I guess there’s no QPPLC 2013? Which is fine from a new talent standpoint, because they’ve got plenty of people from the last two.)

I’m not sure if she’ll actually make her GalaTV debut. DF is definitely a two taping week, but Queretaro & Naucalpan look to be one week tapings (partly because of the skipped week.) That leaves room for a couple Fusion episodes – imagine, a TVC Deportes show from Arena Nacualpan! – and the women and the three way tag match seem like they could go there.

AAA previously leaked the top two matches, which should determine matches for the next major show (but AAA is not always logical.) AAA crowd seemed split between the Perros and Bizarros last time here, but should be totally united against La Secta in the main event.

Fourth match could be great, could be crazy. Hoping for less staples, more Superman dives. Mexican Powers versus sort-of-team IWRG in the tercera should be good and the minis and women have hope too.

Next taping is 09/05 in Toluca, which means back to back loud shows.

Traumas out brawl Familia de Tijuana, Heroes Inmortales, Rey Bucanero

IWRG (SUN) 08/18/2013 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring, IWRG]
1) Andy Wu & Freelance b America VIP & Rey Tiburón
Debut for everyone but Freelance. Andy Wu is a Wrestle-1 trainee studying with Pantera. There is a Rey Tiburon from Acapulco, but the EdR recap suggests the rudos were also Asian. Freelance beat Tiburon.
2) Centvrión, Golden Magic, Mr. Leo b Ángel Dorado, Angel Dorado Jr., Hijo del Ángel Dorado
Tecnicos took 2/3. Dorados debuted and worked as rudos here, but to a loss. Golden Magic got Angel Jr. with a springboard into a Spanish Fly. Crowd liked the match.
3) Apolo Estrada Jr., Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo b Bugambilia, Diva Salvaje, Miss Gaviota
Rudos took 1/3. Avisman was down and grabbing his elbow after a third fall dive. Refs paid attention to him, and not Diablo sneaking in a foul on Bugambilia for the win. Bugambilia looked hurt earlier in the match when an Apolo Estrada Jr. legdrop ended up with Apolo’s backside landing on Bugambilia’s head.
4) Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr., Saruman b Dinamic Black, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pantera
Wagner pinned Hijo de Pirata Morgan with his feet on the ropes and had earlier challenged for a title shot. EdR’s recap suggested Saruman is already considering going back to the tecnico side.
5) Trauma I & Trauma II b Eterno & X-Fly
FdT were still very angry about the Traumas leaving Super Nova hurt on Thursday, and got themselves DQ for excessive violence in the first. Brawl continued thru the second (and into the crowd), and the Traumas submitted the FdT there. Fans turned on the Traumas in the end, though neither side made much of it.

I did not stay up long enough to watch the main event but now I really want to see it tonight. Mr. Leo’s changed his mask so he looks a lot less like Puma (King.) Exotico and Gringos seemed to be building a match for next week.

Help me out with the Angel Dorados if you know. I’ve got four of them: Angel Sr. (or “I”), Angel Jr., Hijo del Angel and Angel II. Do I have one too many?

Court Bauer amusingly turned “Vague ideas on matches” into “rumored/leaked card” for Heroes Inmortales on today’s MLW Radio podcast. Is that how every one reads those things? I need to write better. Anyway, the upside here is Konnan said (probably) yes to Texano/Psycho and no to Secta/Perros and Dinastia/Mini Abismo, reminding us that AAA does not always act logically. Minis being passed over is no surprise, but no idea what the Secta are up to.

By the way, the La Secta teases from the Xalapa taping were well done. The ground work was laid for their turn, but it’s still going to come as a surprise to most people when it airs this weekend.

CMLL has their own press release on Rey Bucanero’s trip to NJPW. They confirm Bucanero is going for the entire tour, leaving 09/03 and returning around 09/30. That would’ve really messed up the Universal tournament had his team won last night and Bucanero advanced, very lucky things turned out how they did. This is not said, but this tour figures to be a make up for Bucanero not making it to this year’s FantasticaMania due his knee injury. (Mistico still hasn’t gone.) Bucanero leaving in a couple weeks means there’s unlikely to be any near term certainty about TRT’s membership, but they’d be better off keeping Tiger around so they can still be three people (and one Comandante) strong for the moment.

Negro Casas talks about his feelings going into and after the 76th Anniversary show. Text and video, and it looks like it might be the first of a series of Anniversary look backs leading into this year’s show.

Drago & Argenis are 4-1 on their AJPW tour, taking their first loss today to a Kenzo Suzuki tag team. Drago used something labeled as ‘Jorge Clutch’ on 08/16, which I presume is a Skayde Special or something like it.

Rey Cometa main events a show in his home arena next Friday.

Ohtani’s Jacket watches indy lucha from 2013.

DJ Spectro looks back at Lou Thesz vs Canek and Dr. Wagner & Angel Blanco vs Super Star & Enrique Vera.

Lineups

IWRG (SUN) 08/25/2013 Arena Naucalpan
1) ? & ?? vs ? & ??
2) Astro Rey Jr. & Freelance vs Carta Brava Jr. & Imposible
3) Centvrión, Dinamic Black, Golden Magic vs Chucho el Roto, Iron Love, Yakuza
IWRG vs AULL
4) Black Terry, Pantera, Veneno vs Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr., Saruman
5) Eterno & X-Fly vs Trauma I & Trauma II [IWRG IC TAG]
X-Fly, Eterno are champions, first defense

Traumas feel like they should already be the tag team champions, since they’re the most important team.

IWRG/AULL match should be fun. And it’s great that second match will make TV.

CMLL (SUN) 08/25/2013 Arena Coliseo
1) Oro Jr. & Robin vs Espanto Jr. & Guerrero Negro Jr.
2) Metálico, Molotov, Starman vs Hijo del Signo, Hooligan, Nitro
3) Estrellita, Luna Mágica, Marcela vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit
4) Fuego vs Shigeo Okumura [lightning]
5) Blue Panther, Diamante Azul, Super Porky vs Euforia, Felino, Taichi
6) Atlantis, La Máscara, Máximo vs Hiroshi Tanahashi, Pierroth, Terrible

If that’s the main event they’re putting Tanahashi in, they might as well just let send him to the beach with a funny colored drink. Not that the semimain is much better. Not that much of anything on this card is much better.

Just when you thought it was safe to go in the water, Metalico versus Hijo del Signo returns. The horror.

IWRG FILL (TUE) 08/27/2013 Arena Naucalpan
1) Black Niko, Ultimo Caballero, Voltar vs Mercenario De La Muerte, Payaso De Plata, Payaso Extreme
2) Alas de Acero & Electro Boy vs Atomic Star & El Ídolo
3) Aliado De Dios, Príncipe Azteca, Zurdo vs Blue Monster, Divino Montana, Látigo
4) Kiuby, Rey Espacial, Super Cash vs Fulgore II, Mr. Leo, Power Bull
Konkreto Gym (Team Kiuby) vs FILL
5) Dagora, Dragón Celestial, Emperador Azteca, Fulgor I, Matrix Jr., Picudo Jr., Seiya, Sky Ángel vs Andy Boy, Haziel, Karate Kid, Orion, Pequeno Gronda XXX, Skrull Metal, Soldado De La Muerte, Star Boy Jr. [Copa Higher Power]
FILL vs Gym Tony Rivera

A lot of the longer running IWRG students seem to have graduated out of these shows – Picudo, Fulgor and Seiya are the biggest names on their team. Tony Rivera’s team has had some turn over since we saw him last.

Mr. Leo used to be in Konkreto Gym and defeated, so that’s sort of a revenge match.

Perro beats Wagner, Rush/Titan/Mascara keep trios titles, Volador/Sombra

1) Bastet & Big Mama b Black Fury & Dark Lady
Black Fury replaced La Sadica.
2) Freelance b SádicoMike SeguraImpulsoSpider BoyPantera ISeiyaKiuby [cibernetico]
Best match of the night, money thrown in. Freelance beat Sadico for the win.
3) Eterno, Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Epitafio, Leviatham, Samael, Tormento
4) Cerebro Maligno b Herejía [AULL LH]
Cerebro Maligno wins the title from his (former?) friend, despite Judas el Traidor helping Herejia during the match. Herejia falls on first defense
5) Chucho el Roto, Iron Love, Terry 2000, Yakuza b Comando Negro, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan, Super Mega
6) Black Terry, Negro Navarro, Pirata Morgan b Gallego, Rocky Santana, Romano Garcia
Black Terry’s right eye was closed shut after taking a kick from Negro Casas on Friday (but he still wrestled and won.)
7) el Hijo del Perro Aguayo & Lizmark Jr. b Dr. Wagner Jr. & Tinieblas Jr.
Perro brawl. Perro snuck in a foul on Wagner for the win.

Dr. Wagner Jr. did a post match interview where he said he does not belong to any promotion, including TxT, but would be up for a 09/01 mask vs mask vs mask match with Santo and LA Park. That’s two weekends away, you’d think they would’ve had a press conference for it if they were really going to do it.

Black Terry’s eye looks ugly in the pictures. No one should’ve been upset if he didn’t work, but he worked.

CMLL (SUN) 08/18/2013 Arena Mexico [@therealfredo, CMLL, Yahoo! Deportes]
1) Cholo & Namajague b Molotov & Oro Jr.
Namajague replaced Zayco. Rudos won in straight falls in a quick match.
2) Hombre Bala Jr., Magnus, Súper Halcón Jr. b Arkángel de la Muerte, Canelo Casas, Nosferatu
Canelo looked fine in his Arena Mexico debut. His grandmother was among the Casas family members in attendance. Tecnicos took 2/3.
3) Felino, Puma, Tiger b Ángel de Oro, Fuego, Guerrero Maya Jr.
Rudos took 1/3. Puma escaped Angel de Oro’s mecedora and put him in a mecedora, then a campana, in a direct reversal of their lightning match finish. Tiger was still in TRT gear and believes he’s still in the group (saying last week was a misunderstanding) but also mentioned teaming up with his family more.
4) Diamante Azul b Euforia [lightning]
Azul won with la de a caballo. CMLL’s recap notes the hold was invented by Gori Guerrero.
5) Dragón Rojo Jr., Mr. Niebla, Pólvora b Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Valiente
Rudos took 1/3, Niebla top rope splashing Mistico for the deciding pin. Fans booed the tecnicos loudly during their post match promo.
6) La Máscara, Rush, Titán b Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys [MEX TRIOS]
Rudos took the first, tecnicos took the last two to keep the titles. Rush Driver on Vangellys for the deciding pin. Titan seemed to be hurt early on and struggled at times during the match. First defense for Rush, Titan and La Mascara

If you’re expecting any clarification on whom is and is not in TRT, you’re following the wrong promotion. 70% chance this is all never spoken again since the trios title program is over.

Canelo Casas popped up on the Arkangel 25th Anniversary show (in Arena Coliseo), but this was his first Arena Mexico appearance. Starting him in the segunda seems to be a positive sign for his future.

CMLL (SUN) 08/18/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Índigo & Meteoro b El Tapatío & Relampago Azul
Tecnicos took 2/3.
2) Demonio Rojo & Jocker b Brillante & El Ídolo
Rudos took 2/3.
3) Sky Kid & Virgo b Infierno & Magnum
Sky Kid replaced Halcon de Plata. Tecnicos took 1/3.
4) Black Metal, Leo, Smaker b Espectrum, Exterminador, Ráfaga
Tecnicos took 1/3.
5) Olímpico, Psicosis, Volador Jr. b Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra, Máximo
Rudos took 1/3. Volador pulled Sombra’s mask and pinned him for the win. Sombra challenged Volador to a title match next week.

I wonder if they’re going to be doing Volador/Sombra everywhere this week (and if I want to see it and the possible apuesta match or if it’ll all seem like repeats.)

Tomahawk won the DTU Alto Impacto title in Arena Solidaridad. Eita’s previously held this title and this seems to indicate Tomahawk will be around at least one more set of DTU shows.

Black Terry Jr. has photos from the WMC show using CMLL/indy wrestlers this Friday.

Lucha Libre in Japan

08/17 Stardom: Dark Angel b Takumi Iroha [STARDOM WONDER] – 3rd defense
The Stardom league tournament, 5STAR GP, starts tomorrow and runs thru 09/23.

NJPW announced Rey Bucanero will be on their next tour. The entire tour runs from 09/05 to 09/28. Bucanero is listed for at least thru 09/14. Bucanero may be on the rest of the shows, but they don’t say and there’s no full cards yet for those shows.

The 09/14 show is at Korakuen Hall, with Tanahashi & Liger defending the CMLL tag team titles against Bucanero and Tama Tonga. This is probably tied to Tanahashi not sticking around for the CMLL Anniversary show, though it’ll be especially odd for Bucanero to be in Japan to build up this title match while Tanahashi is in Mexico. I’m not sure what I want to see happen; Tanahashi & Liger keeping the tag team titles means no tag team titles for a while longer (which may  not be actually important), but Tama & ReyBuc winning the tag team titles means Terrible lost the tag team titles for no good reason (or the Universal tournament, which is the same thing.) I’d much rather see Terrible with the tag team titles than Bucanero, which is where we’re at with Rey Bucanero in 2013.
