CMLL FSE GdR - 02/03/08 (#74)
Recapped: 02/05/08
Same Crazy Dr. Wagner promo from the same week of CAN52 tapings, except Wagner's not on this show. I guess they felt it was crazy enough to be shown everywhere.
Intro: Sangre, Sangre's belt, Miguel and Juan Carlos discus the main event. Heavy Metal talks about getting a titles hot in his promo. Sangre uses this as a springboard to talk about 2008 being the year of Sangre Azteca while not at all addressing Metal's challenge.
BREAK before a match. [dramatic music sting] The great thing about these being more than month lagged is I have no recollection of which one goes two falls. We'll all find out together.
Match 1: Ohara, Okumura, Virus (c) vs Fabian
el Gitano, Metalico, Tony Rivera (c)
Arena Coliseo, 12/30/07
Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:46
Approx Rating: not so much.
Other Match Notes: No entrances. You'd think they'd have the time.
Apparently not so much. Virus' video is fading out as they pick up. Tony's got
his hair way short, because he dared to challenge Ramstein and paid the price,
don'tcha know.
1: Picked up in the middle of a Metalico/Virus sequence, though Ohara and Tony started the match. It's tough to follow a match when they pick the exact camera angle where a referee eclipses the action. Virus schools Metalico on the mat, Metalico tries to back bridge and turn out of it but fails on the turn, and that's about typical of how his looks. Metalico has some issues here. So does Magadan, who calls him "Tigre Metalico". I wonder if they have a fine jar for that. Virus ends up sitting on his back, pulling back both arms then walking him around the ring. It looks awkward, much like the rest of their stuff. Tags to Okumura and Fabian. Both kill some time posing. For the best. Fabian front facelock, armdrag sends Okumura towards his corner. Lockup, break, lockup, Okumura waistlock him and throw shim down, Fabian kips back up to his feet but his punch is turned into an armdrag. Okumura yells at the crowd. Lockup, Fabian with an armbar, Okumura missed on a clothesline, Fabian shoulderblocks him, springboard plancha, one two Virus break sit up while Ohara clears the tecnicos off the apron. About time. Fabian takes corner charges. Tony gets a running kick to the chest and a clothesline to the back at the same time, then Virus scoops him up and powerbombs him down. That's the fall. Rudos beat up Metalico, though the director doesn't care to watch.
2: Beatdown continues. Fabian's held for strikes, including Ohara doing (and screaming) a Kamehameha. That's surely the greatest thing he's ever done. Metalico gets kicked questionably low by Virus. Well, the refs don't really question it much, but the fans have mild objections. Metalico gets one big boot before losing. Tony Rivera is fired up and chest slapping Virus, but Okumura holds him for Virus to get the KO punch. Jawbreaker, Rivera takes a corner whip and is clotheslines by Ohara, but sits there waiting as the rudos work over Metalico to send him in. Rivera boosts Metalico up to the top rope and thrust kicks Virus. Ohara lands his own kick, but Metalico headscissors his out. Tony topes Ohara while Okumura takes care of Metalico, then goes out for his own apron dive tope con giro. Virus works over Fabian, while the crowd mostly sounds disinterested. Fabian turns up the ropes on a corner whip, takes time to set himself, and still gets no distance on the moonsault. In the ring, Metalico reveres a suplex into a small package for fall. Crowd boos noticeably, partially because the announcers shut up to let us hear it. Short falls. I think I know which one goes two falls now.
3: Fabian, standing on the apron, randomly starts hugging Metalico from behind. Maybe not so randomly. Metalico thanks about it, and tries to high ten Fabian. Tries to. These two have been teaming together far too often. Virus and Metalico have a chest slap battle, except Metalico drops to a knee after being hit each time and Virus is barely budged. This is why Virus is awesome. Metalico off the ropes, Virus drops down, Metalico does a forward handstand over him for no reason and then stops to pose. Virus nails him with a back elbow. That is also why Virus is awesome. Elbow to the back. Whip, Virus tries backdrop, Metalico verves to an armdrags. Virus whiffs on a clothesline, Metalico gets a fireman's escape armdrag to send him out, and some more flipping to pose. Fans boo Metalico. Harsh. Okumura and Tony in, and Tony continues the team trend of flipping many times for little reason. For his part, Okumura gets in one clothesline and poses on the middle buckle to celebrate. Chests slaps in the corner, corner whip, Tony runs up the ropes and comes down with a plancha. Okumura's boot is blocked, Tony crushes him with a double rib breaker, and out goes Okumura. Booing, though lesser amounts. Tag to Fabian and Ohara as the rib breaker is replayed. Ohara nearly knocks Fabian out of the ring with a shoulderblock. Ohara revs himself up for another one, off the ropes, waved by, waved by, Fabian trips him. Did Ohara just get out smarted by Fabian el Gitano? Not a good sign. Fabian makes Ohara stop fighting so he can do his stripper dance. Ohara knocks him down with a chest slap and then does the dance himself! That was something. Fabian knocks Ohara out of the ring with a dropkick, Okumura knocks Fabian out with a back elbow. Metalico comes in for the tecnicos and he and Okumura seem hesitant with each other for a the short time their bit last. Metalico dropkicks Okumura out, and follows with a tope. Fabian back in, right into an Ohara backdrop. Ohara quickly adds a slingshot elbow drop, and waves as Ohara trips up Tony, quickly adding a dropkick to the head. Ohara toes back to Fabian and finishes him with a Russian legsweep into an armscissors/wristlock submission, while Tony's top rope dive is reveres into a super armdrag and a crucifix rollup pin. Rudos out skilled them.
Match 2:
Máscara Año 2000, Pierroth, Sangre Azteca (c) vs Heavy
Metal (c), Leono, Sagrado
Arena Coliseo, 12/30/07
Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 14:01
Approx Rating: bad
Other Match Notes: Dubbed entrances. Sangre has his belt, of course.
Sagrado does not have his.
1: Sangre and Leono start on the mat. Sangre controls the action, event pulling off Leone's bandana and messing with his hair before he's armdragged away. Leono tries again, and this time Sangre controls the chain wrestling and gets the arm drags. Zero leg trips, starting, and tags. Mascara and Heavy in, taking a lot of time to pose before fighting. Fighting means "locking up and breaking many times" here. Headlock by Metal, holding it in. Holding it in. Mascara into a hammerlock, Metal looks for a way out. Jumping snap mare escape, zero leg trips, standoff. Tags to Sagrado and Pierroth. Pierroth shares my confusion about this matchup. He Demands a handshake, and gets it. And Pierroth doesn't even cheat! Why is he wearing a 10 jersey. Lockup, break, lockup, break, lockup, Sagrado armdrag. Pierroth complains about a hair pull, and eventually realizes he's bald. This is one of those matches where they snot only stretch out the eventually, but then they repeat the same spot to drive it in. AT least the second time, Pierroth uses the distraction to to chop Sagrado and star t a beatdown. Sagrado gets a double backdrop, Sangre adds an elbow drop, Mascara adds a senton, and Sagrado rolls out instead of letting Pierroth do anything. Mascara's punched as he comes in. Corner whip, corner clotheslines. Metal walks forward steps and then falls down. Mascara stomps him out of the ring. Leono in and chopped and forearmed hard. DOUBLE CHOKESLAM! I did not expect Mascara and Pierroth to do that, and they throw poor Leono down hard. Sangre knocks him out of the with a dropkick to the head. Sagrado in for a second turn, and chopped in the chest and head hard. Double boot for him. Metal on the apron, but unwilling to come in unless gets room. Sangre gives him room - and then kicks the middle rope as he comes in to crotch him. Double front suplex by the old two, with Metal immediately popping back to his feet and taking a big boot out of the ring. Leono back in again. This fall is approaching the total length of the first match. Corner clotheslines for him, and the old guys stomp down Leono in the corner instead of holding his legs open for Sangre's dropkick. Sangre just hangs back as they both boot choke Leono. Sangre kicks Metal down as he comes in, but is surprised by a Sagrado springboard sunset flip one two three - oh, of course SANGRE's the one taking the pinfall. Pierroth and Mascara give us "shock, anger". They threaten to turn on Sangre, who explains they were idiots for leaving him alone 1 on 2.
Q: [Macsara Ano 2000] Que Mascaras Ha Ganado?
A: Mascara Negra, Aseino Negro, Angel del Silencio, Mogur, Anibal
2: Back to even to start. Sagrado with a shoulderblock that actually knocks Pierroth down, and Pierroth takes a couple armdrags too. Sagrado misses on a third (or Pierroth just pulls up. Corner whip, Pierroth walks into a boot, dropkick knocks him down again, and Pierroth decided he's faking a foul and getting out of there. Tags to Mascara and Metal. Mascara fiendishly takes off the shirt he's been wearing all match, knowing the Rules Of Being A Man In Lucha Libre dictate Metal must also take off his shirt. Metal, who looks quite thin here, hasn't taken off his shirt in months (years?) and isn't starting now. Metal looks for a handshake instead. Mascara tells him to take off his shirt, and when Metal will not, Mascara chest slaps him hard. Metal looks for the shake again, and gets slapped again. This time, Metal kicks Mascara in the leg. Whip, reversed, Mascara drops down, Metal stops short and stomps him. He's more fired up then eh has been at any point previously in this match. Metal with chests slaps. Whip reversed, Mascara charge into a double boot, Metal charge out into a hiptoss, puts up the stop sign, and gets in the Heavy Punch. Referee warn Metal about punching, Metal warns them they might get the next punch. Leono and Sangre pose while we're treated to replays of the punch. It probably would've been better without a replay. Leono's getting some boos, of course, and Sangre jumps him as he comes down form the turnbuckle, going nuts with corner stomps. Corner whip, Leono gets boots up, backflips over a monkey flip, and knocks Sangre down with his superkick. Definite mixed reaction to him. Leono 's spinning headscissors sends Sangre out, and Leono takes a dive before flipping back into the ring and roaring. Sagrado and Pierroth again. Rudos tease turn it 1 on 3, but Pierroth backs them off and offer a hug for Sagrado. Mascara is appalled until Pierroth yanks in a punch and a chop. All three rudos work over Sagrado in the corner for no particular reason, and all of the sudden the beatdown is back. Sagrado's mask is untied. Marcela cleans off the other tecnicos while Sangre and Pierroth work over Sagrado. Double clothesline for Sagrado. Crowd shot - sounds like Sagrado's mask came off accidentally on a move here, as the crowd and the announcers scream and the mask lays on his face oddly when they cut back to the ring. Okay, that wasn't much of a mystery. Leono comes in to get beat up as the announcer ducks something or other . Sangre waits on the top rope to do his move, and the old guys take their time setting it up. Questionably low dropkick connects, though I guess it's okay here. Double armbar on Leono finishes him. Metal sneaks in and is able to dropkick Sangre out, then reveres a whip into a thru the ropes dropkick on Sangre. Sagrado in and superkicking both old guys. Mascara grabs Sagrado, Sagrado grabs the ropes, Sangre grabs Sagrado's mask and yanks it off. Mascara and Pierroth cover, but the refs saw the mask pull and award the DQ. This was useless.
Sangre at least has fun with Sagrado's mask. Stomp stomp stomp. Pierroth prefers to rip it up. Pierroth randomly challenges the Guerreros and the Perros, and then segues into talk about his retirement.
That's it.
