CMLL FSE GdR - 01/20/08 (#72)
Recapped: 01/23/08
Open: They sure like having fun with Action Figure Olimpico. His arm don't bend so right. La Mascara does his promo on Sangre Azteca, which would if he was in the main event. Misterioso, helping out Magadan with the action figures, tells Mascara to pay attention to him, while also threatening Stuka (Toluca pride) and blowing off Toluca
Match 1: Diamante Negro Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Virus (c)
vs Fabián el Gitano, Metálico (c), Super Nova
Arena Mexico, 12/16/07
Winner: Rudos
Match Time: 10:24
Approx Rating: What I expected. No decision on Diamante yet.
Other Match Notes: There's no one here. No introductions, but they
smartly give Diamante Negro the rudo pre-match interview to introduce himself.
Super Nova does not yell as much as his brother, so far.
1: Metalico and Virus start on the mat, though the quietness and a zoom in distracts me into watching them discuss spots instead of actually watching the spots. Their sequence doesn't go long before tags to Okumura and Fabian, who sped it up with monkey flip avoidance in to exchange armdrags into zero leg trips. Nova and Negro are last, and Negro is significantly bigger. Super Nova has always been a small guy, but he looks very much like on here. Naturally, Nova immediately gets the larger, muscular man in a full nelson. Nova lets got to get a spinning headscissors, but a clothesline follow up is caught and Diamante clotheslines himself. Diamante shakes the top rope like Batista to celebrating a move. Right hand. Whip, clothesline misses, Nova back, flip for the sake of it, Diamante charges him, Nova ducks down, Negro falls out of the ring. Nova slides out after him and ends up with a apron spinning headscissors. Inside the ring, Fabian dropkicks Okumura in the knee, but doesn't get over to him fast enough. Whip, reversed, Okumura drop toe holds Fabian and finishes him via camel clutch forward roll cradle. Metalico rushes directly in to La Rosa and gives up while still in the nudo.
NO MORE NEW YEARS BUMPERS.
2: Beatdown started during the break, or was fortunate to happen right at the bell. Fabian el Gitano gets thrown out by Diamante Negro, and Negro goes out to get in a few more shots. Nova takes a corner clothesline, a corner back elbow, and a flying axhandle from Okumura. Yea, everyone's taken it down a couple notched. Diamante is the exception for obvious reasons, and he hits a springing inside out dropkick on Nova. Diamante tries to backdrop Metalico out of the ring, but he lands on the apron and bumps Negro into Okumura. Nova comes in with a tope rope armdrags for Negro send him out. Fabian comes in, and tricks Okumura into big booting, uh, Metalico. That's an odd trick. Fabian pays no mind, running to the ropes, leaping over to the apron, changing his mind and running to the corner, climbing up the corner, and leaping off with a moonsault. Fabian gets no distance on the moonsault, as always, and nearly takes a header on the apron. Diamante Negro ducks down to catch him oddly, and doesn't really break the fall. A Ref is out to check on the mess as Nova lands a moonsault on Okumura. Metalico works in his apron push up headscissors, but you can only barely see it. Virus is counted out for the fall as the tecnicos help Fabian up. Replay of the bad moonsault.
3: Okumura and Fabian start out, and in the midst of their sequence, Fabian gives Okumura one of those tap shoulderblocks to set up a move off the ropes, only Okumura takes an back bump off it. I like to think he did it so he could avoid taking whatever Fabian wanted to do next. Unfortunately, Fabian gets in a run up the corner plancha soon anyway. Fabian has a bad tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. There's not even enough people here to boo him again. Oh gosh, they tried it again and it's even worse, Okumura not going up for it at first, and Fabian bailing out to slam him instead. Fabian kicks him in the spine, and Okumura gets the heck out of there. Fabian does his dive pose and I'm proven wrong - there ARE enough people to boo him. Metalico/Virus is nothing special. Negro/Nova is the most fast paced, for the short time it lasts. Nova sends out Negro with a headscissors and follows with a fast moving tope. Metalico gets Okumura with a tope. Okumura slipped on impact, the back of his head hitting the chairs on the way down. That was not good, and Okumura had been trying to avoid dying all match. Virus and Fabian are left in the ring alone, and luckily justice quickly prevails. Nova's too late to break up the submission.
Vignette: Mistico shows off his FSE Luchador of the Year award. They've got a really nice highlight package here which didn't air on CAN52, but must've been used on the award show.
Match 2: Misterioso II, Olímpico (c), Universo 2000 vs Felino, La
Máscara (c), Stuka Jr.
Arena Mexico, 12/16/07
Winner: rudos
Match Time: 9:20
Approx Rating: Okay.
Other Match Notes: Entrances, but no promos, Misterioso's bezerker gear
is still cool, but we need shots of him walking around the street like that. You
notice how Universo 200 has been very much phased down, and no one much
noticed?
1: Felino/Universo (mat), Mascara/Misterioso (ropes -> Mascara tope) and the tecnicos take control of the resulting chaos to take the fall. Stuka gets a top rope splash on Universo, and I think I would've been shocked to see that hold on for a pinfall even in the first fall of a match. Instead, it setup Olimpico trying and failing to break it up with an elbow drop, the tecnicos switched rivals to wrap it up. Some boos after the finish, but the horn tries to blur out all sound.
2: Felino armdrags Universo around, and Universo throws himself out trying to follow up. Universo fights Stuka and the announcers are paying even less attention then Il. Stuka tries a plancha but gets caught and dropped. Universo's senton misses, and Stuka dropkicks him out. Misterioso in, Misterioso eating a back elbow Stuka uses the ropes to flip escape out of a monkey flip, but lands on his knees instead of his feet. Olimpico comes in, is no help to Misterioso. If you come in the ring and grab a guy, and your partner's clothesline ends up hitting you, you have no one to be angry with except yourself. Stuka ends up clearing the ring and faking a dive, much to the sadness of the camera guy racking on the ramp to keep up with him. Rudos finally start the beatdown with La Mascara. Rudos don't waste time cleaning up, though it takes some effort for Misterioso (and Universo) to get Stuka in the right position for the top rope la Rosa. While Olimpico takes care of Mascara, Universo gives Felino a powerbomb of miscommunication. Boos. Magadan starts singing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas", which would be great if it wasn't the end of January.
3: Beatdown continues. Everyone watching the clock continues. Oh, right, fast forward. Rudos are very into drop toe holds and dropkicks to the face. Nothing more interesting that that. La Mascara evades the corner charge to start the comeback by himself. Stuka sends out Universo with a tope rope armdrags, and backdrops Felino into a pescado on him. Tecnicos dropkick out the other rudos, and Stuka gets boosted into a pescado con giro on Misterioso. Olimpico comes back in, Mascara gets him with a loose 'rana, loose enough for Olimpico to roll thru - for three! That's an unusual finish. I don't think Universo realizes Mascara is captain, because he keeps finding. Misterioso grabs his shoulder in pain on the ground, while the other rudos forget about him and celebrate.
Olimpico does a generic promo. Felino challenges him to a one on one match. Olimpico accepts to put his mask up right now, and then walks away.
