CMLL FSE GdR - 01/13/08 (#071)
Recap: 01/17/08

Open: Action Figure Olimpico inner monologues out loud about the main event. Magadan provides the voice They have toy CMLL Welterweight Titles now? Huh. I bet real Olimpico was upset about the lack of muscle definition on Action Figure Olimpico. NEEDS MORE FRUIT. Real Olimpico does a pre-taped bit with his action figure. They're really pushing these things. Olimpico rants to his miniature self. La Mascara provides the counter point. Why does the CMLL ring have a ladder? Does the Corelone figure have a dumbbell? So many questions.

Also: It's mid January and they're talking to me out Christmas. I'm now ignoring all the holiday vignettes.

Match 1: Dr. X, Loco Max (c), Skandalo vs Leono (c), Stuka Jr., Super Nova
Arena Mexico, 12/09/07

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:12
Approx Rating: Nothing special.
Other Match Notes: Dubbed entrances. Tons of empty seats. Stuka does the promo for his team, and picks a fight with Skandalo as he enters the ring. I dunno what's that about. Skandalo has a video but Dr. X does not? Injustice. Magadan tries to see how long he can hold one sound   on Dr. X's name. Loco Max is dressed as black Spiderman. Loco Max is not really worried about his opponents in his interview.

1: Nova and X get the big mat wrestling opening, and it's going along fine until Stuka grabs at Dr. X when he stands up too close to the tecnico corner. Referees and Super Nova have to settle down, and then the next spot is Super Nova giving Dr. X a drop toe hold and Dr. X not going for it for a couple seconds. It does get better from there. Loco Max and Leono are next, Leono complete dominating Loco, and sending him out after two spinning backbreakers and a superkick. Dr. X dropkicks Leono out, and moves out of the way of a Stuka charge. Dr. X stomps him, backs up, and gets backdropped to the apron. Stuka tries to clip Dr. X with a slide, Dr. X sidesteps and follows Stuka to the floor with an apron tope con giro. Inside, Super Nova gives Skandalo a flapjack, and drags him in position for Leono's springboard elbow drop. Leono gets that pin, while Loco comes in just in time to miss a clothesline and eat a quebrada. Nova covers, though Leono has to pull Loco's foot off the ropes to make it legal.

2: It's actually not mid-beatdown when we come back, as Skandalo and Stuka re just standing around waiting for their turn. Stuka showcase, and Skandalo isn't experienced enough yet to be ready for the next move as the previous one is finished, if that makes any sense. Dr. X and Super Nova have a chest slap battle. Dr. X tries to hiptoss him out of the ring, but Nova land on the apron and comes back in with a springing flipping armdrags. Dr. X goes out, and Nova flattens him with a tope con giro. Stuka in and missing a dropkick on Skandalo. Stuka tries to headstand out of a corner whip, but Skandalo just picks him off the corner and gives him a behind the back powerbomb. Loco gets the figure four on Leono for good measure. Did Loco ever beat Leono clean, one on one when they were feuding? I don't know why Skandalo stomps on Leono after the fact, but he does.

3: Beatdown is on. Stuka is kicked around, though they get in a harder shot to Super Nova for standing on the stage. Stuka only gets a back elbow before h goes. Loco Max stops him form rolling out for whatever reason and puts on an armbar while the others are giving Leono a big boot. Corner whip for Nova, Dr. X corner clothesline takes him thru ropes, big chop to knock Nova down, and a swinging dropkick to top it off. Stuka back in, and kicked while still in the corner. Chops for him. Corner whip, Skandalo whipped in after and his clothesline connects. That's it for Stuka. Not exactly a lot of effort in this beatdown. Will Leono break it up? No, triple boot for him. Will Super Nova break it up? No, double boot. Stuka brought in and held for chops. Loco and Dr. X off the ropes for the big shot, but they're pulled out by the tecnicos. Stuka breaks free, dropkicks out Skandalo, teases a running dive, and changes to an Asai Moonsault instead. Loco looks to follow up, but Leon's in. Dr X helps work Leono over, double shoulderblock, to the ropes, Leono after them to trip them up, and Nova sneaks in with a double jump moonsault onto Dr. X. Loco Max celebrates not being hit by that move, but perhaps he'd like to break up the pin? No? Okay. Kick, Leono swinging fisherman's suplex, that's the match.

Stuka stomps Skandalo outside for a bit, I don't know why.

El Diseno: Neutron

Match 2: Averno (c), Olímpico, Trueno vs La Máscara, La Sombra (c), Valiente
Arena Mexico, 12/09/07

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 6:56
Approx Rating: Dives were cool at the end.
Other Match Notes: Dubbed entrances. Sombra has his NWA Title. Valiente does the promo for his team. Trueno has no video and is out first for the rudos. Averno yells his counter point - he has two titles! Do you have two titles? I think not. (No one asked you, Mistico.)

1: Joined right as Averno and Sombra are about to fight. Circle around, just enough so Sombra has his back to the rudos, and that's all it takes for him to get jumped. Even with Trueno pretending to be a rudo for the night, the tecnicos are so over their heads here, and the rudos beat them up in the ring. Trueno does seem a little lost at what to do, but settles on knee dropkicking Valiente. Valiente's set up on the ropes, and the rudos come together for Trueno to do the big sit. Mascara brought in, and whipped around for Trueno to hit a clothesline, which is probably no the idea. Averno kicks him out, and then follows him out to beat him up with chops. Back inside, Olimpico gets Valiente with a nudo, rolling on to his back for fun. Does Trueno have a finisher? Now would be a good time do it. Trueno instead smashes Sombra into the corner and lifts him upon his shoulders, and leaves him there as Averno brings Mascara back into powerbomb him. Trueno camel clutch! We've learned something today!

Q: [La Mascara] ?Cuando debuto?
A: Brazo de Oro Jr., Abril 2000, Salon de la Maraca

2: Beatdown is ongoing. Valiente takes corner clotheslines. Sombra gets a double backdrop and a senton from Trueno. In a ring with smaller guys, Trueno looks notably smaller. Mascara side steps a corner charge from Averno, kicks Trueno away on the charge, ducks Olimpico's clothesline and superkicks him. Valiente comes into tilt-a-whirl backbreaker Trueno after Mascara ducks a clothesline. Averno kicks him away, and ducks a Mascara clothesline, but Sombra gets him with a headscissors, and Mascara follows him out with a tope. Valiente finishes Trueno with an over the shoulder backbreaker into a flapjack, while Sombra beats Olimpico with a bodyscissors cradle into a kneebar! How randomly awesome.

3: Valiente is laying on the floor, writhing in pain, to start, so I think there may just be a clip here. Sombra and Olimpico start what we see, and Sombra want to do a chop battle. This does not work well for him, but he does better with armdrags and dropkicks. Trueno takes over after Olimpico's knocked out and backdrops Sombra, but Sombra land son the apron, punches Trueno away, and slingshots into an armdrag to send Trueno out. Averno, who looked to be working with Valiente either, takes a rebound headscissors and a spinning headscissors out. Averno ducks down to avoid the dive, so Sombra does a rope flip dive fake instead. Tags to Olimpico and Mascara. Posing in the corner. Posing in the corner, Mascara trips up Olimpico while he's posing, but Trueno puts a tops to him with a chop, Mascara fights both of them off, ending with a kick to the head on Trueno and a superkick on Olimpico. Averno tires, gets headscissored and a spinning armdrag. Rudos finally run over Mascara with big boots to knock him out. Olimpico and Trueno are left in against the other two, who get it together to dropkick them both out, and follow with spectacular tope con giros. That looked really good. Inside the ring, Mascara fights off Averno from the apron and lands the top rope plancha. Averno's clothesline misses, Mascara starts for a springboard, hesitates, jumps off anyone, and no one's there. That was quite bad. Averno stomps him, and then fouls him for no particular reason. Referees saw it and award the DQ. Was La Mascara supposed to springboard backwards into the foul, maybe? I don't know. Finish didn't make sense.

Averno and Mascara talk after the match. Mascara may have the pople cheering for him, but Avenro notes he's a DOUBLE chmpion. Mascara wntas a thitle shot, good luck on that.

Replays, and that's it.
