CMLL FSE GdR - 12/30/07 (#70)
Recapped: 01/10/08

Outside the ring: Mascarita Dorada

Intro: Announcers on the Arena Mexico stage. Ephesto and Mephisto acknowledge the existence of the Mexican Trios titles in their promos. Good someone knows they're there. Volador counterpoints. Run in by the Teleton pig.

Match 1: Ephesto, Mephisto (c), Misterioso II vs Felino, Sagrado, Volador Jr. (c)
Arena Mexico, 12/02/07

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 7:12
Approx Rating: Not good.
Other Match Notes: Dubbed entrances, though you can still here the ring announcing way off in the background. You still can't see Volador Jr. Misterioso has his Viking gear.

1: Usual tecnico focused opening, with Ephesto and Felino doing the mat segment, Sagrado working with Misterioso and Volador's finish including a nice tope con giro to the floor. The other tecnicos clean up inside, with Sagrado pulling Ephesto for his moonsault and Felino needing to do a lot of work to get Misterioso in position for his finish.

2: Rudos are in mid beatdown when we pick up the match, so a clip for sure. Usual Triad spots. Sagrado takes a triple face first powerbomb, and Ephesto covers him - while Sagrado's stomach is still on the mat. That's not going to get you a pinfall, but the other two put on passable submissions holds to finish him. That was odd. Volador takes the backbreaker/legdrop combo to end the fall, with the referees counting even before anyone was actually pinning him. Do the refs just have someplace else to be?

3: This match defines edited to heck - they pick up the match literally as Volador Jr. is hitting a handspring double back elbow to start the comeback. This seems to indicate Leono/Mr. Mexico went LONG, and that concept frightens me. Comeback is very brief. Felino and Ephesto  are off the ropes for a moment, until Felino slips out and Ephesto immediately follows with a brutal tope. I guess that's his spot now? Other rudos get shoved off of each other on a bulldog attempt, but the boost dropkick fails and the rudos hit their moves at the same time for the win.

El Diseno: Nitro.

HYPE FOR THE END OF THE YEAR SHOW: a tad bit late

Pre-Show interview with Mr. Mexico: What? Mr. Mexico does dress sharply. He's no Black Warrior, but he's also not just wearing a free gym shirt. Leono's pre-taped counter points. Shouldn't this have been the actual open? Maybe Mr. Mexico was late and they taped two? I don't know. Time is killed.

Match 2: Mr. Mexico vs Leono in a hair match
Arena Mexico, 12/02/07

  1. Leono sunset flip (1:09)
  2. Mr. Mexico powerbomb (3:02)
  3. Leono swinging fisherman's suplex (4:25)

Winner: Leono (2-1)
Match Time: 7:36
Approx Rating: so bad on every level
Other Match Notes: Dubbed entrances. Leono is jacked on his t-shirt. I think Metalico is his second, though we didn't get a good look at him and I'm not much sure later. The participants are coming in from the top of the stage, the seconds are sneaking in from the bottom. Leono has an entrance video, Mr. Mexico does not. I guess the production people can't be bothered to pretend this is not obvious either. Mr. Mexico may not have a second, that sucks for him. I would've totally done it, if asked and given plane tickets Promo from PELUQUERO! The razor is all ready to go. Most over guy in this feud, for sure. I don't want this guy, and his suit, to lose his job, but they should totally create a wrestle who's gimmick is being a (hopefully evil) barber, and then have him legitimately cut the loser's hair after each hair match.

1: What the heck is going on this week? Match starts with both men laying on the floor on the outside, seemingly recovering from a dive. Maybe Leono's tornillo pescado? Leon brings Mr. Mexico, fireman's carry drops him, heads up, and misses on the top rope senton con giro. Mr. Mexico jumps to his feet and kicks Leono in the spine. POSE. Chest slap, whip, big pose by Mr. Mexico, allowing Leon to go up and over for a sunset flip, one two three. ONE MINUTE. I feel conflicted, because I can't honestly say I want to see a long Mr. Mexico/Leono match, but it kinda offends me to endure the build to this and the finish is cut to heck. I would've been thrilled with a horrible match, it'd give me something to work with. Clips are a waste of time.

Q: [Mr. Mexico] Que personajes Tenia? If you get this one wrong, you haven't been watching the show for long.
A: Drago, Mr. Niebla ("de Naucalpan"), Coloso, Vegas, Gitano - and I think they're missing a couple.

2: Joined in progress with Mr. Mexico in control, of course. Mr. Mexico suplexes Leono over and dropkicks him in the back. Chop knocks Leono into the corner. Another. Whip, Mexico rushes in and clotheslines Leono. Whip, boot? Camera hid it from vie wand that might have been for the best. Mr. Mexico slams Leono and elbow drops him. He's quickly running out of things to do, so Mr. Mexico stares at the ref. Whip, reversed, Leono gets in a backbreaker. Crowd reacts, slightly. Actually, they do eventually get behind him. Whip, Leono gives him the rebound bulldog, off the ropes, dropkick knocks Mr. Mexico out. Is this first fall? This is the tornillo pescado, so he must've not done it before. Replays of the dive, which is okay. Both guys are down for a bit. Still can't believe Mr. Mexico couldn't get a second. Both come in from different sides, Leono misses a dropkick. Mr. Mexico does not miss a clothesline. BICEP POSE. Whip, pose, Leono tries to go up and over again, but Mr. Mexico powerbombs him hard. Indian Deathlock POSE for the submission.

3: This fall begins right in the middle of a near fall. I have no idea why. It's a two count, which is slightly surprising. Seriously, they've ruined my enjoyment of LEONO vs MR. MEXICO and I didn't know that was even possible. This is an epic jump of editing. Leono gets a bodyscissors cradle for two. Look at that older gentleman  in the crowd with a Leono shirt. He must be related - I think the announcers may say he's Leono's dad, which would make since. Now, the people with the Leono poster in the front row don't make sense, but what are you going to do. Leono 'rana, Mr. Mexico rolls thru one two NO. Ref isn't doing dramatic slow counts, as far as I've seen and at least by CMLL singles match stands. We're well into the move rest move stage. Mr. Mexico up first and kicking. SUPLEX. Hey, want to cover him? Nah? Mr. Mexico puts an arm over for 1.5. Not a hair match until we get a cavernaria, though Mr. Mexico misses this up by making it 100% hair pull. I think they ran out of dive. Whip, Leono tries the up and over sunset flip again, Mr. Mexico powerbombs him again, but takes his time with a thumb across the throat and a pose rather that following up. ONE HAND ON THE THROAT COVER! One two NO I can not believe it! I'm glad Mr. Mexico is in on the joke. Big chest slap to Leono as he tries to get up. Whip, reversed, Leono clothesline misses, Mr. Mexico tries for a headscissors - no, really. Leono tosses him off on his face. Elbow drop. Elbow drop. Casita, one - Mr. Mexico totally and completely kicks out, two, Mr. Mexico kicks out again and this time the ref will count it. Well okay. Leono's dad shows no emotion. Replay of Mr. Mexico kicking out - he may have done it three times. They jump out of replay right into Leono hitting his swinging fisherman's suplex. How did Leono get to his finisher? The world may never know. One, Mr. Mexico totally has his shoulder up, two, Mr. Mexico is repeatedly lifting it up, three!

That fall was so right.

Leono celebrates the huge victory this obviously is. He and Metalico celebrate with the Leono poster. I think those are actual Leono fans, as odd as it seems. Replay of the finish, though we'll never find out how we got there. Mr. Mexico and Leono chat - Leono says it was a clean one two three, and Mr. Mexico agrees, shakes his hand, and raises him arm up. Exciting Leono promo (framed by tons of empty seats past the first section.) Leono wants a shot at Sangre Azteca's title! Good luck on that. Meanwhile, Mr. Mexico is getting his hair buzzed off, and it doesn't really take long with his haircut. Mr. Mexico talks up Leono, saying he's a swell luchador and was better, this time.
