Welcome To The Show Vignette: Atlantis (who seems to put himself ahead of Los Chivos, what's that about)

Tarzan Boy can't let the hype of upcoming events without adding two cents. I think he thinks they should root for him because he's got better hair. Answering Atlantis in the open, Tarzan says he and GdI are as great as the Chivos.

Match 1: Fire, Pierrothito, Espectrito (c) vs Mascarita Sagrada (c), Tzuki, Shockercito in a minis match
Arena Mexico, 10/01/04

  1. Tecnicos
  2. Rudo
  3. Tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 6:19
Approx Rating: 78. Not much here, especially the first two falls, but there was some nice stuff to end it.

Notes: First minis trios match to air since the Olimpico/Violencia mask match, I believe. This is a revenge match from the previous week, but they didn't appear to have something going in or out of as far as feud. We start in the ring, so the neat shot of Fire with his gloves on fire is skipped. I've seen half these gives live since this match.

Really annoying camera cam is in effect. Clips too. Crowd seems quieter and I can see some front row seats not filled in; wonder if they just don't show up till the main event. MS rushes thru the rudos to start, ending with a apron dive somersault bodyblock for the ghost. They use a split screen when Shockercito and Tzuki go for top rope moves; it's a bit alarming but works. Tzuki turns sideways more than head over heels, but it's apparently good enough.

I think they might have clipped out the whistle for fall two. Announcers hyping up a Guadalajara match that'd end up being really good, I think. Pierrothito fakes a low blow but gets ignored. It does somehow cue the beatdown, oddly. Rudos doing a good job of making sentons and press slams seem huge. Best move is a press slam onto the top rope by Pierrothito, but it's after the fall is actually over.

Nothing particular to add on the third fall beatdown. I think Pierrothito is the best worker of the rudos, but the small guys are making him look good. I start to write down Fire as nothing to write about, but he does become a bit more interesting as things break down (comeback in stages instead of all once), with a smooth transition between a giant swing to a crab, and a neat tie 'em up submission on Tzuki to eliminate him. Shockercito not only uses the reinera (which makes sense), but he works in a 619 followed by a West Coast Pop and a nice tope. That leaves the captains in the ring, and Sagrada easily moves from a springboard armdrag into his desired finishing move.

Stellar Moments
Triumph:
StarMAN with a slingshot somersault plancha and Brazo de Plata Jr. hits a top rope splash to help their team win.
Rudo: Texano reveres a Sangre 'rana to a powerbomb? There's something I'm missing here. Sangre get hurt?
Tope: Neutron reverse top on Loco Max.
Combo: Mep and Averno hold up Mistico for an Olimpico top rope dropkick.
Spectacular: Mistico gets some hang time on a run up the ropes corkscrew plancha to the floor on Averno.

In Other Action: Vampiro and Pierroth seemed to break up (again) during the semifinal on this Arena Mexico show, leaving Pierroth alone with Universo, Apolo and Black Tiger. Out to his save - his family (and Okumura? I'm guessing he was in this match? and he and Black Tiger aren't buddies anymore? The announcers don't mention him anyway.) Vampiro watches all of this from the ramp. This is an nWo situation. Pierroth wants to own the evilness here, and lets Apolo and Universo know it.

Vignette: GdI is holding a meeting, and they need an actual room to do that instead of the old staircase. Loco Max is late and in full S&M gear, which displeases everyone on multiple levels. Who we got here: Arkangel, Nitro, Sangre Azteca, Koreano (now with a C!), Doctor X, Loco Max. This is your usual "beat up Shocker's kids so they stop taking our midcard bookings!) peach.  Rey and Ultimo kick everyone out to discus the amount of tacos they saw someone eat. I think. 14 tacos and skin is all I can figure out but no one says Porky. I *think* the idea is that they're not totally convinced of their own plan and need more help.

Match 2: GdI (Ultimo Guerrero (c), Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy) and Averno vs Negro Casas (c), el Hijo del Santo, Atlantis, Mistico
Arena Mexico, 10/01/04

  1. Tecnicos
  2. Rudos
  3. a

Winner: Rudos
Match Time: 10:36
Approx Rating: 86. Fun if not especially great.

Other Match Notes: New music. BOOO new music. Averno still has Satanico's, and he's got a weird split mask. Santo has a big ol' belt - I think it's the WWA one but I don't get a closer look. Mistico getting the last entrance, nice. Arguably one of the better and bigger atomico matches they could throw out there.

Tecnicos nominate Mistico to go first, and that kinda surprises him. Of course, it's Averno on the other side. CLIP. Apparently Ultimo's being a pest on the outside, and Mistico invites him in. Ultimo isn't going to get punked out that way, so here is he. Lots of build to the lockup, and Ultimo rudely gives Mistico a back heel trip. POWERBOMB. Don't step to the champ, son. powerbomb - no, armdrag! and it's we're really going. Mistico gets the tricky series, and then the wacky headscissors reversal to send Ultimo outside. Dive tease - no, slingshot spinning headscissors on the floor! Not looking for that a minute in. Neither was Ultimo. CLIP. Looks like we missed Atlantis and Tarzan Boy, and we're on to Rey (with his hair already messed up) vs Santo. Santo does his Santo things against Rey and Ultimo, Negro drops Rey with his dive, Santo drops Ultimo with his dive, and Mistico shreds Tarzan Boy with the Hyperspin armbar (that's the name I'm going to go with because it's you know what I'm talking about) as Atlantis gets in his move too.

Averno and Negro to start, Averno actually fearing better to start off. Negro spins and kicks his way out of trouble, though. He's trying to do more agile counters than normal, and get the better of Averno. Mistico and Rey next. Like the open, Rey just shoves Mistico down. Mistico's open hand slaps don't work. Rey's do! Toss to the floor! Mistico rallies back in, and hits a springboard headscissors. Mistico sets up for a handspring dive (!) but Tarzan Boy smartly blocks his path the floor, works in a forearm and drags him to the floor. Mistico uses the ring post to get the edge there, but his prayer causes attacks. It ends up being Averno and Ultimo vs the two silver ones, and the rudos turn it into a beatdown. Ultimo and Mistico get set up into Ultimo's double hangman submission and that'll end it.

Rudos still in control on the third fall, with Negro taking the GdI sit on the outside. They try it on Atlantis, but Rey and Ultimo miss Atlantis pulling the switch with Averno (the neat part is the camera missing it to), making it a total surprise.) and that turns the tide. Mistico has a couple nice looking superkicks on Tarzan Boy in the background of the other six fighting in the ring. It's very nice camera work. (happy shocking, I know!) It settles down to Santo going thru Tarzan, but being stopped by a Rey double underhook head crushing move. Negro breaks up a pin, and he and Rey get into a strike battle, Rey going to a kick to often and given a modified kneebreaker by Negro. Rey almost runs into the Monkey Flip To Nowhere, but saves himself on the apron. He tries for revenge with a Negro suplex to the apron, but Mistico distracts him and Rey ends up being kicked and dropkicked  in the had by Negro to the floor. As they rest, Mistico comes in - and gets tossed into the corner post by Ultimo. Averno charges at him, and HE takes the monkey flip to nowhere from Mistico, while Atlantis is giving a rolling one to Ultimo! Atlantis holds Tarzan down for Santo's top rope somersault senton into a tope on Averno (which is as neat as always); Mistico tried a moonsault at the same time and he may have hit the top rope with his upper body on the way down. Back in the ring, Atlantis has got Pay Dirt (!) locked on Tarzan, but Tarzan's not giving. As Tarzan is not giving up, Negro tries the Casas Special on Rey, but he's too close to the ropes and Rey uses the bottom rope to block the La Majistral and land on top. The ref notices the pin and rushes over to count out, while Rey locks his feet around the bottom rope for more leverage. That'll do it. Rey dances with fans to celebrate.

Next Week: Shocker, Dr. Wagner, Mr. Niebla, Black Tiger, Mistico, Ultimo Guerrero, Pierroth, Canek, Rayo de Jalisco, Brazo de Plata, Satanico, Rey Bucanero and much more.

Back so Averno can point at Mistico some; I think he'll regret that later. Replays of the finish.
