CMLL Line - 11/13/04 (#168)
Typed: 11/19/04

This is the 71st anniversary show, but we're only getting the undercard matches.

Welcome To The Show Vignette: Mistico.

Vignette: Volador and Misterioso attempt to get Mistico (he off the Mysterio 'white iris' contacts) to join their faction and help them get revenge on Olimpico. Say a little prayer and wonder why Mistico has an Italia gym suit.

Match 1: Misterioso Jr., Volador Jr., Mistico (c) vs Olimpico, Averno (c), Mepshito
Arena Mexico, 09/17/04

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 8:09
Approx Rating: 84

Other Match Notes: Big entrances for everyone, as usual for a big show. Some pushing and shoving before the match get started, mostly instigated by Misterioso on the tecnicos side. Tecnicos have matching granite and gold tights, while Averno and Mephisto have new white, red and black gear, including the masks. Olimpico is wearing his usual rudo black gear. One things settle down, it's Mephisto and Volador.  Lockup, break. Lockup, break. Lockup, no, Mep with a single leg, up, armdrag, armbar, Volador kip armdrags out of it. Look at the crowd. Mistico and Averno in now, and both puling from the crowd. Averno trash talking, then shoving Mistico down. Mistico back up, shove isn't as strong, but Averno sells it big. Averno slaps Mistico in the face to knock him to his knees, and kicks him while he's there. Big return slap by Mistico causes Averno to tiiiimber. Off the ropes, over, under, flip over, waved by, and tossed up for an Averno flapjack. Big open hand slap by Averno. Whip, flapjack - Mistico adjusts, stands on Averno's shoulders, and jumps into a overhead headscissors. Dive (fake?) roll is blown as Mistico tangles into the ropes, but he distracts from that by throwing out a slingshot corkscrew plancha real quick. Misterioso and Mephisto in. Mep misses a dropkick, Misterioso misses a right and, Mep tries a wheel kick and is caught and hung for a Volador top rope legdrop. One two three. (2:27) Olimpico comes in to help, and gets a dropkick to the knee, and a Gory Special Neckbreaker. Everyone back in to cover, one two three. (2:41) Replays.

Should note the dramatically changed ring area. Inside the ring, there are Corona ads at each corner, and the ropes change from red to white to green as you go along each side. The turnbuckles (remain?) red. Some of the aprons are now differently colored than the blue mats; the "dive" sides are blue with double yellow lines. The ramp side and the near-to-the-camera is sea green with an advertisement on it.

Outside, it looks like the floors have been painted/replaced with color advertisements on top of the old blue. (It could be mats, but that'd be atypical for lucha and I can't see any folds/ends.) There's a red border around the ring, and white text farther out. At the ends of the

It kind of makes for a busy visual look, because there's so much going on, but it's quite colorful.

Olimpico rushes Misterioso with a back elbow to start. Off the ropes, knee to the head. Stomp by Olimpico. Off the ropes, clothesline misses, and Misterioso hits him with a weak thrust kick. Misterioso off the ropes, Olimpico tries to monkey flips him, but Misterioso blocks it with a bounce off the ropes. Hiptoss, off the ropes, rebound off the rope ropes armdrag. Misterioso does the dive fake, and tags in Mistico, who's immediately nailed by an Averno back elbow. Averno yells at the crowd before continuing. Headlock, off the ropes, back with a shoulderblock. Stomp. Off the ropes, over, under, clothesline misses, spinning headscissors by Mistico works. This time he gets the dive fake to work; Mistico ends it with a little prayer. Mep and Volador in now. Volador of the ropes, over, waved by, handspring but nailed by a Mep dropkick. Open hand slap. Whip, reversed, Volador with a big hiptoss. Volador charges again, gets thrown upwards, lands on the top rope and flips back to the mat, ducks a Mep clothesline, off the ropes, weird standoff with Mep (both expecting the other guy to do something coming off the ropes?) and Volador knocks him down with a superkick. Mep rolls out to recover, but Volador's not giving him that chance - ASAI MOONSAULT. Olimpico back in and getting backdropped by Misterioso. Dropkick, and Olimpico's sent out. Misterioso wastes no time - no hands somersault plancha! Averno's is slightly better. Misterioso ends up going face first into a woman's lap, which is kinda funny. Averno and Mistico now, Mistico gets thrown upwards and Averno powerbombs him down hard, putting his feet on the ropes while pinning, one two three! (2:51) Wow, he stole one there. I was surprised - not used to seeing the rudos win an early fall without a beatdown, I guess. I guess that's why you never make the new kid the captain. Rudos celebrate like there's no tomorrow, or at least no third fall. Replays. Commercial.

Announcers arguing something - did one of the rudos get on microphone? Beatdown IS on as we come back, and Misterioso is up first, taking a quick triple pump powerbomb and being rolled out. As you might expect, Volador is next, though Averno does take a minute to poker Mistico off the apron. Double back elbow by Olimpico and Averno needs better timing, but they'll get it. Triple face first powerbomb for Volador, which leaves very few options for Mistico. Nice longing look at one off the advertisements outside the ring; I'm thinking the ads paid for the new floor. Mistico gets corner whipped, but it works out okay for the rudos (boos). He gets normal whipped, and it works out okay (back elbow.) He gets whipped again, and it works out great (double bounce off the ropes hiptoss.) They even manage to throw him back out! That's deserving of some posing, and the rudos make the time for such important moments. Volador brought back in, given a spinebuster, hung off the apron and dropkicked all the way to the floor by Olimpico. Misterioso in as the rudo announcer quotes and namedrops Vince Lombardi. Misterioso ends up set up on the apron so Mephisto can jump over him and give him a hugely painful looking sunset powerbomb on the floor. Misterioso is definitely not afraid of the big bump. Averno clotheslines Mistico as he comes in to make a run. I guess Mephisto is still down on the floor (it was a big move for him too), as Misterioso is being attended to by the referee. Olimpico is no where to be seen, so I guess he's beating down Volador. IN the ring, Averno tries another powerbomb, but Mistico reverses it to a 'rana with pin, hooking the ropes while covering, one two three! (2:37) One sudden pinfall deserves another. Mistico briefly checks on Misterioso, then goes to collect Volador. Misterioso is still being checked on by the referee, but the way everyone else is treating it, it must not be serious. If it was, Volador and the referee really rudely threw Misterioso back in the ring. I guess he's okay then. Mistico is ecstatic with his win, while Averno can't believe he got cheated like that. And by a man of god!

Stellar Moments
- Koreano jumps right into a Rayo Tapatia fujiwara armbar
- Neutron's spot. Onto Dr. X.
- Vampiro gives Black Warrior a top rope belly to belly suplex for the win.
- Negro Casas tries to take Perro Aguayo's nose off with his boot, and then gives him a dropkick straight to the face.
- LA Park's slingshot corkscrew plancha on to Ultimo Guerrero

Dr. Wagner - Manual Gonzalez
Descanse En Paz

In the center of the ring, we see Dr. Wagner Jr. in a Dr. Wagner Sr. mask talk about his father, and they have a minute of applause for Dr. Wagner Sr. as they play music (his music?) We skip ahead to Dr. Wagner leading along the crowd in a chant for Dr. Wagner Sr. "WAGNER" chant as we fade out.

I think we just saw one guy in Dr. Wagner mask, though he sounded very different between the first scene and the second scene because he wasn't doing the Wagner voice to begin with. Could've been Silver King at first, though it didn't seem like there were two different people there, and if someone came and left, they sure didn't make it clear.

Match 2: Atlantis (c), Blue Panther, Mascara Sagrada vs Vampiro, Tarzan Boy, Pierroth (c)
Arena Mexico, 09/17/04

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 6:22
Approx Rating: 68. Things you've seen before, done worse with a bad finish and not much time.,

Other Match Notes: Atlantis has the craziest entrance. Two guys in black hooded robes walk out from opposite sides of a curtain that's now in front of the big screen. They face each other and take off their robes, revealing themselves both as Atlantis! Or at least people wearing Atlantis gear and generally the same size. They assume fighting stances towards each other, stop and turn to the crowd with arms raised, and then go behind the curtain. The lights dim, fireworks go off from the ring corners, and Atlantis is standing in the ring, wearing his Tag Team Championship belt. So weird. In comparison, his CMLL Tag Team Championship partner just walks out to his music and wears his belt. Vampiro wears a Shocker "1000% Guapo" t-shirt to confuse us all. He's very good at that. They play his music for a big long - did Tarzan Boy miss his cue? Pierroth has dancers and the minis doing flag waving. Wait - those aren't minis, those are his sons, I think. Pierrorithito is hanging around, but the new guys are wearing yellow and black masks.

I'm happy to report the polar bear is in the rowdy tecnico fan section, and he's got a nice scarf. Pierroth has something to say, but probably not about the poncho. It's to introduce his sons - Hijo and Junior. Hijo gets the microphone to say Pierroth's got his whole family to back him up now. Pierroth wants to sing the anthem, but all the Pierroth's get dropkicked out of the ring. And we're off.

The 5.5-3 situation gets settled with the non-La Nazi backups being forced away from the ring while the rudos turn it into the usual first fall beatdown. Just about everyone here has new tights, with Panther's footprint ones looking pretty good. Nothing too memorable, outside Mascara Sagarda not going over the top rope on a clothesline for that purpose. Pierroth ended up senton-ing him and pinning about twenty seconds later. (1:57) Vampiro holds Blue Panther for a Tarzan Boy missile dropkick, added a chokeslam, and that's it. (2:15). Replays.

Beatdown continues on with Atlantis taking a 3 on 1. Actually, there's a crowd shot before it and the audio jumps, which explains why the first move on Atlantis - a whip, natch - leads directly to the comeback. Vampiro and Blue Panther have an exchange that's funny just for Vampiro having to go out of his way to screw up to give Panther back control. Usually comeback stuff with this group, heaving on the striking but you get your tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Settles down into a Sagrada/Pierroth match, though they have a disagreement on a whip. Lots of open hands slapping. Pierroth takes a drop toe hold into the middle buckle, and Sagrada kinda dropkicks over Pierroth by accident, which the camera can't hide. Oh well. Pierroth heads out, Tarzan knocks Sagrada out, but that just leads to the finishing sequence; Panther bumps Tarzan over to Atlantis, who loses Tarzan in the Atlántida set up, opting to drop him and sit on top for a pin, one two three (2:05). Panther gets a hammerlock forward roll up for his pin on Vampiro (2:07) and we're tied up. Replays.

Third fall. Tecnicos hold the ring and signal to the crowd. Audio jumps as we get the crowd shot. Pierroth takes Atlantis down with a hipblock takeover. Corner whip, and Pierroth goes into Atlantis double boot. Clotheslines out by Atlantis, and a dropkick as a followup knocks Pierroth out of the ring. Dive fake, stopped with Pierroth ducks down. Atlantis tries a pescado instead, Pierroth moves, and La Nazi takes it. Tarzan and Blue Panther in, and Tarzan is quickly sent flying into the turnbuckle. Panther bumps Tarzan out, and half heartedly (tired? Tarzan moving anyway?) fakes a tope charge to get Tarzan to move around the ring, into the path of a Mascara Sagrada plancha. Vampiro and Blue Panther, and Vamp pulls out the Shocker corner clothesline in, bulldog out move. Off the ropes, 'rana reversed into a Panther powerbomb. One two NO. Panther clothesline knocks Vamp into the ropes and buys him time to point to the crowd. Another running clothesline brutally takes them both to the floor. Atlantis and Pierroth back in, and Atlantis hits one dropkick before missing another. Pierroth wastes no time kicking Atlantis low blow, right in front of both referees, and that's a dumb finish for a big show. (2:02) Pierroth could care less. Outside, Tarzan and Vampiro are - getting phone numbers? Tarzan shakes hands with one moussed haired gentleman (and his date) that we've been seeing all evening. Moving on to bigger issues, it seems that both Vampiro and Tarzan Boy are unhappy with how Pierroth cost them the match for no particular reason. We see an argument and no more before the break.

Next Week: El Hujo del Perro Aguayo, Canek (since they don't have a black screen video pose from him, we appear to get a brief snippet of his anniversary match entrance! - this is the stuff that'll keep me up at nights, because now I know somewhere, they have/had that match on tape), El Rayo de Jalisco, Dr. Wagner, Atlantis, Vampiro, Universo 2000, Blue Panther, Negro Casas, Mr. Niebla, Mistico.

More arguing, more replays.
