Ayumi vs Marcela in a lightning match: The title change is not much of a surprise now – they turned Ayumi rudo (the gold changes people!) and she lost, it’s a pretty good indication something’s up. This was a lot of trying to get in moves to fit the time limit, but they got in some painful looking stuff. Next week should be good if it got time.

think it was actually Angel de Oro who screwed up, but Mr. Aguila gets to look like a weirdo

Ángel de Oro, Super Porky, Valiente vs Averno, Mr. Águila, Olímpico: not a lot of a match due to time considerations. They spent about 2/7ths with Olímpico and Valiente just warning up the mat, so they didn’t exactly make the most of it. It was fine but I wouldn’t exactly miss it.

spit > slap

Atlantis & Mr. Niebla vs Rush & Terrible in a National Parejas Increible final match: Not a lot as a match in itself, just a long backdrop to Terrible & Rush breaking it up. If last week was about how destructive they could be if they got along, this was more about how self-destructive they’d rather be if they were put together.

Dragon Lee & Rey Cometa

recap

taped 2012-03-04 @ Arena Coliseo
Diamante, Dragon Lee, Rey Cometa vs Euforia, Namajague, Shigeo Okumura: Good for the time. Dragon Lee did Dragon Lee things here. Rudos really didn’t get much but got the win, so I think they went home happy. Not enough karate.

Fuego & Stuka

Fuego, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Hooligan, Pólvora, Skándalo: Good week 1 set up for the title match. They probably need more weeks than that, but I’d trade less predictable build for more frequent title matches. Bette planning might work too.

La Sombra, Shocker, Super Porky vs Kráneo, Morphosis, Psicosis: Run of the mill match. Shocker’s about the same as Shocker’s been, which is not really anything worth noting. Better to have him than not and the fans enjoyed the match, but it’s routine.

police brutality

La Braza & Pimpinela Escarlata vs Pasion Kristal & Yuriko: Bad. Braza is normally poor, and Pasion Cristal and Yuriko were screwing up things all over the place. Pimpinela was way above the rest of this, but that’s not saying that much. Maybe they shouldn’t be putting the exoticos on TV if this is what they’re going to be doing.

Fenix, dive 1

Daga, Fenix, Gran Apache vs Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro: Good until the last minute or so, where 911 and Apache did not seem to be in the same book. They got the finish, and it was neat to see the Oficials win (clean, they don’t even do that in IWRG), but there was nothing otherwise about the match that made them look like a great team for people who had never seen them. AAA’s team got in a lot of offense, Oficials were missing the teamwork spots.

no one went to the cooler, but this was IWRG enough

Cuervo & Ozz vs Chessman & Último Gladiador [AJPW TAG]: Nothing but turn taking doing moves, the whole way. Not really done at the speed to make it worked, way too slow for that. This match left the me cold, and the crowd didn’t seem to get into it – it never built to anything, it was just stuff happening until a conclusion. This AJPW title bit hasn’t meant a single thing in AAA.

tornillo

Héctor Garza vs Heavy Metal, Toscano, Joe Lider in a AAA’s Rey de Reyes Tournament semifinal match: I liked this match more that everything before it; the four way worked as far making this an interesting match. I usually have problems with everyone in this match (referee included) but it melded together well. I have no problem with Heavy Metal losing to his own hold (on a night he was honored, even), but he did look far more lucid here than his previous time thru. Always a nice sign. Garza biting Sombra’s finish is sure an peculiar choice – he should’ve picked one of his better ones!

Cibernético vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Juventud Guerrera in a AAA’s Rey de Reyes semifinal match: It’s silly to have Piero and Tirantes only cheating the Consejo guys once and acting normal all the way up to that spot, but I can’t complain about an AAA match having ‘not enough’ rudo heel spots. This was some run-ins and some wrestling and nothing worth great.

Demus is crazy

Bengala & Robin vs Cholo & Ramstein : basic opening match. Nothing much of interest. Bengala is good enough to a level above this, but you need guys like him to keep these matches from being poor.

Cacao

Astral, Fantasy, Pequeño Halcón vs Demus 3:16, Pequeño Nitro, Pierrothito : despite Pequeño Nitro being off on Mars multiple times during this match (wrong place, lots of the time), this was really good. Surprisingly so considering the iffy técnico side. It was very rudo dominated, but didn’t follow usual form – no beatdown, no comeback, no big dives, just the one at the end that was counted. Pierrothito is underrated as an athlete, and Demus seems like one of the most over luchadors in CMLL.

Fuego, Mr. Cacao, Pegasso vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Nitro, Skándalo : This is total build to a tag match in another promotion I probably will never see. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t feel like I really need to see the tag match. Cacao is different than the CMLL técnicos, but he’s more notable for getting Arkangel to do stuff than his own actions.

Warrior making sure this pin counts

Black Warrior, Sagrado, Sangre Azteca vs Morphosis, Shigeo Okumura, Vangelis : Black Warrior is NOT on the list of people allowed to lose trying leglocks. This was a match that happened and that’s OK.

this seems vaguely illegal

Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Tiger : strong win for the challengers, to set them up as the challengers. Técnicos only got in the sneak first fall win and the run of offense in the third fall. This was not an exceptional match by itself but it did make me want to see next week’s match.

taped 2012-02-26 @ Arena Coliseo
Fuego, Mr. Cacao, Titán vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Skándalo : Cacao vs Arkangel is the most focused long term feud in CMLL. I’m not sure what that says, except it’s probably one not being booked by CMLL and unlikely to finish in a CMLL ring. Weirdly, the announcers seem to think it’ll end in a NJPW ring – all people from Japan wrestler in New Japan, you see. This was good build to the match we’re not seeing. No sense they were setting up Fuego/Stuka vs Hooligan/Skandalo here.

Mije > Maya

Ángel de Oro, Guerrero Maya Jr., Sangre Azteca vs Mr. Águila, Olímpico, Vangelis : Good match for random teams. Mije was totally a non presence until the finish, and then he was the biggest start of the match. Aguila out surpassed Olímpico as biggest goofball on his team.

Averno, Pólvora, Volador Jr. vs La Máscara, Máximo, Valiente : Kind of a quick reset finish for last week’s title change, with Mascara defeating Volador in the most humiliating fashion. Actually, I hope that’s what that is, and not that they’re setting up the rematch here. This was a good main event, and I’ve had little problem with Pólvora filling in the last month.

kung fu wars

taped 2012-02-24 @ Arena Mexico
Dalis la Caribeña, Estrellita, Marcela vs Amapola, La Comandante, La Seductora : I’m not blaming any one person here, not even the people in this match, but CMLL’s got to cut out the surprise small package out of nonexistent leg locks. That bit needs to banned right away. Loco Max or Felino may be exempt, but the vast majority of these people who never ever even try a figure four (much less win with one!) must stop this immediately. It is not a surprise finish when it’s always happens, it’s people being dumb repeatedly. This match was in the OK range, though the strangely long first fall and short third fall probably was not the plan, and Dalis would probably like to forget this entire thing.

Diamante, Dragon Lee, Triton vs Hijo del Signo, Namajague, Shigeo Okumura : (Add Signo to the acceptable leglock people.) This one had it’s high points and not so high points. Triton looked as good as he has recently, and then the dive botch at the end happened. Namajague is a really entertaining character already (and gets along well with Hijo del Signo), but it was clear multiple times that he was not where he was supposed to be or not doing what others expected him to do. Dragon Lee had the great sequence with Namajague and then blew his headscissors. This will make a great highlight video, but looked a bit too rookie-ish in the full match.
