Hijo de Dos wins heavyweight championship, Chilanga Mask

IWRG (SUN) 07/20/2014 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring, IWRG]
1) Atomic Star & Electro Boy b Alfa & Omega
2) Guerrero Mixtico & Hip Hop Man b Alan Extreme & Dragón Celestial
Alan Extreme challenged Guerrero Mixtico a hair match, but Guerrero declared Alan wasn’t near his level.
3) Apolo Estrada Jr., Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo b Emperador Azteca, Imposible, Metaleon
Tecnicos lost, challenged for a (Mexico State) trios title shot and the Gringos accepted.
4) Bestia 666, Damián 666, Eterno b Golden Magic, Relámpago, Rey Horus
Rey Horuz looked good in his debut.
5) Hijo De Dos Caras b LA Park and Máscara Sagrada and Pirata Morgan and Demon Clown and Dr. Wagner Jr. [IWRG IC HEAVY, Ladder]
Probably first ever IWRG ladder match for the vacant championship. (Vampiro last won the title and immediately retired.) They broke the only two ladders which could be used to climb to get the belts. They found a third ladder, the kind you lean against a wall, and Pirata Morgan and two referees held the ladder up so Hijo de Dos could climb it. Dos couldn’t get the belt untied from the rope for a long time, but was eventually declared the champion. Match sounds like a disaster, Tercera Caida called it a match with a lot of errors.

That’s probably much how that match sounded it was going to go. (That was the wrong group to have in a ladder match too.) At least Hijo de Dos will likely be around to defend this belt at some point.

The tercera result makes no sense to me.

Estrellas del Ring has more details on last afternoon’s ChilangaMask show. Besides Aeroboy/Terry III, they also set up Traumas vs Mohicano Sr/Piel Roja in a two masks vs mask/hair match. Not sure when, but that gives them a bigger match down the line. Hormiga/Arez originally ended in a double countout of the ring, but they restarted the match and Arez won. Psico Kid threw his mask to Karma to draw a DQ in that trios match. It reads like the the Terry/Aero & Belial/Impulso matches were the best matches, with Zoom Driver/Carissma getting over because it’s different style.

Konnan says AAA is taping the El Rey show in August. No more details than that.

Myzteziz & Angel Metalico (replacing Fenix) defeated Hijo del Fantasma & Averno in Tijuana. It seems like Fenix is being held off non-TV shows but may still end up working in Ecatepec. Daga successfully defended his Cruiserweight title against Eterno, Australian Suicide, Pentagon Jr. and Willie Mack.

Arena Puebla has the Guerreros defending the trios titles against Atlantis, Volador and Valiente. A title change seems possible to keep the Atlantis/UG feud going, but the Guerreros are still the favorite to just retain and keep the status quo. Princesa Sugehit and Princesa Blanca have what appears to be their one and only singles match in the undercard.

TKD writes about the value of original masks.

The latest Konnan Big appearance in Arena Coliseo Monterrey seems to have drawn well.

Segunda Caida watched El Hijo del Santo, Octagon & Rey Misterio Jr. vs Psicosis, Blue Panther & Fuerza Guerrera

Totem II won the Veracruz Welterweight championship from Vengador Radioactivo in Arena Xalapa.

Lucha Libre in Japan

07/20 Dragon Gate: Flamita (c) b Dragon Kid [BRAVE GATE] – third defense

Flamita is listed on cards back in Mexico in August, so he’s going to be holding this belt for a while longer.

07/21 NOAH:
Jushin Liger & Tiger Mask IV [O] b Super Crazy & Matt Striker [X] [JTL] – Crazy/Striker start 0-1, next match 07/28
Taiji Ishimori & Astushi Kotoge [O] b Rocky Lobo & Jizno [X] [JTL] – Lobo/Jinzo are now 0-2, next match 07/24

Which Mexican team will get a win first? (Probably the Crazy/Striker one, because they set up Crazy as the next singles challenger earlier.)

1) Black Panther & Flyer b Cholo & Espanto Jr. Black Panther & Flyer vs Cholo & Espanto Jr., on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Black Panther replaced Molotov. Third fall eliminations went Espanto Jr. (Flyer moonsault), Flyer (Chololock), and Cholo (Panther armbar), but Cholo nearly got the win after an Espanto distraction.
2) Mercurio, Pequeño Olímpico, Pierrothito b Angelito, Eléctrico, Shockercito Angelito, Electrico, Shockercito vs Mercurio, Pequeno Olipico, Pierrothito, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Rudos took 1/3. Shockercito replaced Bam Bam on Monday. Feed cut in and out on the match, but looked good when it was airing.
3) Oro Jr., Starman, Tritón b Cancerbero, Metálico, Raziel Oro Jr., Starman, Triton vs Cancerbero, Metalico, Raziel, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Tecnicos took 1/3. Metailco pulled off Oro’s mask for the DQ. Good match for what we could see of it.
4) Boby Zavala DCOR Blue Panther [lightningBlue Panther vs Boby Zavala in a lightning match, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Good match, ending with neither men being able to return to the ring after a Zavala tope at the 9:55 mark. They shook hands after the match.
5) Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys b Ángel de Oro, Rey Cometa, Titán Angel de Oro, Rey Cometa, Titan vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Rudos took 2/3 in a very good match.
6) Marco Corleone, Máximo, Rush b Euforia, Mr. Niebla, Niebla Roja Marco Corleone, Maximo, Rush vs Euforia, Mr. Niebla, Niebla Roja, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Rush worked with his partners as if it was old times (or last year.) Zacarias was more involved than he’s been in matches this year as well. Bufete took 1/3 with no hint of a Maximo/Niebla feud.

Really good show. No bad matches and everything good, especially the middle section. Zavala’s match with Panther (which was probably intended to be a time limit draw and came up just a little short) was probably his best career match.

CMLL (SUN) 07/20/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Meteoro b Relampago Azul
2) Demonio Rojo b Índigo
3) Demonio Maya & Évola b El Brillante & Javier Cruz Jr.
Rudos took 1/3.
4) Sádico b Leo © [OCCIDENTE WELTER]
Sadico took falls 1/3 to win the championship. Leo falls on his annonced fifth defense
5) El Cuatrero, Sansón, Universo 2000 Jr. b Esfinge, Gallo, León Blanco
Universo 2000 Jr.’s debut in this building. Rudos took 2/3, rudos unmasking Gallo and pinning him to win.
6) Máscara Dorada & Volador Jr. b Felino & Puma
Tecnicos took 2/3

Sadico is the Guadalajara local who looks like Eterno. He and Leo were both on 52MX building to Leo’s hair match, and Sadico looked much better so this is a fully endorsed title switch.

Carisma & Zoom Driver were added to this match. Toxico beat Tempestad to win.
5) Carisma b Zoom Driver [30s Style]
6) Impulso b Belial
said to be a good match
7) Trauma I & Trauma II b Mohicano Sr. & Piel Roja
8) Aero Boy b Black Terry
Aero Boy won to even the score for last time. They agreed to a tiebreaker match.

Crowd doesn’t seem to be down that match despite not having CMLL names this time around. They announced a 09/20 show in Guadalajara. Probably more notes on the show during the week when recaps get posted.

I do not have a link to point you towards, but I’m told TripleMania will air on conventional Sky PPV in Mexico in addition to the currently announced iPPV. There may be advertising out for it already. (This is another thing I was wrong about.) It sets up a very interesting head to head between WWE’s SummerSlam and AAA’s TripleMania, both airing via Sky PPV on the same night. It’s been a while since we’ve heard about the ratings for either show but, the last anyone said, AAA was bragging about beating WWE’s numbers. Doing the same on 08/17 would have to be considered a huge triumph and a plausible outcome. WWE’s bringing back Brock Lesnar as the centerpiece of their show, but all the Mexicans on the show have been marginalized and the TripleMania name is something really strong right now. Getting PPV numbers is even more impossible than getting TV rating numbers so it’s unlike we’d ever know who won, but Sky airing both shows is definitely going to cost WWE a few tens of thousand buys.

AAA posted one two three promos from Tommy Diablo and Sensacional Carlitos to hype their appearance in Ecatepec next Sunday. They’re pretty good, though I would definitely pick the third one if I was just going watching one. They’re not at all related – as if they were meant to air over the last three weeks of TV and didn’t, or if they sent in three so AAA could pick one and they ended up picking all three. The Puerto Ricians are under the impression either that the Ecatepec match is for the tag team titles (which it doesn’t appear to be) or that they’re getting a tag team title match down the road (which is appears to be the plan.)

Lucha Libre in Japan

07/19 NOAH: Mitsuhiro Kitamiya [O] & Hitoshi Kumano b Rocky Lobo [X] & Jinzo [JTL]
team Tulancingo drops to 0-1 to start the tournament. They have their next match Monday. That show also has the first match for the Matt Striker/Super Crazy team, who face Liger & Tiger Mask IV.

Lineup

CMLL (SUN) 07/27/2014 Arena Coliseo
1) Fantasy, Stukita, Último Dragoncito vs Mercurio, Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Universo 2000
2) Black Panther, Soberano Jr., Star Jr. vs Guerrero Negro Jr., Hijo del Signo, Nitro
3) Dragon Lee, Fuego, Oro Jr. vs Metálico, Skándalo, Virus
4) Rey Cometa vs Okumura [lightning]
5) Ángel de Oro, Blue Panther, Sagrado vs Gran Guerrero, Pierroth, Pólvora
6) Marco Corleone, Máscara Dorada, Stuka Jr. vs Euforia, Felino, Mr. Niebla

Oro versus Metalico continue feuding, 3 months away from their mask match. Fifth match seems like a major struggle. Main event is Dorada’s return to Terra. Odd to get five trios matches on one show; if there had been a tease of a singles match here, I’d figure the card was about to get changed.

CMLL (SUN) 07/27/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Reyco vs El Tapatío
2) El Ídolo vs El Yaqui
3) El Capitan & Explosivo vs Jocker & Thunder Boy
4) Virgo vs Demonio Maya [lightning]
5) Esfinge, Gallo, León Blanco vs El Cuatrero, Sansón, Universo 2000 Jr.
6) La Sombra & Valiente vs Rey Bucanero & Shocker

Semimain is a rematch. Tercera would be Capitan’s first appearance this year. “Reyco” is on his fourth different spelling in the last seven months.

Shocker & Casas hold onto the tag titles, AAA iPPV, Electroshock vs Jarrett in a cage?

CMLL (FRI) 07/18/2014 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Akuma & Guerrero Negro Jr. b Leono & Sensei
Rudos took 1/3.
2) Fuego, Pegasso, Tritón b Misterioso Jr., Puma, Sangre Azteca
tecnicos took 1/3.
3) Dalys, La Seductora, Princesa Blanca b Lluvia, Marcela, Princesa Sugehit
straight fall for the rudas. Marcela was DQed in the first, and Blanca illegally helped Sedcutora win the second.
4) Máscara Dorada, Valiente, Volador Jr. b Ephesto, Felino, Hechicero
Tecnicos took 1/3.
5) Atlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Stuka Jr. b Pólvora, Rey Escorpión, Último Guerrero
Tecnicos took 2/3, Dragon Rojo beating Escorpion while Stuka did the same to Polvora. Atlantis suggested the mask match with UG take place at the Anniversary show.
6) Negro Casas & Shocker © DQ La Sombra & Rush [CMLL TAG]
Rush & Sombra took the first, Shocker & Casas took the second. In the third, Rush beat Shocker with a Rush Driver, Casas beat Rush with a casita, and Rush interfered for the DQ. First defense for Shocker & Casas.

It appears Casas was about to win, or at least had Sombra in a near certain casita, when rush ran in for the angry man DQ. They built up two paths to victory for Casas – he could beat Rush, and Rush could beat himself. As always, Sombra considers it a win if they humilate the tecnicos.

Common sense suggests CMLL will take advantage of the one of the biggest crowds of the year and announce Ultimo Guerrero vs Atlantis in a no foolin’ mask match on Juicio Final. (They also should have announce a date.) Not always sure we’re dealing with common sense, but they’re moving that direction.

AAA posted English and Spanish language teasers for the TripleMania iPPV. There’s no official press release, but there is a big graphic on AAA’s website. TripleManiaTV site is now listing the price of the show at $13 USD (180 MEX) if you purchase before the end of the month. (No idea what it’ll be later.) Again, I really hope this works but buyer beware. It won’t be available on traditional PPV unless something changes. I don’t know if this means anything, but there’s no mention of the show being available on demand after the fact – it’s listed simply as Watch Live. I would assume it would be, but it’s a new company so it’s hard to be sure. The About AAA has gotten an overhaul, definitely needs a bit more tweaking, but does reveal the obvious news of Myzteziz being on the card.

AAA already posted a bunch of vignettes from today’s AAA TV show, including Electroshock challenging Jeff Jarrett to a hair vs hair match in a cage (to keep Sociedad.) Hey, if they can combine the never-any-good cage match with the never-any-good Jarrett TripleMania match and make room for a good match, I’m all for a cage match. I think think is probably happening if AAA’s mentioning it on TV this close to TripleMania, but they’ll still probably throw other people in this and neither Electroshock nor Jarrett will lose. If there’s anything we know about Jarrett, it’s that it takes quite a few major shows to get to the blow off match.

Electroshock also teases a surprise to counter Karen Jarrett. Lady Apache coming in to set up a couples feud seems to make sense, but I haven’t heard her mentioned up to now. Lady Apache doesn’t seem to have found a lot of indy work and she’s be a great addition to AAA.

There’s also an inexplicable Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. mystery admirer storyline. It’s Mamba, isn’t it. Isn’t it.

A Toluca report on Thursday’s show on AAA doesn’t have much in the way of results, but lists a return date of 08/21 (Thursday after TripleMania) with a main event Myzteziz, Argos, Argenis vs Mesias, Averno, Zorro. That’s Mesias on the rudo side but also Argos on the tecnico side, so it may be meant to be a relevos increible. Mesias being a rudo would be surprising news, since he’s believed to have turned down that switch late last year. That show would also mean AAA can’t be heading to Los Angeles immediately after TripleMania, since Myzteziz and Mesias figure to be part of any El Rey tapings.

Rob has highlights for 04/25/14 CMLL.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Segunda Caida reviews Chanoc y El Hijo del Santo vs. Los Vampiros Asesinos

Estrellas del Ring writes about Cuernavaca luchadors who’s names are also used by others. The multiple Fenix/Ave Fenix’s are a plague, but generally people need to be more creative with names. Almost any single word name is or was being used by someone else.

Lineup

IWRG (WED) 07/23/2014 Arena Naucalpan
1) Black King vs Power Bull
2) Alfa & Omega vs Matrix Jr. & Muerte Infernal
3) Emperador Azteca & Látigo vs Hip Hop Man & Zurdog
4) Alan Extreme, Golden Magic, Miss Gaviota vs Canis Lupus, Rayan, Spartan
5) Diva Salvaje, Relámpago, Veneno vs Danny Casas, Eterno, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000

A show. They’ve obviously trying to conserve money, but they also appear to be conserve brain power. And some very familiar people have been very conspicuous by their absence.

No points for guessing Black King is Kalim Black’s new gimmick.

CMLL (SAT) 07/19/2014 Arena México
1) Hombre Bala Jr. & Súper Halcón Jr. vs Canelo Casas & Disturbio
2) Goya Kong, Marcela, Silueta vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Zeuxis
3) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Valiente vs Puma, Tiger, Vangellys
4) Máximo vs Ripper [lightning]
5) Atlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Titán vs Rey Escorpión, Shocker, Último Guerrero
6) La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Volador Jr. [Relevos Increíbles]

Video promo for the show.

What’s easier: turning Volador or listing half the main events as Relevos Increibles?

Weird that Shocker is around but in the semimain. He’ll obviously get involved in the main event.

I can already see Dragon Rojo and Rey Escorpion showing up to the Anniversary press conference and asking to be included in the main event contract.

Would be looking forward to the tercera if there was a chance I could actually see it.
