Eterno takes Chicano’s hair, top sixty dives of 2014, Comandante Pierroth on his struggles

Wagner’s first match here since May (probably due to him being around after working Saturday’s UWE show.) Danny caught Canis with a cradle and wants a title shot, but Canis said Danny’s got to prove himself in a non-title match first.

DQ in a super libre match after a ref was accidentally stabbed with a fork.
5) Eterno b Chicano [hair]
Seconds were Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. (Eterno) and Danny Casas (Chicano). Not sure why Canis wasn’t the Eterno’s second except they had a feud to set up. Chicano took fall 1, with Eterno bleeding already. Eterno rallied back to take 2/3, the last with a Spanish Fly. Mascara 2000 got involved in the post match (Chicano blaming him for the loss?), and he and Universo are now involved in the tag feud with Eterno/Canis & Chicano/Danny
Eterno avenges a hair loss four years later. Match should air tonight on AYM, sometime between 7pm and 2AM.
Elsewhere, Black Terry Jr. has photos of the Arena Neza show and also has a phantom cam video of Park smacking Wagner with a board.
Mistico returns to Arena Puebla for the first time in eight months tonight, teaming with new partners Volador & Valiente to take on Ephesto, Mephisto and Polvora. A singles match between Ultimo Guerrero and Sombra is the actual main event. No announcement of Rey Cometa’s replacement, but then CMLL’s hasn’t actually announced he’s out of action.
The current Comandante Pierroth says the previous Pierroth specifically picked him to get the gimmick. That’s a good story anyway. (And one they probably should’ve told a year ago if it was meant to be believed.) In that interview, Comandante Pierroth acknowledges the bad reaction to the character, saying the fans rejected him when he was originally put on top and now he’s got to earn his place. Comandante Pierroth noting how hard it is to follow Norberto Salgado makes one wonder why CMLL didn’t just give the new guy a different/new character, but the repeated mentions of how Salgado was just one of many people to use the name since the 60s is a clue. CMLL really likes it’s own IP.

I might have spent way too much time coming up with a 12 team tournament bracket for the wiki.

Magnifico replaced Maximo. Hard hitting match by the third fall. Trauma II vs UG were the focus, with UG submitted Trauma II in the third fall.

Zeuxis refused to help Estrellita and they stole each other’s pins, but they still won. They fought after the match.
6) Aeroboy & Flamita b Dragon Lee (CMLL) & The Panther (CMLL)
Very good match. Flamita beat Dragon Lee with a Flamita Fly.
Both the main and CMLL/Navarros match sounds like they were very good. It’s not really emphasized in the result and may have not meant to be a story, but it did end up with two CMLL wins and two indy wins. The audience for the indy guys and the CMLL guys are more separate than you’d think; this might be the first time indy fans have seen The Panther and it sounds like he did well. Everyone in that match did well, though.

Blue Panther replaced Angel de Oro on Monday. Rudos took 2/3, even though Terror Chino missed Olimpico submitting Blue Panther the first time.

Atlantis submitted UG.
Reads like just a show, with no feuds set up. Which makes sense if CMLL’s not running their own show next Sunday.
The show didn’t air on Terra. Terra definitely advertised the show as airing early in the weekend, then quietly unannounced it. Terra aired a CMLL show during the Super Bowl last year, so it was not unthinkable they’d do it again this year. It’s reasonable not to want to do it again – Terra was all in on the Super Bowl – but it’s one of those countless times where it would’ve taken five seconds for someone involved to let the fans know what was going on, and no one cared enough to bother. CMLL!
I still have absolutely no idea if next week’s All Elite show will air on Terra. CMLL did not announce a Coliseo show and the All Elite show is listed as if it’s a normal CMLL show (except no poster), which would suggest it would air like normal, but this one didn’t. It’s very unlikely I’ll be able to record that one either way.
There was no CMLL event on Saturday – that was preempted for a boxing event.
An out of breath Rey Bucanero challenged Maximo & Volador to a hair match after Friday night’s show. My idea was a straight double apuesta tag match, but people in the comments had much more creative ideas.
The UWE/Arena Lopez Mateos show Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero (and more queerly, Rey Bucanero) were pulled from went on with a Parkas (LA, Super) vs Wagners (Dr., Silver King) main events. Parkas won by DQ when Wagner Jr. & Silver Jr. ran in. Hijo de LA Park ran in for the save – as did Volador Jr.. The Parka’s posed together at the end. It’s so odd for a CMLL guy to show up after CMLL very publicly pulled their guys from the show, but I’d guess Volador just showed up without asking since he wasn’t actually to work.
This week’s AAA TV announced a 02/28 taping in Queretaro. That would be the last TV taping AAA needs for the cycle if every show from now on is a two show taping (which is what it looks like right now.) That also means that whatever was announced with Alberto coming to Naucalpan this month isn’t for AAA TV, but might be for IWRG or a sponsored show.
Eterno beat Chicano in their Arena Naucalpan hair match. It’s revenge for Eterno, who lost his hair to the then Bugambilia del Norte in December of 2011 and had never before beat Chicano in a singles match.
Star Fire became the first WWS champion in a tournament today. Vanely defeated Guerrera Cephei in a hair match between masked luchadoras.

Hijo del Fantasma attempted to beat Fenix with the Thrill of the Hunt, only Fenix escaped and beat him with a piledriver variation. Fenix accepted Fantasma’s open challenge for the cruisereweight belt, and they’ll meet at Rey de Reyes.

Cibernetico has the worst luck in this tournament – nothing but fouls and countouts. Of slightly more importance, La Sociedad and the Hell Brothers seem to be actively working together this time. Either they made some sort of alliance after all and we haven’t seen it yet or this is just kind of sloppy. Guess we find out when it airs.
Fantasma tried to steal his Evil Twin’s finisher and got beat, truly a lesson for us all. Fenix vs Fantasma means the Reyes del Aire Myzteziz/Fenix team is one and done on major shows, at least for now. It also means Myzteziz is free to be in whatever giant tag match is main eventing the show.
Not a lot of note on this card outside of that truly random opener. I think Super Nova might have been one of the people under the Hombre de Negro mask a couple a years ago, but that’s his first actual match in AAA. He’s seemed good enough to be in a major Mexican promotion for a while, but has found more work outside Mexico for the most part. Belial is the second Indy-strong-ible to show up on an AAA TV taping this year, only missing Impulso. I hope that doesn’t making programming tough for Chilangamask.
Next show is 02/08 in Ecatepec.

Mascara beat Casas with a casita to give the Ingbernables the win. Sombra & Mascara demanded a title match.

Seconds were Volador, Comandante and Bucanero. Bucanero used a ref distraction to slip in and foul Maximo, Volador knocked Bucanero out of the ring and dove on him, and Maximo revenge fouled Terrible to beat him and win the championship. This is Maximo’s first singles title and he becomes the first exotico to win a CMLL singles championship. Maximo and Brazo de Plata are the first father/son combination to win the same Mexican world heavyweight championship. Terrible falls in his 9th defense, his first in 13 months, after being champion for 1125 days.
6) Mistico, Valiente, Volador Jr. b Euforia, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero
Mistica on UG. Tecnicos appeared to challenge for the trios championship, but it’s not reported in the recap.
Maximo talked about his win after the match. Terrib;e’s title reign seemed destined to end with Rush beating him from the very day Terrible won the title (by beating Rush in a tournament final), so Maximo winning it instead is a genuine surprise and probably points this being part of a bigger picture. There was heavy tease of Volador/Bucanero and Maximo/Terrible hair matches, and perhaps Maximo needed to get the big win here to set up a tag match between the four for Dos Leyendas. CMLL could do that, one of these two title matches, and maybe Dragon Lee & Kamaitachi, and that’s the normal top half of a card for a CMLL major show.
Mistico had been asked on Informa about the future of the Estetas trios now that Mascara Dorada is gone for a year. He pushed for his brother Dragon Lee to be brought up to the trio, but also mentioned Volador had an idea for a trio with himself and Valiente. Well, here it is. Mistico winning a trios title to be champion while being protected from having to do long singles matches is the best option at this point, just as before.
The fourth match was described as “high powered in the style of the Battle of Stalingrad.” I can’t recall ever hearing a match described that way before. It does read like they hit each other very hard, though it does not appear it lasted for months. I’m less certain about what’ll happen in that title match. Dr. Lucha’s column in this week’s Figure Four Weekly mentioned rumors of Rush’s returning taking a while; CMLL moving on a bit without him in both the tag and heavyweight title pictures also hints they don’t expect Rush back rather soon.
(Not that we all haven’t decided the All Elite/CMLL is weird already, but CMLL’s biggest draw is out for months due to an injury on an All Elite show leading to All Elite getting an even better deal is very atypical. The injury appear to be All Elite’s fault, but the blame usually falls on the indy promotion anyway.)
Money was thrown in the ring after the tercera. That’s a match location which rarely gets aired.
Rey Cometa says he underwent knee surgery today, repairing a ligament and meniscus. Cometa missed shows on the FantasticaMania shows with knee issues and was struggling in his match last Sunday trying to work thru it, so it’s not a surprise he needed medical help. The Arena Queretaro Facebook page mentioned Cometa was hurt again on Monday in Puebla and the surgery decision was made then. Triton takes Cometa’s place tonight in Queretaro, no word on the other shows or when Cometa will be able to return.
Mistico says his foot inflamed badly after his first match on FantasticaMania. The doctors want him to be careful but he just wants to wrestle.
Eterno says Arena Naucalpan is not big enough for himself and Chicano so he’s going to have to end Chicano.
DTU’s Lanzeloth wants to win the Alto Impacto championship.
Canis Lupus kept the CROC Heavyweight Championship over Guerrero Mixtico.

Blue Demon Jr. was in Yucatan for a tasting of his sponsored mezcal drink. Demon explained he originally had 200 bottles of the drink made up in celebration of his 25th Wrestling Anniversary and sent it to friends, who all asked where they could get more. He realized two things: people really liked it and a lot of his friends are drunks. (That was a joke.)

Title match seems 50/50. Maybe the biggest arguement against is it would be odd for CMLL to have three title changes on three straight Fridays.
The Maximo/Bucanero lightning match would also feed into a tag team apuestas, to get the cross feuds going. A Volador/Terrible match would be fun, come to think of it.
Kamaitachi/Dragon Lee feud back in the tercera. This is a loaded card to have the other Panthers and Puma/Tiger in no change to air land, and a pretty good minis match for an opener.
