09/21 Arena Puebla results, next week’s lineup

CMLL (MON) 09/21/2015 Arena Puebla
1) Guerrero Espacial, Rey Apocalipsis, Toro Bill Jr. b Paris, Principe Diamante, Zaeta Roja
Rudos took 1/3
2) Akuma, Metálico, Policeman b Lestat, Molotov, Oro Jr.
Lestat accidentally dropkicked Molotov, which led to Molotov repeated harassing Lestat until Molotov finally turned on him. Straight falls for the rudos.
3) Boby Zavala, Disturbio, Kamaitachi b Delta, Fuego, Guerrero Maya Jr.
Rudos took 2/3. Triton was hurt during the match but completed it. Zavaa got the win but his finish looked off.
4) Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto b Dragon Lee, Valiente, Volador Jr.
Rudos took 2/3. Mephisto snuck in a foul on Volador.
5) Atlantis b Rey Escorpión
Escorpion tried rushing Atlantis, but still got beat in the second and third fall for the loss.

I wrote this post in the Mexico City airpot and couldn’t post it, so it’s going up now. We only got to see about half the card, but the matches were fine and the arena looked great. (Thanks to those who helped us get there and didn’t go insane dealing with the traffic.)

Lineup

CMLL (MON) 09/28/2015 Arena Puebla
1) Asturiano, Black Tiger, Rey Samuray vs Espíritu Maligno, Fuerza Chicana, King Jaguar
2) Lestat, Soberano Jr., Tigre Rojo Jr. vs Molotov, Nitro, Policeman
3) Blue Panther Jr., Stigma, The Panther vs Puma, Sangre Azteca, Tiger
4) Blue Panther, Dragon Lee, Máximo vs Cavernario, Kamaitachi, Negro Casas
5) Marco Corleone, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto

Seems like they’re building towards Volador/Mephisto in a couple weeks. Semimain could be fun.

new video releases for September 19th

  • CMLL Guerreros del Ring on 52MX did not air this weekend. It still should be Puebla, so it probably doesn’t matter. The usual reruns are listed as airing tomorrow, and I’ll post them like normal next week if they air.
  • The power went out at home four minutes into C3, leaving my computers off all weekend. Others are working on getting a copy of the show to me, but it may be a while before I have Cavernario/Triton.
  • the 09-14 IWRG matches are joined in progress due to feed issues
  • my rule against posting pay content applies to the CMLL Anniversary show, but it’s not terribly hard to find. (We saw it outside Arena Puebla and think it might have been 80 pesos.)

Lucha Underground to return for season 2 in 2016

The entire post is in the title line. That’s all we know. It’s a good thing to know! The expectation was we’d hear this at some random time, and this is as random as anything.

Things we still need to know:

  • When (as in when they start to taping and when they start to air?)
  • Where (as in where they’re taping – Erik says ‘the Temple’ but I’m not sure if that means LA)?
  • Where (as in networks/other Netflix-y outlets?)
  • How many episodes?
  • Are all the various things (merchandise, DVDs) they’ve been waiting for a renewal going to happen now?

All those will come in time. (Maybe even some of it in a formal press release at some point soon?) For right now, it’s great to know we’ve got more excitement with Dario Cueto to come.

Update: an article on Deadline answers some of those questions:

  • Still in LA
  • taping Q4 2015
  • airing early 2016

09/20 AAA TV Results (Monterrey)

AAA TV (SUN) 09/20/2015 Arena Jose Sulaiman, Monterrey, Nuevo Leon [AAA]
1) Dinastía, Goya Kong, Pimpinela Escarlata b Lady Shani, Mamba, Mini Charly Manson
The debuting Lady Shani was the mystery woman on the rudo side. She starts 0-1.
2) Aerostar, Argenis, Drago b Dark Cuervo, Dark Scoria, Machine Rocker
Drago pinned Machine. Brian Cage attacked the tecnicos post match, going after Drago to build towards their match at Heroes Inmortales
3) Daga & Steve Pain b Angélico & Jack Evans and Joe Lider & Pentagón Jr.
Prior to this match, Konnan appeared to make three announcements. La Sociedad were bringing in Johnny Mundo to win the Mega title back for the group from Alberto. They were going to help Taya keep the women’s title. And, third, Konnan was stepping down from leading the group and handing it over to Fantasma. This match saw Daga & Pain beat Lider & Pentagon as setup for a rematch at Heroes Inmortales
4) Cibernético, Hijo del Fantasma, Texano Jr. b Monsther Clown, Murder Clown, La Parka
La Parka switched with Psycho Clwon. Cibernetico top rope splashed Monsther. Texano attacked Monsther with the lasso after the match.
5) Psycho Clown & Rey Mysterio Jr. b Brian Cage & Myzteziz
Psycho Clown switched with La Parka. Drago blinded Cage with mist, setting up a Rey victory. Cage & Myzteziz beat up the tecnicos after the match, taking their masks.

Air Date: 10/03

It’s the return of the One Taping Where Everything Happens. AAA’s hand was forced by having by either choosing or being unable to do anything during the vacation taping, but pretty much all the matches for Heroes Inmortales are being strongly pushed for the first time on the show airing a day before the show. We still haven’t heard if the show is airing on iPPV, so that may be a moot point. Alberto appearing in his home town in a title match is what’s selling this show locally anyway.

AAA gave a reason for the Drago/Fenix versus Cage/Mesias match to happen after they announced it. It’s not the best order but it was better than the nothing they had before.

Daga & Steve Pain getting the pin here suggests they’re not getting it when they redo the match at Heroes Inmortales. That team, Pentagon & Lider and even Cuervo & Scoria have all gotten wins in these three way tag matches, but Jack and Angelico have not. (No wonder Jack hates them!)

Fantasma taking over La Sociedad is something to watch, if they go through with it. They’ve lacked an in-ring leader since Perro died, and Fantasma has lacked much to do since about the same time.

“Shani” is a Hindu god. Shani means ‘slow moving one’, which hopefully isn’t the case here. She’s probably one of the mystery women on the Heroes Inmortales card, though nothing was said. She could be someone new, she could be Sexy Lady or La Jarochita or someone else only working the spots shows being given a new character.

Next taping is Heroes Inmortales, on 10/04.

LLB (SAT) 09/19/2015 Deportivo Tlalli, Tlalnepantla, Estado De México [Estrellas del Ring, thecubsfan]
1) Dragon Fantasma, Hijo Del Fantasma De La Opera, Super Pagugo b Dragosth, Gio El Malcriado, Mini Fantasma De La Opera
2) Brandon XXX, Epitafio, Leviatham, Pierko b ?, Halcón 2000, Kid Jaguar, Shadow
names may be incorrect
3) Chico Che, Freelance, Pantera I, Suicida b Ancla, Belial, Impulso, Tornado
4) Carta Brava Jr. I & Cerebro Negro b Ángel o Demonio & Ovett and Aeroboy & Violento Jack and Loco Max & Ninja de Fuego
Cerebro beat Loco Max.
5) Trauma I & Trauma II b Metaleón & Pesadilla and Emperador Azteca & Golden Magic
6) Hijo de LA Park, LA Park, Nicho el Millionario b Dr. Wagner Jr., Pagano, Silver King Jr.
LA Park won by pulling Wagner’s mask (though it didn’t come off) and a small package.

An indy lucha show, not really on the level of the other shows we’ve seen.

Dr. Wagner told people he’s living in the present and doesn’t want to talk about the past. Wagner missed his calling as politician.

CHILANGA MASK (SUN) 09/20/2015 Coliseo Coacalco, Coacalco, Estado de México [Black Terry Jr. (Flickr), Estrellas del Ring, Mano a Mano, MedioTiempo, thecubsfan]
1) Aramis b Garrobo Punk
top rope Canadian Destroyer in a match with a ton of big moves
2) Dr. Cerebro b Sangre Azteca
Cerebro won in a mat battle
3) Último Guerrero b Caifan
Good match, took place early in the card so Ultimo Guerrero could get to Arena Mexico. Match included about a two minute hard chop fight on the outside. Ultimo won with Pulpo Guerrero (despite some unclear officiating.)
4) Hechicero (CMLL) b Ultimo Ninja
Hechicero won the battle of the Monterrey natives via Mad Scientist Bomb
5) Solar I b Fuego (CMLL)
Solar took most of the match and submitted Fuego
6) Rey Horus b Kamaitachi
superb match, big spots from both men in a competitive ~15 minute match.

Horus/Kamaitachi and Ultimo Guerrero/Caifan are worth going out of you way to see. Aramis & Garrobo Punk too, but it might not have been recorded. Garrobo looked a lot better here than the Nacualpan show.

IWRG (SUN) 09/20/2015 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (Flickr), The Gladiatores, thecubsfan]
1) Atomic Star & Ram El Carnero b Alfa & Muerte Infernal
Muerte Infernal & Alfa replaced Omega & Eternus and did not get along.
2) Leo, Mike, Rafy b Hip Hop Man, Imposible, Super Jack
Imposible was taken out before the match started by Leo and was never seen again. Straight falls for the Turtles.
3) Apolo Estrada Jr., El Golpeador, Rayan b Black Terry, Freelance, Suicida
Apolo and Terry feuded during the match, but it was Golpeador who defeated Terry clean with a powerbomb
4) Diva Salvaje, Golden Magic, Relámpago b Canis Lupus, Eterno, Shu el Guerrero
Golden Magic suffered a significant wound in the first fall and bled quite a lot. He rallied to get the win over Canis Lupus. They made mask match challenged after the match.
5) Danny Casas, Heddi Karaoui, Veneno b Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II
Heddi defeated Navarro by grabbing the corner ropes on a cradle in the third fall. Karaoui challenged Navarro and Casas & Veneno challenged the Traumas for the tag titles (? – they’re not tag champs here.)

A regular show. Should I get to record this, the fourth match is the only really noteworthy show, and it depends on how well the cameras catch the accidental drama.

CMLL (SAT) 09/19/2015 Arena Coliseo
1) Camorra b Bengala
2) Robin b Espanto Jr.
3) Metálico b Oro Jr.
4) Arkángel de la Muerte b Soberano Jr.
Same exact finish as previous match (Arkangel dropkicks Oro as he’s going for a flying move and adds a powerbomb for the win.)
5) Kamaitachi & Okumura b Blue Panther Jr. & The Panther
Kamaitachi defeated Panther with a German suplex
6) Ephesto, Felino, Mr. Niebla b Ángel de Oro, Blue Panther, Super Porky
Rudos took 2/3.
7) Dragón Rojo Jr. © b La Máscara [CMLL MIDDLE]
Dragon Rojo took falls 2/3 to retain. 12th defense. First title defense since February.

Improbably, Dragon Rojo is the current longest reigning champion champion and no one else is close. Satanico held this title for about four years and two months, and Dragon Rojo would reach that mark in January 2016. Satanico had 19 (known) defenses, so Rojo has a while to go to catch him there. Despite the impressive numbers, it’s a championship that hasn’t seemed to mean all that much (and the length may have been helped by Rojo missing large stretched of time due to injury without every giving up the title.)

CMLL (SUN) 09/20/2015 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Apocalipsis, Artillero, Súper Comando b Leono, Metatrón, Sensei
2) Puma, Tiger, Virus b Magnus, Star Jr., Stigma
Tiger beat Magnus with the Canadian Destroyer and was stretchered out after
3) Dragon Lee, Titán, Valiente b Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja, Vangellys
4) La Sombra, Marco Corleone, Rush DQ Mr. Niebla, Shocker, Último Guerrero
Niebla fouled Marco
5) Atlantis © b Mephisto [MEX LH]
first defense, rematch of title change. Prior to the match, many of the tecnicos (including the previously injured Magnus) came out to congratulate Atlantis on his mask win. Seconds were Valiente and Vangelis. Atlantis took 2/3 to keep the title.

Atlantis had a long tough singles match on Friday, and came back to have another singles match on Sunday.

Sombra and Rush says they’ll be a wild and crazy team going forward. They really ought to finally beat Casas & Shocker for the tag titles.
