Mistico II on Si Se Puede

IWRG (SUN) 10/11/2015 Arena Naucalpan [Esterllas del Ring, The Gladiatores]
Caravana de Campeones, 2015
1) Hip Hop Man © b Tortuga Leo [AIWA ARGENTINA CRUISER]
second defense. Hip Hop Man’s father was his second.
2) Imposible © b Hijo del Pantera [IWRG IC Light]
Imposible 10th defense. Imposible gave credit to Pantera for being a good opponent and said he’d be open to a rematch.
3) Apolo Estrada Jr. & El Hijo del Diablo © b Canis Lupus & Trauma I [IWRG IC TAG]
first defense. Diablo used a ref distraction to smack Trauma I with a weapon for the win. Lupus & Trauma were angry with the finish, so they took the belts and left. The commission brought the belts back a few minutes later.
4) Golden Magic © b Trauma II [IWRG JUNIORS]
first defense. Straight falls, a surprise to all. Trauma II was DQed in the first and surprised in the second. Very good match, money thrown in. Trauma II handled his loss better than his brother.
5) Máscara Año 2000 Jr. b Hijo De Dos Caras © [IWRG IC HEAVY]
Mascara jumped Dos during the title match photo. Dos still took the first, but Mascara took the second. Dos got a visual submission with the referee down in the third, Mascara dropped him with a martinete and got the pin off that. Dos falls on the sixth defense. Mascara dedicated the title win to the memory of Hijo de Cien Caras.

Magic/Trauma II is easily the most praised match. X-Fly totally could’ve beaten Hijo de Dos, and it’s a little weird Mascara 2000 Jr. is back here (though AAA people have been champions in IWRG in the past.)

CMLL has an unusually loaded up week, starting with a big show tonight in Puebla. The main event is Volador Jr. defending his NWA Welterweight championship against Mephisto. As we saw on Friday, Mephisto’s big match structure is basically “people kick out of the Devil’s Wings repeatedly and then do moves” and Volador has a lot of moves so it could work out well. Mephisto and Volador are tied 3-3 in singles matches all time, with Mephisto defeating Volador early and Volador winning late. He should win late tonight too.

The bigger match is the Molotov versus Lestat mask match. Molotov wasn’t much good as a tecnico, hasn’t been much better as a rudo, and fifty people should be getting mask wins before him but it’s CMLL so you can’t rule it out. Lestat was a Puebla prospect who appeared to get frustrated with his career going nowhere and basically retiring for two years. He’s gotten more focus since returning last December, but it’s at least possible it all might just be a set up for him losing to his mask and disappearing again. And maybe that’s even a reasonable thing to do, but not with Molotov.

Box Y Luchas has Demus vs Shockercito and Luchas 2000 has Hijo del Santo on the cover. I guess that says how much a secret Myzteziz’s jump was; no one knows more about Elite Lucha Libre than Luchas 2000 and they didn’t know to keep the cover open for Myzteziz showing up in Arena Mexico.

I’m not writing much about Mistico II on the Azteca/Telemundo Si Se Puede celebrity reality show because I can’t be bothered to care (and I’m not sure how much it means outside the context of the show.) He’s still alive on the show, and did a dance number as Gloria Trevi yesterday which tore down the house. There’s a 30-45 pre-roll add, but you ought to withstand it and watch the video.

The local newspaper in Reynosa still thinks Myzteziz is appearing on the AAA show Saturday.

Drastic Boy & Flamita will be on the 11/05 DTU show.

Alas de Angel lost his mask in San Luis Potosi.

Segunda Caida reviews Felino vs Blue Panther as part of a run of lightning matches.

Lucha Libre in Japan

10/10 Tokyo Gurentai: Douki beat Low Rider. That was both men’s debut in Japan – Douki on Twitter sounded happy about finally having a match where he was born.

Mascara Dorada actually won on the NJPW show! Post show interviews suggested Dorada’s teaming with Taguchi for the upcoming junior tag team tournament (and also there’s an upcoming juniors tag team tournament), but don’t trust me reading NJPW. None of the Ingobernables were Naito’s friend.

great match roundup for week of 2015-08-29

These are going to not work right, or at least not work how they have prior. I started posting the recaps right after the show for the live broadcasts. It doesn’t make sense to post them again, so that means the reviews for some of these were posted weeks/months ago. I definitely need a better way to look thru old recaps, but I can at least relink to them. This time, it’s only CMLL on ClaroSports 2015-08-31.

The trade off is I should be catching up quicker; a lot of weeks only have two TV recaps to post. The weeks where AAA (re)airs a PPV will only really have C3 recaps. I’d like to sprinkle in some of the indy catch up instead of leaving it all to the end (or just leaving it on my hard drive like last year), but we’ll see.

I’m trying to filter out the Azteca/52MX matches since they would’ve been listed before when they aired on other shows. I’m not sure if that’s the better way. I did update the best matches list.

CMLL (SAT) 10/10/2015 Arena Coliseo
1) Bengala b Camorra
2) Metálico b Star Jr.
3) Hombre Bala Jr. b Hijo del Signo
4) Sagrado b Tritón
Triton wants a shot at Sagrado and the Arena Coliseo tag team titles but can’t get a win over him.
5) Amapola & Dalys b Princesa Sugehit & Skadi
Skadi replaced Marcela. Rudas won in straight falls.
6) Blue Panther, La Máscara, Máximo b Felino, Rey Bucanero, Vangellys
7) Atlantis b Rey Escorpión
Atlantis won clean with an Atlantida.

The only person to beat Atlantis in a singles match in the last year is, of course, Ultimo Guerrero.

CMLL (SUN) 10/11/2015 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Flyer & Robin b Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
straight falls
2) Demus 3:16 & Mercurio b Eléctrico & Último Dragoncito
Scheduled to be a trios match with Pequeno Olimpico & Fantasy.
3) Delta, Fuego, Rey Cometa b Misterioso Jr., Pierroth, Sagrado
4) Negro Casas b Titán [lightning]
Negro snuck in a foul on Titan.
5) Ángel de Oro, Atlantis, La Máscara b Boby Zavala, Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora
6) Euforia, Terrible, Último Guerrero b Máximo, Rush, Valiente
Terrible beat Maximo to set up a title match next week. Atlantis was listed in Rush’s spot, but it’s Rush in the pictures.

The heavyweight championship doesn’t mean much, but Maximo seems like the most over tecnico. Crowd definitely cheered him over Volador on Friday night. There’s a bit of logic in using him as the main event on a Sunday after a WWE show, though it still doesn’t feel like a big thing.

Mesias replaced Myzteziz last night in Veracruz. They announced he wouldn’t be there at the beginning of the show. It’s unclear if AAA told him not to show up or if he decided not to on his own. AAA hasn’t commented on Myzteziz yet, but it was reasonable to expect they wouldn’t want to do any more business with him. Myzteziz is still be advertised for other shows by local promoters in the next three weeks, which probably means those local promoters also haven’t heard from AAA yet. The Arena Neza group, where Myzteziz is next listed as wrestling on Friday, still was pushing the poster with Myzteziz as the centerpiece on Facebook.

Karlo Colin, in his role as spokesperson for the Lucha Libre Elite shows, talked about Myzteziz’s appearance in Arena Mexico Friday night on Guadalajara’s Super Libre radio show. (Lucha Libre Elite has been promoting the no-promotion-listed Sunday big name indy shows at Arena Coliseo Guadalajara once every month.) Colin was likely part of the process which got Myzteziz into Arena Mexico on Friday and evasive answering questions about it. He only said more surprises are coming and the promotion would have another show in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara soon.

(There’s some irony in Colin being one of the people bringing back Myzteziz to Arena Mexico. Colin, in his other job as part of the Lucha 2000 magazine, made up interviews quoting Myzteziz’s father saying he was saying in CMLL and not going to WWE back when that all happened to try and protect CMLL. Myzteziz and his family were very displeased. Time changes alliances.)

No one’s saying how long this has been in the works, but friend of the site Daniel Gonzalez pointed out some dramatic Myzteziz Twitter messages from mid September which could be read as Myzteziz deciding to making this move.

In the post Arena Mexico interview, Myzteziz blew off his feud with Rey Misterio as one neither man won but he was happy to have done. He said he was looking for his old place in CMLL (again noting no one’s taken it), but did not want the Mistico name. He said he’d be ok facing Mistico II or teaming with him, whatever Mistico II wanted. He mentioned (a little unprompted) Ultimo Guerrero, Negro Casas, Volador Jr. and Atlantis as possible opponents. They’re not even giving away if he’ll be a tecnico or rudo. Slightly interesting the Ingobernables were not on that list.

Arturo Rivera said dumb stuff on Twitter and defended AAA, as he usually does. Boasting about AAA creating stars while others only steal them seems like poor timing when the promotion has been built around ex-US stars Alberto & Mysterio and ex-CMLL star Myzteziz. The thing is Arturo clearly needs to be right about AAA being built around homegrown stars rather soon.

AAA’s had a unfortunate year and that may not be over yet. WWE may be talking to Alberto el Patron about returning. Cageside Seats has all the bits of the story. The quick version is WWE wants to bring back one of it’s former Latino stars to help do better in that demographic, they’ve talked to Carlito but Carlito hasn’t liked the offer, and they’ve probably reached out to Alberto as well. On the face of it, if they’re not offering Carlito enough to return than that offer is probably not good enough to get Alberto either, and Alberto’s previous complaints about the WWE schedule would have to be addressed. Still, WWE is capable of making that kind of deal if they want him bad enough. Alberto himself has said he’s not locked in for season 2 of Lucha Underground. (The fact that no one’s come out and ‘corrected’ that says he was right and probably still hasn’t been locked in.) Myzteziz’s jump to CMLL suggests AAA contracts may not be all that binding either. There’s also been past reports in the WON about at least 1 of the 3 big AAA signings being unhappy with the payouts they’ve been getting. I don’t know which one it was, but the general sense is those deals have not worked out as expected so far. Alberto had much more positive things to say about WWE last time people asked. I’d still be surprised if Alberto left AAA, but it’s not out of the question.

5) Fuego vs Sangre Azteca
6) Super Porky & Titán vs Kráneo & Ripper
7) Ángel de Oro, Mistico, Valiente vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto

Titan teams with Super Porky a lot. Main event might be best match.

1) Leono & Metatrón vs Akuma & Camorra
2) Pegasso, Star Jr., Tritón vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Skándalo

6) Mistico, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Euforia, Mephisto, Último Guerrero

Sky Team in the main event to help out the title match.

There’s no bigger disparity than Pierroth and Hechicero on the same team. Skandalo’s had many injuries; the last one was a knee injury. He’s also had some false alarm returns from injury.

CMLL (SUN) 10/18/2015 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara

4) El Divino, Esfinge, Frezzer, Magnum, Neutrón vs Kempo Dragón, Mario Mora, Príncipe Kisho, Relampago (Sinaloa), Terremoto [cibernetico]
Jalisco versus Sinaloa

The Sinaloa guys have been showing up for a couple months, but this is the first sign it’s going anywhere.

return of Mistico I, Atlantis/Ultimo Guerrero and Demus/Shockercito next week

the return

CMLL (FRI) 10/09/2015 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Shockercito & Stukita b Demus 3:16 & Pequeño Nitro
Shockercito won with a La Mistica, which appears to have been intentional foreshadowing.
2) Okumura, Puma, Tiger b Fuego, The Panther, Tritón
good match
3) Guerrero Maya Jr., Heddi Karaoui, Stuka Jr. b Gran Guerrero, Hechicero, Luciferno
Karaoui was said to do well in his debut, got the win.
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush b Ángel de Oro, Super Parka, Super Porky
Ingobernables ended up destroying the tecnicos. Sombra took Angel de Oro’s mask after the match.
5) Atlantis & Negro Casas b Mephisto, Mistico, Volador Jr., Ephesto, Máximo, Valiente [CMLL Universal, seeding battle royal]
Prior to this match, the original Mistico came to the ring in a new mask (and with no name). He said Arena Mexico gave birth to him and he was coming back to return to the spot that no one had filled. The ring announcer promoted the 10/25 All Elite show, but Myzteziz never mentioned that date and implied he’d be coming back for a lot more than that. Strangely, Mistico II was the first person out for this match and most of the field attacked him. They tore up his mask repeatedly on this show.
6) Mephisto b Ephesto [CMLL Universal, 8F]
7) Mistico b Valiente [CMLL Universal, 8F]
8) Volador Jr. b Máximo [CMLL Universal, 8F]
9) Atlantis b Negro Casas [CMLL Universal, 8F]
10) Mephisto b Mistico [CMLL Universal, quarterfinal]
11) Atlantis b Volador Jr. [CMLL Universal, quarterfinal]
12) Atlantis b Mephisto [CMLL Universal, semifinal]
Atlantis faces Ultimo Guerrero on 10/16

The big news was the Myzteziz appearance and his press conference after the show. Myzteziz told the press that he plans on finishing up his AAA dates and then hopes to make his way back to CMLL. CMLL promoted Myzteziz’ appearance on Facebook and Twitter, which I don’t recall them doing with LA Park. Myzteziz isn’t officially part of CMLL at this moment, and things can still happen, but everyone expects him to join the promotion soon. This must’ve been in the works for a while, but it stayed quiet until yesterday afternoon. According to his own Twitter, Myzteziz was working AAA house show as recently as Thursday in Xalapa. He’s listed as working a spot show tonight in Veracruz. AAA seems like they were as caught off guard by this as most everyone. I’m sure they’re ticked and I’d guess he’s going to be asked to sit at home instead of working those shows, but this is a strange situation.

The Mistico II stuff was weird. It seemed like they were killing off the character for most of the tournament. The crowd would’ve been fine with that, he was getting booed badly just by appearing after the original had shown up. In the end, he just lost cleanly to a super Devil’s Wings.

Atlantis versus Ultimo Guerrero was the most predictable final but one I was kind of hoping they’d avoid. Ultimo Guerrero is almost definitely going to win. This final serves no purpose except to give Ultimo Guerrero a desperately unneeded victory.

Despite ClaroSports saying the show would only air in Mexico, it aired everywhere without a region block. No one knows anything and I expect it’ll stay a guessing game for a while. I only saw the Mistico return and the Universal tournament (which seemed better than last week, though the crowd was not at all into a long Mephisto/Ephesto match after Mistico I just showed up.) I haven’t even edited the rest, but I’m told the undercard was fun and worth watching. Karaoui did better than expected; hope he keeps it up.

In news that got swallowed up, Negro Casas & Blue Panther versus Solar & Negro Navarro was also announced for the 10/25 show. That All Elite has no TV (or internet) outlet, though fan recordings often show up on YouTube. It’s a Sunday show, so it would normally air on ClaroSports, but CMLL’s opted out of airing any matches which aren’t all CMLL luchadors. Maybe it’ll be different this time.

AAA has every right to be livid about Myzteziz’s move – he did this in a unprofessional way, and probably is still under contract to AAA. They also can’t afford to wallow in their anger too long right now, because they’ve got to figure out what to do with their TripleMania program, how to replace Myzteziz as a lead heel in general, and who else might be jumping. No one was naming names last night, but rumors were indicating Myzteziz wasn’t coming alone. (No opponent or match being named for him was interesting for that reason.) The spotlight is going to fall on Averno – who, unlike his rival, has been noted as being super professional everywhere – and if he’ll follow his friend back to CMLL.

My plans involve me not checking the internet for long stretches of time today. I’m throwing my laptop in the car, so maybe you’ll get an update from a rest stop near Peoria if more craziness happens, but more likely just keep an eye on Twitter.

AAA’s taking the blame for moving the Nuevo Laredo taping. As usual, they don’t give any particular reason.

Lineup

CMLL (FRI) 10/16/2015 Arena México
1) Hombre Bala Jr., Súper Halcón Jr., The Panther vs Artillero, Sangre Azteca, Súper Comando
2) Estrellita, La Vaquerita, Marcela vs Amapola, Dalys, Tiffany
3) Shockercito vs Demus 3:16 [hair]
4) Dragon Lee, Guerrero Maya Jr., Stuka Jr. vs Boby Zavala, Kamaitachi, Virus
5) Máximo, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs La Sombra, Marco Corleone, Rush
6) Atlantis vs Último Guerrero [CMLL Universal, final]
Ultimo Guerrero, already the only two time winner, would become the first three time winner if he wins.

WWE’s in town the next day. CMLL appears to know what the good matches are when they want to do good matches. The two singles matches should do well, and the fourth and first matches should be worth watching. (The women’s match isn’t as hot, but it’s tough for CMLL to put together promising women’s matches with the current roster.)

Shockercito defeated Demus when they last met for a hair match in 2009. He’s never lost his hair.

DTU JOSAGA (SAT) 10/31/2015 Auditorio de la Unidad Deportivo, Fortín, Veracruz
1) Blaster, Delirium, Guerrero Astral vs Angel Negro, Halcón Infenrla, Ultra Boy
2) Erwin, Galxy, Irving vs Masizito, Porrito, Samuary Jr.
3) Black Baby & Sepultura vs Destroyer & Hades

10/09 AAA TV Results (Tlahuelilpan)

AAA TV (FRI) 10/09/2015 Plaza de Toros, Tlahuelilpan, Hidalgo [AAA]
1) Maravilla, Niño Hamburguesa, Pimpinela Escarlata b Argos, Lady Shani, Mamba
Lady Maravilla again wrestled as only “Maravilla”, probably to avoid confusion with SHani.
2) Dark Cuervo, Dark Scoria, Súper Fly b Argenis, Australian Suicide, Bengala
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Joe Lider, Taurus b Angélico, Drago, Jack Evans
moved down a spot. Taurus was the mystery rudo and continued his winning ways, defeating Drago with a “Michinoku Driver con giro.” Pentagon Jr. appeared after the match to challenge Jack & Angelico to a tag title rematch.
4) Daga, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Steve Pain b Aerostar, La Parka, Súper Nova
Moved up a spot. Daga beat Nova. Australian Suicide attacked Daga after the match for unclear reasons.
5) El Mesías, Pentagón Jr., Texano Jr. b El Patrón Alberto, Fénix, Psycho Clown
Mesias defeated Fenix again, and took his mask again.

Air Date: 10/24, just one week of TV.

Tlahuelilpan is a blackhole for news coverage – this is a small town that has a big fair every year and brings in AAA as part of the entertainment – and apparently a blackhole for internet coverage too. No live results because they couldn’t get a signal. Last night was a tough night to lose internet access.

AAA appeared to know of Myzteziz’s plans when this taping took place and Argos & Argenis weren’t just immediately fired, so maybe they’ll be okay. Both of these brothers (and Mini Murder Clown) were added to AAA’s roster before Myzteziz started with them, but it was part of a long term recruitment plan to land Myzteziz when he would inevitably return to Mexico. Their positions would be iffy if Myzteziz left on good terms. Myzteziz is leaving on much worse than good terms. AAA can’t really do a lot to punish him unless they want to take this to court, but they can punish those related to him. Argenis has become actually fine enough for the position he’s in. Argos has not, and he’s got so little role as it that it would be tough to tell if he ever left AAA. (This is his first TV appearance in 16 months.) Argenis is also trios champion in Lucha Underground, but the role just calls for a generic skinny guy – if they had to, they could sneak someone else in the spot.

Thinking there’s something with Suicide & Daga in the segunda that wasn’t mentioned. That’ll be a fun feud. The recap didn’t mention if Pentagon still wanted Lider as his partner. As much as we might not want that, I’d assume that’s still the plan. Main event still points towards a Fenix/Mesias match to close out the year (and maybe a Fenix win since Mesias is winning all the build up.) They’re really going with Taurus, which is kind of amazing.

Next taping is a week from today in Reynosa. Myzteziz is scheduled in the main event. Averno’s on that card too.

the original Mistico returned to Arena Mexico tonight

The AAA luchador currently known as Myzteziz, but better known as CMLL’s first Mistico, appeared today in Arena Mexico. Myzteziz spoke to the crowd about midway thru the show, with his old music playing. He talked about being born in Arena Mexico and said he’d wanted to return to the level he once was at there. He kissed the mat before leaving. The CMLL ring announcer said “this luchador” would appear on the 10/25 All Elite show. They were careful not to use any name and he was wearing a new variation of his mask.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YajoYQAtTZQ&feature=youtu.be

The announcers made no reference to this appearance the rest of the night. It appeared this was only for the live crowd (and the press) and would not appear on TV. This followed the same script of LA Park’s first appearance in Arena Mexico before he worked an All Elite show there. Myzteziz was only announced as working that All Elite show and not part of CMLL. No opponents or teammates were announced.

LA Park’s All Elite appearance led the way for him to rejoin CMLL (for howerver short it lasted.) It appears the same thing is possible here. Myzteziz told the press he was planning to work his agreed upon dates with AAA and then leave the company. He said he would have a new name for his All Elite appearance. AAA owns the Myzteziz name and mask, but a new variation would probably be legally ok.

Myzteziz did appear to have the right to work his own indy schedule as part of his contract, but working in Arena Mexico and making an appearance on a CMLL show is something that would normally be at least told to AAA. Instead, it seems AAA found out the same way everyone else did: rumors of Myzteziz appearing on this show started this afternoon. All Elite said they’d have a big announcement after this show, and Myzteziz was spotted in Arena Mexico soon after.

Myzteziz says he’ll work his AAA dates, but it’s unclear if he’ll be wanted both. Myzteziz’s last appearance on AAA TV is being destroyed by the rudos and rejected by the tecnicos. That’d be a fine way to write someone out to the competition, only AAA had invested a lot in future Myzteziz matches. AAA seemed to be setting up a Rey Mysterio/Myzteziz rematch for next year’s TripleMania and had built their TV around that feud for the last couple of months. Myzteziz was slated to have a significant match at Guerra de Titanes, the last major show on AAA’s year. Myzteziz has essentially taken over the lead rudo position from the deceased Perro Aguayo Junior, and there’s no immediate replacement. AAA’s also already advertised Myzteziz as appearing on many shows in the next two months. AAA probably wants nothing to do with Myzteziz anymore, but may want to force him to live up to his word for economic reasons. It’s really hard to imagine that working at all.

Myzteziz and CMLL had a big falling out over the way he departed. Myzteziz never told CMLL he was leaving, just said he was taking a vacation in Los Angeles after the first FantasticaMania and instead signed with WWE. CMLL’s programming committee appeared not to like Myzteziz based on that exist and based on many critical comments about them before leaving, but sources say CMLL ownership got over it quicker and Myzteziz was back on good terms with the people at the very top by the time he left Mexico. It seemed doubtful like he’d come back directly to CMLL, but it did seem like he would be back in Arena Mexico someday.

Again, Myzteziz is only booked with All Elite. He’s said he’s not signed with CMLL. However, there’s not enough indy work to keep him busy alone – this is not rejoining CMLL, but the big step on that path. The similar LA Park & Dr. Wagner ended badly, but did boost interest and attendance in the promotion short term. Like those two, Myzteziz is a kind of a headcase who’s now left the last three promotions he’s worked for with bad feelings, but there’s no one in Mexico CMLL could add who would mean more at the gate short term. Long term, they need to fix other problems and Myzteziz will probably make it four straight bad exits, but this is a big boon for CMLL if they take advantage of it.

(Myzteziz name seems least blemished in Japan and I’d expect for him to booked for FantasticaMania if CMLL gives it’s OK.)

AAA’s not made an official statement. Myzteziz is scheduled to work a spot show Saturday in Veracruz, and many shows next weekend including the TV taping in Reynosa. (He was actually already booked in Durango on 10/25. I’m pretty sure that one isn’t happening.) AAA’s reaction is the next part of this story.
