EMLL
(Arena Coliseo) Mascara Ano 2000, Universo 2000, Cien Caras vs. Rayo de Jalisco Jr, Atlantis, Solar 1- The Dinimitia completely squash Rayito and Atlantis in the first fall with lots of slow power offense. They remain in control for much of the second until they try to do ‘la careta’ to Solar 1, which gives Atlantis a chance to enter the ring and atack them from behind. Atlantis gives Chucho a series of armdrags and then hits a quebradora on the floor. It looks like there is an edit from here. Atlantis does a tope to Cien Caras. Solar gets Mascara Ano in La Tapitia, while Rayo Jr. flips and hits a tope en reverse in one motion to pin Universo. Third fall, Rayo Jr continues to go after Universo, ripping into his mask and everything. However, he doesn’t hurt Universo enough outside the ring, so when he tries to dive, he hits nothing. Atlantis accidentally dropkicks Solar from the top rope and both of those guys get pinned. Then for good measure, Universo gives Rayo a nasty shoulderbreaker. This actually was kind of good, likely due to the editing and the tecnicos.
(Arena Coliseo) Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, Mascara Magica vs. Satanico, Averno, Fuerza Guerrera- Before the match in a skit from hell, Satanico named the former Rencor Latino El Averno(Hell). The reunited Guerrero/Bucanero tandem completely dominate the first fall, eventually pinning Satanico with their pile-on pinning move. In the second, Satanico’s Infernales fight back in much the same way, then pin Guerrero with the exact same pile-on posing pin(Alliteration!). Mascara Magica gets pinned in the first few seconds of this edited fall, by Rencor who rolls him up. Fuerza dives onto Bucanero with his sommersault off the apron. Satanico and Guerrero get left alone in the ring, so Guerrero tosses his mask off and the ref sees Satanico with it, and calls for the DQ.
Momentos Estelares
Ultimo Guerrero kicks Satanico in the head really hard
Silva fouls Apollo Dantes
Virus battering rams Ricky Marvin into the post extra hard
Ricky Marvin hits a huge super quebrada on Halcon Negro!
Rayo jr. does a moonsault plancha
We get treated to a party with the Boriquas who dance with some chicks, then Pierroth basically issues a warning to all the other groups in EMLL.
(Arena Mexico) Felino, Olimpico, Safari vs. Veneno, Zumbido, Gran Markus- The first fall is basically a highlight reel for the tecnicos, who get to hit all their spots and look good. Safari eliminates Veneno with a guillotine choke/DDT/Cristo combination(Starts like a tiger driver, then scissors their legs with his own and falls back) that looked pretty. Olimpico takes out Gran Hoggus with a tope. Zumbido tries a frankensteiner on Felino and… yep gets the holy hell powerbombed out of him(He almost got dropped on his head as Felino jumped too early but Zumbido pulled himself to get powerbombed normal in midair!). The rudos have much of the second fall to themselves, complete with lots of Zumbido mugging for the camera. Then they try a careta on Olimpico and it gets broken up… so out come the Boriquas to beat on them! And then an explosion goes off and out runs Vampiro! He fights off the crowd of rudos with his kicks, and the crowd goes absolutely nuts.
Now a skit. Shocker promised Bestia Salvaje and Scorpio Jr he’d have a surprise for them when he returned from Japan. He has two hair dyes he bought for them in Japan. He tells them that it will make their hair really nice or something. So they go to a Salon, and Shocker pays off the guy to put it in for them(and takes a hike). When Bestia and Scorpio Jr take off their caps, they realize that they have been tricked- their hair has been dyed pitch black!!! LMAO!!
(Arena Mexico) Shocker, Black Warrior, Apollo Dantes vs. Bestia Salvaje, Scorpio Jr, Emilio Charles Jr.- Shocker takes the mic and tells the crowd that he made the Ex-Guapos into Feos(uglies) and that he has a special treatment for Emilio Charles! This starts off real nice, with Warrior and Dantes doing a team spot with an assisted dropkick to get Scorpio and Bestia out of the ring, then they both do topes! Unfortunately for Shocker, he gets choked in the ropes by Charles and gives up. I don’t understand this, as far as I know you can’t submit while in the ropes or to a choke. But whatever. The second fall ends really quick, as the ex-Guapos get DQed for choking Shocker too much. Third fall heats up quick, with Shocker taking out Charles with his double jump plancha(and hurting his leg). Warrior pins Bestia with a splash and then Tigre Hispano has to do a flip over his head to count the fall. That got a nice pop. Dantes makes Scorpio submit to a double armbar.
AAA-
Mr Condor vs Marabunta (hair vs. hair)- See this is where AAA sucks, I had no idea these guys were having a hair match, and from the sounds of things neither does the crowd. Marabunta is able to take the first fall, when Condor misses a corner spear. He then uses a media cerrajera to end it. Second fall is terrible. Marabunta spills outside and Apache kicks him a few times then tosses him back in. Condor then hits a belly to belly and uses a Gory Special and the fall is over just like that! In the third, they brawl around a bit and both guys get bloody. Marabunta gets a few nearfalls off of stuff like roll-ups and huracanranas, but Condor keeps fighting back. The ref goes down, they trade low blows and Mr Condor gets the better of it and wins Marabunta’s hair. Yipee! This was one of the dumber ideas of AAA I have seen. First of all, no one cares for the Diabolicos individually because they all look the same and wrestle the same so it’s impossible to tell who is who. Secondly, you don’t do a hair match with one week of buildup! There was no crowd noise here at all. The action was slow and plodding and the low blow was seen a mile away. Peña is really slipping.
Kickboxers vs. Los Vipers- Oh boy. Kickboxing vs. Extreme Lucha Libre. It would be cool if I knew what the hell these guys were fighting over. Anyway, what we have here is a mix of three things- kicks, punches and weapon shots. The Vipers did do a few cool team moves. The refs get involved and the Vipers get their hands raised. Bleeeaaah.
The last match I didn’t tape much of but Tirantes got stretchered out.
EMLL and AAA have become complete opposites to me. EMLL is fun to watch, the wrestling is great and all the feuds are hot and make sense. AAA is just plain shit. I don’t know any of the feuds, if there are any. The crowd heat is absent except in a few places. The wrestling is generally awful. I blame most of this on two things- Sin Limite and Peña’s insanity. Sin Limite is another AAA show we don’t get on Galavision, that half of the matches per show are aired on. As a result, we often miss half of a feud and so it’s impossible to tell what’s going on. The other thing is the angles have gotten kooky. Everything is either rehash of something that was done a few years ago, or makes no sense at all. I am really considering not covering AAA in these reports anymore. I just can’t watch it. It’s like Russo and WCW, except in Spanish and with less boobs.
