Lucha TV Report for May 22nd, 2001

EMLL-

(Arena Coliseo) Villano III, Villano IV, Ringo Mendoza vs. Violencia, Rencor Latino, Hijo del Pierroth- Rencor and Villano IV work some a nice sprint from where the match starts. Then within seconds Hijo del Pierroth blows an armdrag(amazing, perhaps next he’ll screw up a headlock?) and Villano III drags him up and uses the cerrajera to take the fall. In the next fall Arturo and Ringo dominate for a bit, then Hijo del Pierroth tags in and the rudos are instantly in control. Rencor ends up making Villano IV submit to a cristo with abodminal stretch. Third fall tecnicos make a comeback. Crowd is comatose. Hijo del Pierroth actually hits something, doing a tope con giro onto Villano III. Unfortunately for his team, Ringo gets Latino in the ringuina and IV rolls up Violencia to end the match. [quarter point] This started ok with Rencor and VIV but never really went anywhere. Pierroth “Jr” actually did something impressive, but he is indeed a crowd killer, which is usually a sign the crowd thinks he is a fraud.

(Arena Coliseo) Dr Wagner Jr, Black Warrior, Apollo Dantes, Fuerza Guerrera vs. Gigante Silva, Super Porky, Hijo del Lizmark- Quite the rudo trio there, minus the lazy Dantes. It’s too bad they are about to be humiliated by the MIGHTY SILVA~! Warrior is wearing another set of new gear, and man does it look cool. Let’s fast forward past the Silva parts. He gets taken out when Brazo del Plata dives onto him by mistake. Then Dantes and Fuerza tie both of them up with camera cords(They tie up a ref too!). That leaves Warrior and Lizmark, and Warrior ends up getting caught in the ropes taking his usual segadora bump. Lizmark ends up pinning him with a tilt a whirl slam. However, Warrior wasn’t the captain, so Wagner takes his place, and low blows Lizmark. The refs catch him though. Damn, the good doctor just can’t catch a break with these refs. [zero]

Ras de lona… they profile Silver King and his travels to WCW, Japan and other places.

(Arena Mexico)Bestia Salvaje, Emilio Charles, Zumbido vs. Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, La Fiera- Shocker comes out before the match and basically says he is going to form a new elite group of Guapos, selected by him. He then says he wants Scorpio, and Zumbido in the group. Mr. Niebla is replacing Silver King, who “refused” to wrestle because he feels “undignified” wrestling on the third match from the top of the card. I think it’s an angle because if this was a shoot than this wouldn’t air and neither would the little spotlight above. First fall is a quick squash for the tecnicos. La Fiera uses lots of taekwando (sp?) kicks, most of which look good. Casas ends up using the casita on Zumbido and Niebla hits Bestia with tope en reverse. Second fall, the rudos continue to have their problems until they start triple-teaming. They end up pinning Niebla with an elevated springboard dropkick courtesy of Zumbido. Rudos control most of the third fall, then Fiera fights back for his team. He takes Zumbido to the floor with a superkick and then dives onto him with an awesome Psicosis-like tope. Niebla slams Charles in the ring and locks him in Neblina in one corner, while Casas hits a casita on Salvaje in the other, to end the match. [full point] This was pretty good. Not very much mat wrestling, but some decent back and forth stuff and a really hot crowd helped. La Fiera ruled for someone who should be old and stinky. Zumbido is so awesome.

Ultimo Guerrero vows to take vengance for the injured Rey Bucanero(arm) and Tarzan Boy(neck).

(Arena Mexico)Ultimo Guerrero vs. Satanico (mano a mano)- Ultimo won’t even let Satanico get off his jacket, as he goes straight into kicking the crap out of the old man, pissing off the crowd quite a bit. For some reason he needs to use the ropes to get the pinfall to end the first fall. Satanico is angered at this, and starts asking for the ref, Tigre Hispano, to be removed. Crowd chants for a Satanico comeback. They get their wish, as Satanico grabs him by the neck and throws him to the floor as Ultimo is taunting him from the apron. Now Satanico has some fun, tossing the rudo around the ring and pushing around the ref. He blocks a corner charge with his feet, and then amazingly hits a huracanrana to pin Guerrero! Third fall starts with an exchange of nearfalls by both guys. Guerrero misses a moonsault, but has enough strength to get back up and look for the Reverse Superplex. Satanico is able to elbow out of that, and hit a flying senton for two as Guerrero falls off. Satanico tries another rana, and hits it, but Guerrero rolls through for a quick two. Guerrero sends him back into the corner, but misses a corner charge and crashes to the floor. Satanico starts running… no he’s not gonna… he is… TOPE SUICIDA FROM SATANICO!!!! Amazing. Who says old dogs can’t try new tricks. They end up brawling on the floor and get counted out. Some mask ripping, ref beating and run ins ensue. [full point] A really good match up until the end. They worked a nice pace and put over the hate these two guys have for each other real well… plus it had some nice spots like Guerrero teasing the Guerreroplex and Satanico’s jurrasic tope. I didn’t like the finish but I guess it makes sense as these guys are eventually going to have a mask vs. hair match, and yet no one has an edge in the feud.

AAA(From Torreon)

Los Barrios Boys vs. Los Diabolicos- Angel Mortal has his head shaved bald since he lost it to Billy Boy off TV. First fall is a revenge squash for the rudos. Angel pins Billy Boy with a powerbomb. Second fall Dennis fights back for his team, then Alan Boy pins Angel Mortal with an abdominal stretch cradle. Third fall is all Barrios until Marabunta fouls Alan in the corner. The Barrios’ momentum is disrupted enough that the rudos are able to score two quick pinfalls on Dennis and Billy Boy.

This was decent. I guess the Barrios are improving since I didn’t really see any blown spots here. We can add up another successful carrying job to the rank of Los Diabolicos. I don’t think there was one highspot in this match, which is quite amazing considering who was in it.

In Noti AAA they showed how Abismo Negro gave Perro Jr. a piledriver on a steel chair. This kind of pissed me off because it took Perro all of a month to “recover” from a move that should have taken him out for much much longer.

Los Vipers Atomicos vs. Mascara Segrada, Sangre Chicana, La Parka Jr., Zorro- First fall is easily won by the Vipers. The Vipers then bring in weapons to use in the second, but the tecnicos are able to come back after a goofy looking spot by Zorro. They work some rope running stuff, then Segrada makes Psicosis take a wicked looking post bump, and follows with a over the post tope con giro! He even hits his knee on the announce table(Guess he should have dove on the other side.) Parka pins Histera with a guillotine from the top while Zorro rolls up Mosco to end the fall. In the third, each of the tecnicos gets a chance to show off. Zorro works a chain wrestling sequence with Psicosis, leading to a drop toe hold on a chair, which was kind of cool. One of the announcers says that AAA has the only Parka and any other Parkas are called “Puerca” (pig). Sangre Chicana does a tope, I guess because he hasn’t done anything else of note this match. Pirata Morgan runs in, distracting the three tecnicos in the ring long enough to be rolled up for the pin.

This was your basic AAA atomicos match, nothing to write home about.

Overall: EMLL had two good matches and a bunch of crap. I guess since Satanico vs Guerrero is doing so well they will have to be depushed for now, so that Rayo can get his heat back… speaking of Rayo, his son’s debut match didn’t air, which is really amazing considering it was so heavily hyped.
