CMLL CAN52 GdR - 10/06/07 (#98)
Recapped: 10/06/07

Intro: joining the announcers is a random valet, which the guys find very distracting.

Outside the Ring: Hijo de Lizmark. Timely! He's got a son named Juan Carlos, what a coincidence.  Hijo de Lizmark has his extra masks hanging up on a coat hanger, which is an outstanding idea. We also see Lizmark Jr.'s closet shelf full of comic book action figures. (His favorite is Batman.) Lizmark appears in the later segments.

Match 0: Texano Jr. vs Olimpico vs Villano V vs Rey Bucanero in a seeding battle royal
Arena Coliseo, 09/09/07

Joined in progress, without much of an explanation of what's going on here. It'll be over quick. Oh, wait, there's a nice graphic to explain it and the announcers do as well. Still not going to last too long. Normal battle royal stuff. I wonder how they're going to work the breaks with no three falls matches. I guess, with four matches and a break before this one, they just need one extra one after the last match. I've steadfastly ignored the big advertising on the ring apron and may continue too. Everyone pretty much for themselves - Texano tries to work with Villano V and superkicks him. What's with Rey's huge belt buckle? Olimpico tricks Rey into taking a big double monkey flip to the floor, so that's the end of him. (1:09) Now we're more into two guys working, one guy taking a break stage. Texano takes a backdrop to the floor, and that's it. (1:36) Villano V and Olimpico tease fighting because the gimmick is no one understands the rules of this match. What a fantastic idea.

El Arte De Catch: Toca de Espaldes - they don't do the best job of showing this hold, maybe a side reverse rolling cradle.

Match 1: Perro Aguayo Jr. (c), Terrible, Texano vs Blue Panther, Dr. Wagner Jr. (c), Rey Bucanero in a semifinal match
Arena Coliseo, 09/09/07

Winner: Tecnicos
Match Time: 6:12
Other Match Notes: Entrances. Panther does the promo - he took out Lizmark Jr., so don't get on his bad side. Texano comes out to the Perro's music, but it's dubbed so who knows if that's the idea. He's not wearing a Perros shirt - only Aguayo is, actually. Perro Jr. talks about Wagner. The best part of the updated graphics is Rey Bucanero finally has a picture that's not from 1998.

1: Perro Jr. hitting the run starts an all out brawl, with the rudos getting control. Texano works over Panther with the rope before it's taken away. Perro works over Rey in the aisle, gets warned by the officials, and plays innocent. Texano batters Panther around ringside. POST. Aguayo takes over from Terrible on Wagner, and goes after his mask. Rey tries to help out, and Terrible grabs him. Perro unties Wagner's mask and it flies off for a second, which thrills Perro. Terrible chokes out Panther with a cable. Lady Apache has joined the announcers - they put a graphic to explain who was talking, which is nice. Wagner gets set up for the double stomp in the ring and takes it, but no pin. They're losing for sure. Aguayo fools around on the apron and gets into an argument with a women in the second row, which cause shim to get jumped form behind by Rey. This works for a good five seconds before Perro takes back control because it's the rudos turn. Texano holds Panther in a headscissors on the mat for a bit, then an armbar. Just lots of brawling. Aguayo works over Panther with lots of quick headbutts and is very dizzy. Panther's worked over, and then Perro gets to posing. They seem to be just stalling here, though the crowd is into reacting to Perro. Panther sidesteps a Aguayo charge and grabs him by the tights, but the other two get him. Aguayo holds Panther for a double boot, but Panther moves out of the way. Panther ducks a double clothesline and topes Perro (barely.) Rudos are set up on the ropes for Rey to hit the big sit. Rey gets Texano in a legbar (I guess), and Wagner pins Terrible after a dragon leg screw. Odd finishes. They show the 1 of 3 fall graphic, but it's only 1 fall.

El Diseno: Arkangel

Match 2: Black Warrior (c), Villano III, Villano V vs Atlantis (c), Olimpico, Ultimo Guerrero in a semifinal match
Arena Coliseo, 09/09/07

Winner: Guerreros
Match Time: 4:21
Other Match Notes: Black Warrior is going to go to a level about the level the Guerreros go to. That's crazy talk. Ultimo rushed Villano V as he comes in, so it's on. Atlantis says the Guerreros, not the Villanos, are the best tercera in Mexico

1: Guerreros take control. Villanos and Atlantis and Ultimo are brawling, while Olimpico has Warrior in a figure four. Ultimo sneaks in a questionably low knee. V3 is isolated and takes the big sit. V5 gets crotched on the way in, and takes corner charges. Warrior in and tries to battle, but gets overwhelmed. Crowd is behind him, not that it's helping at the moment. Warrior side steps a corner charge, clothesline Atlantis and Ultimo, and starts the comeback. Villanos brawl with their rivals on the outside, V5 posting Ultimo and then throwing him into the seats. V3 goes after Atlantis' masks. Villanos use Ultimo as a battering ram on the ring post, and Ultimo loses that. Olimpico manages to turn it around on Black Warrior, in the ring, clotheslining him, but he runs right into an elbow drop. Elbow drop, thrusts. Warrior spin kicks Olimpico out, Guerreros boot Warrior out and evade the Villanos. Clothesline misses, and Villanos dropkick the Guerreros out. They set up for dives, but Olimpico cuts them off with a dropkick. Warrior in and booting Olimpico into the corner. Charge, no one home. Olimpico off the ropes, but backdropped to the apron and spin kicked to the floor. Warrior to the apron - tope con giro from there. No tope. Back in the ring, Guerreros powerbomb the Villano and get their feet on the ropes - one two three. Referee missed it, oh well. Replays.

Q: [Black Warrior] De que tercia era pare en los 90s?
A: Los Metalicos (Oro, Plata, Bronce)

Match 3: Atlantis (c), Olimpico, Ultimo Guerrero vs Blue Panther, Dr. Wagner Jr. (c), Rey Bucanero in the tournament final
Arena Coliseo, 09/09/07

Winner: Guerreros
Match Time: 7:03
Other Match Notes: Ultimo wants a mask match with Wagner. This is Wagner's house.

Fight is already in progress as we pick it up. Guerreros dominating. I wonder if the tecnicos ran out and got stomped, or if everyone went to the back and came back. Wagner quickly turns the table on a Guerrero sit to start the comeback. Ultimo Guerrero takes a big bump off a turnbuckle smash. Wagner backbreakers Atlantis, who begs off from more . Wagner sets him up on the tope rope and goes for his mask instead. Looks like Rey is untying Olimpico's mask too, but he's warned off. Panther posts UG on the outside, and gives him a backbreaker too. Camel clutch/eye poke combo on Atlantis. That Wagner sure is mean. Tecnicos settle down to do one on ones, which is good because we've got ten minutes (and a break) left in this show.

Rey and Olimpico start off, Rey being Rey. Lots of avoidance spots, Rey missing on an enziguri but hitting on a back kick. Atlantis comes in and runs into armdrags. Tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for good measure. Rey takes off his right wrist guard and fires it to the mat, guess he's angry. UG in to face him now, and stopping to yell at the tecnico fans. He tries to surprise Rey with a clothesline, Rey avoids him, they count until Rey monkey flips him out of the ring. Dive tease, and tag out to Panther. AH, this is where they're sticking that last break.

El Arte del Catch: Tony Rivera says the move's name so fast, I have no idea. And then I look at it and I have no idea. This is a helpful segment.

Crowd loud for Panther. Olimpico into face him and take armdrags. Panther gets on a inverted cross armbreaker, and the Guerreros rush to the rescue. You don't want to leave a man in a Panther arm submission. Panther ducks a double clothesline, gives Atlantis a spinning armdrags, and UG a headscissors. Olimpico comes back inn, takes down Panther, gives him a senton, covers and - probably is very confused about why there's no count. Wagner's told the referee to stop counting, and danced his way into giving Olimpico an eye poke. I guess that's his thing today. Olimpico works over Wagner in the corner, with Wagner overselling every punch, then turning it around to get in his own chops. Wagner feels up Olimpico while he's at it, and they bump into the referee for good measure. Whip, reversed, Wagner tosses Olimpico up and Olimpico takes the weakest flapjack bump ever. I have no idea, Olimpico must've thought something else was happening. Wagner gets in one more eye poke. Has he been watching Piper tapes all week or something? Atlantis in and working Wagner over, Wagner reverses a corner whip but rushes into a big boot. Atlantis rushes out, and takes a backdrop. Wagner snap mares him over, off the ropes, and dancing his way to another eye poke. Wagner backbreaker sends Atlantis out. UG in. Try to eye poke him! No, Wagner's going to screw around a little more first. This is how we stretch this out to get one tournament to last an hour. Posing contest. Wagner's just stalling because he know she can't eye poke UG thru the mesh. Wagner jumps UG while he's booing the tecnico fans. Whip, Wagner charges in, no one home, UG charges in, no one home. Wagner kick tornado DDT, and out goes UG. Wagner out to the apron, and he gets his tope con giro in. Panther in, side steps an Olimpico dropkick, Rey and Atlantis in, Panther shoulderblocks Olimpico and ducks an Atlantis clothesline. Panther grabs Atlantis' left arm, Atlantis yanks Panther's mask with his right arm and cradles him for the pin. Meanwhile, Olimpico grabs Rey into an upside down nudo, and that's that.

Wagner seems mostly undisturbed as he exchanges hand signals with fans. Atlantis celebrates with Panther's mask, saying he took revenge for Hijo de Lizmark. Panther, with a towel covering his face, challenges for a mask/mask match. Wagner makes challenges while Rey makes funny faces. As we watch replays, you can hear the ring announce Mistico's going to be on next week's show. If Atlantis accepted Panther's challenge, we sure don't see it here.
