CMLL CAN52 GdR - 09/15/07 (#95)
Recapped: 09/16/07

Intro: Rey Bucanero joins the announcers. He's still on the TITLE versus TITLE kick, which requires Atlantis to remember he has a title. Iffy. Guerreros do a group promo with a lot of pointing towards the camera. Atlantis gives up a thumbs up. How nice of him. Back in the ring, Rey has a Rey Bucanero flag - I hope he tries to bury them under near them.

Reoccurring feature: Lizmark and Solar talk about Dr. Wagner.

Match 1: Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus (c) vs Mictlan, Super Nova, Valiente (c)
Arena Mexico, 09/07/07

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:57
Approx Rating: Fun Infernales squash
Other Match Notes: No entrances. I think you could make an argument CMLL is doing a slow build to a Mictlan vs Nuevo Infernales stakes match, but then again, it's Mictlan.

1: Mictlan and Nosferatu have a standard opening, expect it somehow ends with a Mictlan superkick. Super Nova and Euforia in. Once again, Euforia looks nine feet fall. I don't think he actually is. Euforia has a good knife edge chop. Super Nova comes back form a corner charge with a corner the headstand headscissors. They're going fine till they get paused on a flip spot with where it takes a moment to get the timing. Nova springboards to a satellite headscissors sending Euforia out. Euforia thinks that's it, but Super Nova claps his hands and waits for him to come back in. Euforia does come back in, and after one pointless Super Nova flip, shoulderblocks him the heck out of the ring. Euforia looks out of the ring at Super Nova, and misses the tecnicos coming in and double dropkicking him out. Dive time? Well, yea, but apparently with Super Nova - nice Asai Monaural. Other four all in. Rudos hit corner clotheslines, but it backfires when they switch partners. At least I assume it does - we stick on Valiente backdropping Nosferatu out and don't see what's up with Mictlan and Virus. Mictlan ends up whipped towards Valiente, who sidesteps it so Mictlan can do a corner tope on Nosferatu, but Mictlan's legs hit the ropes on the way thru. Mictlan landed just short of Nosferatu, but the rudo falls just short of his target. Valiente gets Virus with a moonsault armdrag and wins the fall with his seated armbar.

Mictlan makes it back in the ring, so I guess he's alive. He landed flat, so that probably helped.

2: Valiente shoulderblocks Euforia down to start the second fall. Off the rope avoidance spots, and then Valiente sends Euforia flying with a monkey flip. Valiente gets thrown to the ropes, backflips off them, and armdrags Euforia out. Valiente flips to the apron and flies off with a headscissors to Euforia. Tag to Mictlan, Virus in for his team, but we look at a replay. When we're back, Mictlan catches Virus with a niece swinging headscissors. Mictlan seems like he's dropped some weight. Powerslam for Nosferatu as he comes in. They take turns missing clotheslines, and Mictlan ends hitting a rolling dropkick. Spinning backbreaker on Euforia is a little bit off angle - luckily, Euforia charges again, and Mictlan does it fine this time. Super Nova and Virus in, Virus trips up Nova, off the ropes, Nova drops down, and Virus drops the elbow. Whip, drop toe hold by Virus, off the ropes, dropkick to Super Nova's head. Nova gets in nothing before rolling out. Virus taunts Valiente into coming in - and he gets jumped by the other rudos. Mictlan is knocked off and the beatdown is on. Corner whip for Valiente, corner knee, corner back elbow, and whatever Virus did must've gone horribly because we got a random crowd shot. Mictlan in, double flapjack for him, and triple pose/submission. Super Nova back in - Virus rams him into the ropes, Nova trips back and the Infernales trip him up. Rudos screw around with Nova a bit, and Virus stops Valiente from getting in. There's the full nelson stretch, that's it. Virus works over the twisted midsection with punches, which is smart.

El Arte de Catch: La Tapatia Doble - exactly what you think it'd be.

3: We are led to believe that this fall starts with a Mictlan tope con giro onto Virus. Riiiiiiiight. Beatdown is over, though Euforia is lighting up Valiente with armdrags and dropkicks in the ring. Yea, the nine foot tall guy is dropkicking Valiente, that's right. They're high, that's for sure. Valiente gets saved with Mictlan yanks out Euforia, and Virus follow - double jump moonsault! Crowd approves. Nosferatu in, and under the impression he's going to dive. Super Nova cuts him off with a rope rope headscissors. Nova should look at his opponent and not the crowd here, but stilling gets him backdropped to the apron. Nova fights back with a shoulderblock tot he midsection, springboard 'rana is blocked into a powerbomb! Nosferatu picks him up - and powerbombs him again! One two and Valiente breaks it up with a sunset flip, one two no. Super Nova rolled out and may now be dead, he was looking in pain after that spot. Valiente sends Nosferatu to follow him with a dropkick. Virus in and ducking a clothesline, powerslam for Valiente, off the ropes, elbow drop, no one home. Valiente charges, hops to Virus' shoulders - but gests hung on the top rope. Valiente hanging upside down, so Virus gives him a running dropkick in the head to knock him into the ring. One two Mictlan break that pin up. And Mictlan's big move is - a small package! One two no. Mictlan misses a punch, but lands a kick. He lifts Virus up in a Gory Stretch, but both Nuevo Infernales are in and kicking Mictlan to break it up. Mictlan's whipped off the ropes, double spinebuster, triple submission, that's it. Wait, no, that's not it, Valiente is the captain and he's chopping all the rudos, who realize this means the match is still going. Valiente is whipped in the corner and hammered with clotheslines by the Infernales. Spinebuster by Virus, and Euforia goes up - giant splash. Nosferatu goes up - giant clumsy looking splash! One two three. I can't explain why, but that was a great finish. They decimated the tecnicos here.

El Diseno de Astro Rey.

Match 2: Atlantis (c), Olimpico, Ultimo Guerrero vs Blue Panther, Dr. Wagner Jr. (c), Rey Bucanero
Arena Coliseo, 09/09/07

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:18
Approx Rating: Eh.
Other Match Notes: Dubbed entrances. Wagner is wearing what looks like a black weight belt that doesn't match his outfit at all. He's not wearing it in the pretaped interview. It's gotta be something for his back. Wagner abducts small children while waiting for the Guerreros to enter. The Evil Monkey is with them. He's looking very Fuerza with his blue/red mask. Ultimo and Panther start fighting right away, even though we've still got an ultimo pre-taped interview to do. They're using generic CMLL microphones here, so they're probably not planning this out in advance.

1: or changing microphone stands is too much work. Rudos beatdown, with Atlantis ripping at Wagner's mask. Evil Monkey gets an apron dive headscissors on Rey, then Wagner attempts to beat him with a women's high heel shoe. Thankfully, Olimpico makes the save and the footwear is returned unharmed. Headstand sit on Rey. Panther's brought in, put in the Atlántida, and he's done. Well, not done, because they go after his mask. Wagner brought in, and Olimpico puts him in a reverse standing figure four. Wagner gives up, and when that doesn't get Olimpico to stop, he pulls Olimpico's trunks. That's work. Panther's mask comes 90% off. They're going after Wagner's as we go to break.

The trivia question (never show on screen) is something like "what's the biggest hair/mask win each guy has had", and the answers they give are

Dr. Wagner Jr.: Drago
Blue Panther: Love Machine
Rey Bucanero: Mascara Ano 2000 (hair)
Olimpico: Brazo de Platino
Ultimo Guerrero: Mr. Aguila
Atlantis: Villano III

I never realized how weak Dr. Wagner's big match wins were till then. Wow, you beat Mr. Mexico in one of his million pre-Mr. Mexico gimmicks, I'm supposed to be impressed? This explains why he wears that UWA title everywhere (though not this week.)

2: Bell actually blew while were looking at the graphic, but it seems to be mostly legit, since the ring girl is till at ringside when we pick up the match. Still a rudo beatdown, and it does look like Wagner's mask has been completely untied. He's worked over in the ring in the usual way, culminating in an Olimpico springboard splash (where he really choose the wrong side of the ring to try it, but oh well.) Panther comes in to cover up Wagner, so the rudos go after his mask. Rey's bought in too, and this messes up whatever corner charges the Guerreros had in mind, though it's a bit of a stilted comeback. Whatever the case, the rudos all end up on the middle rope, and Panther boots Rey into a big sit on all of them. Ultimo and Wagner make a little comeback of their own while we watch replays, but Wagner ducks a double clothesline and turns a toss into a dropkick. Panther sends UG out and follows him with a tope. Wagner waits for Atlantis to turn around and bowls him over from the apron. Rey gets Olimpico with the Buca storm, though we mostly miss it.  Olimpico isn't the captain, but we do actually see the refs count people out, sot hat's nice. They count at lightning speed, but whatever. Meanwhile, Panther is choking Atlantis to death with a camera cord, and no one much cares to stop it. Elsewhere, Wagner gets the monkey back AND gets the high heel shoe back. Thankfully, Evil Monkey is pulled to safety before foot wear violence can commence. (Gotta save stuff for the third fall.) Tecnicos are going after Ultimo and Atlantis' mask and Rey's brawling with Olimpico as we go to

El Arte de Catch: Pescado - thankfully, they do not show a dropkick or a clothesline here to confuse me.

Random promo of Atlantis hyping the cage match and taking Villano V's mask.

Random promo of Wagner hyping the cage match and the possibility of taking UG, Atlantis or Mistico's mask.

3: Tecnicos still going after the rudos masks as the fall starts, but the camera chooses to check out the ring card girl instead. Can't say that's a bad move. Tecnicos beat up on Evil Monkey till he's pulled to safety. Tecnicos do a triple pose, where Wagner and Rey have one and Panther just shows off a bicep or something. Hey, look, announcers. Wagner to start with Atlantis, which means Atlantis to prance around a bit and pose. Wagner poses on his knees and gets kicked, as usual. Elbow drop, whip, clothesline misses, Wagner back with a jumping plancha one two no. Wagner armdrags, pose, charge, Atlantis puts him on the top rope and punches him. Atlantis back up to pose, Wagner drops down to pose. Lots of posing. Atlantis charge Wagner, Wagner puts Atlantis on the top rope this time, Wagner's head meets Atlantis' groin - that's not good. Atlantis goes for Wagner's mask instead. Looks like Wagner's dyed his hair totally blond. Wagner fights back, and pulls Atlantis off the top rope with a Diamond Cutter - pose, no, Olimpico kicks him. Olimpico pulls down the straps and works over Wagner with forearms, but Wagner stops him and feels Olimpico up. When did Dr. Wagner transition into being an exotico? Chops, eight of 'em. Posing/dancing. Olimpico, still existing fights back with chops, but gets whipped, flapjacked, and kicked. Wagner watches Olimpico roll out and gets ambushed by UG. Corner whip, Wagner moves out of the ay in time, kick wham running tornado DDT, and now Wagner can pose in peace. Rudos regroup. Panther in next and getting the crowd to chant for him before he'll wrestle. We miss him and Ultimo while looking at the crowd, but do see Atlantis stomping Panther down. Atlantis poses, and gets made at the crowd when they don't appreciate it. Monkey flip, but Panther lands on his feet! Backbreaker for Atlantis, and Panther goes for his mask. Atlantis fights it, and Olimpico makes the save. Panther whips him, sunset flip, one two Rey breaks it up with a dropkick. Rey stops to get the crowd to chant for HIM, and he gets back elbow down by Olimpico. Stomps. Rey is so angry, he actually takes off his vest and throws it down. Armdrag, armdrag, backbreaker, dropkick, and Olimpico goes out. UG in and missing a senton, Rey off the ropes, and right into a UG monkey flip, which turns into a tope con giro on Olimpico. Panther in for his side, to face UG. Charge, and - well, we see a replay, but it didn't seem good for Panther. We return in time to see Wagner give UG a dragon leg screw whip, and Panther take down Atlantis. Tecnicos set up for the double tapatia we just saw - and UG yanks both of their masks. Nice long obstructed shot of Wagner's face there - he's shaved the facial hair, I see. He's looking like Scorpion Jr. Refs declare tecnicos winner, Atlantis declares UG the winner.

Rudos pose with the masks and Wagner walks up the aisle with his hands covering his face. That's a good trick. We watch people wander off, including the evil monkey. Rey eventually comes back to help Panther. Julio talks to UG, who promises more of this at the anniversary show. Looks like Panther got his mask back - and he tries to jump the rudos! Thankfully Rey is there to save him, because 1 on 2 doesn't work well. Neither does 2 on 2, and the rudos celebrate to end the show.

That's it.
